Reviews for Grand Hotel de L'Océan
Review 1:Non-frosted glass bath and shower room not to our liking. Expensive but still good value except 14 euro breakfast (which we did not take on principle)
Review 2:The location on the sea front
Review 3:First superior room we were allocated was very dull, plain and dark. The bathroom only had a hand-held shower above a very deep bath which made it very difficult to wash hair. After complaining we were given a far better room with a larger terrace, proper shower and even adjustable beds and wonderful view. This surprisingly was the same price as the first. No cooked breakfast available.
Review 4:Amazing location, good bistro and gourmet restaurant. Seafood excellent. Very helpful staff - specially Flora.
Review 5:No bar area it's a restaurant with rooms but would certainly not stop us returning!
Review 6:Fantastic location with a wonderful view from the balcony. Best bed ever slept in! Excellent food if not a little pricy.
Review 7:Would have been great to have a pool or beach side cafe. Advance notice of required reservation for the restaurant would have been helpful.
Review 8:Amazing location and friendly staff.
Review 9:nothing we didn't like except that we didn't stay longer
Review 10:our room, with an enormous terace, view over the sea and beach. The restaurant was also excellent near to La Baule and Guerande
Review 11:Not so keen on the glass walled shower room which doesn't offer much privacy to the person using it. Rooms a bit pricey for the facilities offered, this is really two upscale restaurants with a number of rooms attached.
Review 12:Wonderful, modern and stylish room overlooking the sea. Impressed to have sun beds on our balcony as well as table and chairs. Extremely comfortable bed, like the bare floorboards which give a sea-Sidney feel to the room.
Review 13:Warning! If you want to spend a relaxed and tranquil vacation do NOT book this place. The hotel is located at the Atlantic ocean BUT also at the main street incl. construction work on the opposite. We had a classic room facing the main street on top of the bistro. Unfortunately, during our first night they had an private event with many guests and we were unable to sleep until 03:00 am! We left after the first night because the manager on duty was totally unable or unwilling (?) to offer us a different room or to solve the issue in a CUSTOMER-oriented way. We checked in to Le Fort de L'Ocean which we can absolutely recommend. Vorsicht!
Review 14:The Breakfast was most disappointing with only juice, cereal, yoghurt and pastries. I explained that I could not eat any dairy products and I was reluctantly offered two fried eggs and a side plate of rye bread. I felt that after such a wonderful evening meal, room and location, that hotel really let itself down with breakfast. It would not be difficult to add cheeses and cold meats to the menu with some fresh fruit. The coffee was good but we had to ask twice for cups!
Review 15:Probably the location and quality of the room plus a superb meal in the evening.
Review 16:I came back after 30 years to find it was better than ever! The view from our room was sublime. We were fortunate to have excellent weather and we were able to swim each day in the bay. We had dinner in the restaurant which was also superb. The staff were professional and polite.
Review 17:The breakfast wasn't worth the 14€ asked for it and the restaurant was also overpriced but the setting was great.
Review 18:They say location is everything and for this hotel is perfectly located on a small sandy bay but within walking distance to the port and centre of St Valery.
Review 19:SUPERB SITUATION - VERY HELPFUL STAFF - A MOST ENJOYABLE STAY
Review 20:Well managed, superior quality hotel with 2 outstanding restaurants.
Review 21:Superb location, Friendly staff, excellent dining
Review 22:Overpriced. Other than the excellent location, nothing really can justify the price. Outdated furniture, bathroom not properly functioning. Horrible smell in room which we could not get rid off even with all windows and doors open. The fact that we got food poisoning from the hotel's extremely expensive restaurant certainly did not help
Review 23:Unique location
Review 24:Although the room was comfortable and the bed especially the room design was odd - the toilet was in a cupboard with a glass door and a curtain for privacy, the bathroom was new but only a hand shower, no proper walk in shower- we were led to believe on booking in the description on booking.com that there would be a shower. There was also no air con and this also was stated on booking that we would have air con.In the bistro service was very slow but the fish was fabulous - we think they were probably just very busy.
Review 25:The location is fabulous with dramatic and spectacular views of the ocean. The food in the bistro was excellent.
Review 26:Very nice destination for a short break, stunning views, very good hotel for the French as they don't normally do quality modern hotels.
