Reviews for Hôtel Le Choiseul

Review 1:Not a thing! EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT!

Review 2:It is a beautiful, elegant and historic site in a perfect location overlooking the Loire and a 5-minute walk into charming Amboise village & chateau. The food, furnishings, staff and intriguing grounds, including ancient caves, were all superb and made for a perfect and magical holiday visit. It was also a special birthday and the Chef and staff exceeded all expectations with their special preparations and exquisite menu for our family party.

Review 3:Bathroom furniture a little outdated but spotless.

Review 4:Lovely hotel & great location. Helpful staff. Bright breakfast room with view on garden. Nice breakfast.

Review 5:The bed wasn't comfortable. No room Service or kettle in the room. Arrived mid afternoon and wanted a Coffee . The man behind the counter said the kitchen was closed.

Review 6:Location

Review 7:It is a gorgeous historic hotel with modern amenities. Less than five minutes picturesque walk to Amboise's main street. Rooms are very spacious and lovely. It has one of the village's best restaurants overlooking the Loire river. Lovely breakfast hall with garden views. Staff are very friendly and helpful. When I had an accident and could no longer walk up to my 2nd floor room, they replaced my room with a more expensive one on the ground floor at no extra charge. Parking is available. All in all amazing.

Review 8:Beautiful large room with wonderful grounds for walking around. Excellent breakfast. We booked very late so the restaurant was booked so did not get to try. Very short walk to the town center.

Review 9:Fabulous and lovely place to stay. Staff incredibly nice. Very helpful in English. The grounds are beautiful. Very beautiful place and perfect place to enjoy.

Review 10:The friendly helpful reception. A clean, well appointed room. Excellent dining room and staff with attention to detail without being overbearing, making dining a pleasure. Superb breakfast.

Review 11:We were on holiday but doing work at night in another time zone and the wifi was very unreliable - it kept shutting down - staff weren't really interested when we reported this back.

Review 12:A lovely historic building with very helpful staff.

Review 13:The staff and superior attitude Bed uncomfortable

Review 14:Thought staff arrogant and very snobby Lovely town poor reception Next time would prefer to stay in much cheaper hotel with polite courteous staff If you don't want to come away avoid this hotel

Review 15:Breakfast choice was good but not exceptional given the price.

Review 16:Kindness and attention of the staff which was exceptional. They even offered to iron my crumpled clothes free of charge! All my food allergies were catered for with no fuss. Great atmosphere and good relations between staff at every level. Staff combined warmth with professionalism. Food in Le 36 restaurant was superb and the views over the river Loire were gorgeous. Location excellent with a gentle stroll into the centre of Amboise. Plenty of parking at the hotel. Views of castle while relaxing by the pool. Highly recommend.

Review 17:We travelled with a pet dog, which was a bit restrictive. We understand perhaps about the restaurant not allowing dogs, but felt the bar area would have been allowed.

Review 18:The comfort and spacious rooms, breakfast was great with plenty of choice and top standard.

Review 19:Felt a bit overpriced...shower was weak and room was rather small for the price.

Review 20:Walking distance to town center and convenient location for exploring Loire valley, moderate variety of breakfast and nice environment around.

Review 21:The hotel is beautiful, the grounds superb and to top it off on a sunny day the pool is like a dream - clean, perfectly clear and over looks the corner of the castle walls. Located on 15 mins from the bustle of the small town.

Review 22:There was nothing I didn't like. Maybe the internet was weak in our room....

Review 23:I liked everything. It's perfectly elegant French Loire and it has great food too.

Review 24:No issues noted.

Review 25:Location, facility layout, parking, pool, breakfast, staff (friendly French hotel folks who would have thought!!!! Wine steward was amazing. Older facility, not a Hyatt/Hilton, but renovated rooms and bathrooms.

Review 26:not being able to get a drink from the bar at 10.45pm, very unhelpful night staff, inefficiency at dealing with a complaint, breakfast items not available

Review 27:loved the location and the hotel grounds, loved the town

Review 28:nothing.

Review 29:The location was great, the breakfast was wonderful. The staff was friendly and ready to help with any needs. The room was large and very comfortable.

Review 30:Room a bit dull. Breakfast very good, but difficult to eat enough to justify cost!

Review 31:Position good Restaurant had lovely views of river and food good.

Review 32:We felt the room was not as described, the furniture was very poor, the room was very shabby and the whole venue needed a complete refurbishment. The garden and grounds were maintained to a very poor standard and our terrace, with very shabby garden furniture was unusable. Very expensive and poor value for money.

Review 33:The hotel occupies a superb location close to all amenities. Dinner at the hotel was very good. Staff were pleasant.

Review 34:Dinner is over priced. Have eaten in some very top restaurants. We thought the food although very well presented lacked flavour in certain areas. Our dessert was nothing special and not worth the 14 euros. Dinner the previous evening in another town was exceptional and the dessert to die for for was half the price. The dining room was full but I doubt if honest everyone would not have rated it 10/10.

Review 35:Beautiful hotel in excellent location. A very short walk to the town and Chateau Amboise which is definitely worth a visit. Beautifully decorated hotel throughout. Bed was really comfortable and the ensuite bathroom was spacious and light with ample toiletries and bathrobes. Staff very pleasant and helpful.

Review 36:The room was really very poor for the money. A jumble of furniture, no room to put everything in the room - e.g. hanging cupboard in bathroom. 1980's fridge, no free water, tiny window, attic room. I was hoping that this would be a lovely treat, no such luck. It pained me to pay the bill.

Review 37:The location, and the hotel building

Review 38:the aircon had a slight problem with noise when starting up upon a signal of the termostate; no ventilator in bathroom

Review 39:the location almost under the castle and very near to the centre, the setting in between the river and a steep hill, the fine food, the attentive service, a secure private parking

Review 40:Unfriendly reception, poor breakfast choice, poor cleanliness in room, functional but for a SLH hotel at the prices they charge it wasn't worth it. Hugely disappointing.

Review 41:Cave at the back of the property

Review 42:The pool was not heated, and when I took the problem to the front desk, a smart-aleck told me I could, "just swim faster." This just made me more annoyed. I was also put out with the restaurant, 36, being fully booked from when I made my reservation.

Review 43:Liked the room; liked the breakfast very much. The staff was excellent except for a smart-aleck at the front desk.

Review 44:We loved the room with its traditional blue silk lined walls, and the view over the Loire. The ground were peaceful and dramatic with the caves in the cliff behind. Altogether a place we will revisit!

Review 45:Frankly can't think of anything!

Review 46:Our room had it's own little back exit onto the gardens and terrace. Very practical when travelling with a pet...

Review 47:the hotel restaurant was expensive 51 euro for fixed menu. The breakfast was included but i felt disappointing, pastries were hard and the hot items underdone. I would have expected higher quality of this.

Review 48:the room was lovely, great comfy bed. the view of the chateau above wonderful...

Review 49:We liked that fact that the hotel was very close to the Château Amboise. We liked the offered leisure activities, the rich breakfast and the look of the hotel. The room was very clean. We didn't have dinner at the hotel, as there are many other and less expensive restaurants within short walking distance.

Review 50:As usual, no tea/coffee making facilities in room.

Review 51:Lovely room, Delicious food in period surroundings. Good location close to Amboise. Private parking.

Review 52:wiFi - you had to keep logging back in and it was not particularly fast. The breakfast was not the level expected. Better pillows would be good

Review 53:location, staff, ambience. We had dinner on the first evening - just fantastic (although not if you are seeking a cheap night out). Great bathrooms and furnishings. easy to walk to Amboise highlights.

Review 54:WiFi arrangements are poor, limited to 3 devices - we had four - had to log in daily which is tedious. Hairdryer did not work. Breakfast choice on the last (Monday) morning was a bit sparse but OK.

Review 55:Clean, comfortable and spacious room - a junior suite; superb and friendly staff; excellent cuisine; very good wine list; quiet.

Review 56:The setting is delightful, an easy walk to the attractions of Amboise. The staff could not have been more helpful. Our room was clean, large(for France), and very well appointed, with easy Wifi. The restaurant,Le36, is a gem that deserves at least one Michelin star. We were thereoff-season, but in summer you can see the Loire from your table. Highlyrecommended!

Review 57:Amboise is a beautiful town and the hotel is an old chateau which overlooks the river. We had a magnificant room with a vast bed which was incredibly comfortable. The restaurant was a revelation. Fantastic staff and great cooking albeit maybe a little over lit. Breakfast, unusually, was included in the price of the room and very good it was too. All in all I would like to return to Amboise and would definitely stay here again.

Review 58:It is worn out in terms of carpets, curtains and linen. We did not have hot water for 2 days and there are leaks in different places in the bathroom. There are better options around it in Amboise for the same price.

Review 59:Couldn't get the shower to work but happy to use bath with full view of the countryside !

Review 60:Peaceful valley with back drop of green hills and the sound of cow bells. Beautiful parkland. Room and views great as was restaurant.

Review 61:Shower in the bathtub (again!). No shower curtain, so if we showered standing up, water would have covered the bathroom floor and flowed out of the door onto the carpet. We could see where this had happened already, so we showered sitting down. Very unsatisfactory. No proper power outlet in bathroom; only a shaver outlet in side of a mirror. Supplied hairdryer ineffective, so my wife had to use her own in the bedroom, where there was no mirror. No elevator and 45 steps to our floor! Low timber beams in hallway and our room were dangerous. Toilet cistern took 20 minutes to refill.

Review 62:Very big room. Proximity to town attractions. Caves behind hotel (Roman grain silos)

Review 63:Nothing, did not stay long enough

Review 64:Great location to see Loire valley, amazing place, everything is fantastic, hotel is superb, breakfast is great, staff are awesome

Review 65:The only thing that wasn't ideal was that we had to carry suitcases up one flight of stairs but that is understandable as they are not allowed to put them in due to the wonderful old buildings. I'm sure if we asked the staff would have carried them up for us.

Review 66:Great location along the river and our room looked across the water. I would recommend the restaurant for a fine dining experience, and the breakfasts were great too. Staff were extremely helpful with advice and directions. The pool was a welcome relief at the end of the day too. Having free parking is convenient as well.

Review 67:Thr room had no charm or chracter. You cant depend on the photos the hotel supplied. Basically this hotel gave me a lousy room and I will a lousy reiview. They deserve it

Review 68:The location great. Near the village

Review 69:The hotel is walking distance to the village and the castle. The room was beautiful with a view of the Loire River. Excellent service was provided. The gardens were also beautiful and the caves something never experienced at a hotel. We had a great time.

Review 70:Prices were very steep We expected it to be expensive, but even so we thought it was a little over the top We paid for a superior room with a river view, but as we were in the attic and being short people had to stand on a chair to see the view!

Review 71:Location was great Hotel was beautiful

Review 72:Wife got very sore neck from the pillows. Had to use a commercial wifi service that sends you a lot of advertisements.

Review 73:Room decor, views, location, breakfast, grounds.

Review 74:Something in the room I was allergic to. Likely pets, but it wasn't too bad.

Review 75:Staff was really great. Welcoming and brought us coffee before breakfast had opened. Went out of their way. Really good.

Review 76:Beautiful chateaux hotel friendly staff and excellent service however extremely disappointed with our €191 tiny little room but the rest of our stay made up for it would recommend for a short luxurious mini break

Review 77:One night is but only a tease.

Review 78:Warm welcome and nothing seems to phase the genuinely attentive staff. In beautiful surroundings but not over produced, nor pretentious. Late lunch of cheeses, bread, dried fruit, and a refreshing regional artisian beer... in the sunshine near the peaceful and equally refreshing garden pool. Rested and invigorated the next day. A votre sante, Le Choiseul

Review 79:Rough sheets on the bed which was out of character with other superior facilities

Review 80:The historic buildings of this hotel; the private courtyards and small gardens, It's proximity to the Loire River.

Review 81:Nothing

Review 82:Beautiful setting ,our room looked over the river .Car park in front of hotel in its own courtyard so very convenient .Breakfast buffet very good in lovely room overlooking gardens .We ate in the restaurant in the evening ,lovely food and service although we felt a little expensive .

Review 83:First room offered as spacious and airy but was small and located in attic. Overpriced . Dining lacked all atmosphere from staff although food good but not excellent . Not as good as 2 years ago . Service for afternoon tea very poor. Umbrellas for pool difficult to obtain and falling to pieces. Will not stay or eat again.

Review 84:Swimming pool and location

Review 85:bathroom was very dated and dirty, causing us to complain to management.room was not as advertised and below the standard we would expect from a 4 star hotel

Review 92:Great location and hotel!

Review 93:Wifi didn't work. Got the smallest room in the hotel Noise from the upper floor

Review 94:7 Euros for a bottle of water

Review 95:Lovely Room, friendly staff, good breakfast, quiet at night

Review 96:Standard rooms good size but at top/rear of hotel, dining experience shade too formal - lighter food choice desirable

Review 97:Location, parking, breakfast

Review 98:Overpriced

Review 99:Well located, nice staff

Review 100:near to town centre, view of river, large bedroom and bathroom, great breakfast, top class dinner

Review 102:Signing in wifi every day was necessary

Review 103:Staff, view, food

Review 104:Good location, just under the chateau, very good restaurant with great view to the Loire, especially during sunset.

Review 105:Quaint decor, really nice setting

Review 106:Dinner in Michelin star restaurant was excellent. Well positioned room with views over Loire and to the Chateau.

Review 107:Dinner was far too expensive so we ate down town where there were plenty of good restaurants

Review 108:good location in a great town

Review 109:Staff, environment, comfort of room.

Review 110:having to climbe the Stairs to attic rooms we should have been warned as our companions are older.

Review 111:location, Building and grounds.

Review 112:Friendly helpful staff, charming room even if not the grandest, excellent menus, good location for exploring the Loire valley.

Review 113:air con not working and suite needed refurbishing

Review 114:good location to town

Review 115:We were told garden view room but window was an attic one and the other rooms offered were tiny.

Review 116:Breakfast was good and big room.
