Reviews for Best Western Hôtel Hermitage
Review 1:It was easy to walk from th central location to anywhere in Montreuil. The hotel was clean and comfortable, staff friendly and efficient and the decor tidy and modern. Everything worked well and our room was reasonably spacious.
Review 2:The fruit salad at breakfast! Tinned or frozen kiwi is not good!
Review 3:Spacious room and bathroom. Hotel has a nice feel to it, friendly staff. Right next to Wine Society shop, so convenient, easy for overnight visit.
Review 4:Room sparsely decorated. Being asked to pay for breakfast when it was included in the room rate from booking.com. This was corrected when pointed out.
Review 5:Breakfast! Friendly staff. Bar service.
Review 6:Room was somewhat average and could have been a little bit cleaner (cobweb on ceiling light and dusty bathroom radiator/towel rail. Room-safe in wardrobe not fixed to wall. Otherwise the room was comfortable and adequate.
Review 7:Friendly and polite staff. Very nice bar. Excellent location and building. Good value for money Pretty good breakfast.
Review 8:The room was a little worn and threadbare. Rather an institutional ambience. On-site parking is expensive and unnecessary - plenty of free street parking right by the hotel.
Review 9:Nice location in the centre of Montreuil, which is itself very well located for travelling to/from the channel ports. Pet-friendly. Lots of rooms - hard to imagine it ever being full.
Review 10:Charging for Wi Fi Carparking not free and not signposted.
Review 11:Warm & Comfortable room Very pleasant hotel interior lots of comfortable seating and very friendly and helpful staff
Review 12:The spa claims a Hamam. Great new name for avturiush steam bath. Do not fall for it. You gave to do all yourself andy Hat defeats the purposes
Review 13:A former hospital of the bonnes sœurs it would s nicely renovated abc superbly located
Review 14:The food at the adjoining restaurant was overpriced and pretentious. Not somewhere I would eat again.
Review 15:Friendly staff, comfortable room, and centrally located
Review 16:Nothing negative at all
Review 17:The Reception Desk manager greeted us warmly and managed to find us a place to park near in the rear car park. The room was spacious and the bathroom excellent with face cloths as well as the variety of towels expected: these are not present in some theoretically higher grade hotels.
Review 18:Nothing
Review 19:Just perfect. It is not the first time we have stayed in this hotel and our only regret is that, due to problems driving north, we had a shorter than planned evening.
Review 20:The hotel is a conversion of an impressive older building, which has led to some oddly shaped rooms and corridors that somehow makes the whole interior feel disharmonious
Review 21:The location is good - especially for visiting the (adjacent) Wine Society - and the staff are friendly
Review 22:I had a disabled room and the shower was floor level with a curtain round. Obviously the floor got wet making it hard for me to walk on with crutches , had to use the used towels to dry floor.
Review 23:I thought the hotel was lovely and would have scored higher but we stayed on a Sunday and the restaurant was closed.
Review 24:Wi Fi reception was poor and slow in both rooms we occupied. An expensive 3 star hotel if not booked at a discount.
Review 25:Located in a picturesque French Town. Secure parking and an impressive building. Helpful friendly staff who speak good English. As we were staying for 7 nights, we were given a free room upgrade after we requested to be moved. Very good breakfast.
Review 26:On checking out, the male receptionist, Danni, was on the telephone. He did not acknowledge that I was waiting. After ten minutes of him chatting to a prospective customer, I interrupted him. He rudely told me he was doing his job. He tried to overcharge me by 90 euros.
Review 27:Good location. Most of the staff very pleasant
Review 28:Breakfast was good but having already paid 135 euros for the room, the further 26 euros for two breakfasts meant I expected a bit more than bread, croissants and some boiled eggs. they could learn from hotel Leomar in Germany which charged 46 euros a night and had a fabulous breakfast
Review 29:very central location. Secure parking. Right next to the Wine Society. Lovely town with good restaurants and many sights of interest. Very quiet and tranquil
Review 30:Not really bad but issue with a blocked sink that took 3 days to resolve and room was only hoovered once in 7 days and that was after asking
Review 31:Lovely Hotel, Friendly staff, Free parking. Location very good.
Review 32:Ambiance was great staff very helpful. Can't fault the hotel in the slightest such that we intend stooping off there in future. The town is under an hour from Calais and is by far the nicest stop off point we have struck upon. The town of Montreuil is beautiful with plenty of little restaurants and brasseries.
Review 33:the only drawback is that quite often the restaurant is closed - this is a pain if you don't want to go out . There are a number of other restaurants in the village - The Chateau is superb but expensive - Le Coq is superb , not so pricey but also closed sometimes - the rest are average to poor .
Review 34:We use this hotel several times a year to break the car journey to / from the south of France and have found it to be consistently very good
Review 35:Breakfast expensive and disappointing. Late booking-in time (4pm).
Review 36:Excellent location near to several good restaurants and the Wine Society showroom. Very good car park.
Review 37:Poor facilities; average breakfast; casual operation. A dirty plate outside a room in our corridor throughout our stay.
Review 38:Goof location and comfortable bed.
Review 39:Room 203 had very grubby blinds at windows, stained carpets, none working lightbulb, had a general feeling of 'tattiness'. Bats in the corridors!
Review 40:Great location and ease of parking. Good wifi available.
Review 41:We arrived at 2.30pm on the Saturday and the member of staff on Reception refused to consider an early check-in; she didn't even check to see if one or both of our rooms were ready. That did not provide a particularly warm welcome.
Review 42:The bar was excellent and there was a real sense of space in the public areas. On the Sunday evening, one member of staff - who was already covering the Reception and bar - was especially helpful when our safe would not open; it needed a new battery.
Review 43:Central in the town and close to lots of places to eat. Spacious room. Good breakfast. Didn't pay for parking as there's lots outside and could see car from room.
Review 44:we had a comfort room and it felt no difference to the ordinary room. Plus is was at the back and as a comfort room would have expected to be at the front with a nice view
Review 45:staff, location
Review 46:The curtains did not close completely so could not block out the light in room 124. Suggest they loosen the gather of the curtain tape which was too tight, and maybe move the track so that it starts at the wall without a gap at the sides.
Review 47:Location
Review 48:Great location and easy parking for an overnight en route to southern France. Hospitality tray in room is great and now they also have decent 'British' shaped pillows as well as the square French type.
Review 49:A great location in the pleasant little town of Montreuil. The hotel is only a short walk to several bars and restaurants. Very convenient for a stop over from the chunnel and perfect if shopping at the wine society. The staff were polite and helpful. The room was very comfortable. Nice bar. Good breakfast.
Review 50:The room did smell of stale tabacco smoke even though it was a non smoking room
Review 51:We have stayed many times in this hotel at the start of our holiday and it still excites us to stay there
Review 52:very poor and very expensive breakfast better to miss this, 24 euros !!!!!! Towel rail did not function.
Review 53:staff good and a good pleasant bar, close to the wine society
Review 54:Convenience for return trip to Northern England from here in one day. Added bonus of being adjacent to the wine society French headquarters though a shame I wasn't aware of the reduction I could have had as a wine soc. Member.
Review 55:Room clean, beds comfortable, secure parking for a few cars, ideal location for last/first stop for channel ports. Town is lovely to walk around and a variety of restaurants.
Review 56:Not altogether clear if the hotel restaurant, renamed, was open or not, hence had dull supper in another establishment.
Review 57:Elegant and lofty rooms with somehow even higher windows, and a frontage with a delightful sunny garden facing the square with its old monastery church.
Review 58:Unfortunately, the interior of the property - and therefore the comfort and convenience of it, is far below that which the architecture deserves. A major interior scheme - to right the wrongs of the interior - think fifties and beyond - and to give the building back its lost identity.
Review 59:The location and the character of the building.
Review 60:Although Wi fi is free, you can only use one appliance at a time, so not good when you each gave an ipad like we do.
Review 61:Great place to stay overnight whilst on a weekend trip to calais and boulogne.
Review 62:Rather poor meal at Anecdote. Appalling starter - ecrivisses - and complaint not handled well. Expensive and unimpressive main course and indifferent service. A disappointing - and relatively expensive - experience.
Review 63:Location, space, staff
Review 64:The bed! Way too hard but that is a personal preference, & pillows were like they were inflated then you rested your head on them & they deflated! Hard to get comfortable.
Review 65:Location, staff polite, friendly & efficient, room lovely size & bright with big windows which opened fully, secure car park, trolleys to take luggage to & from rooms.
Review 66:Nearly changed our hotel on arrival as there was a woman receptionist who was most disagreeable. She discouraged us from everything & continued to eat her lunch from a plastic box. We are glad we did not change - see the lhs box.
Review 67:Staff, spacious rooms, sufficient facilities for a short stay. Contrary to the next box the men receptionists were helpful, friendly and efficient.
Review 68:The décor looks tired and it is a real shame that none of the old building's character remains. It could be any Best Western hotel on the inside.
Review 69:We were lucky to be upgraded to a huge room with good facilities. We made good use of the bar and the reception staff were very helpful with restaurants etc. we also really appreciated the secure parking for our 4 old MGs.
Review 70:Receptionist in the evening was as unhelpful as he could be. The one in the morning was lovely. Shame the former tainted the latter!
Review 71:Good location for a stop-off to or from Calais. Nice town.
Review 72:Breakfast, although good was overpriced. There was a mix up with our bill but was sorted out to our satisfaction.
Review 73:The welcome at reception was excellent. The room was superb. The hotel building was magnificent.
Review 74:The check in times were quite rigid. We arrived half an hour early but no staff were there to take our luggage so we had to repack it.
Review 75:We stayed overnight for bed and breakfast. We had a large, comfortable room with lots of light. breakfast was good and staff friendly and helpful. I enjoyed playing with the egg boiling machine.
Review 76:Disappointing breakfast-have stayed at this hotel several times and on previous stays the breakfasts have been better.
Review 77:Comfortable room in a good location.
Review 78:Very helpful young man at reception / bar. Nothing too much trouble. The comfort rooms were spacious and with high ceilings. The Anecdote restaurant was worth the visit.
Review 79:We arrived very tired after traveling from Gerona in one day! The hotel was warm and comforting and we immediately felt like we had landed in a safe and comfy nest, and even though we were exhausted we took a night cap in the bar and were served by the friendliest waiter I have encountered
Review 80:It is a fantastically charmless but functional hotel nice staff.
Review 81:The location is excellent, the town is lovely and the bar, although ugly, was friendly
Review 82:Drinks tray was appreciated, but only enough milk for one cup of tea OR coffee each.
Review 83:Comfort room on second floor: large comfy bed, wide desk space, tea tray with drinks and biscuits; view over square and church opposite. Easy parking. Arrived early, but our rooms were ready - brill.
Review 84:Lacking a gym, but not a deal breaker.
Review 85:Loved the fact the staff were so attentive to both us and our 2yr old daughter. Nothing was too much trouble, she was welcome wherever we were and there was always the feeling we could ask for anything. Bed was comfortable (even for three or us), the family room was a v good size, clean and cosy. The bar was also a relaxing place to spend time.
Review 86:Everything was good
Review 87:Another extremely comfortable and pleasant stay, the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is conveniently positioned for excursions to surrounding places and within easy reach of many restaurants to suit all tastes.
Review 88:In summer we eat breakfast in cafes around the hotel at a cheaper price & better value. Ate in the hotel this time as it was cold, not good value for money! Bar prices were elevated too!
Review 89:Stayed here prior hence returned as all is good. We get good service, clean bed, disabled ground floor room as per request
Review 90:On arrival after a long journey (Wed) we asked the opening times of the restaurant to be told there wasnt one. At least it was dry and after ten hours driving it was good to have fresh air but trying to find somewhere open was difficult. This hotel should be a 3*...
Review 91:No onsite restaurant, one of our search criteria when we booked - The Jeraboam is attached to the hotel but we were specifically told that this is not part of the hotel. It is closed at the moment as there has been a change of ownership. Hotel looking rather tired and could do with an update. Breakfast and parking rather pricey.
Review 92:Comfortable room, and good value for money. Fine for an overnight stay (but wouldn't want to stay here for longer).
Review 93:We paid extra for a 'Comfort' room which we thought would have a slightly plusher finish.I actually got a twinge of backache from the bed, which wasn't even King Sized! The room turned out to be a room deliberately adapted for a disabled person/couple with a high toilet and support rails and a shower seat.It was impossible to have a shower without flooding a wide area of the bathroom because the shower tray was so shallow and of minimal size.
Review 94:The location was ideal, well within walking distance of many restaurants and shops. A walk around the medieval town ramparts is beautiful with wonderful views for miles. The bar staff are very friendly and accommodating; we were a group of 12 and they always arranged the seating so we could all sit together and kept us topped up lots of tasty complementary nibbles.
Review 95:A friendly hotel with staff that cannot help you enough especially the bar staff who were just great. The rooms are refurbished to a good standard. Great breakfast with a good variety of foods.
Review 96:Breakfast at 13 Euro per head would have added quite a bit to our bill - so we ate out.
Review 97:Within easy reach of Calais, this hotel is in an interesting town. The hotel is very comfortable and reasonably priced, and our request for adjacant rooms was exceeded by inter-linking rooms being provided. This made the visit with our primary aged children a breeze.
Review 98:More importance could have been placed on designing the bar which was long, narrow and totally lacked atmosphere. Barman, however, was charming. Breakfast was uninspiring as was the soulless breakfast room.
Review 99:Central location is excellent and within easy walking distance of many good restaurants, bars and chateau ramparts. Staff could not have been more helpful. Room basic but clean with spacious bathroom and separate wc, always a bonus. Slightly institutional feel to hotel explained by it's original purpose as a hospital. Our bedroom window overlooked one of the town's many picturesque squares.
Review 100:No shelves/ surfaces in the bathroom and a very small wardrobe
Review 101:Big comfortable bed, with plenty of pillows. Pleasant helpful staff. A wide choice of food for breakfast. and a good bar for a nightcap. Have stayed here several times and it is always enjoyable.
Review 102:We did not know the restaurant was closed. We should have been told before booking.
Review 103:Staff were very helpful. Location is perfect. Rooms very large, bed comfortable.
Review 104:Upstairs corridors a little dark and impersonal
Review 105:In the centre of an attractive, historic town, with comfortable, clean, spacious room and good bathroom, welcoming staff, quiet with parking at the door.
Review 106:Being charged extra for breakfast when our booking terms stated breakfast was included in the room rate.
Review 107:Spacious and in a very good town centre location. Good onsite parking at a price.
Review 108:Spacious bedroom with big bathroom and comfortable twin bed with 2 pillows each and more in cupboard if needed. Helpful reception Good choice of food at breakfast and decent coffee
Review 109:I have visited this hotel twice in the past and have enjoyed the stay. On this occasion, I was very disappointed as the room was only suitable for single occupancy.
Review 110:The location and parking facility..
Review 111:Some guest when leaving the hotel each night congregated outside the main entrance to talk and smoke, the same happened as parties said goodnight on the landing outside the room. So it was quite late,circa1am before we could sleep. However, we really like the hotel and will stay again.
Review 112:We had a lovely room overlooking the church square . The bed was very comfortable.
Review 113:My booking advised me that the restaurant was closed on Sundays and Monday. It did not tell me that the restaurant was totally closed for refurbishment when I was booked in on Saturday and no other restaurant would have a table within half a mile
Review 114:Not much
Review 115:Being on ground floor with large window onto car park - had to keep it closed for security and the room then felt very hot. Not very light over the shower, but that's being picky. Reception on arrival felt a little curt and rushed although subsequent encounters with staff were more friendly.
Review 116:Size of room and bathroom; location; nice breakfast.
Review 117:Restaurant closed on Sunday & Monday evenings. Limited choice of restaurants in the town on those days.
Review 118:Staff helpful and welcoming Breakfast goood Comfortable , quiet room
Review 119:Undue noise one morning around 6.00 am unloading what looked like laundry trollies through the main door for what seemed a lond period of tim, immediately below our bedroom window.
Review 120:It's central location in Montreuil adjacent to the Wine Society Warehouse, which was the prime reason for our visit. Large bedroom with comfortable bed with adequate en-suite facilities. Excellent bar.
Review 121:Asked to leave car park and told it was booked. Places then available all night, and visible beneath our bedroom window. No restaurant. Grubby public areas, and room carpet. Sent to wrong room. Very ordinary breakfast. Low staff perceptions of customer service. Poor value.
Review 122:Bed linen and clean bathroom
Review 123:Hotel often used for vintage car rallies making parking on site impossible and collecting wine from Wine Society shop difficult. Restaurant (temporarily) closed.
Review 124:Knowledgeable, friendly staff. Great location. Good size room and bathroom.
Review 125:Good location. Lovely big airy rooms with windows we could open to let fresh air in.. Big bathroom with plenty of amenities . Good standard of cleanliness. Pleasant staff specially the man on the front desk who went out of his way to greet us and give information.
Review 126:Carpet in room stained and dirty. Cups in room were dirty. Breakfast was poor value, not enough choice of hot food. Car parking charge is excessive.
Review 127:Comfortable bed
Review 128:Restaurant - not available - we were not informed prior to visit. Room décor - dull and uninspiring - although very welcoming in rest of Hotel.
Review 129:Staff - First class. Cleanliness - Excellent. Car parking facilities. Breakfast - very good.
Review 130:Breakfast is a bit expensive for what you get, but it is typical restaurant price. Our room was on the ground floor but the windows did not lock ajar. The wireless reception and speed were poor.
Review 131:The hotel was easy to find, and in a great quiet location in Montreuil. The staff were very helpful. My dad is in a wheelchair and they put him in a great room located very close to the restaurant and entrance.
Review 132:I was not impressed that we had to pay for car parking at the hotel. i was lead to believe that as members of the wine society that we got a discount this was also not true
Review 133:They put us in a small back room. with two windows: one overlooking some back alley and one directly behind, and looking straight at the massive fire escape stairs. Although everything else about the hotel was very good, the cramped, hemmed-in feeling caused by the ugly outlook from both windows detracted much from the rest of our experience.
Review 134:secure parking (charged for). Good central location. Outstanding breakfast.
Review 135:wi-fi did not work very well: weak signal. Restaurant closed. Would be good if bar could offer light meal on a Sunday?
Review 136:Long journey coming from Toulouse and last part drove through rain and cloud so pleased to find: Spacious bathroom with fluffy towels, nice toilettries, warm. Great beds with duvets. Good breakfast: plenty of variety
The Fine Print
Please note that the hotel restaurant is closed every Sunday and Monday evening.
