Reviews for Hôtel Mounéa
Review 1:The lift was quite small but the four of us just about squeezed in with our luggage. The only real criticism was the lack of an extractor fan in the bathroom,
Review 2:The family room was a reasonable size for a family of four. Really close to the sites (Roman Forum, cathedral and river Ebro all within 5 minutes walk). The staff were very welcoming and helpful and the ground floor café was nice with a generous breakfast selection ... the tortilla (potato omelette) was particularly good, as was the Scottish coffee!
Review 3:The wi-fi was working only on the lobby area, not in the room. Not big deal though. But otherwise the hotel is very good and worth the money.
Review 4:Staff is very friendly and ready to help with any issue.
Review 5:Difficult to relax in evening as required to be quiet after ten Host said he goes to bed early and responding to quiet guest This place is lovely if you are happy to be in bed by ten. We were a group of families that wanted to socialise but no where to do this. We had met after long time so making the most especially as weather was stormy during stay
Review 6:Swimming pool Location View
Review 7:Lovely hotel very near Sarlat, but in stunning countryside with great views and a sky full of stars. Balcony rooms are very nice. Excellent family facilities (pool, games, pool table etc) and two restaurants a short walk away, one of which (La Ferme du Brusquand) is a do-not-miss experience for meat eaters. Also very good value. We will definitely stay here again.
Review 8:Beautiful location, really friendly staff and plenty to keep a young family happy. We used it as a two night stop over enroute to the med, only wish we could of stayed longer. The hotel is within a 10 minute drive from Sarlat and Les Ezyiers which were fantastic places to visit. If you don't want to drive anywhere then despite the hotel being in the tiny village of Marquay it still has a restaurant and bar\cafe. We used the bar for a drink and snack which was great. The bar and restaurant are only 30 meters from the hotel. This is a great little hotel!
Review 9:We were travelling around France for 6 weeks and so were carrying around food and so to have a bar fridge in the room would have been a big help. But in the 6 weeks it was one of the highlights
Review 10:This was a lovely hotel to stay at with our family. The entire place felt like it had been loved by the owners who were friendly and helpful. The pool and the surrounds were just delightful for us and our kids. There were 2 little restuarants in the tiny town and we had a nice meal there too. We would stay again if in the area
Review 11:Lack of air con or a fan in the room. Lack of tea/coffee facilities and refrigerator in the room.
Review 12:Owner was very attentive. Went out of his way to help make our stay enjoyable. Excellent swimming pool. Quiet location in the countryside.
Review 13:Needed Air conditioning. It was very hot(39 degrees) although this exceptional for this time. Nevertheless a cooler should have been provided atleast or another fan. Ask for ground floor rooms
Review 14:Very nice in hotel. Joel exceptionally helpful and guided us where to go.
Review 17:The owners could not have been more welcoming - I immediately felt completely at home. If you're looking for an inexpensive haven of peace and tranquility away from towns and cities, this is it.
Review 18:Room was hot, no air conditioning.
Review 19:Clean, comfortable. Very Good breakfast.modern facilities with good shower. Wonderful view from breakfast room. Easy drive to key attractions in the area. Interesting village.
Review 20:the village of Marquay is quaint and tiny. The country side is lovely. There are but two restaurants in Marquay. Unfortunately they both close by 7pm, very uncharacteristic for the French. Also the Mounea has house cats which have free reign to the premises....pertinent since my wife is allergic to felines.
Review 21:Joel & spouse were very accomodating to our change in itinerary ( arrived a day early, and left a day early). Also Joel & spouse arranged for early morning breakfast buffet when we and other guests had to scurry off at 6:30 am. (Usually buffet time was 7:30)
Review 22:there is no on site restaurant and although there is an agreement with a restaurant 50 yards away, the choice was limited and with elderly parents this was not ideal.
Review 23:lovely views, quiet location, very clean, lovely pool, excellent breakfast, helpful staff
Review 24:Having to climb into the bath to have a shower, not as agile at nearly70 as I used to be. Apart from that everything was great.
Review 25:Excellent room with large balcony overlooking fantastic views. Goodbreakfast with a large selection to choose from, although a littlepricey at 8.50 euro. Very nice restaurant just around the corner, theduck dishes were very tasty. Ideal location for visiting the area, lotsto see just an hour away in any direction.
Review 26:Nothing.
Review 27:The owners were so nice. Owner joel was so kind, going out of his way to recommend things to do. Lovely pool, though we never used it. Great breakfast and nice room which had an incredible view. So far, the Dordogne Valley is my favorite place in france. We loved it so much that we added an extra night and stayed three nights. Joel speaks english enough to communicate just fine and was so sweet that he even gave us a bottle of wine as a parting gift. We hope to return someday. We are traveling with two others and they feel same.
Review 28:The hotel was in a beautiful position, the pool was heated and very clean, staff and cleanliness was first class. I would certainly recommend this hotel.
Review 29:This was our fifth time in the Dordogne and i'm only sorry we didn't find Hotel Mounea the first time we went. The location may seem a bit remote but that is the beauty of it. Stunning views from the hotel and peace and quiet. it is also actually very central to many of the attractions being located between Sarlat and Les'Eyzies. Joel and his wife were the perfect hosts friendly and welcoming yet never intrusive. If and when we return to the Dordogne this will be the only hotel we will look for.
Review 30:Nothing
Review 31:The people The location The rooms The pool table The breakfast The terrace Other guests from australia The staff The restaurant in the village The pizza from a nearby campsite The friendly approach Car Parking
Review 32:Rooms were too hot with no Air Conditioning, but the owner provided us with Fan after we asked.
Review 33:great view, very nice and clean rooms nice swimming pool, garden and balcony very lovely owner that was keen to make our stay as pleasant as possible. excellent and very diverse breakfast
Review 34:Very welcoming and helpful. We felt more like friends than guests. Plenty of breakfast and often had the pool to ourselves. Close enough to places to see but in a picturesque quiet little village. We would happily return.
Review 35:We never asked if there was a laundromat in the village (which I am suspecting not) but we did some laundry by hand. We hung the clothing in the bathroom but we had to eventually leave them out on the patio to dry. There is no fan in the bathroom or AC in the room so it becomes quite humid in there and the floor can stay wet. I'm sure we would have been more comfortable leaving the patio door open for ventilation and for cooling off but we didn't because I really don't like insects buzzing around me especially if I'm sleeping. Other than not having a fan in the room, everything else was perfect.
Review 36:The hotel is in a beautiful location. The owners have really kept the grounds well. The outdoor patios/terraces had wonderful views of the hills and countryside. They were stocked with board games, a pool table, chess set, and ping pong table in the common areas. And there was a nice pool to cool off in. Joel and Brigitte were so nice and helpful. Joel speaks some English and he never failed to greet us warmly whenever he saw us, whether we were coming or going for the day. We had a nice family room that was quite spacious with a queen for my husband and I and two single (not sure if twin size?) beds for each of my boys. We were the only non-French guests at the time and so we really felt like we were visiting France. Just wish we spoke French as it would have been nice to socialize with the other guests more. Breakfast at the hotel was nice. We only took advantage of that one day as the other days we wanted to get an early start visiting different sites. Fairly close to Sarlat but we are so glad that we stayed here. It was so relaxing with a nice restaurant within a couple minutes walk. Our stay exceeded our expectations.
Review 37:We stayed 3 nights in this excellent hotel, located in a charming and quiet village near Sarlat. Super-friendly owners that make you feel like home. No doubt I will stop there again.
Review 38:nothing
Review 39:very friendly and helpful staff fabulous breakfast which could be eaten in the garden swimming pool and play facilities for children eating area with view where you could eat your own food delightful village with shop and two restaurants very close to hotel peaceful and beautiful surroundings
Review 40:No air conditioning so the room was warm especially as we had a room upstairs with no balcony. The hotel did provide a fan though this only helped a bit. The bathroom lacked a fan and was extremely warm especially given the slopping roof. Isolated location. Road from Sarlat quite narrow and twisty so even though the distance was not great it took some time to reach Sarlat which was a disadvantage in the evening when going for dinner.
Review 41:Pleasant owners who were very welcoming. Nice views of the countryside. Everything was very clean and tidy. The pool area was excellent for relaxing after a day touring the area. Breakfast was very good.
Review 42:Quiet location. Spotless rooms / public areas. Very friendly owner ( this was our 2nd visit). Stunning views. We will be returning again next year.
Review 43:Very well received. This is a very pleasant 2 star hotel in a quiet location within a solid tourist area. It has a very good complementary situation with the nearby restaurant L'Esterel and altogether a very good experience and excellent value.
Review 44:location with a beautiful view on the surrounding. very friendly service, extensive breakfast
Review 45:Very friendly family hotel...could not fault it!
Review 46:Couldn't get their wifi to work.
Review 47:Accomodating and friendly staff! Gorgeous location!
Review 48:Superb situation in remote old village. All facilities of very high standard as were the owners. Excellent breakfast.
Review 49:Location, panorama and friendly plus helpful attitude of staff
Review 50:Only one restaurant in village and it was closed
Review 51:Staff very helpful
Review 52:Delightful small hotel in idyllic setting perfectly located in this prime part of the stunning Dordogne.
Review 53:Staff. Peacefullness. Stay for two nights the drive will be worth it.
Review 54:Very personable and helpful. Kind and but not intrusive.
Review 55:Quiet location in appealing village. Charming hotel with good sized room and attractive swimming pool. Outdoor seating area for buffet breakfast was welcome in the heat and had lovely views. Very pleasant and helpful hosts. Only one restaurant in the village but it served great meals.
Review 56:Wonderful place to stay while visiting the Dordogne area. We stayed a week and loved the small village, but mostly the spacious and very clean room, the beautiful view from our room and from the breakfast balcony, and the hospitality of the owners, Joel and Brigitte. Very good breakfast at the hotel and a good Restaurant 50 meters from the hotel. Highly recommended.
Review 57:Very nice host, taking his time to explain all kind of different activities in the area - and there are a lot! A great location to discover the Périgord Noir. Quiet and clean.
Review 58:Internet connection in my room was not the best, but still good enough. And internet was really not that important to me anyway
Review 59:Quiet nice room, breakfast on terrace with lovely views, restaurant 50 meters away. It was located in the center of area i wanted to visit. Owner speaks english
Review 60:Room smelt a little overpowered by detergent but was fine once we'd aired it. Had to run a lot of water before water became hot. Very minor points really.
Review 61:Fantastic location in between Les Eyzies and Sarlat in pleasant rural village. Lovely, friendly owners, great facilities for kids, pool and good wi-fi. Large balcony overlooking pool was a bonus. Great price too...We'll be back!
Review 62:We loved this place. 10/10. It was so quiet and beautiful and had agreat pool and games set up. Breakfast was delightful, so fresh! Theowners were friendly and helpful although we spoke hardly any french
Review 63:Room in need of some painting and minor repairs.
Review 64:Located in beautiful small village adjacent to an excellent restaurant. Quiet at night. Very good value buffet breakfast including strawberries and patisserie.
Review 65:Would be good if they served evening meals, nearest toen was Sarlat about 8 miles away. Village has only one restaurant.
Review 66:Beautiful location in very pretty countryside. Clean good sized rooms. Friendly staff who spoke a little English.
Review 67:Nothing!
Review 68:Fabulous small hotel run by lovely couple Joel and Bridget who were very welcoming and helpful. Joel speaks good English and very willing to help. Lovely facilities for our 8 year old son, especially the pool and games. Great location, close to everything. Lovely tiny and quiet village with fabulous restaurant. Would highly recommend and will come again.
Review 69:the staff was not present at the premises - we had a little trouble getting hold of them They did not speak English as advertised
Review 70:The room was clean and well equipped The views were wonderful Lots of facilities to spend free time. Unfortunately we didn't have the time to try them all
Review 71:It was very hot and we would have liked a fan in the room.
Review 72:We had a lovely welcome and found everything about the hotel to be excellent. Loved sitting on the lawn with such a beautiful countryside view every morning at breakfast. Very nice village location. We would definitely recommend the hotel to others and will stay there again if we go back to the Dordogne.
Review 73:This is our second year at hotel and we will be back in 2014. We love the peace and serenity. The owners are very obliging and nothing is too much trouble.
Review 74:Very good location in a small but beautifull village. Most welcoming owners. Quiet. Good point to see neighborhood. Small restaurant just 50 meters away.
Review 75:Joel and Brigitte were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a lovely spot with great views. Fantastic varied breakfast which you can eat in the garden or panoramic dining area. Great value for money too.
Review 76:Very few dining options locally
Review 77:Loved location, gorgeous little town with great views and outdoor/indoor seating, staff very welcoming, breakfast was good, shower was good
Review 78:Super hotel. Friendly staff, spotlessly clean and in a lovely location. Perfect for our long weekend of sightseeing. Breakfast was very good with a great range of pastries and bread but also fresh fruit, yogurt cheese and meat. We will make a point of visiting again.
Review 79:Breakfast pricey at 8.5 euros but compensated by very reasonable room rates and good service.
Review 80:Easy access to the region and excellent hosts. Restaurant, corner shop and bar less than 5 minutes walk. Although there is no bar, there is seating everywhere and drinks can be ordered at reasonable prices.
Review 81:Noise can travel between rooms a little but is is a 2 star hotel although we've stayed in 4 star where this is a bigger issue. Really nothing to complain about at all.
Review 82:Excellent central location to troglodyte sites for those with a car. A lovely village with a nice restaurant just around the corner. The hosts could not have done it any better. A lovely stay so we extended for an extra night.
Review 83:I think that I would rent a car if I were to visit this area again so I could visit some of the farms in the area that specialize in foie gras production. The taxi fares between Sarlat and the hotel and also to the Lascaux caves was a bit more than I had originally budgeted for, but the lady who drove the local taxi couldn't have been more accomodating and nicer to us.
Review 84:The Hotel Mounea is located in a very tiny village between Sarlat and Lascaux. There was one small restaurant in town that was open during the time of the visit, and the food was excellent. If the weather had been better, I would have loved to spend some time at the hotel pool. The surrounding countryside was just magnificent. The hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful and the buffet breakfast was just right.
Review 85:Without a car it's troublesome to get there from the train station, there were no taxis and had to wait for nearly an hour before one lady finally accepted our wish to get to the hotel (so rent a car!) - which is a 15min mostly uphill drive with many windy roads.
Review 86:Very friendly owner Great breakfast Nice pool with lovely view Quiet countryside atmosphere Sunny grassy terrace
Review 87:Not so calm room neighbors ( families with small children)
Review 88:Calm location, good breakfast
Review 89:Out in the middle of nowhere. Had to drive to get food for lunch and dinner.
Review 90:Beautiful area and nice hosts.
Review 91:Really good place, friendly staff. Good breakfast.
Review 92:Very clean, very cozy. Wonderful view. Great place near Sarlat. Excellent.
Review 93:Very nice staff Pool, games such as babyfoot, ping-pong, scrabble,...
Review 94:hard bed noisy plumbing from other rooms thin towels
Review 95:Quiet location friendly helpful couple running it good breakfast very clean
Review 96:Beautiful location and friendly couple who run the hotel. Excellent breakfast and value for money.
Review 97:Fresh baguette rather than rolls would have been good for breakfast.
Review 98:Very pleasant and a warm welcome for both us and our dog.
Review 99:The breakfast was expensive for what you got.
Review 100:Nice people, nice location.
Review 101:Very good breakfast. Good location, close to Sarlat, Beynac, Les Eyzies....
