Reviews for Chester Lodge

Review 1:The size of room and the bathroom.

Review 2:The location and the way attending staff helped us in explaining the things to do and facilities available. Also breakfast was excellent.

Review 3:The owners bent over backwards for myself allowing a late check in and they even went the further mile for a group that were stranded due to ferry problems who estimated their actual arrival time to be around 3am. My only dissappointment was that I missed out on breakfast because I had a very early checkout time (far to early to be able to expect a breakfast) and from the standard of the hotel I'm sure the breakfast would have been amazing.

Review 4:Brian and his staff were all very polite & helpful, everything was spotless clean, very close to the beach and the shops, off street parking was always available. Couldn't fault it and will definitely be returning!!

Review 5:What's not to like?

Review 6:We like the traditional comfortable feel of this guest house. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. A very relaxed place to stay. Excellent facilitates and good parking available.

Review 7:Not a huge issue for us but Alex Polizzi would doubtless make mention of cobwebs on window openers and lack of mattress/ pillow protectors. Shower occasionally hit and miss.Nothing serious enough to complain about.

Review 8:Warm welcome from Brian, helpful staff. Good location, room decoration coordinated, more than adequate breakfast, parking a big plus. Only disturbed once by a late-returning guest. Easy stroll to beach, shops, leisure centre etc.

Review 9:The staff were more than polite and helpful, with local knowledge being at their fingertips. The rooms were always very clean and comfy. The breakfast are huge and the children loved the diversity of them. We couldn't have been happier

Review 10:The only thing that sadly left a bad impression was,... just as we were about to leave with our 3 young children to head off home, my sons aged 4 & 5 needed the toilet (as kids do). I rang the doorbell about 3 times and kindly asked if they could use the downstairs loo quickly one last time only to hear a very angry Mrs owner huffing and puffing at what a nuisance I was. I hadn't met her during my stay at all, let alone seen her but I was pretty sure she was the managers Mrs. She answered the door in an even more angry manor but with 2 kids in need of the bathroom I bit my lip and hurried on thinking I wasn't asking the earth and we had just stayed there a week. We left feeling a bit disappointed as we were made to feel so welcome on arrival, but once the key was handed over, we felt ushered out and it was well, game over. I felt sad that she was so rude to us on departure, but glad that we hadn't seen her during our stay as 'customer service' wasn't her strong point.

Review 11:Our bedroom was great, lots of space with a travel cot all set up and ready for our baby. We even had a selection of 6 baby blankets! the manager showed us everything on arrival and made us all feel v welcome. The breakfast is brilliant and the staff are so helpful. Our rooms were cleaned on arrival back from the beach each day.

Review 12:Little bit dated in places but very comfortable.

Review 13:Hotel Went out of their way to accommodate us, as there was a mess up on booking room was too small for booking , fault not with them but with company we booked with but hotel managed to squeeze us in and were very helpful.

Review 14:There needs to be a no noise policy after midnight. The room next to us were making noise past 3:30 am. It wrecked my day and those of the 2 other adjacent rooms. The owner made them leave the next morning - to his credit. Quality of the sausage could be better. Shower is leathally hot. Very odd instructions to operate it.

Review 15:Price. Friendliness of staff.

Review 16:Bad poorly maintained rooms. The family room we stayed in smelt of damp. Switches duck taped together. Worn out poorly fitted carpets. More DIY disasters in the old dated toilet/shower room. Patched up tiles, vinyl flooring and shabby shower cubicle. Poor quality full English breakfast. Cheap sausages, canned tomatoes and horrible coffee.

Review 17:Friendly owner. Provided all relevant information pertaining to the lodge.

Review 18:The closeness of the beach and High Street. The location was very quiet. Plenty of parking facilities. There was a large choice of breakfast. They catered for my children's specific requests. The old building had lots of character e.g - wonky floors, huge stairs, stain glassed windows, etc.

Review 19:Friendly management and staff, superb location with easy access to major roads, shops and beach. Lovely, well cooked and presented breakfast. Well appointed family suite - everyone had their own bed. Delightfully converted substantial Victorian house which still has a cosy family feel to it and lots of history.

Review 20:Experience okay, late booking. Wash basin in bedroom, no towel rail. Carpet tired. Breakfast, grapefruit segments may not suit every visitor.

Review 21:Friendly manager.

Review 22:Though our bedding was clean, which is essential. I have to be honest and say that our room in our opinion is in need of some attention ie paintwork, flooring throughout as carpet was very old and with holes in and marks that look non removeable, and it was not clean. Also new floor in Bathroom would make a big difference. Generally the skirtings, framework and certain fixtures and fittings need replacing, updating, modernising.

Review 23:The Manager was so accommodating, no request was too much. He was so friendly and helpful and welcoming. The whole family were so impressed with his willingness to help us in whatever way he could, and always with a friendly smile.

Review 24:One of the rooms smelt very strongly of feces. The shower drain was blocked. There were no blinds on the window in the bathroom. Latest check in was 8pm so I spent the first night sleeping in the car. Would never go back.

Review 25:Felt very relaxed and felt that nothing was too much bother. Brian and his team made us very welcome. He spent time talking to us and was very helpful with information and directions around the island. Thank you for a warm and friendly stay. Very much value for money.

Review 26:Breakfast was same thing each day, especially grapefruit segments so if staying more than couple of days got a bit boring. Room 4 we were in was quite dated & had a leak from the hot tap on to the floor that had clearly been there a while! There was no safety mat in the shower & wasted a lot of water to sink tap to run hot water through for shower.

Review 27:Friendly staff & owner Brian was very approachable. Good selection of cereals available daily, comfortable beds but no linen change in the 5 nights we were there.

Review 28:The room was clean but I did think it needed new carpets. Otherwise our time there was very good.

Review 29:Everything was good, it was very good value for money. Walking distance to beach and shops. Staff was very friendly.

Review 30:No negative feedback.

Review 31:The location was ideal. Near bus stops and the High Street. Also good location for the beach. The owners were friendly and welcoming and the hotel had plenty of brochures for things to do.

Review 32:The room is not clean and quite pokey. Old-dated decoration. The water of shower is not hot enough.

Review 33:The host is very hospitable and give me many useful information. The price is cheap so can't complain too much.

Review 34:Cooked breakfast was not great. Cheap ingredients. There was a very loud hum from the fridge in the communal lounge/bar

Review 35:Helpful and friendly staff Good location, easy parking

Review 36:Furnitures are quite old but it's good for people who likes antiques.

Review 37:The owner was very accommodating and very helpful in providing informations about different attractions. The hotel is very convenient to the high street and the seaside.

Review 38:The B&B is really dated, very old-fashioned . Breakfast options are Full English or cereals. Nothing healthy (yoghurt, nuts, fruit?) The room was very small, damp (impossible to dry the towels) and on the groundfloor/ basement with only one tiny window. Felt very claustrophobic.

Review 39:Very friendly and attentive staff. Convenient location. Bed was comfy.

Review 40:Bunk beds were very uncomfortable, breakfasts a little small..

Review 41:Location is excellent... owners very welcoming and polite.. nothing is too much trouble.

Review 42:Maybe in the kitchen services ... the staff serving the hot meal should ask the guests if breakfast is ok....

Review 43:Quiet and not noisy... very good facilities. Good staff services.

Review 44:Little care has been taken to make the lodge 'hospitable'. It is hard to make a traditional English breakfast go bad, but they have done it. Our 'sea view' room indeed had a view of a blue streak of sea beyond all other buildings.

Review 45:Only the mattress I felt the springs beneath me. I did tell them after I left and they thanked me and are to replace the mattress immediately.

Review 46:Good location close to well lit and safe cliff walks where I walked to Shanklin. 5 mins from shops and bus stop.

Review 47:The wifi is very poor, room hasn't been clean properly, under the bed we found pair of shoes and lots of rubbish

Review 48:The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable

Review 49:Short on staff breakfast nearly cold tatty room one day room not serviced bed not made sit on toilet head and knees hit door doors need sound proofing noise at night dissapointed. Place could do with a good shakeup

Review 50:Views

Review 51:Our bed was awful the shower has spiders on the ceiling you open the shower door and it almost hits the toilet we found other guests toiletries in behind the wood at the back of the toilet the room smelled damp ,

Review 52:Hotel staff friendly

Review 53:Depending upon what time the shower is used it ranges from lukewarm to extremely hot. Luckily we checked this before letting our 7 yr old use it otherwise she would have been scalded. The taps for the sink are too small for the sink. The room we stayed in is badly in need of a refurbishment.

Review 54:The Hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. Good free wifi cover.

Review 55:Dated and areas for improvement required - damp/mouldy bathroom, broken windows, cycles stored in dining room(?)

Review 56:Good location, friendly staff, WiFi & parking.

Review 57:We had a lovely weekend, the room was spacious and had a lovely en-suit, Brian (the owner) was very welcoming and could not do enough to make our stay the best he could. The whole hotel was clean and fresh. Breakfast was lovely a choice of cereal, plenty of toast and the English breakfast was lovely not and greasy. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

Review 58:The bed was a little uncomfortable and the bathroom a bit small.

Review 59:The hotel was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We were welcomed by the proprietor who took the time and trouble to show us the facilities.

Review 60:Not enough power points in our room. Had to unplug the TV or bedside lights to boil a kettle.

Review 61:Room was good size, simply but well furnished, The proprieter was friendly and helpful. Room was serviced efficiently each morning.

Review 62:breakfast choice was very limited and the rooms were not quite vantilated and the wifi reception was very poor.

Review 63:Staff was quite friendly and location of the lodge was good.

Review 64:If you are tall, the bed might be a bit small in a single room.

Review 65:Staff was kind. Location was great near the beach and bus stop. Breakfast was good amount for me.

Review 66:The wifi signal was too weak for my device to catch it properly

Review 67:The staff was extremely kind and helpful, breakfast is good and the room was comfortable

Review 68:Staff were very helpful.Breakfast was as good if not better than higher priced places. We were given a substantial pack-up on our last day because we left early. Will certainly recommend Chester Lodge.

Review 69:Family rooms do not have the same comfort as the double rooms.

Review 70:We were looked after well by staff serving breakfast. Especially Brian was very friendly and helpful giving tour guidance on trips to popular resorts. In essence we felt homely during our stay.

Review 71:I booked on short notice after a change of plans and was not sure what to expect but had a friendly greeting, room was clean and comfortable and breakfast was very good. All in all, excellent value for money.

Review 72:Breakfast was not a full English and childrens choice was poor, toast was cold. Noise from passing street high. Bed extremely uncomfortable. Didn't feel comfortable going in to lounge when lights were always off. And bar never manned .

Review 73:The lady taking breakfast orders was extremely friendly and helpful.

Review 74:En suite was not private glass door in a twin room. Did not want to see or be seen going to the toilet! Ground floor room very noisy due to family room above and young children running around at all hours. Room next to back door exit/entrance which was noisy. No plug sockets next to accessible mirrors for hairdrying etc. Plug socket for television next to window was buzzing and when touched caused the telly to switch off. Very dangerous.
