Reviews for Les Hauts de Montreuil / Le Patio

Review 1:The bathroom was rather small for a family room.

Review 2:The staff were most friendly and helpful - especially when one of the children was ill. Breakfast excellent. Dining in Le Patio was a pleasure.

Review 3:The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. This hotel has an excellent restaurant and we enjoyed our meal here far more than at the pretentious and over-priced La Grenouilliere.

Review 4:The bedroom was very clean, but could be made generally more comfortable.

Review 5:The staff were all very pleasant and the hotel had a warm and friendly atmosphere. The restaurant was very good. It was very clean. The location in the town was convenient and central.

Review 6:Bedroom although clean was very tired and the bathrooms were in dire need of refurbishment. This would put me off staying in this hotel in the future.

Review 7:Great location in a lovely town. Super breakfast and helpful staff.

Review 8:Bathroom in room 25 very cramped. Would not have wanted to stay in the room for more than a day or so.

Review 9:Lovely location pleasant room but bathroom let it down a bit. Great staff and very good value breakfast. Le Patio restaurant good food and value

Review 10:The charm of the old building, the extremely comfortable bed, the delicious evening meals and very importantly the wonderfully friendly owner who created a warm relaxed atmosphere

Review 11:The only slightly disappointing aspect of the whole stay was the breakfasts. Some of the hot food was cold and also had run out by 09.30. We chose not to have breakfasts after the first 2 mornings of our 6 night stay. Not worth the 10 euros per head.

Review 12:The Patio restaurant was superb. The ambience and decor was very good. The owner and the staff always made us feel welcome and were very couteous and helpful. The food was excellent and very well presented.

Review 13:Disappointed that we were unable to book an evening meal at the Patio Restaurant. Suggest that customers are advised when making a booking to stay at the hotel it is recommended to book for the evening meal.

Review 14:Location was good and breakfast varied and plentiful. Room was small but comfortable. Bathroom also small but all the facilities worked.

Review 15:As usual in French hotels no kettle in room for early morning coffee.

Review 16:We visited this hotel 25 years ago, wow it's really changed! The room was very good and enough room for the two of us. Well appointed bathroom. We loved the raised beds with herbs and other things growing for the kitchen to use. The staff were really proud of their gardens and hotel. Everywhere was walkable in the town - free parking in the impressive main square if you avoid the blue zones!

Review 17:Lovely warm welcome. We stayed in room 31 with its Jacuzzi bath & enormous bed... Very relaxing hotel with beautiful gardens a great bar with an amazing log burner & fabulous restaurant in Le Patio. Highly recommend this place!

Review 18:As ever, it was only after making the booking I was informed the hotel restaurant was closed.

Review 19:Very friendly staff, attractive hotel, excellent location in a very interesting town.

Review 20:Shower wasn't very hot and wi-fi signal was poor in room( but not an essential item.)

Review 21:Friendly clean small hotel. Cosy bar with huge woodburning stove Excellent restaurant meal and good breakfast.

Review 22:The decor in the room was pretty tired, and for a "comfort" room, I thought it was a little basic.

Review 23:The staff were lovely, dinner was excellent and there was a very cosy bar and breakfast room. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was quite powerful.

Review 24:Very difficult to find from the instructions given by Gites de France If it had been dark we should have been completely lost! Please be aware that this is in a commune and not a village so there are no shops within walking distance.

Review 25:The tramquiliy and charm Close to a town with great supermarket

Review 26:Very good location in the centre of Montreuil, with a very nice courtyard. A welcome change from identikit chain hotels. The restaurant was closed on our visit, but breakfast was one of the best we have had in France for a long time

Review 27:Restaurant closed on Thursday, when we were there! Another one was recommended in the town which was excellent.

Review 28:Good location for an overnight stop. Parking available. Nice town. Good restaurant. Have been to restaurant before

Review 29:Just a little gripe - the car park could be improved. However the security aspect is very assuring.

Review 30:The location. The young lady on Reception was very welcoming. She was as efficient and welcomling at breakfast the following morning. The Restaurant is a must, excellent meal.

Review 31:Very comfortable hotel ,well situated .Owners take great care to make everything comfortable . Food at Patio also beautifully cooked the husband of Madame Anne .

Review 32:Super location in the centre of the town. The hotel was very comfortable and the staff welcoming. We stayed just one night prior to catching the ferry and it all worked well.

Review 33:The blue standby light on the telly lit up the whole room, I was woken up with it flashing on and off at 2 and again at 5 in the morning, I had to turn the TV on and off to stop it, I couldn't find the power of switch to turn the whole thing off. Perhaps there could be a note on the remote control to explain where the main power switch is.

Review 34:Good location, plenty of free parking in the main square a couple of mins walk from the Hotel.Lots of places to eat.

Review 35:The breakfast was very average

Review 36:The convenience of having an excellent evening meal on site. The courtyard was good to have breakfast or enjoy an evening drink

Review 37:Room (No.1) very hot on arrival - had to leave window open during the night to keep cool.

Review 38:Room recently refurbished - good shower and bathroom - comfortable.

Review 39:Thought that the car parking fee was rather expensive and unnecessary. Just took off "the edge" for us - or are we merely mean?

Review 40:Room lovely, fabulous breakfast, very helpful receptionist. In keeping with Logis group that we find both good and very consistent.

Review 41:2 star room in a 3 star hotel Problem with wash basin plug not working and one light bulb not working though these were fixed when reported. Lack of good customer communication from one apparently senior member of staff.

Review 42:Location

Review 43:Parking on the main road. Probably my fault as I didn't pre book one of the spaces in the garage across the road. Wifi reception was poor.

Review 44:Comfy bed. Room okay. Restaurant meal was exceptional, and breakfast very good.

Review 45:Breakfast buffet had limited choice re fresh fruit bread hot food,Lovely fresh croissant on plate at table but wasted if you don't eat them.No salad. Limited toiletries Toilet flush unreliable

Review 46:Oldest building in Montreuil Spacious room Eating breakfast outside/inside Helpful staff even though limited English Car Park

Review 47:The rooms are not as traditional as I expected - given the frontage of the hotel.

Review 48:Really helpful staff and a fabulous location for our visit. The breakfast was good.

Review 49:WiFi not available in all rooms. Although this didn't bother us too much but some people who need it may need to request a room that has the WiFi.

Review 50:Clean room, allows dogs. Gorgeous courtyard. We were just passing through so didn't spend much time there, literally just slept there. But the bed was massive & very comfortable.

Review 51:The hotel is set in one of the oldest buildings in the village but with all the facilities that the modern traveller requires. The evening meal was fantastic.

Review 52:The staff were really friendly and welcoming, particularly the girl on reception. We had an excellent meal in Le Patio restaurant during our stay. Montreuil is a lovely little town.

Review 53:We booked with you and our special request was to book us in for dinner. We did not hear back so assumed all was well only to find when we arrived that the restaurant was closed all week! Not at all impressed. You are supposed to be our booking agents. If you had told us the restaurant was closed we would have reconsidered. We would like your comments on this.

Review 54:Proximity to town

Review 55:For the car-borne guest, parking within the hotel was restricted to two spaces and gates were locked at 11pm. The adjacent parking area did not open until 7am so an early dash for Calais was impossible unless parking in the town centre. Management was totally unsympathetic with the Calais crisis and every request to help us leave early was answered with 'non'. Aircon in the bedroom noisy and ineffective and the bathroom had a yellow stain around the lavatory

Review 56:Courtyard was a reasonable place to sit after a long drive.

Review 57:The restaurant was closed. The towels were very, very thin and there was a hole in one of them. There was no wardrobe in the room and no means of hanging clothes. The wifi was not available during our one night stay.

Review 58:The staff were very friendly and efficient. There was a very pleasant seating area around a waterfall.

Review 59:Sadly the Patio restaurant was closed for the week which disappointed us. The free wifi wasn't working but to be fair I didn't bother to pursue this with reception staff.

Review 60:This is a very convenient stopover en route from or to the rest of France. The rooms are not luxurious but are comfortable and very clean. The courtyard is a very pleasant place to sit and relax.

Review 61:Only negative aspect was the towels - very thin

Review 62:Rooms all located off a lovely courtyard and parking just across the road (payable to hotel and must be booked)

Review 63:The seal around the shower panel was not good enough to prevent water from cascading onto the floor leaving a very soggy bath mat! The quality of the hot breakfast was poor.

Review 64:It's location and relative comfort

Review 65:Hey again my request for a bath was ignored. Had to push for this. Also plastic found in dinner should have had some money back. Poor WiFi.

Review 66:Ease of access, nice room and secure parking

Review 67:Nothing to dislike, even the rooms have been upgraded since our last visit in 2014

Review 68:The food and wine were fabulous, the people just so warm and friendly.

Review 69:Only downfall is that we were staying in one of the outer rooms and never could access the wifi.

Review 70:Great breakfast! One of the best hotel breakfasts we had in France. Also, great dinner there with great service and food. The room was very nice and roomy. Loved the atmosphere and building.

Review 71:The room was OK, no more. Not up to the same standard as the bar, the breakfast or the building.

Review 72:The bar was lovely. A great way to relax before a superb meal at the restaurant next door.

Review 73:There wasn't anything we didn't like.

Review 74:The staff was super-friendly, and could not have been more helpful. The two evening meals we took in the hotel restaurant were absolutely superb. We would stay there again, if we were to visit Montreuil-sur-Mer in the future, and would recommend it to friends.

Review 75:WiFi didn't work in our room and not great in reception area

Review 76:Very attractive building and courtyard in excellent location just 100 yards off main square. Food in the (Le Patio) restaurant delicious and reasonably priced, very good buffet breakfast, and friendly and welcoming staff. Can reserve parking in rear car park.

Review 77:The bathrooms are getting a bit shabby and could do with a refurb. The paintings in the bedrooms are AWFUL. Get rid! Let's it down a bit when everything else is so good.

Review 78:The staff, the breakfast. The courtyard.

Review 79:Wifi didn't quite reach our room across the courtyard, though it was fine in the courtyard itself.

Review 80:Fine old building with a lovely courtyard. Excellent central location. Good breakfast and restaurant.

Review 81:Nothing.

Review 82:The staff were really good, very cheery & friendly. Its a pub with rooms so dont expect the Ritz but it was clean and tidy and I would recommend it.

Review 83:Sadly, the restaurant, which some of our party had been to before and found very good, was closed on Thursdays, the night of our stay.

Review 84:The layout of the hotel - separate rooms in separate buildings round a courtyard The comfort of the rooms - lovely bed and shower. The general environment-courtyard and gardens with access to town walls nearby

Review 85:WI Fi is a bit patchy in some areas of the hotel but you are made aware of this and honestly it isnt a big deal

Review 86:EVERYTHING! The staff were really helpful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They were genuinely pleased to be of help and service. Le Patio restaurant was superb. Great ambience, fantastic food and great value for money.

Review 87:Only French channels on the tv. No safe in the room.

Review 88:Deluxe room much better than their standard rooms. Courtyard area with seating. Convenient location. Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable. Their restaurant Le Patio is excellent.

Review 89:Could only get the free Wi-Fi in the main hotel building and not in our room, which was in a separate block.

Review 90:Booked a comfort room which had a 6ft bed and small, quiet fridge as well. Away from the road and was very quiet. Lovely courtyard to sit outside and have a drink, as well as a cosy bar area with log fire.

Review 91:Les Hauts is the perfect spot to spend a very enjoyable night before continuing on our way across France. We do this every year and it doesn't disappoint, especially a wonderful dinner in Le Patio restaurant.

Review 92:Le Patio restaurant is just superb - worth a stay for the meals alone - and the hotel accommodation and facilities iare much improved after the refurbishment.

Review 93:No bad experience as such it was just that we missed not having coffee/ tea making facilities in the room.

Review 94:The staff were were really friendly and the breakfast was excellent. We enjoyed a few evening drinks in the bar after eating out. The staff and residents were very friendly.

Review 95:Paying separately for breakfast, which seems to be increasingly common in French hotels. (That said, breakfast here is excellent).

Review 96:Great central location but also close to rampart walls (super views). Attractive courtyard layout with patio and separate block for bedrooms gives plenty of space and a rural feel despite being in centre of town. Free adjacent parking a bonus. Madame and staff are very welcoming and friendly. Cosy bar/lounge and outdoor patio and great restaurant. Will definitely be back.

Review 97:Unfortunately, the room offered was very small and only had a skylight window, so very claustrophobic. Whilst another, very small room was offered, we decided to stay elsewhere and we were given a refund.

Review 98:The staff were very helpful and polite - even when we decided to stay elsewhere.

Review 99:Picked this hotel because it looked like it had some character. Bedrooms were very dated, 70's style. Room was clean and comfortable, though facing onto road and quite noisy - though traffic died down late on. Bathroom modern, but not enough hot water, very difficult to reach the taps to switch on. Towels very small!!!!!

Review 100:Good location. Character bar area. Nice patio area. Rooms clean.

Review 101:No bad experience, but room was practical rather than luxurious and we would have been glad to find facecloths provided. Breakfast and dinner were served in buildings close by, but outdoor clothing may be needed to get from room to meal and back in inclement conditions.

Review 102:We were allowed access to our room earlier than expected and found the staff welcoming, friendly and efficient. Dinner at the Patio was particularly good, as was the service. The setting of the rooms in well kept courtyard gardens was pleasing and hotel car park conveniently situated.

Review 103:There was no hook on the door in the bathroom. The bedroom lacked space to put small items of clothing. The towels were very clean but rather thin, would prefer thicker towels.

Review 104:The Hotel layout, the inner courtyard and the breakfast room gave a feeling of space and freedom.

Review 105:We had bedrooms 21, and 22 which are right in the roof with only verlux windows, so for us just a view of the sky

Review 106:The quirkiness of the hotel. Everyone very friendly. I would visit again

Review 107:No shelf in the shower. No tea and coffee facilities in room nor a hairdryer. Wines too pricey

Review 108:Rooms nice and clean and set around nice courtyard. Breakfasts good. Dinners excellent. Staff friendly.

Review 109:Perfectly OK but the recent refurbishment of the courtyard rooms is too modern and too 'corporate' for such an old establishment.

Review 110:Quiet, comfortable, well appointed.

Review 111:We liked it. a couple of small niggles. wi-fi weak in courtyard - but in such a setting who needs powerful wi-fi? For breakfast - the coffee machine did not produce the best coffee I have had in France. BUT I will almost certainly have breakfast there again when next I stay.

Review 112:On a cool night, retiring to the bar from the restaurant for coffee and sitting in comfy leather chairs in front of a blazing open fire. The building is (said to be) the oldest in Montreuil. It shows in a good way. The current owner bought it 18 mths ago + is improving things (though I suspect more than ok before). The breakfast - for the price - good value. Includes such more traditional items (to the English) as fresh bacon (in a bain marie - but replaced regularly), scrambled egg etc. Toast making facilities also available. The restaurant meal (it is a Logis) was excellent. Good variety of food, well presented and tasty. Good value. Montreuil is a lovely place to 'pit-stop' near the channel ports. our first stay at Les Hauts - but hopefully not our last.

Review 113:An English language TV news channel would be the icing on the cake.

Review 114:This hotel is one of our favourite places to stay in France. The building is rustic but comfortable with essential mod-cons such as Wifi and good showers. The newly refurbished rooms are particularly good with very comfortable beds. The restaurant is superb and the breakfast well worth the additional cost.

Review 115:We were given a quiet room on request as we had heard that the traffic on the cobbled street could be a disturbance. It was good to have sheltered parking available. The evening meal in Le Patio next door was wonderful!

Review 116:There was no lift at the other end of the hotel building where our room was located and had to carry our luggage up the stairs.

Review 117:Very basic hotel but is in an excellent location, just a few yards walk to main square of Place du General de Gaulle and to all local bars and restaurants. Staff at the reception are very friendly and speak fluent english.

Review 118:Lovely warm welcome, beautiful old building and excellent restaurant. The rooms have been completely refurbished and the new beds are really comfortable.

Review 119:The staff were helpful and attentive, and the room was clean and comfortable ... with a very good sized bed. Breakfast buffet is good value for money ... which is always nice.

Review 120:Bathroom fittings a little in need of upgrading/replacement, but clean.

Review 121:Friendly attentive staff; room v comfortable; breakfast certainly worth the cost, buffet with great choice, beautiful fresh croissants and bread; had birthday meal in their restaurant which was really really good and not v expensive.

Review 122:Price does not include breakfast.Parking extra. No kettle or tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Family room in the courtyard had no washbasin in the toilet.Had to cross the room to wash our hands. When it get wet crossing the courtyard to breakfast. Long way from carpark to rooms and reception.

Review 123:The location. Such a pretty and full of character old town. Not far from the channel ports and beautiful surrounding area. Lovely old hotel. Very attractive and extremely comfortable. Excellent staff, cleanliness and plentiful food. All excellent. Central and easy to find. Love the court yard rooms. Spacious and huge, clean, comfortable bed. Courtyard rooms very quiet. Owner of hotel most anxious to please in every way. Full of character!!

Review 124:The wifi signal in our room was quite poor.

Review 125:The hotel was in a great location on the edge of town but within the ramparts. The room was comfortable and the breakfast was great.

Review 126:Room was good, but needs some upgrading; there was a strange layout with the toilet and shower spaces at opposite ends of room, and the carpet in particular was thin, and office-like. Owner explained they have renovation works planned, which is an understandable explanation, and it was still very good value.

Review 127:Attractive, period premises, central but quiet, with very pleasant interior courtyard. Room was large, warm and clean with new, large bed (we had superior room) and new TV. Breakfast was one of the best I’ve ever had in any hotel, with plenty of French home-cooking and well worth the supplement! We had an excellent meal in hotel restaurant which I'll review separately.

Review 128:Overall a nice little hotel but we did feel that the towels could be bigger and of better quality and the bathroom could have been warmer.

Review 129:The bar is cozy with a log fire. The restaurant is also very good. Staff extremely helpful. Great location and smashing breakfast. We have stayed twice and will go back again.

Review 130:Need to walk outdoors between room and breakfast room - not a problem when dry but not so good in the rain.

Review 131:Large ground floor room, big bed very good breakfast

Review 132:Please be aware that pets are charged 10 euros per night - something that should be mentioned in here on booking.com

Review 133:Breakfast although additionally charged is excellent and worth every cent, staff is friendly and willing to help, bed is our room was massive, shower powerful and clean Although we learnt about the extra charge for pets after we booked ours stay, the hotel staff was really helpful and waived half of the charge due to lack of information on booking.com

Review 134:Unfortunately the restaurant was closed the night we stayed - so we'll just have to stay again in the not too distant future.

Review 135:Superb in every way - from the warmth of the welcome to the ambiance of the main building, the nice and spacious bedroom with excellent en suite, to the impressive breakfast.

Review 136:The hotel has private parking which costs €9 per night but is rather cramped if one has a large vehicle. But the parking is locked at 12.00 pm which is good for security.

Review 137:The staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. There is a small bar/lounge with an open fire in the colder months which serves bar meals at virtually any time. Le Patio restaurant is excellent; cosy, warm, and very reasonably priced. The hotel is just off the main square which is convenient but avoids noise on busy weekends.
