Reviews for Sandringham Hotel
Review 1:The porter when we arrived walked off ahead & we was trying to keep up with him when we have small children, also no help offered to carry any cases.
Review 2:The position of the hotel
Review 3:The Poole was not clean the spa facilities were not functioning when I tried to use them.no shower that I could find within the spa area to shower before accessing the Poole and when getting out . though not hotels fault people net to me in an joining room shouted banged doors and were very intimidating for a long period. The breakfast was well presented and very clean but portions mean in size and fell short on quality the toast was really not nice no choice given brown or white and you could say it was not of any quality . That's being generous Finally the reception was not very helpful on arrival lackluster springs to mind.
Review 4:The room was very good every thing you would need was there warm and comfortable.
Review 5:Lack of information in Bedroom trying to ring reception no number available . as a large couple the double bed was a issue and did not lead to best of sleeps.
Review 6:I liked the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel and felt at ease very quickly .
Review 7:Don't let the first impressions put you off - looks a little run down from the outside.
Review 8:Great value for money. Rooms are a good size and bathrooms appeared brand new. My sister and I stayed during October half term on a room only basis. I felt it was really good value for money. The price difference between us sharing a twin and having a room each was quite small, so it meant we could have a room each.
Review 9:There was a noisy draft blowing through the window and the shower was little more than a trickle.
Review 10:Excellent location. Attentive staff. Beautifully appointed room.
Review 11:Bathroom had a very small shower which spoilt it. No Wi-fi in bedrooms. Pool was very cool, no changing facilities and sauna was not on despite the fact that it should have been.
Review 12:Lovely bedroom and spacious bathroom.
Review 13:Being a bit picky but I found the heating a bit too hot.
Review 14:Great views of the sea, friendly staff and comfortable rooms. A great place for a short break.
Review 15:The staff were Excellent especially the young female waitress for breakfast. Our room overlooked the beach and was huge. We had a wonderful stay wish it had been longer than one night. Will return
Review 16:Elevator ancient ( bit scary to use). Poor system for using dining room , had to go downstairs to reception and pay/get voucher , not very welcoming way of doing this! Also reception treated you sometimes as though you might have been "sneeking" into hotel rather than paying guest ! Some stafff were trying so hard to lift the image of hotel/ standard of service, but a few , well ????? Lots of old, closed other establishments gave Sandown township feeeling of "faded glory", place had seen better days!!
Review 17:Cheap price and had a balcony with view of the sea. Large room spacious, and renovated , modern bathroom. Obvious that the establishment is in the process of expensive (tasteful s goal) rennovation/update with some excellent newly completed sections but some things still to be done.
Review 18:The reception staff set the tone for the short break as they need to learn how to welcome and greet properly. The girl that dealt with us tried to make unnecessary fuss of the parking procedure which we clearly understood, then charged us an additional £40 for a sea view room which on booking.com we believed would be £15 a night and then asked for card details to process payment immediately. I then said I would pay for breakfast for us the next morning and again had to pay by card immediately which I found very frustrating. We were not getting our room any earlier so asked could we use the pool and sauna etc in the meantime which was answered by yes so fair enough but then had to pay £2 upfront to use the sauna which we found ridiculous. If you have our card details we are going nowhere and surely there is no need to keep providing the card for every purchase? I just set our break up in the wrong way. It was interesting that a family of 5 came in just after us and they went through a similar scenario. I left the lobby for ten minutes and came back to see the family still there with two members of staff seemingly challenging them on their card details too, I felt sorry for them as they must have felt like criminals. The irony is that the hotel is in a fabulous location and though the interior needs a refurb its a nice place with nice serving staff. The Wi Fi available is also very very poor, it certainly effected our enjoyment of the two day break. May I suggest that the hotel incorporates the breakfast in with the price shown on booking.com in future as ultimately they seemed to keep finding charges for you, whereas if I had a price for everything desired at the start it would be much less fuss. In short you could do better....
Review 19:Location fantastic, bar staff and serving staff pleasant.
Review 20:the property seems to have been a number of properties that have been joined together. all on different levels so the property is a bit like a maze, and you go up and down and round and through multiple fire doors to get to your room this would not be good for the older clientele who predominate on the island if they has mobility issues.
Review 21:I liked the location and the sea view, the hotel also had a large pool and spa area. Easy to find from the train station
Review 22:Nothing to dislike apart from wifi only available in lounge/bar areas but not in bedrooms.
Review 23:Comfortable & relaxing hotel in good location on the sea front. Bedroom was tastefully furnished & clean. Spacious lounge/bar areas & dining room & I enjoyed the entertainment on some nights (a talented duo).
Review 24:Deco is dated, facilities very basic. Not many good restaurants around.
Review 25:Was clean, and staff were friendly. Location was good as it's just few yards away from beach.
Review 26:They want £10 for breakfast! Far too much. I went to a local cafe instead.
Review 27:Great location, one side on the beach front promenade and the other on the high street with shops, cafes, restaurants. Lovely, newly furnished room, with great en-suite bathroom. Nice lounge area, large and well furnished. Very comfortable and good price. They also have an indoor pool. Don't understand why it's only rated 2*.
Review 28:We wanted to upgrade our room and was not allowed to for some reason even though there were higher balcony rooms available and a greater earning capacity for the hotel.
Review 29:We liked staying at the hotel, staff could have been a little more friendly and accommodating.
Review 30:I was charged twice for my booking. When I got there she did not refer to anything to indicate we were already booked and prepaid. She made us pay in advance. How do I get my money back for the double charge ?
Review 31:The breakfast was ok but well over priced at £10 per person.
Review 32:The hotel was good, the staff were nice and the room with on suite, sea view and balcony was amazing.
Review 33:owner is storing illegally bank details and addresses. When this was pointed out to her she become aggressive and was swearing - totally shocking behaviour; pool is disgrace with no changing rooms so you have to walk in your towel through the hotel...I could continue forever
Review 34:location
Review 35:If I had to be very picky I'd recommend the hotel get black out curtains for balcony rooms as the balcony lights stay on at night. Also £10 for a breakfast seems steep when there are plenty of lovely beach-side cafés offering cheaper breakfasts (we did the latter).
Review 36:A beautiful location with lovely staff to greet you. We booked a room with a balcony and a beach view and we were amazed at how beautiful it all was. It was lovely hearing the rush of the waves in the room. The slightly dated decor of the reception area offers a charm of its own!
Review 37:Musty smell in all the hotel, the bed was only 3/4 size not king size or even double Breakfast 10 pounds each far too expensive Hotel lift kept breaking
Review 38:Location opposite beach
Review 39:Very noisy from all sides. Lift to one, corridor with kids running around to another and late night kebab shop outside our window to another.
Review 40:Room and bathroom clean and modern furnishings
Review 41:Staff members could have been little bit more friendly. When we booked in they just gave us the keys and didnt show where our room was. So we needed to find it by ourselves.
Review 42:We loved the view as we booked a room with a sea view and balcony. It was very enjoyable to have a coffee in the morning at the balcony and see the sea. We also liked the swimming pool.
Review 43:Family friendly our two grandchildren loved it and the pool. Although breakfast seemed expensive £10 per person dinner was excellent the same price as breakfast but for three courses !
Review 44:The room was very clean, an excellent view and it was such good value for the size of the family room. The staff were very friendly. The location was excellent, straight across from the beach.
Review 45:First impressions aren't fantastic, but then it is 2 star and those first impressions are soon gotten over as overall it represents great value, particularly if the weather is good.
Review 46:Close access to the beach.
Review 47:the rooms next to main roads can be noise with morning traffic not great for light sleepers
Review 48:the hotel was very clean and smart lovely decore large room great location friendly staff good beds great location next to the beach
Review 49:The pool was pretty dirty so off putting to use. The staff on reception could do with improving their overall customer service skills and levels of friendliness to really make a difference apart from Alex who was excellent. One of the pool tables was out of order which was a pity.
Review 50:The position of this hotel is totally excellent- a walk over the road from the beach, in a lovely area with great shops, facilities and restaurants very close by.We didn't do breakfast as felt was quite expensive for a family of 4. The rooms at the back of the hotel are exposed to the high street- literally you are on top of so much noise- traffic, noisy passers-by- not helped by a pizza restaurant open to midnight each night!. After our 1st night we were lucky enough to switch to an ocean front suite which was lovely.
Review 51:Nothing we didn't like. It would have been nice to have wifi in the rooms but this didn't spoil our trip in any way.
Review 52:Staff from the cleaners to the bar staff to the restaurant staff to the management were all very friendly and helpful at all times. Food was excellent value (3 courses) every day. There were lots of places to visit in walking distance of hotel. Indoor pool and sauna was great and we had a lovely stay and will be returning in the near future.
Review 53:Expensive breakfast; no Wi-Fi in the rooms; no clock ; some reception staff appear abrupt- noisy room with stairs on one side and town on the other transport very expensive.
Review 54:The location pool sauna huge sitting areas.
Review 55:Later checking in time made us wait for 2 more hours to check-in. No internet in the room only available in lounge.
Review 56:Great location with very nice beach view. Very convenient transportation by bus. Good services. My friends' iphone was soaked in the water. The 'bar man' kindly provided a box of dry rice to help absorb the water. Though the phone did not fix eventually , we should thank the help.
Review 57:Hotel facilities, offerings, amd approaches somewhat stuck in past decades - especially the lounge and catering. Lots of polite notices with lots of "no's". On sumday, we were woken by a dog barking in one of the rooms that continued for more than 1 hour.
Review 58:Location
Review 59:The bedroom soundproof I don't like in the morning when I still sleep, a staff take a key open my bedroom before she didn't knocked the door very no privacy. You
Review 60:The price was to high for what is was but outdated and needs modernisation
Review 61:Location was really good right on the beach and sea view was really nice apart from having to share the balcony with others so couldn't really sit back and enjoy the views
Review 62:There is no mini fridge in the room so was difficult cause we had to keep milk Breakfast time n dinner time is not mention at booking.com
Review 63:I did like the location of the hotel The cleanliness The friendly staff especially on reception
Review 64:no wifi facilities at room , lift was not working and many door to acces to room and already I paid for parking while booking but there is limited parking spaces I did not get it.
Review 65:I front of beach
Review 66:My bin was still full when I came..not enough towels...
Review 67:Everything, it was fantastic amazing view. I felt like I was home away from home... staff was great too willing to help..
Review 68:The most helpful and welcoming staff I have ever come across. Will be back. The hotel is in need of some updating but the staff and comfort far outweigh this.
Review 69:I didn't like the faint smell of urine in my bedroom nor the absence of air conditioning or even a simple fan, which meant youths could be heard through open windows, as they shouted nonsense late at night in the High Street. So avoid staying in a rear facing room on a Saturday night. It should be noted that the lift is small, slow and seems to break down every other hour. Also, the official car park is a 5 minute walk from the hotel, which felt even further away when it rained. I wasn't too impressed with the English breakfast either, which came with economy sausages and was poor value at £11 (check-in price) per adult.
Review 70:Even though the bedroom had an off putting smell, it was quite ample in size and was kept tidy. I also liked being able to walk to the beach and having a warm swimming pool inside the hotel was welcome on rainy days. Although, it would be nice if they built some proper changing fascilities. I was impressed that they booked a band for the weekend nights. They were happy to entertain children, which was a plus.
Review 71:No WiFi in your hotel room and it's really noise at night when you sleep at the street side due to costumers of a quite popular place which sells kebab and cars passing by.
Review 72:Hotel room looks brand new and the bathroom is just perfect. Nice beds and lovely decorated. Wonderful to be this close to the beach and great private parking place just 200 meters from the hotel.
Review 73:Nothing
Review 74:Lived the comfort of the rooms. The staff were friendly and easy to get along with the pool was brialliant the hotel is located very near some very good eating facilities
Review 75:No fridge in the room, mattress way too soft, pillows were awful, bad positioning of TV and mirror, furniture made room to dark hairs on sheet! Yuk!
Review 76:Location of hotel, nice balcony to sit on overlooking the sea, staff friendly room clean
Review 77:We have stayed in pet friendly hotels before where specific rooms are allocated to guests with pets so this is would be our suggestion as although the room looked clean to the eye, it still set off my Son's allergies. Windows could also do with a clean for better enjoyment of Sea Views.
Review 78:Great location & a nice size room, friendly staff and good value for money overall.
Review 79:no wifi in room(only in lounge), no drinking water available in room, no free breakfast, lift was very slow
Review 80:location is good, sea view room was nice, jacuzzi /indoor swimming pool were good, lounge is good
Review 81:We liked the location of the hotel right on the beach and the restaurants along the front. The staff where very polite & helpful in answering any questions that we asked.
Review 82:Very noisy in the night disturbing the sleep, breakfast is not worth the money we paid. We could have got better deals as the area is full of breakfast shops
Review 83:Seafront and nice nearby restaurants and cafes
Review 84:Dated public areas and very restricted times for breakfast and dinner.
Review 85:Great shower in newly refurbished bedrooms. Staff helpful with arranging parking
Review 86:Hotel needs updating and room was exceptionally stuffy. Breakfast was expensive for portion size and choice. Should consider continental buffet style breafast.
Review 87:Fantastic location - very clean and staff were very helpful. Close to beach and all local amenities.
Review 88:I have two main problems with this hotel, one is the attitude of the staff and the other is false marketing. When we entered the hotel we were welcomed by receptionist who seemed to have received a first class masters’ degree in "doing the bare minimum". She was extremely cold and rude throughout our short stay. She was very successful at making us feel apologetic to even ask something, as if our presence there was not a direct result of us being paying customers but was a gift from her. She can really use a refresher course in hospitality and in fact general communication, starting with the importance of looking at someone’s face while they are talking and –even if rarely- smiling. Having said that, her attitude might have been tolerable had we had less contact with her, which brings me to my second subject. We booked “a room with a balcony”. In fact in the explanation it says “This double room features a balcony”. I have realised the ugly truth that actually “three adjacent rooms feature one communal balcony” when I stepped out from out room, took a step and faced with a person swiftly closing their room’s curtain when I was trying to stretch out. For us, the whole point of having a room with a balcony was to have some quality time as a couple with direct sea view, but as you can guess- this is somewhat limited with three couples share the same balcony- without even any separators. To be fair here, my further observations along the coast showed that there is at least another hotel with the same architecture, but it does not discount the fact that how the reception reacted to my discontent about how they market the room. When I explained the situation to the aforementioned lady in the reception, she first said “booking.com has a lot of restrictions on how we can market a room”. Although I am highly doubtful about this claim, I said “you can at least describe it in the explanations section”.
Review 89:Location is great, right by the beach. There is a small jacuzzi which we were able to enjoy as early risers but may be a tad on the small side.
Review 90:Town facing rooms prone to traffic noise and loud people going home from the pubs. Had to have windows open as room very hot and no fans available in the hotel
Review 91:Beautiful old fashioned charm about the place. Leisurely breakfast service, never felt rushed. All the staff very polite and courteous
Review 92:We were disappointed with the choice and quality of food in the hotel - guest house standard at best.
Review 93:The best aspects of our stay were the attentiveness and friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of our room.
Review 94:Due to pre-allocation of the 35 window seat tables none of the early rises were able to sit at a window seat to enjoy their breakfast thus early rises were deprived of this enjoyment whist 35 tables remained allocated to absentee occupants that did not appear between 8 and 8:45 In spite of requesting a window seat this was flatly refused due to the allocation rule It was noted that other early rises were equally annoyed and frustrated at this antiquated idea. The booking was decided upon advertised elevator NO mention was made that elevator started at the mezzanine floor
Review 95:The view
Review 96:lift starts on first floor drinks expensive room long way from lift two lots of stairs entertainment playing to empty room duo had been resident for a long time
Review 97:sea view jaccusi a bonus changing facilities in toilets of next door lounge
Review 98:Poor bathroom design - no hooks hang clothes- no soap dish in showers - shower tray filling to overflowing - wash hand basin taps that obstruct rinsing your face and flush buttons for loo not easily accessible. Loose plug socket at kettle point. Generally creaking floor boards and poor sound insulation especially being above the ballroom.
Review 99:'City view' means over looking the busy high street and at the buildings on the opposite side of the road. Bed gave us backache
Review 100:Sandringham is a nice hotel with helpful, friendly staff and a lovely view of Sandown Bay if you are in the lounge or have a sea view room
Review 101:No complaints other than I wished I could have stayed longer and that I forgot my swimming costume!
Review 102:The location, comfy bed & excellent service! I loved the brekkie & my gorgeous waiter - thank you Joe for looking after me.
Review 103:the hotel staff were so helpful when i arrived and really friendly. i was able to book dinner and breakfast on arrival and both meals were really good and the service exceptional. a good selection of wines both by the glass and bottle at low prices. this hotel was really good value for money and ideally situated with unrivalled views across the bay. i was able to park my car on the forecourt but was offered a private reserved space if i wanted it.
Review 104:Couldn't find anything wrong!
Review 105:Room was lovely, clean and spacious, good decor, comfortable bed (great night sleep), amazing new bathroom and the sea view - WOW!
Review 106:hotel looked tired needs decoration and good facelift.
Review 107:the beachfront location and the welcome on arrival plus the friendly and helpfulness of all staff especially lucy on reception.
Review 108:Not too keen on the tea tray - especially the uht milk
Review 109:Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere combined to make a very pleasant stay. The waiter in the dining room was particularly attentive and pleasant.
Review 110:have refurbished all the bathrooms which look great, but now only have showers, no bath to have a soak in.but only a minor point.
Review 111:lovely position, right on the beach, lots of places to eat along the beachside road
Review 112:I did not like the fact you had to pass the games room to go to the changing room from the swimming pool. Perhaps they could think about changing this layout since its under refurbishment. I do agree that some of the older staff at the reception could do with a little smile and a better guest relations training.
Review 113:Great location and stunning. Stayed at a room with sea view and well worth it. Clean rooms. Swimming pool ( although the water was too cold ). Breakfast waiters very good and attentive. Inside interior of the hotel better than the exterior.
Review 114:Rubbish signal on tv (very hit and miss - mostly miss) and no wifi in rooms made for very long nights with young kids in bed earlyish No lift to first floor Breakfast was nice but over priced (£11 each per day - adults and kids!)
Review 115:Great location next to the beach, very comfortable room, newly done out. Great pool and jacuzzi with convenient towels available
Review 116:The younger receptionists were fine but I found the older ones could do with going on a customer care course. They could do with putting a new lift in. The one they've got is very juddery and clanks a lot. A bit alarming when you're all by yourself. Didn't like the fact that you had to cross a games room to get from the changing rooms to the swimming pool (fortunately there was no one in there at the time.) Would have liked the breakfast menu to have a little variation maybe a couple of times a week, maybe add some fried potatoes or pancakes.
Review 117:When I got there the young lady receptionist asked if I would like an upgrade for just an extra £22 and I was so pleased I accepted the offer, a beautiful bedroom and shower room with a balcony overlooking the sea. Lovely indoor swimming pool and I liked the idea that they had board games and books that you could borrow near the reception that was a nice touch. Splendid Hungarian waiter at breakfast friendly bar staff. Would like to go back there with a friend in the spring
Review 118:There wasn't anything to dislike!!
Review 119:Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they were all very polite and friendly. I found out they had upgraded my room when I arrived which was a.nice surprise.
Review 120:Unfortunately my bathroom was poor and the breakfast was ok with great service but at £8.50 was poor value
Review 121:Good staff, great location, very good value for money
Review 122:If I could change one thing it would have been another lift or the current one being faster. Apart from this our stay was very enjoyable and we would return if we were to visit the island again.
Review 123:We enjoyed the facilities that the hotel had to offer especially the pool and sauna. We were also very pleased that it was open until 10pm, this gave us a chance to go for the late night swim.
Review 124:could do with a little updating, but good value for money
Review 125:location,friendly staff, scrummy plentiful breakfasts, comfortable room,8,close proximity to bus stop, entrance onto high street
Review 126:THE STAIRS!!!!!! I have fibromyalgia and other ailments,I thought the lift would be from the ground floor. nobody to help me with my heavy suitcase. the corridor doors where very noisy. The bed was on wheels and every time I sat in it,it moved from under me and the bathrooms need updating. being at the back on the street was noisy. its expensive for what you get, they could include breakfast. With such a big ballroom they maybe could of catered for the scooter rally like others and had a music and dancing??? The hotel feedback and book where hidden in a drawer.
Review 127:the cleaners where friendly the bedrooms where nice i liked sitting watching the sea on the balcony
Review 128:Doors to rooms very thin, hear everything going on outside. Shower attached to wall rather than hand held would be better.
Review 129:Location ideal, staff very friendly. Property inside and outside dated, but OK for one night. Unusual not to have changing rooms at the swimming pool.
Review 130:Hotel door was closed at midnight , we'll they opened for me when I asked , Shower need to be updated Dinner to be extended as they stop serving food at 8 ,
Review 131:The pool, sona ... was nice I've use it my self , location was very goo too
Review 132:The carpet in the bathroom! Especially as there is no shower curtain to stop the splashes. The shower was just a simple attachment to the taps. This was okay in itself as the water was hot and fairly powerful, but a simple expedient of attaching it to the wall would have made the experience nicer. (The room had a large, flat-screen tv so some money has been spent of late on the rooms).
Review 133:The staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet, despite facing the street. The sea-view from the dining room and balcony was nice, so not needed from the bedrooms (which are cheaper facing the street). And although I didn't have breakfast, the coffee served by the bar was decent. Given the location and cost, I think this is a good spot for a mid-cost weekend away as long as you aren't picky about the old-fashioned feel of the rooms.
Review 134:They charged my disabled mother an additional £140 to have a room with a shower. I'm still considering taking legal action under the equalities Act 2010 for discrimination.
Review 135:By the sandy beach
Review 136:horrible smell of dogs as soon as you entered the reception area, two large dogs laid behind reception.waiters stood with hands in pockets and one biting his nails!!! terrible noise every time you flushed the toilet. I could mention others.
Review 137:bar staff were ok,breakfast was ok,
Review 138:The brown bathroom suite. No showers at the pool. Very dated decor. No shower in the room. Breakfast was lovely but simple. I asked if they had a piece of fruit or a yoghurt and was told if it's not the menu we don't have it. No brown toast? We wanted to buy a drink at the bar but could not charge to room. We had no cash and was refused a drink. This is 2014. We went somewhere else for drinks and dinner. I just felt they are missing a trick. A few customer service values and it would have been 100% enjoyable.
Review 139:Location. Reserved parking. Very comfortable bed. Good size room.
Review 140:All a bit tired and scuffed at the edges. The lift did a good line in unnerving creaking, the room whilst perfectly servicable was filled with too much 70's dark wood furniture giving the room a cramped dark feel. Was particularly disapointed to be told off by the waiter at breakfast after sitting at a laid table overlooking the seafront "that we didn't understand their system" and ordered to move!
Review 141:The location opp Sandown beach was v pleasant as was the general layout. The pool looked good but did not get a chance to use it.
