Reviews for Les Remparts
Review 1:Narrow dangerous stairs leading to bedroom. Cramps impractical bathroom. Inconsistent water temperature. Only a couple of sheets of loo roll and ran out in the middle of the night.
Review 2:Location
Review 3:A bit tired - carpets need changing. Bed didn't fit very well between bedside shelves and Johnny rolled over and as bed quite small fell out and cut his eye on the shelve - so not a great night for him. Also stairs very steep so not suitable for people who aren't very agile.
Review 4:Fantastic location. Basic hotel but had everything we needed for our stay. Staff were great. No lift but only a small set of stairs. Mind your head on the stairs though. Would stay here again.
Review 5:Our room was on second floor with a great opening window and lovely views across the fields around Montreux. Very well placed to get to the show 'Les Mis', but walking along citadel walls. Parking and Wifi very good.
Review 6:rooms vary in size and the facilities and how they fit in the rooms which then give limited space. low water pressure limited menu
Review 7:All was fine and would use again location good food
Review 8:Didn't like discovering an email mid long drive when on a break that said we had to be there by 6pm or they wouldn't be there. Rang and call was difficult due to lack of common language. We were 5 mins late & had to sacrifice much of our sightseeing plans to make it on top. Disappointed that we weren't told earlier. On the day is a bit much. Stairway access was difficult for tall people. Watch your head!
Review 9:The best part was that having cancelled our first of two nights due to illness, we expected to pay as it wasn't their fault we cancelled with little notice. They didn't charge us as they realised that asking us to be there by 6pm was a big ask.
Review 10:Very loud traffic noise. Very steep narrow stairs, toilet was actually in a "cupboard" separate from the tiny bathroom.
Review 11:Pleasant management, clean room.
Review 12:Very steep stairs, no private car parking, no child cot.
Review 13:In the centre close to shops, restaurant, Saturday market etc. Best option we've found so far in Montreuil, our favourite stop-over en route home to UK.
Review 14:Very steep stairs up to rooms, our en-suite was the smallest ever, evening meal was quite expensive and nothing special and I agree with previous comments that it is a restaurant with rooms above.
Review 15:Breakfast was very good
Review 16:Staff were ambivalent, at best. One evening we came back to the hotel just after 11pm and despite the fact that there were about 8 people still at the bar, we were told very abruptly "No, ferme!" when we asked about having drinks or coffee before going to bed. From the noise we gather the people at the bar remained for at least another hour, so this felt very unwelcoming to us. The first floor had a strong smell of drains most of the time and our friends had to keep their window open all day to dissipate the smell in their room. Overall, it felt like Les Remparts was just a restaurant with a few rooms upstairs, rather than a proper hotel. There was no reception area or sense that anyone working there cared if we were ok or not! The restaurant looked nice but we did not eat breakfast or dinner there as we felt other places were more deserving of our money. For example, Les Hauts de Montreuil down the road gave us breakfast both mornings and a very friendly welcome, even though we weren't staying there and hadn't booked.
Review 17:- The hotel was right in the centre. - The decor in the rooms was nice (apart from the paper thin carpet). - Our shower had some sort of space-age jacuzzi jets in it, which was quite fun.
Review 18:The food was tasteless and overcooked we couldn't even eat the dessert and the manager was totally arrogant would not accept anything was wrong. The bedroom was noisy with children running around and shouting at 6am. The shower was dirty with black mould.
Review 19:leaving
Review 20:The steep stairs could be a problem ,especially if on the top floor.
Review 21:Excellent food , worth a visit even if not staying.Ideal stop if travelling on further.
Review 22:The lack of Wi-Fi and breakfast is disappointing. The pillows were little more than sofa cushions. The walls were paper thin meaning a lack of privacy.
Review 23:The hotel was very well placed and within walking distance of everything Montreuil had to offer.
Review 24:The Hotel is lovely, the Restaurant in particular. The food was very good and the service excellent. The only quibble was the size of the en suite facilities, very small. Would stay again and would recommend it.
Review 25:En-suite facilities were poor. Shower Room small and room with toilet in was not acceptable in this day and age
Review 26:Staff were very willing to help and approachable. Food good,
Review 27:Needs more hooks to put towels and coats on. Some things did not work property like lamps and broken shelf in bathroom. It DID have plenty of hot water though, that's the main thing.
Review 28:Good location central in the town. Friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast. Clean and tidy.
Review 29:Two flights of uneven stairs to bedroom. Restaurant was closed but we were not informed. The ability to get a tea or coffee was needed after a long drive but we were just given a key , pointed in the direction of our room, and told to leave the key in the door when we left.
Review 30:Only slight downside was the exceptionally small bathroom. But the shower was good.
Review 31:The restaurant was great with lovely food. Room was comfortable and clean, staff friendly and attentive.
Review 32:The rather cramped ensuite facilities.
Review 33:Staff were accommodating, even though we a) arrived a bit late and b) overslept in the morning! Restaurant was charming and the food typically French and well presented and cooked. Wonderful location, between the market and the old town ramparts.
Review 34:We stayed in room 5 on the second floor. Had one of the worst sleep ever in a hotel. Someone upstairs kept moving thoughout the night, so the floorboards kept creaking and keeping us awake.
Review 35:Convenient distance from Calais. Building itself was nice. Food at the restaurant was ok.
Review 36:beds were a little on the hard side rooms were not as warm as would have liked but very sure if we had pointed this out would have been addressed
Review 37:staff could not be more helpful location for town excellent food very good
Review 38:Very little to criticise about the the hotel, especially given competitive pricing and great location. There isn't dedicated parking, but you can easily park in the square nearby. Some might find the stairs to the room a little steep and difficult to navigate.
Review 39:Very well appointed rooms with great bathroom. Clear the ownership pays attention to providing a high quality experience. Breakfast superb, with a lot more than the cliched continental breakfast croissant.
Review 40:Clean rooms, comfortable bed, and a fabulous restaurant with a great menu. Great location to stay 40 minutes from Calais, lovely village with plenty of bars, places to eat and shopping as well as short walks around the old city ramparts and river
Review 41:Wifi advertised when booking, but receptionist said there was none. Eventually, we found there was wifi but the code was around 20 digits and barely legible on the paper given. We never managed to connect, but maybe signal was also poor in our room three floors up. No hair dryer in rooms. Staircase fine for us but I guess not great for older people.
Review 42:Location excellent Restaurant very good Rooms clean and comfortable Helpful young management Nice building.
Review 43:Very steep staircases, and only suitable for the fittest (but hotel staff did carry our case up and down!) Plumbing noises in the night!
Review 44:Friendliness and helpfulness of staff. Position in town. Breakfast very "nouvelle cuisine", but after a couple of days would be insubstantial (and quite pricey)
Review 45:The springs in the pull out bed's mattress were so visible it was virtually unusable; the hooks in the bathroom fell off the wall as soon as you hung something on them; the toilet light came on and off intermittently. The toilet was in it's own 'cupboard' with no basin; the shower was in another 'cupboard' with none of it's jets working and no light. Hardly an en suite!
Review 46:This hotel looked fabulous from the outside with beautiful window boxes and the location, just off the main square, was great.
Review 47:Booking form showed 1600 hours check in,hotel was closed until 1800 hours.Understood that the beds were 2 singles and a double, but one bed was a pull out bed which made the room too cramped, did not use.Poor toilet facilities, unventilated cupboard in the ROOM.Only 1 other toilet in the hotel, in restaurant, which closed when restaurant closed. This would not be allowed in the UK
Review 48:Good restaurant.
Review 49:A friendlier welcome would have helped. Two pillows each: why do the French have such useless pillows?
Review 50:Proximity to everything.
Review 51:The bedroom had a separate toilet and bathroom, the toilet area was incredibly small and cramped.
Review 52:Good value for money
Review 53:Friendly staff
Review 54:Toilet stank of drains
Review 55:Location was amazing and very nice view from window right on the walls
Review 56:Everything
Review 57:Nothing
Review 58:Room was small , toilet was in a cupboard , shower was built by an inexperienced diy' er!
Review 59:Location. Bar area.
Review 60:Carpets had seen better days
Review 61:Food in restaurant was very good, particularly the salad, which was lovely.
Review 62:Not a very friendly reception. The stairs to the rooms were grim and one room looked onto something like an air conditioning unit
Review 63:lovely little hotel. convenient for overnight stop.
Review 64:Only the Pillows you only get One but thats personnel
Review 65:Great food Good staff lovely Town
Review 66:Excellent value, spotlessly clean and a fantastic restaurant for dinner.
Review 67:Steep stairs to rooms. No room for clothes storage in room.
Review 68:Very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 69:A great little hotel, perfectly located.Friendly staff and an excellent breakfast.
Review 70:extra pillows would be nice
Review 71:food , cleanliness, friendly owners
Review 72:We booked a room for 3 people and ended up with a double and a single !
Review 73:location
Review 74:The room was very pleasant and comfortably appointed. The restaurant was smashing and the food was very special. Great chef!
Review 75:The hotel and staff were superb. Food exceptional and will certainly return. If you want a nice small hotel look no further.
Review 76:We enjoyed excellent service and the food was delicious, both the dinner and breakfast!
Review 77:no hair dyer in the room
Review 78:location, staff, food
Review 79:Large bathroom but no bath, only a shower that did not work very well
Review 80:Nice friendly hotel
Review 81:creaky floorboards, but then it is an old building
Review 82:clean and tidy and better than expected for the price and star rating
Review 83:Bedrooms
Review 84:Food & Staff
Review 85:Room 1 on the first floor was rather small and situated at the back of the property
Review 86:Great location and good breakfast
Review 87:Quaint rooms & Excellent breakfast Superb welcome and help on for the frestaurant arrival as it was a closing day. Great value as a stop over en route
Review 88:Only negatives were very small toilet (knees hit door). Shower head inconveniently placed and leaked. Couldn't shut door from inside shower cubicle.
Review 89:Food excellent. Service very good. Bed comfortable and room good.
Review 90:Very steep and narrow stairs and a tiny shower room.
Review 91:The food in the restaurant was excellent and the position on the pretty town square was very good.
Review 92:No hanging or drawers in the bedroom and we were in room 4 which over looked a neighbours terrace ( 10 foot away ) which wasn't ideal as the bedroom had a large clear glass window.
Review 93:The restaurant food was fantastic we ate there for supper and breakfast and lunch the next day as it was so good.
Review 94:Staff not v friendly - tried to speak the French language but if we didn't get it spot on they made out they couldn't understand us . They didn't seem to like the fact that we ate elsewhere and so when we returned for a nightcap they made it v difficult for us. The walls were paper thin and we could hear everything (yes everything) going on next door and in every other room as well - would not recommend
Review 95:Lovely room with beautiful bathroom. great location and food served at the hotel restuarant was very good. Breakfast was lovely and very well presented, but would have perhaps liked some cheese and meats too.
Review 96:Poor bar opening times but we were in the early part of the week & there were alternatives nearby, may be better over w/end (but that is fairly typical of small French hotels) No extractor in toilet.
Review 97:Location. Breakfast room & restaurent area.
Review 98:Noisy room overlooking the square. No Wi fi. Uncomfortable bed. Smallest loo in the world.
Review 99:The staff were very friendly. A very good breakfast was served.
Review 100:Unfortunately, the room we had on the way back was not as good: very small, poor shower, smelly, and toilet in such a small space you had to open the door in order to sit down, and it was only about 1 metre from the bed! Room was also v noisy- disappointing after the first night.
Review 101:Stayed twice on way out and way back from holiday. On the way out we had a perfectly adequate room with a comfortable bed, good shower etc. Staff v friendly, nice food, lovely town, v convenient for Calais/Boulogne ferries
Review 102:The room was strangely appointed with a bedside table behind the headboard of the bed! My 6 ft 3ins partner found the separate loo too small. The 3 way shower was interesting but needed some limescale remover to work properly! We had to ask for service in the morning even though we had pre-paid for breakfast,
Review 103:The food. We arrived late and did not think the brasserie menu looked that appealing. However we were delighted with our choices. The breakfast was also very good.
Review 104:There wasn't an elevator and with little children you have a lot of luggage, so that wasn't easy. The beds weren't straight and the bathroom was very little. It wasn't worth his money.
Review 105:The breakfast
Review 106:terrible room[no.3] lavatory tiny it would have been impossible to use it bed hard and oddly placed in room poor lighting very bad value for money compared with other hotels i would be doubtful to book with you again
Review 107:central location new owner very pleasant
Review 108:Great hotel near to some fantastic restaurants. Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Bar offered a good selection of whiskey, wines and beers.
Review 109:the stairs but staff again were so helpful and brought our bags upstairs
Review 110:staff were so helpful breakfast was delicious and excellent value for money Location
Review 111:Bedroom cramped and badly designed - bed crammed against the wall so that one person had to climb in over another - loo and shower so tiny you had to use them with the doors open. They think that because they can get all the furniture in that people can actually use the facilities.
Review 112:Friendly and helpful staff and a good restaurant which gave us a very good dinner and breakfast
Review 113:The shower room was so cramped that the door had to be open, otherwise the shower cubicle door could not be easily opened. The toilet room was also far to small for comfort.
Review 114:The owner had only taken over the hotel that week, Breakfast was superb.
Review 115:No lift and stairs were very steep and narrow, we struggled with the luggage.
Review 116:Next to the square so restaurants nearby. Had a lovely breakfast in the hotel and the hotelier's young son was very attentive ensuring my coffee cup was full.
Review 117:We feel we should have been notified prior that the hotel experienced change of ownership the night before our arrival!! Bedroom was dirty, carpet had not been hoovered and was badly stained. Duvet cover was touching the floor! Toilet smelt and is within the room so you cannot avoid this! Room extremely small. Staff did not speak good English. Hugely disappointed.
Review 118:Location of hotel is good. Dining area looks attractive. Shower Unit once you master it is good.
Review 119:Les Remparts is a French hotel catering mainly for French clients so the breakfast is authentic French and if that is not what you like, go stay at the Hermitage.Personally Liked the French experience.that's why we go to France.
Review 120:Montreuil sur Mer is a great place to spend one or two nights stopover en route to channel ports. The town has a lot of history , plenty of sightseeing including a walk round the town ramparts with breathtaking views of countryside and some great restaurants.
Review 121:The staff were excellent and really helpful. We were with a young baby And they made it very easy. The only downside is the stairs are steep with low ceilings, so not easy to navigate with luggage or holding a baby.
Review 122:Excellent evening meal in an intimate setting with echoes of Victor Hugo's Les Miserables in 19th C prints around the walls. Old building by the Ramparts, steep narrow stairs to tastefully decorated rooms but a bit cramped. Would certainly return.
Review 123:The room was too small and compared poorly with the English Premier Inns for instance. We paid more than it was worth.
Review 124:room was very poor and breakfast not value for money
Review 125:The steps to the room were very steep.
Review 126:Everyone was very friendly and the food was excellent. Great location. We expect to come back
Review 127:The stairs in the hotel would be very dangerous for children or old people !
Review 128:The staff and location and breakfast were very good
