Reviews for Cygnet Hotel
Review 1:This hotel looks as if it hasn't been touched in the last 40 years...apart from the newly painted purple headboard. The bedroom had a musty smell and everything felt damp; probably due to the bathroom fan not working. Jacuzzi didn't work during our stay and probably hasn't for quite some time considering it was full of dirty water, paint brushes and detergent bottles. This was another sign that the whole hotel has not been tended to in a long time. We were so disappointed that we only stayed for two of our three nights booked!
Review 2:The only positive about this hotel is the 5 minute walk to the beach.
Review 3:Grumpy and unwelcoming reception, knick knack filled, carpeted public areas trapping dust and dirt; lack of wifi in (tiny) bedroom; paper thin walls between bedrooms; broken towel rail in bathroom, poor roofing and/or guttering which meant water came in through open windows of bedroom and bathroom when it rained; unsanitary looking 'swimming pool' area; general tattiness, poor design and age of decor and furniture; very early breakfast (9am) and check-out (10 am), especially for a Sunday.
Review 4:Free parking. Quiet location.
Review 5:The bathroom was very tired looking. There was mould on the tiles. The bedroom door didn't close well, and bang every time someone walk along the corridor.
Review 6:We liked everything. One thing you may consider changing are the water kettles.
Review 7:Nice and cosy place.Walkable distance from Sandown Beach. The owner was very generous and courteous.I thank her for her hospitality.
Review 8:The staff was courteous. The hotel is not far from high street, beach etc. However there was no entertaining on the days we went although it was long weekend. The hotel had eerie silence as there were few guests. The bar was not open but the staff was courteous to serve us as we liked. The rooms do not have wifi (have only in common areas as mentioned on website) The TV sets are a bit outdated and there was no light in closet. But we did have a comfortable stay. Thanks to the staff.
Review 9:The Hotel is set in a bygone age which I think many appreciated and believe is right for this hotel, although sadly the owners for what they said was the last 2 years have indeed inherited a massive challenge, to rectify and refurbish the entire place of around 50 bedrooms and en-suites, all of which have long seen their sell by date, a very tired building internally with need of every inch of repair and renovation, much similar to a beautiful old vintage car or sunken ship, badly in need of salvage and restoration, would be a worthy cause if monies were of no object.
Review 10:owners and staff couldn't be more friendly, a very warm retreat to escape from the now if that's what you want and back into a bygone era.., which seems to be a great attraction to many guests, although now 60 we were probably the youngest of most guests.
Review 11:rooms very basic. Pne near the road, a lot of traffic noise. As independent bookers we were not told that breakfast was later for us and so we ended up in a busy period in the dining room when we didn't need to be there and eating later would have suited us better. breakfast was good.
Review 12:reasonable price, late booking at a busy time of year.
