Reviews for Seehotel Grüner Baum

Review 1:- Some of the staff at the reception are not very friendly or professional - Scratches here and there (especially around the luggage area) on the wall inside the hotel room - Breakfast is very standard - just like any breakfast buffet that can be easily found in any hotels around Europe - While the hotel restaurant is rated as the best one in Hallstatt, my specifically demanded "medium rare" steak was at least 70% cooked and hard and dry - Found some dirt / hair in the bathtub and on the bathroom floor towel. - TV not working at all. It gives a fancy list of programs and info channels but none of it works.

Review 2:- Great view from the room(s) facing the lake - Free hammam and sauna for hotel guests - The bathroom is very spacious and gives a clean feeling

Review 3:The only negative and it was significant is that there were building works outside which begun at 5.45am. Our room's view was along an alley way onto these roadworks. I assume there were rooms with wonderful views of the lake but we weren't one of the fortunate guests. Most hotels would offer a token discount in light of the building works.

Review 4:It was clean hotel with friendly staff and a great location. Breakfast was great.

Review 5:Nothing

Review 6:Location is perfect- we had a view of the market square and mountains. The hotel including bedrooms is really beautifully appointed. Restaurant is very good. Staff very helpful.

Review 7:The staff was so friendly and was always showing enthusiasm while helping me. They put a few items like chocolate, tea and so on in my room which were free The location! it can't get any better choosing a hotel in Hallstatt - directly by the lake and in the heart of Hallstatt. 2 minutes away from the ferry. The hotel is furnished in a typical upper-austrian way. 10 out of 10 !

Review 8:One could say the price, but Hallstatt is in any case expensive (though it always depends where you come from!)

Review 9:Whatever room you have - either to the lake or the central square - the views from the hotel are fascinating. If it is included, it is a pleasure to have breakfast while gazing at the lake. The SPA (although not remarkable) is also a pro. They request customers to provide their feedback and this is always a nice gesture.

Review 10:It has a price

Review 11:Very confortable hotel, with a distinctive contemporary look in a traditional house (beautiful staircase). Fantastic location on the central square and overlooking the lake. Restaurant is very good too.

Review 12:Note there is no parking in the village or at the hotel and the car park is a good 20 mins walk. there is a lift in the hotel but only goes to the 3rd floor. (there are 4 floors). The village is very picturesque but note if staying for longer than a couple of days you may want to have a car to get out and about.

Review 13:The hotel is located right on the lake and the views from the restaurant are stunning. The staff are very helpful & friendly. The food in the restaurant is of a high standard. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a short break.

Review 14:One lovely touch was that after we checked in and left the room to explore, we came back to find some cake had been left for us in our room. Also the hotel has an astute cat who attended breakfast and ignored everybody while watching the birdlife on the lake from the windows. The hotel was quiet and well located on the lake shore (it's worth getting a room with a lake view). Breakfast was very good, as was the restaurant, in which we ate the night before (we are both vegetarian). Staff at reception and elsewhere were very friendly. Lovely hotel, enjoy the Sisi stairs!!

Review 15:nice location, its restaurant has a nice view. if you travel by train, in order to reach here, you must take a ferry and the hotel is just next to it.

Review 16:we were unable to control the heat in our room and it was rather warm. We opened the windows to help.

Review 17:Cute and quaint hotel. Good service, great breakfast. The little treats and smiling staff were excellent. We would absolutely stay here again. Picturesque.

Review 18:Doors were difficult to open and close. Rooms were way too warm *first-world problems*

Review 19:Staff -> professional. Food -> exceptional. View -> breathtaking. Transport -> very easy. Room -> clean, huge, well-facilitated

Review 20:Though Hallstatt is extremely small and one can walk it in an hour, this is the ideal place to stay. It's the only property that sits directly on the lake offering an unobstructed view of the lake. The staff is very friendly and nice. The food at the restaurant is very delicious and the room we stayed in (balcony facing the lake) was breathtaking. I had a tough time leaving this wonderful hotel.

Review 21:The room temperature is a bit high which made us only can open the window to cool down:-)

Review 22:Great hotel. Friendly staff, comfortable room with lake view. Great food, and most importantly--Lovely cat!

Review 23:Only problem is the difficulty for older person to shower in the high sided tub Small area rugs used in bed room can cause a slip and fall

Review 24:The beautiful view from the rooms with balcony overlooking lake The location easy walk around village

Review 25:We travelled by train and ferry. Walking distance to hotel is 50 mtrs. Very convenient. A very comfortable hotel. The bathroom huge, maybe could have had more towel rails, but very clean. Breakfast was also very good. We will definitely stay here again

Review 26:We would definitely stay here again as it is a great hotel and location. However the room was way to hot with no way to control the heat in our room - the staff seemed proud of the "whole floor" radiant heat system - sounds good, but doesn't work. Also, our balcony table was warped - there's no place for this in a hotel of this caliber. Nonetheless we'd stay again in a heartbeat.

Review 27:Awesome location and a great view of the lake. Staff was excellent and very professional.

Review 28:A balcony is facing a lake, a stunning lake view, can enjoy stars at balcony area in the night. Satisfaction of breakfast, varies kind of foods, good taste. Near a pier.

Review 29:None.

Review 30:The location of the hotel is outstandingly great. I could see both city view and lake view. Actually, I and my wife like everything the hotel has offered.

Review 31:Location is perfect! Amazing lake view. The guy in the reception is very pleasant. Breakfast is not that bad. Highly recommended to friends. We will definitely stay again.

Review 32:Shower had no curtain, which was kind of strange. And the temp in our room was extremely hot without a way to turn it down. Also, there was no take away menu for the restaurant, which is no big deal, but they charge to bring up food but you end up having to go down anyway to see the menu.

Review 33:Beds were very comfy, very fast wifi, friendly staff, right in the center of town, delicious food in restaurant, free breakfast, chill cat roaming around, beautiful views.

Review 34:The wood trims around the walls appeared to be old and coming loose but it is a small issue.

Review 35:The room is fantastic with a stunning view of the lake. Totally worth paying a little bit more. Breakfast was good too with a lot of varieties. Bathroom has a big bathtub which you can relax in after hiking and walking around the old town.

Review 36:Wooden floor gave us a great feeling of holiday, but there were some mold which provided a little bit of wet odor. If someone is alergic to it, this should be considered, I think.

Review 37:* Great location : having a breakfast with the view of lake and mountain was very calming and beatiful. Also I was able to enjoy it in my room. * Clean and spacious room and bathroom * Kind staffs!

Review 38:none

Review 39:The hotel staff (Julia and Christopher) are very helpful. They responded my query promptly. Hotel facility is really nice. Dinner is terrific. I ordered Trout soup and main dish, they were tasty. Ambience is prefect.

Review 40:Power in my daughter's room tripped due to an overfull kettle being boiled in another room on her floor (floor 4). Fire alarm went off and there was nobody in the hotel attending to the problem at that time (6:00 in the morning). Alarm and power were only reset when admin staff came in at 8:00.

Review 41:Location of hotel and friendly attentive restaurant personnel. The special effort by an admin staff member to organise a taxi for us to Salzburg (went out of his way to organise the best deal).

Review 42:Well, the bathroom is small and the design is unreasonable cause it did not have any room to hang something or place shampoo, etc.

Review 43:The location is perfect. The staff is friendly. The restaurant is great. I think it is the best hotel in Hallstatt.

Review 44:The staff was amazing. They ensured that the restaurant would wait for us before closing as our flight got delayed into Vienna, and we reached Hallstatt at 8.30pm!

Review 45:Heating was on too high and couldn't find where to turn it down. ? Central heating.

Review 46:Fantastic hotel, right in the middle of the main square. Great room and breakfast.

Review 47:Food for breakfast is not much variety.

Review 48:At this hotel, there is spa room with sauna which you can use for free. It make me relay after walking for whole day. Moreover, since there are outdoor table which you can enjoy eating with the superb lake view of Hallstatt. Unfortunately, there is raining during my stay. Therefore, I have to sit indoor.

Review 49:No temperature controls in the room (that I was aware of). I didn't complain, though. An open window fixed that.

Review 50:The free edible extras were nice and unexpected. Design was top notch.

Review 51:The restaurant in the hotel seemed a little expensive.

Review 52:Beautiful hotel with stunning views of the lake. We booked a room with Balcony and lake view and was not at all disappointed. Spending time in the balcony watching the lake and the mountains in the background was one of the most relaxing things I have done in the recent past. Decent breakfast and close to the old town. There is a roadside food stall right next to the hotel where you can buy food for dinner at a cheaper price. I felt the hotel is a bit on the expensive side but the cleanliness, location and the views will make you forget about the money. I would come back again to the same hotel if Hallstatt happens to be in my itinerary.

Review 53:the bath room door is broken, when shower, all floor will wet.

Review 54:The hotel is in good location, easy to found it. They have very good lake view restaurant. The room is very clean, wifi strong. Staff is very friendly, helpful & smiling. Feel warming when received their desert.

Review 55:Amazing hotel! We had a room overlooking the lake and it was perfect and very romantic. Staff were very polite and helpful. Highly recommended and we will definitely be staying here again the next time we visit Hallstatt!

Review 56:Breakfast was good but could have been of more choices

Review 57:Big and clean room that was much larger than I saw the pictures online! View of the church and some parts of the lake. Free mineral water, coffee, tea, chocolates and peanuts, everyday, and suprisely some cakes too! Nice staff.

Review 58:-we booked the Junior Suite with a big private terrace room and still have to pay 25EUR for the babycot. So, we decided to let our baby slept on the same bed. The reception lady email me later that it's free of charge when we stay for 2 nights.?! Eventhough we didn't use the babycot they still charge me 25EUR when check out. Luckily we checked so, she gave money back to our credit card. -not much choice at breakfast.

Review 59:-beautiful views, beautiful room -great dinner at the hotel too

Review 60:We wanted to have a dinner at the hotel restaurant. Got prepared and were waiting for a romantic candle light dinner. We went to the restaurant at 9:05 pm and they informed that kitchen closes at 9 pm and we are not able to have a dinner there. I asked for an alternative and they suggested the kebab kiosk around the corner. My girlfriend almost cried out of disappointment. There was a pizzeria a bit out of the old town where we could sit and eat.

Review 61:The hotel is on an amazing location and the hotel itself, rooms and so on are terribly good.

Review 62:The room decorations are dated. You are not allowed to have breakfast at the lake side. Car park is too far away and the instruction for shuttle bus is not clear.

Review 63:Location just at the beautiful lake side.

Review 64:The amendity in the hotwl was a little out of date.

Review 65:The staff in the hotel was very friendly and willing to help. The lake front location was also excellent.

Review 66:Breakfast from 8am only - did not suit our timetable as we had to catch the 8.10am ferry back to the railway station. To be fair, we were offered a packed box to be given to us the night before departure, which we refused. Don't know if there would have been an additional charge for this.

Review 67:Handy location on the lake in the middle of the market place and a short walk to the ferry. Newly renovated in the last couple of years. The room was very large with a separate sitting area with TV (no TV in bedroom) but in comparison the bathroom was disappointingly small. Bedside lamps not suitable for reading in bed.

Review 68:1) Floor-heating, too warm in the rooms, you cannot regulate yourself. 2) Arrived at noon, Early Check-in was not possible, not even at 02.30pm.....you have to wait until 3.00pm, bit strange.

Review 69:Location is very good! Right in the center, direct waterfront.

Review 70:Toilet didn't flush and sink did not drain properly. I got bitten by bed bugs and my body erupted in swollen bites. On inspection of the bed linen and mattress, black dots confirmed traces of bed bugs. To be fair to the hotel, they did respond straight away when we complained and upgraded us to a better room but by then the damage had been done. Service in bar/restaurant was inconsistent.

Review 71:Location, location, location

Review 72:NIL

Review 73:The hotel is located at the centre of the town. Room was nice and comfortable. The staff was friendly and able to help to check for the opening time of the ice cave / saltmine as the weather during our stay was not good. We had the dinner at the restaurant; if you travelled with a group of friends, definitely need to reserve a table for dinner in advance within this small town.

Review 74:The breakfast staff less so. We chose not to eat at the restaurant because you had to "walk through" a cloud of smoke to get there from the lobby (move the smoking somewhere else guys!). The breakfast itself was adequate but probably the worse we had in both Germany and Austria.

Review 75:The front desk staff was very helpful. Our room was awesome, the balcony small but what a view. We visited Halstatt 15 years ago and found the "hotel shuttle" to be an improvement, make sure you read the hotels emails to you as it is important to get in parking lot 1 if you can when you get to town.

Review 76:When I went to the main restaurant at 5:30pm the day we arrived to see about getting a table for us next to the lakeview window, I was told we couldn't have any table but one of two by the serving area because the restaurant was fully booked for a tour group at 7:00. There was nobody in the restaurant at the time. I pointed out how ridiculous that was and went to our room to tell my wife. When we came down a5 minutes later to go out, we were offered a table by the window but told we had only one hour to eat. I didn't bother to ask how that would be enforced because the whole idea was insulting. By the way, most of the tour group would not have been able to sit by the window, anyway. So I wonder why one couple was denied the right to a table with a view when most of the group wouldn't have gotten a table by the window anyway.

Review 77:The hotel is an Alpine gem in a famously picturesque village, right on both the main town square and the lake.

Review 78:The location is the best. From balony of the room, I admire the Hallstatt scene, it is very beautiful scene and I love it very much. Marvellous views. And the officer is very kindness and helpful for evertything, he services with good service mind with his smile.

Review 79:Top floor rooms were small and looked like everything came from Home Depot. A bit tacky.

Review 80:Reception staff was great. Bar and restaurant staff were pretenious.

Review 81:Nothing!

Review 82:Excellent location, right off the boat dock. Whether you are assigned to a view facing the lake or the market they are simply the best. Good friendly staffs. Restaurant food was very good. Provided all amenities needed.

Review 83:The breakfast was good but the room was quite small and difficult to manoeuvre with a lot of guests.

Review 84:The location of the hotel was great, although Hallstatt is quite small. Our room was very comfortable and clean, the bathroom was fantastic and had a huge bathtub that we appreciated after a busy day.

Review 85:the room was too small for the category we booked. the room size must had been 30 sqm but its was quit smaller and at the reception thay was unkindly and didnt want to change the room.the price is very high for what you get

Review 86:small hotel on the lake shore, nice view on the lake and great locationat the markt squre, a few steps from the boat to the train station. good restaurant for dinner.

Review 87:The breakfast time was a bit confused due to too many guests. No plates and bowls can be provided for somewhile.

Review 88:The staff is nice and helpful. The location of the hotel is excellent. We have had our dinner at the restaurant and that was really good.

Review 89:restaurant staff w/ attitude, ran out of seating for breakfast crowd that started at 8am the latest among my AT hotels, trays were emptied & took forever for kitchen to replenish, they were charging extra for hot eggs & Bacon other 4 star hotels offered for their breakfast deal, Gasthof Zauner had better grilled trout than the grilled Reinanke here for dinner

Review 90:yummy good night pastry cube, great view fr Pontoon, great receptionists, location near schiff station

Review 91:Restaurant staffs are all male; much more confortable if they are female. At breakfast, when you arrive late or crowded times, no coffee was served until you asked.

Review 92:Location is perfect(you can have a view as if almost on the water).

Review 93:The waiter and waitress weren't very attentive or friendly during breakfast but this could have been due to the fact that there was a concert going on during our stay and the hotel was fully booked hence, at its busiest

Review 94:The location. We had a great room with a large balcony with a brilliant view of the lake.

Review 95:Breakfast seemed to be catered to a certain ethnic group. Very disappointed.

Review 96:Location was great. Room was perfect. The hotel staff in office were top notch!

Review 97:Room for improvement with presentation of breakfast, friendly welcome or good morning was missing when entering the breakfast area although one of the waiters was standing in front of the bar. Maybe lack of training or experience.

Review 98:Room, especially bathroom, Furniture, style, architecture. Friendliness of cleaning staff.

Review 99:The price is on the high end, compared to others in town and the facility that it offers.

Review 100:It is the iconic yellow hotel in the heart of Hallstatt. Nice view in room facing the lake. Breathtaking experience to wake up early in the very center of the town: Sun shining on the houses, and no tourist crowds.

Review 101:The staff were excellent and came to the room immediately when the TV wasn't working. Location was great and the restaurant was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the view.

Review 102:The hotel was right in the centre of town overlooking the lake. We upgraded to a room with a balcony overlooking the lake and were so glad we did. The staff were fantastic, the rooms beautiful and breakfast was great. A perfect stay.

Review 103:Breakfast starts from 8am, which is too late. Since we have to take train early, we could not make time and enjoy breakfast. Restaurant on the ground floor has great view, but food did not fill the bill.

Review 104:Location was great. Very close from the Schifffahrt. We could enjoy historic atmosphere of the hotel. Some guidebooks have reviewed that the hotel don't have lift, but it does have lift. So don't worry for carrying heavy luggage.

Review 105:The hotel is over run by tour groups. As a family traveling here we felt overwhelmed by these groups. The staff is probably overwhelmed and could care less of giving personal attention. What I imagined this hotel to be was far from the restful idealic setting. I could have skipped this location really not worth the money. Definitely not luxury. The hotel interior design choices are poor.

Review 106:The hotel is well situated. Nice size of the superior room. The staff were nice.

Review 107:We found the food in the restaurant for dinner was a little underwhelming for the price and would probably choose to eat elsewhere.

Review 108:I would struggle to think how the hotel rooms could be improved here, they were beautifully presented and extremely comfortable. The wifi was superb and the location is unrivaled in Hallstatt. The breakfast was good and the staff were helpful. We found that one night in Hallstatt just wasn't long enough for all there is to see so we would certainly return and stay here again.

Review 109:We stayed in the roof-top room. My husband bumped his head hard on the tilting low ceiling. Anyway, it is still a good hotel to stay-in. However, remember to request for a room not on the rooftop.

Review 110:The location and the breakfast.

Review 111:Room was a bit hot as no air conditioning

Review 112:Perfect and best location in all of Hallstatt Front desk staff provided fantastic service Excellent bathroom Beautiful views

Review 113:The location between the lake and the small market square was ideal. Staff very helpful. Deck on lake side was huge and the hotel has the best food in town. Very easy walk from the ferry wharf.

Review 114:Balconies are quite small, as rooms are as well. Odd that bathroom is so glorious, and room space so limited. Not enough room in breakfast room to fit all their guests... rather a madhouse, so get there early.

Review 115:The views from the lakeside rooms are gorgeous! On-location restaurant has great dinner! Staff speaks clear English, and quite helpful! Awesome central location!

Review 116:meal serve is a little slow

Review 117:Very beautiful hotel! Located just beside the church, center of the square. Comfortable room , 3windows towards the square, beautiful view. We like it! Will come again

Review 118:Booking was complicated (despite confirmation from booking.com, hotel asked for credit card details to be faxed before confirming booking, took several emails to have it straightened out

Review 119:Great location

Review 120:I can only really fault the bed duvet/blanket choice. They gave thick, hot duvets during a heatwave weekend, making it even harder to sleep. Some fried food aka Full English breakfast would also have been nice in the morning, but other options were perfectly reasonable.

Review 121:Best location in town with stunning views. Staff were all polite and very helpful, and the hotel met our every need.

Review 122:Very conveniently located by the beautiful lakeside and the main town square Marktplatz. The staff was courteous, warm and friendly. The room itself was very spacious and nicely decorated. Housekeeping was diligent and kept the rooms very clean. The restaurant was especially nice with lakeside tables and a menu with enough variety of food and wine to satisfy most people. Our waiter Robert was especially kind and really took care of us despite us arriving one hour later than our reservation. The food was not out-of-this-world spectacular but nevertheless delicious to the palate. Overall a wonderful experience and I would definitely visit again.

Review 123:1. expensive cost. 2. small room..(but restroom was nice) 3. when i was open the door, saw a wall.

Review 124:1. nice staff 2. near the port 3. restroom was so nice! i think, restroom was bigger than room.

Review 125:Nothing.

Review 126:In the middle of the town, facing with the plaza. 3 mins walking to famous photographing point. Breakfast is good. The room facilities are as expected. And the price is competitive to the ones nearby.

Review 127:I am not sure that there is aircon in the room. It was super warm when I stayed there

Review 128:Location is excellent, right in front of the water. Breakfast array is more than expected. Staffs are prompt and friendly

Review 129:Breakfast could be better./ noise from restuarant should have air con so i can close the window to reduce noise from 6.00-10.30 pm.

Review 130:Location great view

Review 131:Hallstatt is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Words cannot describe the charm and beauty. This property was beautiful and the staff were amazing. The restaurant food was outstanding, especially if you can get a table by the lake. Highly recommend!!

Review 132:The hotel is way overpriced. It's definitely not a 4-star hotel as the rooms are pretty old and outdated and in a desperate need of renovation. Services are not 4 stars either. For me it was the only 4 star hotel in Austria where the fan is not provided during the hot summer days. For this matter avoid the rooms facing the square as you won't be able to open the windows neither during the day, nor during the night. The square is a heart of Hallstatt and it's always crowded with (noisy) tourists and in the nighttime there's a bar on the square which will not let you sleep until the very morning. The room is quite spacious but the bathroom was the tiniest I've seen in my life. The breakfast was a joke. In a 4-star hotel you have to pay extra if you want warm dishes like scrambled egg. Overall it was a horrible experience. Never again.

Review 133:it is in a very center of the village and right on the shore of the lake.

Review 134:Would have liked breakfast a bit earlier as in summer it can get quite hot. So to have an early start is better.

Review 135:Great hotel, staff friendly, helpful, location great.

The Fine Print
