Reviews for The Manor Hotel

Review 1:As usual in hotels the pressure of water in the shower could have been greater

Review 2:The bed (a super king ) and the pillows ( memory foam ) were the most comfortable I have ever slept on in an hotel The Welsh breakfast was delicious, Two eggs, black pudding sausage, baked beans, two rashers of very lean bacon, half a fresh tomato and five mushrooms.also unlimited toast, fresh juice and real coffee...

Review 3:The shower was small and there wasn't much storage space for two people in a superior room, pay for a best room, it will be worth it.

Review 4:Beautiful view. Breakfast was delicious. Comfortable relaxed atmosphere with very friendly staff. Visiting friends or we would have had dinner as well.

Review 5:Wifi poor. It would be nice if smokers could have some shelter from the rain.

Review 6:It's worth staying there just for the views. But it's pretty comfortable too.

Review 7:The Manor Hotel is an ideal venue for a wedding..everything was quite perfect for our beautiful couple. As I am a Coeliac, it was important that their Chef and staff were fully aware of the intolerance..In fact they were brilliant..can't praise them enough.

Review 8:Excellent hotel, we were really surprised at how good it was for the price. Very helpful staff. Nice restaurant. Gym and swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were so lovely after a days walking. Only a short walk from Crickhowell, and lovely walks on the doorstep. Would definitely go back.

Review 9:Bed was way too soft and shower adjustment although not broken was not easy to use. Showers in leisure area are also too hot for comfort. Room overlooked walled enclosure where beer kegs were stored - and put out early on a Sunday morning.

Review 10:The leisure facilities are lovely.

Review 11:Disappointed with the pool and spa (part of our original reason for choosing this one). Very cold pool and chaotic changing facilities.

Review 12:Beautiful views over to the Brecons Superb food: very impressed with both dinner and breakfast

Review 13:We had a puncture travelling to the hotel. We had to call ahead as the reception was only open until 11pm. We arrived about 11.10pm - they waited for us. However, they had already said that if required they could make alternative arrangements to give us access to the room.

Review 14:Room was fine - a little poorly thought-out in terms of furniture positioning i.e. mirror not directly above the dressing table and too high to see yourself in when sat down, cupboard was full of clutter and untidy. Very thin walls.

Review 15:Friendly staff (mostly). View was lovely. Breakfast was good. Plenty of parking. Overall an enjoyable stay.

Review 16:bedrooms not up to scratch. Looking old, tired and a little grubby. Breakfast buffet tired looking.

Review 17:Beautiful hotel in beautiful valley staff accommodating.

Review 18:Our room was above the function hall which was noisy but we were told that the music would stop at midnight and it did

Review 19:The staff were very friendly and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in

Review 20:Our room,No 10, had an awful view of the roof and was poorly decorated. The room was cold at first and so reception had to bring up a small heater. There was no ironing board as indicated and this too had to be reported.

Review 21:Location

Review 22:The breakfasts were obviously prepared hours before eating. They were very poor and let the stay down badly. Poor choice in cold buffet. Baked beans were very dry as was the bacon. I asked for the chef to give me soft poached eggs on both mornings and both times I received hard boiled! Very poor standard. Such a shame as I have eatern evening meals there many times including this stay ( I used to live locally) and the food has always been good - must be a different chef in the mornings!

Review 23:All staff were friendly. Allowing pets to stay. Car parking right next to hotel Ambience in downstairs rooms View is amazing Ease of booking

Review 24:Hi Fi was virtually impossible to use in our bedroom. Needed to go downstairs in a public area

Review 25:Hotel is in a fantastic position. Lots of good walks and a lovely little town

Review 26:The hotel "decor" is a real mishmash & bedrooms in the extension are very tired & poorly laid out.

Review 27:Views were lovely, staff very friendly & food pretty good.

Review 28:Ordered tempura battered fish from the menu, which turned out to be ordinary fish shop batter that was still raw inside. No improvement at breakfast toast was white no colour at all. If you want to eat food prepared by an idiot try the Manor Crickhowell

Review 29:bed was perfect for my wife, but too soft for me, if you have a back problem and need a firm bed you could always sleep on the floor

Review 30:Our room had a floor which wasn't horizontal. OK, maybe that's part of the charm, but it did mean that the bed was at an angle, and all too easy to slide out of one side.

Review 31:Location is splendid. There is a fantastic view from the hotel. The swimming pool is great for waking you up in the morning.

Review 32:- My parents' room got quite hot as the air didn't blow through for some reason. - A reception staff wasn't helpful to me but she changed her attitude towards my partner.

Review 33:- One staff who served us at our dinner table was extremely lovely, helpful and friendly. His service was one of the best! - We had breakfast outside with the view and fresh air. - There is a small swimming pool with a sauna and steam room.

Review 34:The room without a view !

Review 35:The staff were very polite and helpful. Food was good and plenty of room to relax in the lounges. The little bit of history.

Review 36:Rather tired, with rumbling boiler in locked cupboard. Breakfast only average, with hard baked beans and cold tasteless sausages. Overpriced for rather scruffy room.

Review 37:Nice swimming pool, reasonable staff and good bacon.

Review 38:We attended after a wedding a couple before us waited over an hour for breakfast We arrived at midnight and left after breakfast. Had no extra meals or drinks yet the bill showed food we had not had eventually it was taken off our bill which was off putting

Review 39:nothing really problably the (low) noise outside at the back, but this is inherent to the rooms at lower price which are offered through booking.com

Review 40:Excellent hotel with great view. Were lucky with a price reduction due to cancellation. friendly staff, large choice in breakfast big room swimming pool and fitness room (which we didn't really used)

Review 41:I was told the gym opened at 7am by reception, i was there on the dot. I waited twenty minutes with no staff around, so in the end called reception. I was then told it didn't open til 8. the lady not he phone even said "I would let you in, but I don't have access to the computer". This is very upsetting and bad customer service. The overall cost of the hotel was too expensive for the actual services and quality of the rooms. We have stayed in much nicer hotels with better services for almost half the price.

Review 42:the staff were very friendly and welcoming. location was handy for continuing on, and food in the restaurant was very tasty (breakfast and dinner).

Review 43:No proper TV reception, very frustrating when trying to watch an important tennis match and Cardiff Singer of the world!!

Review 44:The wonderful views and location and very friendly staff. The spa, sauna and gym were a bonus.

Review 45:Room at the rear.....too hot above boiler room or something similar. Also noisy extractor at night.

Review 46:The location and view from the terrace are amazing.

Review 47:Nothing

Review 48:Our two night stay was fantastic. The hotel was excellent, the food was amazing and the staff very friendly and helpful. The view from the hotel was worth the price alone.

Review 49:Service at dinner first night was poor ,we waited a long time just for 2mains and we were not asked if we would like drinks ,next dinner service very good . A full length mirror would have been useful . I would have liked the choice of natural yogurt to go with the cut up fruit , there were flavoured yogurts .

Review 50:Our room had beautiful views and the same view from the terrace . Food was excellent breakfast and dinner ! Used the small gym and small pool with the extra of sauna , steam and jacuzzi.

Review 51:How small the room was for the price we paid

Review 52:Staff were very friendly Just think the room was very over priced for what it was, very small and not very comfy. Breakfast was small and not that nice, the place is overall lovely just needs to be updated.

Review 53:Hotel decoration is tired overall and our room was shockingly bad. Our room 22, was over the pool so ridiculously hot and smelt of chlorine and with a noisy badly working aircon, 'double bed' was two uncomfortable singles pushed together. Shower lacked any power at all. Window wouldn't open easily either, view over looking the barrels and back wall...not great at all, and this really spoilt our stay at the Hotel. £95 a night for this room was very overpriced.

Review 54:Location is superb, food in the restaurant is really good with great service and friendly staff!

Review 55:When we arrived we were met by a very a rude gentleman member of staff at reception, not a good start. When we returned later, a lovely young lady greeted us properly.

Review 56:Very comfortable bed, great view over the beautiful scenery.

Review 57:Unwelcoming reception staff on arrival and departure made me feel this hotel was overpriced, not just because I was a single traveller. Room quite basic despite fourposter!

Review 58:Food good and good value

Review 59:Unfortunately our room was directly above the function room and we could hear the live band word for word like they were in the room with us. Standard on a Saturday night as I was told but not ideal for us after a nightmare 6 hour journey and a big days trekking ahead of us. A misunderstanding on the management front but as the hotel was at full capacity, we had to stay in that room and barely slept. The staff apologised and arranged alternative accommodation for the following night. So a heads up if you really require a good nights sleep - call ahead and request a room on the opposite side of the hotel!!

Review 60:Exceptionally beautiful setting and very helpful and attentive staff - especially when our breakfast waitress arranged for my 27 year old friend to have toast soldiers shaped like actual soldiers to make us laugh! Pool is pretty small so not ideal for really stretching your legs but lovely and relaxing and just what we needed after a long day trekking. The food was beautiful. Faultless!

Review 61:Wifi a little patchy in our room but it's only a minor gripe!

Review 62:Gorgeous bed and room. Comfort like no other! Superb food. Attentive friendly and professional staff. Couldn't be more helpful. Peaceful and tranquil. Lovely ambiance.

Review 63:Shower was not good nor the hairdryer. Curtains kept coming off rail.

Review 64:Food was very good. Virtually all staff were helpful and polite. All public areas were of high standard.

Review 65:Having stayed in a fantastic room previously we were v disappointed to be given a small room with tiny bathroom. The room was incredibly and uncomfortably hot, however the rest of the hotel is pleasant so we spent little time in the room.

Review 66:This is a beautifully situated hotel with great food ! friendly, helpful staff

Review 67:i stayed for my friends wedding blessing which was held at The Manor Hotel. The room was clean and decorated with comfort in mind. staff were friendly and helpful. my stay was great and will definitely be returning in near future.

Review 68:Our room was such a let down. Broken blind, moving floorboards in the bathroom. Roller blind as a wardrobe door! We were woke up around 7am with noisy staff and radio below us. In desperate need of attention.

Review 69:The staff were lovely and the views were breathtaking.

Review 70:not very clean toilet in room, stinking toilet brush with poo and paper all over it,not very pleasant.room was ok but could be a much, much nicer place with not many changes.would be worth the extra attention to detail as it could quite easily be a top notch hotel.shame

Review 71:location,view,nice pool area.nice communal areas.food was good in the evening, food was good for breakfast but not the service,we were sat at our breakfast table for an hour and a half.didnt bother us as we only came to relax and chill but some other tables were getting quite annoyed and some had to leave before their breakfasts had arrived.not good enough really considering what people had payed for bed and breakfast

Review 72:Requested a dark room. Lights shone through curtains as they did not cover window and back light left on in service area. Also the door was smaller than the surround. No one answered the telephone 3 calls made and no one available during the night after I searched for one. Advised in the morning that there was no night staff due to short staff. The bathroom was dirty the bin and hair in the bath plug. I asked for a sandwich for a packed lunch, they forgot.

Review 73:The room was OK, but it needs a freshen up around the paint work. Not as nice as cheaper hotels I had stayed in the same week. There was no view at all- I faced onto the building. There were frequent power cuts and drilling throughout each day because of refurbishments downstairs, although every time I called up reception they never really explained why it was happening. You call up for a menu to be brought up to your room for room service but they never brought out it up after the first time I called. An our later I called again an they finally brought it up and there was no apology. The staff were pretty average. When I left they added a huge amount onto my bill and claimed I had ordered drinks and extra food, which when I asked to see a receipt there was none so they deducted it. I think it was a phantom 50.00 they had charged me...

Review 74:Downstairs is very nice Average pool size Jacuzzi is a plus

Review 75:Not a lot although the food could be a little more varied, we prefer 'clean' food .. No sauces, fresh ingredients etc.

Review 76:Nice ambience, warm and cosy in a great location near Crickhowell.

Review 77:The leisure facilities were good except the sauna and Steam room were not working which was a bit disappointing.

Review 78:The location of the hotel is fabulous. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the breakfast very much.

Review 79:Glass bricks in wall of en-suite let light into the bedroom at night. Damaged front door handle provided a poor first impression!

Review 80:Fantastic views from our corner room. Food was excellent both at breakfast and dinner. Helpful friendly staff.

Review 81:In a back room the hot water takes ages to come through and the WiFi barely makes it. I asked for non-feather bedding due to an allergy but the pillows we were given were quite hard and uncomfortable. We have been here quite often and the recent loss of a certain staff member has left its mark.

Review 82:The leisure area is lovely and has nice hot showers and the lounge areas are very relaxing and comfortable.

Review 83:The breakfast service was hysterical with being given sugar lumps on weetabix . Not being offered tea or coffee and when asked for toast one cold piece arrived with no butter.. Dried up bacon . Room was basic , bathroom poor. Headboard fell off the wall unfortunately without my help! . When I complained about breakfast I was told I must have been mistaken ! No apology . Oh and I forgot when I asked for a gin and tonic the bottle flew off the optic nearly hitting me! Poor selection of liqueurs and inexperienced bar staff .

Review 84:Good location .. Good sausages

Review 85:No bedding or water bowl for dog. bed was uncomfortable (two beds pushed together) could feel the gap in-between. Gym was very small and used as a local leisure centre, so there was very busy all the time, didn't have a chance to use it properly.

Review 86:Very good breakfast, clean room, friendly staff, beautiful views, lovely sauna, steam room and pool

Review 87:The room was very hot, had to have the window open all night . The main issue my room was above the kitchen. therefore there was additional noise from the staff etc.

Review 88:The view from the hotel car park off the Hillside is Spectacular in the morning. The food was surprising very good. would recommend - Based on French/British classics cooked well.I tried the local welsh beer and Single malt. Both Excellent. In comparison to the surrounding hotels this stands out by a mile.

Review 89:Overall facilities, bedroom had plant stems growing on wall, reached for dropped jewellery on floor to find under the bed segments of food, crumbs amongst dust which had probably been there a good few months. Bathroom had black mildew and all facilities needed modernising or a thorough clean .lobby & sitting areas had cobwebs which I initially thought could have been prepared for Halloween only to realise they were natural including dead bugs! refurbishment and good clean highly recommend. Had to be called away for family emergency which I can now be thankful for as I didntdidn't have to experience a sleep or breakfast.

Review 90:The setting

Review 91:This hotel is need of major refurbishment! Real let down. As the views and location are stunning. The hotel itself is tired and in need of money to be spent. It's tired looking all over the hotel. The grounds need to be looked after, as could be beautiful. The rooms were tired. Mis-matched furniture everywhere. Curtains on the plastic hooks were coming of when you tried to draw them. Bathrooms need ripping out. Looked grubby! Breakfast was cold on arrival, tiny portions. No orange juice and other juices left. They were not replaced. For the cost of the night of the room for what you get is shocking. I would of rathered stay in a nice b&b in the area, travelodge would of been so much better for half the price. Never any staff on reception when you wanted them. When told the following morning that the shower needed repairing as broke, there was no apology, staff just said "we'll take a look at it". Very disappointed as it could be a lovely hotel.

Review 92:The location and the views were amazing.

Review 93:I called a week before to say we needed to be an hour earlier than booking in time and would need to shower and change and I was told that would be fine. We were very early and asked were we could get breakfast from in the area and they were able to provide breakfast and our rooms for showers. The staff were all so kind, helpful and friendly. This is a beautiful place and I hope I will get an opportunity to go again.

Review 94:The room was a bit dated..probably would have been better to stay in the old part of the hotel. The pool & changing area could do with some modernisation.

Review 95:The breakfast, the bar & lounge. Friendly staff. The views.

Review 96:Having paid for a luxury room, the room was a bit of a disappointment. It was big but décor was old and shabby and looked out of place in the newer part of the hotel - certainly not luxury. Also though the view was great it was right above the bar which meant people outside our window until about 3.30am!

Review 97:Lovely location and great view. Friendly staff, good breakfast. Sure the leisure facilities were great but we didn't use them. The bar and dining areas were lovely.

Review 98:Feather duvets and pillows (allergies!) and the fact there is not a sheet between me and the duvet. I like to be able to turn the duvet down if I get too hot but still have something to cover me.

Review 99:The recently refurbished pool and the really comfortable lounge area's.

Review 100:Breakfast was definitely Fawlty Towers .Staff running around likeheadless chickens. Waited an age to get Tea and toast (25 Mins).Poorselection of continental dishes.Lacked leadership Not a good way tostart your day! And certainly not an experience that would entice you totry the restaurant for Dinner! Interesting to note whilst loadingluggage into the car is that this 4 star hotel has just been awardedJuly 2014 a food standards agency rating of 0 which does speak volumes!A real shame that this lovely old building with great facilities is letdown by poor training and supervision!

Review 101:Room with Four Poster and a view to die for was a superb start to ourovernight stay for a birthday celebration. Used the LeisureFacilities, all very good. Had Dinner in the restaurant which was servedpromptly, almost felt you were on a production line!, Prawn Cocktailnicely presented but used the smallest of cocktail prawns followed bythe risotto which was well cooked with good flavour. A Bottle of Housewine was good value at £16.95. The evening was spoilt as the bar startedemptying, the staff were very keen to close and the shutters were pulleddown at 10.50 pm At about 11pm a lady arrived to get her sandwiches andhad to summon the chef by phone who who came down opened the kitchen andbar enabling us to have a night cap! Took the shine off the experience! No night porterage or receptionist!

Review 102:Booking months in advance for a double room means nothing to this hotel as they will downgrade you to a single without a second thought or even the curtiousy of telling you. Also never go through wedding season if you are looking for a quiet night!

Review 103:Staff, location and food were all very good.

Review 104:Double bed isn't a double its 2 singles pushed together. The bathroom was very dirty. The bedroom felt grubby and old

Review 105:Breakfast was good but only if you are 6 foot tall as the dining area seats are way too low and sag in the middle

Review 106:Post Code on a Tom Tom takes you up a narrow lane that gets narrower as you go further up to a gated farm entrance.

Review 107:Lovely quite location. Nice old maintained building and a good breakfast. Shame didn't have time to use leisure facilities they look very good including the pool.

Review 108:The FACT that I had booked a double room only to find when I got there that I had been put in a twin room.

Review 109:Staff were friendly and the menu despite being limited was of a high standard.

Review 110:Only negative was that the rooms were very warm on a night, but that is not untypical of a lot of hotels. Menu was restricted to grills and a few starters, but the mixed grill and mussels were both excellent.

Review 111:Good sized rooms, very clean and comfortable with excellent view over the Brecon Beacons. Food was excellent despite the fact the menu was limited due to some issues in the kitchen. Really pleasant staff throughout the Hotel.

Review 112:Very friendly staff . Meals are excellent. Queen size bed was very comfortable and the rooms are nice

Review 113:None. All very good

Review 114:All Staff excellent. Very accommodating. Very relaxed aprmosphere. Very efficient. Excellent food. A most enjoyable stay

Review 115:Very helpfull and friendly staff

Review 116:Nothing not to like.

Review 117:The helpfulness and welcome of the staff, the food which was excellent and the lovely surroundings.

Review 118:Extractor fan in bathroom very noisy and bathroom door did not close easily as bottom hinge out of line.

Review 119:The leisure facilities are lovely

Review 120:Room was a little small but perfectly adequate for 1 night

Review 121:Friendly staff, excellent service, good breakfast

Review 122:Staff were excellent and room had just been refurbished. Excellent food

Review 123:Its in a lovely place and nice and romantic

Review 124:Service Decor Cleanin of room

Review 125:WiFi not working in every room ; very small swimming pool.

Review 126:Good Breakfast

Review 127:Only problem is there is no lift.

Review 128:Have stayed here before. Excellent food and love the Leisure facilities. Great o have a swim after a long day :0)

Review 129:Staff. Three young ladies ,very well organized.

Review 130:Wonderful location, friendly and helpful staff and very good food. A very good DBB offer.

Review 131:The pool was cold, however, there was a notice to say the reasons why. the rooms could have done with a revamp.

Review 132:The views were amazing from our room.

Review 133:breakfast poor

Review 134:location and pool facilities excellent

Review 135:No lift

Review 136:Excellent staff really great people
