Reviews for Cameron House on Loch Lomond
Review 1:A greater variety would be appreciated of 'home cooked' plain Scottish meals such as steak pie, mince and tattles and roasts. Found the grill menu a little fanciful and very expensive. To be fair, breakfast was delicious with the chefs willing to accommodate all requests. Thank you.
Review 2:We were very impressed with how accommodating the reception desk were to all our needs on arrival and throughout our stay. Amazing comfortable, opulent rooms designed for complete rest. Loved the boathouse restaurant. Delicious food, great setting. Would be back regularly if we lived in Scotland.
Review 3:Fridge was too noisy to be left on while sleeping, room was quite small for the money we paid, and you wouldn't think the sink would be blocked either. And very noisy from people in room above.
Review 4:Loch view was beautiful, as was dinner and breakfast in Cameron Grill. Staff were lovely.
Review 5:Staff need a lot of training, left waiting to be seated for breakfast for 10 minutes. Wouldn't give us afternoon tea until I had a paper copy of the voucher even though I had paper with voucher numbers on it and showed it from my phone, this took 20 minutes to sort out resulting in my husband having a diabetic hypo from waiting so long. Awful service in the bar area, left before dinner after waiting. Lipstick marks on glasses. No swimming pool in hotel and weren't told prior to booking and no discount.
Review 6:The setting of Cameron house is outstanding with fabulous views. The staff on the yacht trip were outstanding and very helpful.
Review 7:The food was overpriced. Sent our meals back in Boathouse as they were luke warm. There was trout on menu but there was none. Chips tasted like packet frozen chips. Burger in grill room served with mass produced roll, a dod of cheddar and the relish looked as if it had been in the the dish for days. The goose fat chips were superb.
Review 8:The valet service and friendly staff. Comfy beds with good cotton sheets. Off course the views were stunning.
Review 9:The room I booked on booking.com did not match the room that we stayed in. Booking.com made it look like a more upgraded room than it was with the images they used.
Review 10:It's location was good, very nice hotel to stay in.
Review 11:At time of booking it did not declare swim area was out of bounds due to reburbishing & to visit carrick spa was additional cost of £25 pp.
Review 12:Rooms were very comfortable & warm as temperatures dipped to - 2 Steam room & sauna were nice. Food & service @ Cameron house grill were excellent ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Review 13:Food and drink (including soft drinks) extortionate!! You expect to pay more than average at a 5* hotel, however we felt this was ridiculous and although the food was good, we couldn't justify the cost. Nearly £17 for pasta and potion of chips! £9 for cheese sandwich!
Review 14:A beautiful hotel set in gorgeous surroundings. Staff, room, facilities etc brilliant. Will definitely go back.
Review 15:Nothing
Review 16:It was amazing shortholday ,the hotal very beatifule , clean, comfort nice atomsphaer Have alot of activities can be aaranged by them Food is great
Review 17:Hotel was very crowded so service was incredibly slow. We had to complain 3 times regarding lack of attentiveness (i.e. sat down in lounge and waited 20 minutes for somebody to come and ask for our drink orders). However, The Grill manager was fantastic and sorted out EVERYTHING for us!
Review 18:Hotel was stunning inside and in an beautiful location.
Review 19:We had dinner on our second evening in the Cameron Grill and both had dover sole and were ill afterwards. I'm not sure it was as fresh as it should have been. A very minor point is that the Great Scots Bar is a lovely bar with fabulous picture windows, but it's almost impossible to get a seat by the windows. Very often only one or two people are sitting in an area that is designed for more people. It would be better for the seating to be more split up so more people can sit closer to the windows and take in the view.
Review 20:We had our wedding reception here 13 years ago so it always feels special returning. The hotel was beautiful then but has since been refurbished and is now simply stunning. The location is fabulous, close to Glasgow but it feels remote. We upgraded to a suite (which happened to be the same one we had for our wedding reception !) and it was so luxurious. The suite was big enough for its own Christmas tree ! And the views down the loch are amazing. The staff are so friendly and helpful and it feels very genuine. The valets in particular really looked after us, massively helping out when our hire car had a puncture. Martin Wishart's was great, as was the breakfast in the Cameron Grill.
Review 21:Expected a bit more for the money paid . I made a special request and it wasnt made . And no reason as to why . It wasnt much of a request .
Review 22:Was very nice place but bit overpriced .
Review 23:Nothing in particular, had a fantastic three days at the hotel and facilities.
Review 24:Staff were friendly, courteous, efficient and couldn't do enough for you. Ate at the Cameron Grill; excellent food, service and ambience. Pricing could be a little bit more competitive with more modern five star locations, however the views, location and service provided made this worth every penny.
Review 25:We'd read some comments about being overcharged, so we checked our restaurant bill. Low and behold we had been charged for an extra glass of wine that we hadn't had. What really lets this hotel down is the service in the bar and restaurant. We waited a while to be served in the bar, despite only two other people in the bar. When we were served, the first question we were asked was if we had left a credit card at reception. Not a question I have ever been asked at a five star hotel when ordering a drink. We then had to wait 10 minutes for our drinks. The delay was apparently 'due to the computer'. I can only assume that they were checking whether we did in fact have credit before serving our drinks. It's a shame, because the drinks we had were great, and the feel of the bar is amazing. Surely if you can afford to stay in a five star hotel, you can afford a drink! A couple of other small niggles; the jacuzzi was out of order in the leisure area, and the young restaurant staff at breakfast aren't very clued up. We asked the difference between sweet and savoury porridge, but the staff member did not know.
Review 26:Beautiful hotel on the Loch side, the range of restaurants and bars, room was modern and large. Friendly concierge, doormen and reception staff. Great food in the restaurants and at breakfast.
Review 27:Poor service at breakfast. We were sat in a quiet part of the breakfast room and were never asked if we wanted to order from the kitchen. Our cereal plates were not cleared from the table.
Review 28:Breakfast - for an expensive hotel the breakfast was bad. There was no milk or butter available and I had to ask twice before some was brought. The cooked breakfast was self service and therefore things were dry and rubbery. I had expected more from this level of hotel.
Review 29:The room was lovely and the staff were very helpful particularly as we were running late for a wedding they checked us in quickly and found us a free bedroom so we could change.
Review 30:The staff, in particular the bar staff, were rude, inattentive and lacked the 5 star service which it ckaims to provide. The food at Cameron grill was average and again not 5 star quality, my husband's steak was as tough as old boots. The breakfast was not how it is described in the website, I've had better from other 2/3 star hotels.
Review 31:The location was beautiful and peaceful. The room was clean and spacious.
Review 32:Due to a lack of communication between reception and housekeeping, we were given a room which had been cleaned for the previous guests' return and not a new guest.
Review 33:Location, Bar/Restaurant, Standard of accommodation.
Review 34:The meals at the Boothouse and Cameron Grill were fabulous. However, my husband had a steak from the A La Carte menu and for £36 is came with a steak, mushroom and a couple of baby tomoatoes. There was no onion rings or chips, these would have been an addition £4.50 each!! Not the best value for money.
Review 35:Fabulous hotel, with amazing facilities. Had the most wonderful room with an outlook onto Loch Lomond. We went with our 4 year old daughter who just loves the place.
Review 36:Nothing detracted from a fabulous weekend.
Review 37:Front of house staff are second to none - attentive, friendly and make you welcome from the moment you step out of your car. Food is excellent, location is stunning. Truly excellent, highly recommend.
Review 38:Nothing negative about our stay
Review 39:We were there for my good friend natasha archers wedding and found the hotel excellent and staff friendly and helpful even though they were extremely busy. ..bed was very comfortable
Review 40:That we were locked out of our room at 11 a.m. sharp! The staff was pleasant and polite about reauthorizing our key, but we were forced to wait in a long line to do so. If the digital cutoff were even five minutes later, we would have been able to grab our bags and check out easily.
Review 41:Rooms and hotel were beautiful; staff was pleasant.
Review 42:Unfortunately breakfast a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. Buffet style hot breakfast that was lukewarm and stale. My poached eggs were barely warm, even 2nd time round and bacon like leather. Milk and fruit juice lukewarm, not nice to have lukewarm milk in cereal. Always look forward to my breakfast when in hotels. NOT THIS ONE! Poor show, Cameron House!
Review 43:The setting is beautiful and the bar staff very friendly and helpful. The leisure facilities and acceptance of young children first class.
Review 44:From start to finish our stay was perfect. Michelle Docherty made sure all was booked with times to suit for our shooting and evening meal. the room was perfect with a great view over the loch. The Carrick spa was superb, boat house for our meal was superb and breakfast in the l Cameron grill was the best of any hotel I have stayed in, perfect weekend!
Review 45:From the moment we arrived it was disappointing. We arrived on motorbikes as were were touring Scotland. When we parked to take off the luggage we were immediately asked to leave the outside of the hotel. We had no intention of leaving the bikes at the entrance but isn't that where everyone arrives ? None of the 3 porters on duty either spoke to us or offered to help us with luggage. The receptionist was rude and dismissive. We booked a twin room online but they told us it was a double and they blamed the "agency" for the error. The hotel is very tired looking now and the leisure center leaves a lot to be desired. The spa is a bus journey away so that's not great. The breakfast was poor and the staff are nowhere near 4 star standard never mind 5. At over €400 ( £287) for B&B it was far too expensive. The only saving grace for us was the fantastic meal and service we had in The Martin Wishart restaurant. Thank God the hotel has nothing to do with running this little Gem . We won't be back.... unless it's just to use their car park to dine with Martin again.
Review 46:the location and the Martin Wishart restaurant.
Review 47:Nothing that I did not like or enjoy about the hotel
Review 48:Had an amazing stay at the Cameron house, best hotel me and my boyfriend have been to service was outstanding and the small touches by wishing us well and the lovely processco and chocolate in the room due to us celebrating our anniversary was a wonderful thoughtful touch
Review 49:Felt the decor was much too manly & had no warm touches, not a very romantic hotel at all. The entrance building is grand but the back of the building/ where the rooms are was fairly modern & didn't have much character. Pleasant enough but nothing special for the price of it!
Review 50:Rooms were very clean, bed was so comfortable & big!
Review 51:possibly missing the personal touch. My wife and I stay at Cameron house around 4 or 5 times per year. Could be good to recognise regular stayers? And no slippers anymore...
Review 52:Relaxed, friendly environment in a perfect location.
Review 53:Unhappy with room. All windows had been frosted preventing any view of the outside. Room was very noisy due to room above being used by staff to store furniture and room supplies.
Review 54:Friendly, attentive staff
Review 55:I requested a double bed. Upon checking in I was told the room had a double bed. My "double bed" was two singles pushed together.
Review 56:The bar and restaurant were nice. The food was good. The staff in the bar and restaurant were excellent.
Review 57:Only thing i would criticise...At check-out one member of staff tried to charge us again for dinner we had the night before in the cameron grill and add it to our room bill when we had already paid. Luckily enough we had the dinner bill at hand to prove it.
Review 58:Room was beautiful and cosy with a lovely view over loch, staff friendly and helpful, food was brilliant.
Review 59:The grill room seemed worn , tables appeared filthy ingrained . It seemed mismatched to rest of Hotel , it was wonderful but if this room was updated it would be superb , . Breakfast poor , bacon tough dry , poached eggs held in large water basin not done to order again a mismatch to rest of hotel . Plates slow to be cleared in between had to do so myself .
Review 60:Location and staff superb especially staff who greet you
Review 61:the staff in the bar do not clean the tables when previous guests have departed and when asked to do so adopt a surly attitude. they need to provide snacks for small children..all it would take is an ice cream freezer like haagen das etc.
Review 62:facilities and location are excellent.room and bed were very comfortable.wi-fi and tv worked well and were easy to use.
Review 63:Large conference took over most of the public spaces and facilities which spoiled our stay as we were not made aware of this prior to booking.
Review 64:Great location on the Loch and facilities are good too.
Review 65:Just a gripe as with all 5* hotels, a little expensive but a special occasion for my girlfriends birthday
Review 66:Clean, friendly hotel situated in quiet leafy area with beautiful views and walks. Food great
Review 67:Nothing!
Review 68:Fabulous location and 5 star rating did not disappoint. The Carrick spa was just wonderful and again 5 star facilities. Thank you for a fabulous overnight. shirley Coll
Review 69:We arrived Saturday the 17th for an overnight stay DBB. Have no complaints re room or dinner. Bar was under staffed & took 30 minutes to get a drink. Sunday breakfast was deplorable, waited 30 mins in queue to be told to take a seat in bar & would be called through, other guests were taken before us after complaing we were taken total wait 1 hour. Table was dirty waited 20 mins for coffee & toast with dirty teapot ,help yourself breakfast, when we asked for the manager teenage staff did not know his name & we are still waitng to see him. A cost of £35 is charged for breakfast.....what an unacceptable experience.
Review 70:Location is superb! Excellent hotel - great hospitality from the staff. The restaurants, bars and leisure facilities were all to a very high standard.
Review 71:Unfortunately although the location and surroundings are stunning, I still feel the pricing of the rooms are over priced.
Review 72:The staff were very polite and helpful, the location was absolutely stunning and couldn't fault any of the meals as the food was fantastic.
Review 73:Main restaurant tables are very close together and not the place for a private conversation
Review 74:Beautiful location, excellent facilities, comfortable bed and pillows. Fantastic breakfast and service from knowledgeable and helpful staff.
Review 75:It was unfortunate that the main lift was not working, However reception staff did their best to find a twin bedded room that was accessible to us. it was quite a walk to get to the room but we were very pleased with it when we reached it. The facilities were excellent.
Review 76:The desire to please on the part of all staff was impressive. As two elderly ladies with mobility limitations the consideration shown by all staff members was most rewarding. The valet parking was a real bonus. As a special treat the afternoon tea was splendid.
Review 77:Only one thing we would change and its the check out time, 12pm would be so much better, not a complaint just something we would prefer
Review 78:Love Cameron house each time we visit never fails to disappoint! All facilities are perfect , Cameron grill is our favourite place to eat outshines anywhere else! The decor is perfect.
Review 79:Starbucks coffee only available in room, why Starbucks? Slippy entrance and route to swimming pool, not good for people with any walking difficulties . This is same problem as from 4years ago.
Review 80:Lovely spacious room, excellent food and drink, courteous staff.
Review 81:The understated luxury and comfortable elegance were delightful and made this the perfect break for us. In terms of short, on-a-whim breaks Cameron House set the gold standard
Review 82:Didn't have the wow factor of a 5*. Especially at the prices theyare charging for a room. Receptionist made us feel like she didn'thave time for us. Quick to check us in. Food menu options were eithervery posh, or what I would call pub grub. Nothing in the middle. Shamethey covered the fillet stack I ordered in a jus as it is nice to tastethe meat. My partner was also convinced that the lobster was frozen :-\After speaking to some friends that go regularly they have said it hasgone down hill since been taken over by a new company. Perhaps they arejust having teathing problems. Real shame as it was a special treat formy partners 30th. Not as good as the Auchrannie or Douglas in Arran andthey aren't even 5* hotels.
Review 83:Location and revolving front door.
Review 84:Only de-merit was in the hotel bar - asked by a busy barman to take a seat but nobody came to take my drinks order and in the end I returned to my room.
Review 85:I found the hotel interior decoration attractive (albeit a bit dark!), rooms were large and luxuriously appointed, all staff were friendly and the hotel grounds a pleasure to walk in. Had an excellent 40 min flight on the seaplane which harbours just a few yards away and also visited the Boathouse restaurant and Duck Bay Marina, both nearby.
Review 86:Booking.com have misrepresented the facilities available at this hotel.I spent more than my budget and booked this hotel because of the'infinity pool overlooking the loch'. The infinity pool isactually part of the spa which is 3km north of the hotel and incursit's own considerable cost. I think the price of the room was toohigh, I wouldn't pay this price again for it.
Review 87:Beautiful location, very friendly staff, good dining facilities and bar, lovely pool and gym, great breakfast
Review 88:The Cameron Grill dining room. We found it to be far too noisy, with an overall atmosphere more akin to a canteen than a fine dining room
Review 89:The location is great!
Review 90:Checking in was a nightmare, sat for hours in the lobby waiting for our room which wasn't ready for more than an hour after check in.
Review 91:Great location Plenty of luxury
Review 92:The experience was not a 5 star experience as expected and the room rate was not value for money. There was pubic hair on the coffee table, stains on the bedside table, holes in the bed sheets. The room service was terrible, as our drinks did not arrive. We ordered a morning paper and it did not arrive. The hotel facilities were tired looking, scratched and damaged doors, dirty carpets at the hotel entrance and damaged furniture in the bar.
Review 93:Staff were generally friendly, and Martin Wishart Restaurant was superb.
Review 94:Room service wasn't as good as it could have been. Menus are wrong in the room and some quality of room service food was very poor. However staff tried to rectify this and overall this is still a great hotel
Review 95:Location, activities and rooms were great. It's like a resort with the amount of things you can do.
Review 96:Slippery bathtub. Be careful! Scrambled eggs at breakfast were a disappointment. Really have to dig deep for any negatives for this wonderful property.
Review 97:EVERYTHING! The nearby, associated spa was heaven on earth for a very reasonable fee. In-room breakfast included - marvelous! Great food. Large, comfortable bed.
Review 98:Our room was incredible! We even had a bathtub in our room! (a really beautiful one). The room was really clean and the balcony had a view to the lake and the entrance of the hotel and indeed it is something to remember. The hotel has great facilities (there is even a seaplane that you can use) and the surroundings are really well taken care of. It is really a GREAT hotel. Everything you need, everything you want is there. Breakfast was fantastic!
Review 99:The parking is not well signposted, and the car parks are quite far away from the entrance. This is especially problematic for older and disabled guests with luggage etc. Best idea is to drive up to the entrance and use valet parking service which I will do next time!
Review 100:We found the staff helpful, the room and hotel luxurious and the food at Martin Wisharts exquisite! The Seaplane tour over the Trossachs and Loch Lomand was fantastic
Review 101:Little opportunity to use the Loch, for non-golfers the Claret Jug is a little far away, but transport was good. Generally highly priced.
Review 102:Friendly and informative staff, great fitness facilities, great views, wonderful building and decoration. The Claret jug provides excellent food.
Review 103:Not enough staff: 1) Reception area very small and slow. Had to wait several minutes in a queue to check in and check out Breakfast area under-staffed - had to wait several minutes again in a queue to be seated
Review 104:Location. Restaurants. Bar - great room. Good view from bedroom (#35) and good size.
Review 105:The noise from wedding guests. It would have been good to be made aware as we wouldn't have booked. Noise at 5 am wasn't good
Review 106:Location and facilities were good
Review 107:Perhaps a 'little dark' as far a lighting is concerned. In the reception, restaurant and our room alike.
Review 108:Friendly staff, comfortable rooms, great facilities & excellent location / gardens.
Review 109:The spa is actually some distance from the main hotel which I didn't realise when booking
Review 110:Lovely rooms, great location, good choice of restaurants, nice breakfast. Great bar
Review 111:This is no longer a 5 star experience. Our "loch view" room was non existent due to a huge tree blocking the view. Our substitute room was not much better as the tower blocked most of the view and we could see in to what appeared to be staff accommodation. When we checked in at 4PM there were still dirty plates and bed linen cluttering the corridors. Floor of the lift was the filthiest carpet I've ever seen!! Breakfast was a disaster as "cooked to order" poached eggs came out of a luke warm swamp. QHotels have put this and their other hotels on the market and it shows as nothing seems to be spent on the hotel or staff training!!!
Review 112:Concierge was excellent and location is good but........
Review 113:I felt that the overall condition of Cameron House was ok but i is need of a much needed face lift iside as it all looked a little worn and tired.
Review 114:All was very nice. The location and the scenery.
Review 115:Free wi-fi was patchy. Hotel is very dark - not a criticism for me but some may not like it.
Review 116:Excellent setting. Excellent staff. Superb food especially the breakfast choices available. Well stocked bar. Lovely and peaceful once the loch users have packed up. Spa excellent too, but not cheap. Most importantly - the swimming pool has a water slide!
Review 117:Absolutely nothing to complain about, go and enjoy.
Review 118:From arrival to check out the staff were most courteous nothing was too much trouble. Restaurant and bar prices were as expected for a 5* venue. Room was large, clean and well equipped
Review 119:Clarret Jug resturant at the golf course was not of the same standard. Staff could have done with more training and smartening up. Somewhat let the side down after the splendour of the main house
Review 120:Very accomodating, excellent staff, generous portions and good quality food Very relaxed but luxury venue
Review 121:We liked everything... Staff, room, food, location, everything was so perfect, on arrival we decided to find our own way to our room, the hotel is huge and a maze of corridors, after getting lost, we asked one of the house maids for help, she was lovely, she took us to our room and even grabbed one of our cases. Another beautiful touch was we were given a room with a view of the loch and left fresh fruit, hand made chocolates and a bottle of bubbly with a little card congratulating us on our 25th wedding anniversary. Staff smiled when you walked passed them and said hello, good morning etc, we didn't see one grumpy face. Thank you to the staff at Cameron House for making our stay so perfect...
Review 122:The hotel is dark and dreary, and the restaurant and bar areas are grubby. The food and drink is overpriced as is the accommodation. A glorified 3 star, certainly not a 5 star!
Review 123:holes in bedsheets, dusting not done well, bathroom too hot ,bathrobes not in room and a cheeky charge for playing the small crazy golf game!! should be free!! the temperature of the water in the hotel swimming pool was far too high
Review 124:lovely room, wonderful breakfasts, the carrick spa was fantastic! lunch at the claret jug very good. boathouse and great scots bar also lovely. a super short break with lots to do in beautiful surroundings
Review 125:Avery bad experience in both restaurants. In the boat rest. served fish with bones in it and the other meal had over cooked fish and raw chips. An influx of American in a bus party meant that the grill rest was very disappointing. The food in the evening was served on luke warm plates and the food got cold before it could be eaten At breakfast the Americans had almost cleaned the buffet and the staff had not replenished it. Was treated as a part of the group and given thick mugs for coffee and coffee out of a perculator. On pointing out we were not with the bus party we were given proper cups and saucers with a pot of coffee. The staff could not cope with the influx of the bus party and this was big black mark with staff very off hand to our complaint.
Review 126:The comfort of the room and clean appearance of the hotel
Review 127:Staff in Cameron Grill were slow, forgetful and provided poor service at breakfast and dinner.
Review 128:Great location and great property. Boathouse was particularly good.
Review 129:It doesn't rate its five stars on any level apart from its location. Overall the place is quite tired and lack lustre.
Review 130:Great location, with good facilities and had a fab holiday there.
Review 131:In room breakfast was not entirelythe best. Cool weak coffee and tough croissants.
Review 132:Wonderful treatment by staff. We were surprised by a second upgrade after accepting a standby. Also surprised to receive an ice bucket with Prosecco in our room. Then I suppose that as this was a Golden Wedding celebration we deserved it
Review 133:Yes there can be a queue for breakfast but it is soooo worth it!!!!!! Think the Carrick spa should be free to go to for residents not a charge as this is advertised as being one of the Facitlities here and it is not really!
Review 134:Everything
Review 135:The Cameron Grill, the main restaurant, is very poor for a five star hotel. Just skip it. Martin Wishart is a phenomenal fine dining experience, while room service is better than the grill.
Review 136:Fantastic location and the hotel itself was lovely.
Review 137:It's a shame the spa wasn't on the same site and staff weren't as attentive as we would have liked. Although I'd mentioned it when booking, nothing special was arranged for my partner's 30th.
Review 138:Beautiful hotel inside and out, amazing large, comfy bed and gorgeous food.
Review 139:General standard of service has dropped considerably since I last visited Cameron House. The hotel was previously ran by the DeVere group but since being taken over by Q Hotels there has been a marked decline in staff efficiency, service and attention to detail. Very disappointed
Review 140:Location is beautiful and hotel very warm and comfortable
Review 141:I was here with a group of 30 for a wedding. A lot of us got massages at the adjacent spa. None of us were happy with our massages. I paid for a deep tissue and when I talked to the manager of the spa she said deep muscle and deep tissue were not the same. I beg to differ but didn't want to be too rude. But my gal that massaged me just rubbed me raw... that's in a massage
Review 142:The heated floor in bathroom. The gingerbread fresh toast and a great breakfast. The views, the large windows, the comfortable beds, and the quiet in each room.
The Fine Print
