Reviews for Crerar Eight Acres Hotel

Review 1:on arrival discovered that there was a £2 surcharge if paying by debit/credit card, this was not mentioned in hotel blog. our contract was db&bfor 2 @£135 not 137£. the notice also said that contact cards were free for up to £30 so I asked if my bill had been £60 could I have paid it by card twice 30£ for free and was told yes!!!!!!!!, also if everyone paid by cash theit administration bill would be very much higher with bank charges.this is pure greed

Review 2:room was adequate, dinner was excellent and good value, breakfast was as good as it gets

Review 3:I think it would have been better if WiFi code was given at check in rather than have to ask. Also the charge of £2.00 for all card payments was a bit unusual and probably a bit high.

Review 4:Lovely hotel, friendly service. Shame I didn't get to use the pool facilities.

Review 5:The single rooms are all looking a bit tired now, the toilet/shower doesn't look all that inviting either.

Review 6:Good wifi throughout, pool and health club next door. Good bar and lounge area and a fantastic breakfast.

Review 7:Lesuire facilities bit run down. Room basic , clean but no frills. Small TV hard mattress, wardrobe seen better days and shower over bath with old style curtain. Definitely a trip back to the 70s in decor. Warm enough though.

Review 8:Good evening meal and breakfast.

Review 9:The music from the function suite reached my room. The reason l chose this hotel was the swimming pool yet it was closed on the Sunday morning.

Review 10:The room was warm and clean. The breakfast was good.

Review 11:Room and shower/toilet was very small and dated. The aluminium framed, single glazed window was running with condensation although it had been hidden with a modern, Roman blind. Altogether the place would benefit from serious upgrading rather than the cosmetic cover-up it has been given. Poor value for money.

Review 12:Staff were nice.

Review 13:Quite from the town centre along a very busy main rod for walking. There was quite a bit of condensation in the room and could also need a bit of TLC. Also a £2.00 charge for every time you use your card is a but harsh.

Review 14:The staff we wee very friendly and you could not fault the meals.

Review 15:No lift... carrying luggage upstairs is difficult ! Would have been nice if the swimming pool was open later at night (closed at 6pm) for those who like an evening swim!!

Review 16:Very helpful staff Excellent breakfast Room and bathroom lovely and clean

Review 17:They added £2 to our bill for administration, not alot but I was under the impression that the price was fixed at booking. Room was small, shower very small for £105

Review 18:Hotel had a pool and gym for residents to use which we enjoyed. The breakfast was very nice.

Review 19:Bedrooms out of date by the 1990's never mind now. Lights not working in room, coffee machine not working for breakfast and staff were not bothered by that. Didn't explain how breakfast worked. Not friendly or polite.

Review 20:The public areas were acceptable.

Review 21:I was a female travelling alone and was just a bit nervous as my room on 1st floor looked out over flat roof but I wanted the window open and it only opened from the bottom - not great for peace of mind. Room was very clean apart from the throws on bed which had hair on them as did the cushions.

Review 22:Staff were very helpful.

Review 23:Not the best value for money package at the price. And, albeit not too difficult to solve with relays, very poor mobile phone reception. That is important now.

Review 24:Friendly atmosphere and very helpful staff.

Review 25:£2 charge for card payments dissappointing. Single room - felt should have had chain or spyhole in door - particularly for females on own. Receptionist did mention rooms were to new deadlocks soon. Room bit tired decor and carpet wise.

Review 26:Very helpful pleasant receptionist. Nice lounge and enjoyed my evening meal.

Review 27:Hotel is a bit dated, windows need replaced. Walls are paper thin so you hear all noises. No lifts so you have to take two sets of stairs to get to first floor, which inconvenient if travelling with elderly. In this day in age I didnt think it would be allowed due to healrh and safety.

Review 28:The receptionist was very unfriendly. Didn't even look up or acknowledge anyone in the lobby or approaching the desk! When we expressed an interest in eating there that night she told us the restaurant was really busy but didn't check to see if there was a table - it looked like there was space when we saw it. If she's typical of Crerar staff I wouldn't book any of their hotels for the service.

Review 29:Clean and functional. Not the cheapest but fine if you're not looking for something special.

Review 30:Booked through your website at cost of £126 but hotel charged £128. Admin fee of £2 (admit small amount, its principal) should not have been charged and Booking.com should arrange to refund as this was not part of the booking arrangement.

Review 31:Bedroom look tired.

Review 32:The room I got was missing a wardrobe door cobwebs on ceiling and smelt awful very small room . when I complained staff couldn't believe it she had to see it for herself and agreed got a better room

Review 33:The location the spa

Review 34:Staff at breakfast are slow and not really interested in good service. Food was good and plentifull. Prices for bar meals expensive, drinks reasonable. Once again staff all over the place doing too many tasks eg serving in restruant and then running through to tend the bar, means long waits at times.

Review 35:very clean if a bit austere. lovely gardens. large rooms comfy beds. good shower.

Review 36:One thing let our stay down was that breakfast didn't start on Saturday till half 8, which ment we had to leave earlier and go and get a breakfast else where.

Review 37:Short one night stay, everything was clean and no complaints

Review 38:Cleanliness of the leisure facilities, while generally clean is in need for deep cleaning as it smelled mouldy and looked grubby particularly around the shower area. Breakfast cooked buffet was very dry and had been over cooked by heating lights particularly scrambled eggs and bacon

Review 39:Not one thing!

Review 40:This was an amazing hotel with an amazing restaurant and excellent staff. For example, they checked us into a room which upon further investigation did not have a travel cot set up. When the housekeeper arrived, she instantly said that the room was too small for a travel cot and upgraded us to a far larger room in a much better location. Amazing! Restaurant does an awesome steak, super value for money. Will be back here ASAP!

Review 41:I was disappointed by the hotel in particular the room. There was substantial condensation on the window. The bathroom could do with being updated for a fresher appearance. I feel a price of £60-£70 would be more appropriate per night.

Review 42:Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Cooked breakfast was good.

Review 43:Staff were particularly helpful and genuinely friendly. The bed and bed linen was of good quality and I loved the Scottish tartan wool blind on the window and the luxurious cashmere tartan throw. The quality of food was fresh and appetising,

Review 44:Bedroom had mould around window. Bathroom had no extraction fan, shower had no soap holder so you had to lean outside the shower to put soap, razer down.

Review 45:Location

Review 46:Single room was poor - in definate need of update - insulation required between rooms.

Review 47:Bar staff, bar meals and breakfast - double room was great. Barbprices for malt whisky was reasonable

Review 48:Room was long distance from reception. Hard work if you had a heavy case as no lifts. Double room was quite small. Bed was very hard.

Review 49:Staff friendly and helpful. Free wifi. Food was good. Clean. Shower nice and powerful. Plenty hot water.

Review 50:Room rather small and tired bathroom - the shower was so stiff we could have done with a spanner to turn on and off!!

Review 51:Basic room but good bed and nice reception areas. Arrived very late, and starving - receptionist (manageress??) was warm and welcoming and even made us a tray of sandwiches despite the kitchen being closed! Good breakfast, and good health suite.

Review 52:I travelled in a party of three with work, and we all had a very bad nights sleep due to the matresses being far to hard and a little lumpy.

Review 53:Bar area and restaurant are very pleasant. Food is well presented and tasty.

Review 54:They don't have elevators!

Review 55:Friendly staff helped carry up all our luggage up two flights of stairs and through several fire doors to our rooms. They have a large gym, indoor pool and squash court.

Review 56:Room very small and basic. Poorly decorated and not clean. More like a student halls room from the 80s than a hotel room

Review 57:Downstairs bar and lounge pleasant and staff friendly and helpful

Review 58:I was given a tiny cramped room as a single. Airless as the window didn't open. Rubbish and water on roof outside. More like a cupboard...and charged £70 a night. I complained and was changed to a better single.

Review 59:Requested disabled room for my brother in law who had recently had a heart operation - didn't receive a reply from hotel and when we arrived discovered that not only were there no downstairs rooms but also no lift AND our rooms were about the furthest walk from the entrance. No apology or explanation for this. Would not have booked if we'd have known.

Review 60:Bed comfy, shower ok, clean white towels. Breakfast was well served, tea and coffee plentiful. Staff pleasant.

Review 61:Thin walls, person next door snored like a heard of wild buffalo, not hotels fault I know. Room key for entry old style key, needs modernised. Pool area clean and tidy, but jacuzzi not very warm. Shower in room awkward to get temperature right. Minor issues in an otherwise pleasant stay. Watch out for the £2 credit card charge at end of your stay, no mention of it on booking. com.

Review 62:Decent room, clean , easy to find. Very good evening meal, and excellent breakfast. Nice friendly staff. Would stay again.

Review 63:Not informed that you have to order at the bar for drinks and food in the bar / lounge area. Staff could see us waiting but did nothing until they were approached. Room needed refurbishing.

Review 64:Convenient for our intentions. Lounge area very good; car parking excellent. Just outside town but only short drive to center.

Review 65:The extra charge for using a credit card. There is no mention of it on the booking site. Whilst it was only £2 per transaction, it is still a form of "stealth tax". Following a long journey to get their, a traveller doesn't want to argue about this, which is why this extra charge should be made EXTREMELY clear before a booking is confirmed.

Review 66:The facilities are excellent. The gym and pool are well maintained. Food is good and the rooms are well kept.

Review 67:Bing charged to pay by card credit or debit!!! We heard people decide to eat elsewhere in the evenig because of this. So I think over all they will lose out. This should be explicit when you book

Review 68:Rooms modern and clean bathroom not as up to date. Breakfast nice

Review 69:A very relaxed atmosphere where a woman alone feels safe and confident. Swimming pool staff were most helpful and caring. I love the holly tree at the front door, where I could watch the blackbirds feasting!

Review 70:Initially given a room that was too small. Told all double rooms werethat size! £2.00 charge using debit card or credit card for alltransactions. Why charge for a debit card? Restaurant staff not cleaningunder slate table settings. If you lifted the slate it was filthy! Staffhoovering carpet while guests having breakfast. This should be donebefore breakfast. Staff spraying table next to us while we were eatingalso putting cutlery down on unpolished cleaning spray! We made sure wehad cleaned our cutlery before we ate. I asked at reception if theycould find out where they got the leather sofas as I liked them andwanted to buy one. The girl at reception could not be bothered to tryand find out even though she was not busy. 'Oh they have been therefor ages' was her reply! I expected her to at least say she wouldtry and find out for me.

Review 71:When we asked for a room upgrade we were given a very nice suite for noextra charge that was given with no bother at all. Nice and warm hotelthat was stylish and comfortable. Friendly staff. Superb breakfast &dinner. Overall a nice 3 night stay.

Review 72:I would have rated this hotel higher had the waiting staff not been 'hiding' every time I tried to communicate with them. When trying to order dinner, they were standing in a cupboard at the end of a bar talking and another member of staff had to alert them to the fact that someone was waiting. When I went for breakfast in the morning, the waiting staff were nowhere to be seen as I stood waiting to be seated. It turns out the same two waitresses were in the kitchen talking to the staff!

Review 73:The leisure facilities in this hotel are excellent and the restaurant is very comfortable and spacious. Reception and leisure club staff are helpful and friendly

Review 74:Evening staff unhelpful, refusing me dinner or anything at all after a terrible journey due to bad weather, "go to Tesco" was suggested, rooms tired and cushions on bed smelt and shower leaked all over the floor.

Review 75:Very little, breakfast staff pleasant and breakfast ok.

Review 76:Staff were clearly under pressure/understaffed. Staff are multi talented, working busy bar then doing meal service etc. difficult to find staff at breakfast so things didn't quite come together.

Review 77:Staff were really nice. Nice room.

Review 78:Sirloin steak done just as asked for,Jumbo fillet haddock deep fried ,huge with beautiful, crisp beer batter. Bar/lounge with nice private areas. Plenty of parking.

Review 79:Tired rooms - flaking paint in bathroom, wallpaper loose in bedroom, short gel not replaced, no staff at bar during afternoon, private dinner going on in main dining room - allowing guests in the kitchen!

Review 80:Leaving..

Review 81:Very small single room Very small bathroom No bath Bedroom area in need of refurbishment. The price for this standard of single room is too high.

Review 82:Good Location Good bar food menu Decor of bar area is good & modern

Review 83:Located in suburban, quite difficult to get to Elgin centre without car. Not the newest rooms.

Review 84:Quality agile service, good fitness centre, perfect kitchen. Johnstons of Elgin store is not far.

Review 85:The single room (38) was smaller than a prison cell and had a bed and furniture from the 1970's. Maybe the other rooms were better, but certainly these ones leave a lot to be desired!

Review 86:The hotel had very friendly staff, reasonably good food, great breakfasts and good pool!

Review 87:Checked in just after 14:00 to be told that we could not have dinner in restaurant that evening as it was booked by function. No provision made for guests! No smoking room smelled of stale smoke. Single power socket in room. Tired decor. No working extractor in bathroom - condensation after shower running down walls. Noisy guests - had to contact reception at 01:30. Not informed about WiFi. No lift. Overall impression that functions are important, guests are not!

Review 88:Handy location.

Review 89:There was no street number on the booking website and the confirmation of booking, so we actually walked there the longer way. Also the rooms could use a bit of redecoration. The wi-fi not available from rooms nor from the hotel bar.

Review 90:Staff was excellent and very helpful. And the breakfast included in the room price was quite nice.

Review 91:Stairs are entirely too much, front door is too heavy to handle. Carpet smells like food soaked in, because there is an odour in the hallway. Jacuzzi was dirty the dead discoloured cells were evident. The rooms and sauna was pokey, no relax chairs in the sauna and that's what I went for. No lifts to the levels but a stannah stair lift installed for only 7 steps.

Review 92:Staff. Location. Tea making facilities, biscuits. Ummmh. Robe and slippers. The shower was magnificent, and the bath was a great length. The car park. Breakfast was good, but the one day buffet was better.

Review 93:Not worth that large price tag. The Room, while clean with a decent bed is in bad need of update. Ours had a terrible condensation problem which is obviously ongoing as the room did have a damp oder. The window was steamed up the whole time even when open and the window sill had rotted from the moisture. No mould or nasty stuff thankfully. The bathroom while clean had seen better days and all the energy saving lights in the room in general doesn't do the tired fittings (especially the Horrendous wardrobe) any favors. The door is not a Yale so you must remember to lock it. The room is also very very small with only just enough room to move round the bed and no more. The public areas of this hotel do not match the rooms in the slightest, they are modern and of excellent quality. I think this hotel would get much better reviews if it didn't try to pass itself of as an executive/upmarket stay. Its not, the rooms are on par with a service station travel inn but costing about 25-30% more.

Review 94:Good bits. - 10mbit Wifi in room uninterupted. - Buffet Breakfast included, acceptable quality - reception, bar and public areas of a high standard - Good location - Clean - Pleasant staff

Review 95:Oooh...in times past...the home made tartare sauce was my greatfavourite with the famous fish & chips...alas no more, it's agluey concoction...please make it again...if only just for me!

Review 96:Quiet twin room with firm support bed. Loved my window table forbreakfast watching the thrushes. Great airy bar/lounge where a womanalone can feel very comfortable. Haddock and real chips to die for...asusual. This is has been my hotel of choice for many tears.

Review 97:Room cramped and draughty. Lots of noise from the corridor. Overpriced for Elgin considering you can get a very good B&B for less than £50 per night.

Review 98:Fairly good breakfast.

Review 99:Very dirty hotel, bed sheets were stained, carpet was full of dirty marks & room smelt badly, breakfast plates were also bit clean & you had to walk to the other end of the breakfast room for a coffee, no service at all, staff were very rude, considering the cost of a room I was utterly disappointed & very cross, when I complained I was ask to complete a suggestion card, not taken seriously at all but I assume they will recieve slot of these.

Review 100:Old double glazed windows that didnt keep outside noise out. Staff didntmention wifiwasmt asked if my stay was OK Receptionist looked as if she wasnt interested HOTEL LOOKS DATED

Review 101:I needed a bed for the night and this was the only hotel I could get

Review 102:Rooms to small No air con or fan Bathroom dated No help with suitcases No lifts Large keys for doors Overpriced food Overpriced drinks

Review 103:Checking out

Review 104:bar and restaurant stop serving food at 21:00 welcome to the UK land of service. checked in at 20:00 after a long day, went to the pool for 30 mins to unwind and struggled to get something to eat. god only knows what tourist feel about this.

Review 105:pool and sauna are nice clean and locker rooms are mordern

Review 106:Pond @front of hotel badly in need of some tender loving care (an eyesore).Outside tables directly beneath bedrooms meant late revellers could disturb your sleep.

Review 107:facilities ,staff .breakfast(fab) &very comfy lounges.

Review 108:Our greeting when we arrived was lacklustre and and haphazard, and frankly surprising for Crerar. Our room wasn't ready - not surprising as it was 12 noon but the receptionist didn't appear to have the basic skills to deal with our request to check in at the very least - ' Um, err...can you give me ten minutes?' The same message could have been conveyed in a more confident, professional manner but a catalogue of issues followed. A quick snack was unavailable as one person only on duty in the bar and he was taking a large table's lunch order. He at least apologised but said that the order that had been given first would have to be processed first so we would not be able to get sandwiches reasonably quickly. We had to ask back at reception if it were at least possible to leave our bags - again this simple, common request seemed to come as a shock to the poor girl at reception - 'Well, yes, I suppose I could put them in your room'. Understaffing and a distinct lack of either charisma or training evident. Unfortunately the bed was so hard I had to sleep on top of the duvet with a blanket as it was hurting my hip; the breakfast although plentiful was a disappointing - had obviously been sitting out for a very long time. The pool required you to take your own towel down, meaning my husband had to return to our room to retrieve it, there were no soap products in the pool area showers, so he had to return to shower in the room using a wet towel. Again, all of this could have been explained to us earlier and he would have gone prepared. Sorry, but we will not be returning!

Review 109:Entrance reception and bar has been done up since I last stayed and is pleasant and spacious.

Review 110:Single room badly needed refurbished, en-suite shower room was tiny with no shelf in cubicle and no heated towel rail(no where to put one because of size of room) door of small wardrobe was missing and dressing table was made up of a kitchen workshop, no mirror in room and only one electrical socket.

Review 111:Breakfast

Review 112:Bedrooms could do with a lick of paint (this is the first time I've seen woodchip in a long time )

Review 113:Lovely lay out, dining and bar area crisp and clean

Review 114:the room had no window that would open and it was very hot and stuffy in the hotel. There was no AC so I had a poor nights sleep.

Review 115:the staff were friendly and treated me very well.

Review 116:The quality of my room was really poor. It reminded me of my halls of residents. I paid £69 off the Internet which I thought for one person at a three star hotel including breakfast was fair. But when I saw the room I was majorly diss appointed . To small and dated the toilet was bare and tiny. No air con and as this room was tiny and it was very claustrophobic.

Review 117:The staff were perfect. The breakfast was good.

Review 118:No lift to the bedrooms. My wife is an arthritis sufferer and found the stairs tiring.

Review 119:Expanse of gardens. Size of hotel means you are not to cramped with fellow residents.

Review 120:Pricing, i had a double room that couldnt swing a cat in and cost me £130. my friend next door got a family room for a price of £49. Residents bar was not open at night and also when i bought 2 vodka from one lady it cost £9.20 and when i got 2 vodkas from one guy it cost me £14.20. badly run place and will advice staying at the premier inn to anyone thats staying in elgin.

Review 121:Service poor didn't know their own menus to ask if required bread/crusty baguette with mussels: mussels served with no bread; also closed mussels( should have been removed before service) when asked for bread given soggy bread roll. Waited 10 minutes after ordering bottle of wine with meal. Second meal better burger with chips and salad. Wifi very poor had to reboot connection whilst in hotel; room had some wifi. Nice touch would have been for instructions on showers usage. Also tissues in the room. Last day of breakfast was asked did we require toast and tea/coffee said toast and coffee. We never received toast and by time our cooked breakfast came taxi had arrived for station.

Review 122:Ease of getting to surrounding areas and towns close to Elgin. Parking plentiful.

Review 123:Hotel requires major refurbishment the bedrooms & bathrooms are outdated and run down. When you compare the Eight Acres for value for money with Holiday Inn, Travel lodge, Premier Inn then the Eight Acres does not compete this our hotel chains.

Review 124:Breakfast was nice

Review 125:Staff were great, very friendly people who worked hard. The team is small so they have to cover lots of different tasks. The girl from reception seemed to be working everywhere.

Review 126:Tired decor and meandering internal corridors

Review 127:The leisure area was clean and well lit although the Jacuzzi was out of action

Review 128:Hotel needs the bed rooms updated.

Review 129:Nice Staff

Review 130:Single room very small and in need of refurbishment. Wood chip wall paper. Yuk!

Review 131:The restaurant was excellent

Review 132:They charge a £2 admin charge which you aren't told about through booking.com. This adds to their already somewhat unreasonable high cost.

Review 133:Paper thin walls Dated rooms

Review 134:Leisure facilities

Review 135:Not a criticism of staff but at the breakfast there appears to be a lack of staff

Review 136:Friendliness and facilities

Review 137:Friendly staff and wonderful food

Review 138:Comfy Bed, Free Wifi, Good drinks selction at bar, free facilitites
