Reviews for Abisko Turiststation STF

Review 1:The bathroom and washroom needs to be shared but the cleanliness is overall acceptable. However, only 2 bathroom and washroom are available for 6 rooms which is not enough for a group of people. The bed sheets needs to be purchased in counter but it's not necessary. We didn't buy and we had a good sleep as well.

Review 2:Since it's the only hotel that located in Abisko STF station, we chose this hotel for our one-night stay. The location is perfect to observe the aurora light because it's inside the national park. The view is amazing. The staff is helpful and friendly.

Review 3:No negatives

Review 4:Walking distance to the Sky Station, variety of activities available with excellent guides, cozy restaurant serving good breakfast and local delicacies, in-house convenience store

Review 5:The onsite shop was closed and no dinner/lunch variety. Could've done with being told about the closed shop before getting there

Review 6:We liked the scenery, location and quietness and the Northern Lights. Very helpful reception staff.

Review 7:We came during the off season, so the restaurant was not open during out stay. We didn't know that until we got there, but that is really more of our lack of planning. The good thing is that there is a store onsite (open on demand, due to the off season) with food items and some essentials.

Review 8:The location is amazing as it is very close to the hiking trails.

Review 9:I stayed at this property during the Fjallraven Classic. I booked a cottage in October, for an August stay, knowing they'd sell out quickly. Check in was supposed to be at 3pm and when I went to check in, I was told my cottage had not been cleaned yet. I asked when they expected it to be ready and was told to check back every 15 minutes (meaning I had to wait in line each time), which I did not understand, especially since guests are supposed to clean the cottages before they check out. Cottages are very basic and I would suggest bringing your own blankets, as the duvets are not cleaned between visits. You can rent linens and a duvet cover if you wish.

Review 10:Beautiful location and close to the train station. It's the end point for the Fjallraven Classic, so it's very convenient to stay here.

Review 11:We travelled with 5 children, and did arrive 45 minutes to check-out, i.e.., 10:45am (it is hard to wake up 5 children in the morning after being the whole day walking in the mountain). No flexibility at all from the receptionist (around 50-55 years blond lady). I am sure that he has been more flexible with other things in her live.

Review 12:Just way overcrowded. Noisy busy the whole evening with people stay atstf and people camp around the area. There is no space to sit or relaxin the common area. You'll likely miss your chance to have dinnerif you arrive in the afternoon. The shower facility is a joke for theprice you pay for a night. Very thin wall you absolutely need ear plugsif you want to rest/sleep. People walk in their dirty shoes tocommon area and toilets downstairs so the floors get nasty. There arealways queue for toilets and sinks. Everyone wants to charge theirphones in the common area so forget to charge your camera battery etcunless you try to do that in the middle of the night when everybodyfinally goes to sleep. Don't even think you can rest well aftertiring long walk. If you need some quiet time to chill and privacy, gofind a spot with your own tent.

Review 13:Would appreciate the fact that stf has built such a big hostel in themiddle of nowhere.

Review 14:Aging cottages. Bad ventilation is the bathroom resulting in a permanent bad smell. Wifi in common area only. Poor noise isolation between cottages.

Review 15:The restaurant (awesome breakfast / excellent diner).

Review 16:The place was pretty creaky and you could hear if anyone got up in the night (including the people in the adjoining cabin).

Review 17:Beautiful spot, great views, plenty of space of 5 in the cabin

Review 18:Cabin shower/bathroom was stinky Sauna ended 20.00 local time - that is just wrong. Later - much later expected.

Review 19:Place was near to lake Torneträsk, our plan was to icefish. Cabin was ok, we didn't use much services.

Review 20:It was difficult to drag luggage through the snow. We did not expect to do complete cleaning (rather than tidying up and taking out trash) in order to avoid a cleaning fee. Perhaps this requirement for guests is why the shower and stove top were not entirely clean when we arrived.

Review 21:The beautiful scenery and the spacious, comfortable cabin with windows on three sides. Staff was helpful.

Review 22:The STF facilities were superb - sharing them (e.g. Kitchen in Keron) with some (not all!) of the student parties passing through the place was not a good experience at times.

Review 23:Helpful staff, wonderful winter location, able to hire skis

Review 24:No internet at the cabin

Review 25:We were given a cabin instead of a room in the main building. The hotel compensated us by providing us with dinner during our stay which was great! We loved the cabin.

Review 26:Some people might find it difficult to heave their luggage from the train station to the accommodation which is just a few minutes walk away.

Review 27:We didn't really know what to expect but we were very pleasantly surprised. The chalet was just perfect for 4 people, we rented the linen and paid for the cleaning. Breakfast was good and the lunch was good value. The one evening meal we had was excellent but expensive for the quantity. Abisko is a perfect place to be at one with nature.

Review 28:Opportunities for guided trips and visits was limited to hotel-approved guides and they were limited. The lodge didn't recommend other guides in the area, which meant we weren't able to do certain activities because either there was no guide available or the activity was fully booked.

Review 29:The location was incredible and perfect for seeing the Northern Lights. Everything was easy and accessible, albeit rather expensive. The facilities were nice, and perfect for exploring the area. The staff was helpful.

Review 30:Nothing

Review 31:everything, ive been before and no change. Only disappointment was the change in train times which meant we could not go to Narvik as we did before. That however is not the turistations fault!

Review 32:Can't park the car in front of the cabin and wi-fi was not working well

Review 33:The space, cleanliness, perfect spot to see the northern lights, nice walking trails nearby

Review 34:Bad luck, not able to see the northern lights neither the sky station in Abisko. Mini market with few available food, specially fresh one. To much light in the street that might affect seeing a clear sky from the cottages.

Review 35:Beautiful surroundings / landscape. Good winter activities available, even for beginners. Easy to get there even without a car. Nice and comfortable accommodation (cottage).

Review 36:I found a piece of nail (not from myself) in my bed. The WiFi does not work. The food in the restaurant is good but expensive. The Aurora Sky station visit was replaced by a hot drink in a tippie tent, that's a disappointing and really cheap replacement of the Aurora Sky station visit.

Review 37:I seem to think the owners have missed a trick. This could be a stunning hotel. Wifi did not work for the time during our stay.

Review 38:Great location for Sky Station. Fantastic views. The accomodation was basic but clean and adequately appointed.

Review 39:Staff were very helpful and patient even we kept on asking information about northern light. We had a charlet with a nice kitchen and two bedrooms upstairs. You can see northern light (if it's strong enough) even in the room.

Review 40:The bed linens are for rent and have not written anywhere. I want my money back, why I need to pay 100sek for each?

Review 41:The best place to see northern lights, even better than Kiruna. No light pollution, price is fine. Lots of trekking routes and sights.

Review 42:Unusual to have to rent bed sheets & towel and to have to clean to room, considering the not-so-cheap prices... Wifi didn't work at all for the whole stay.

Review 43:Good position, nice food.

Review 44:Wifi was out of service during my entire stay (3 days), whereas checking aurora forecast is kind of important. Apart from this - it was perfect.

Review 45:The location and facilities are wonderful. There is plenty of space to sit around in the evening - a small library, a living room with a fireplace, The breakfast buffet is truly generous and offers very tasty organic food. There are 2 fully equipped kitchens if you want to cook your meals or a restaurant if you prefer being served. Rooms are simple but comfortable, equipped with a kettle and tea/coffee set. The staff is nice and ready to answer your questions.

Review 46:The accommodation is simple but spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The staff are incredibly helpful and the reception desk is open 24 hours a day to meet all your needs. The dining room offers a range of largely organic food and there are beautiful views from every window.

Review 47:Very small room and the timing of the pick up from kiruna doesn't match the flight timings. Which basically meant we would have had to wait for nearly 5 hours to take the hotel bus to abisko or else take a 1800 kr taxi ride from the airport !!!!

Review 48:Went to abisko in dec'14 to see the northern lights. The staff at the turistation were super friendly and helpful. Helped us plan out our stay and activities for the 3 days we were there and make all the bookings. Also suggested becoming a member which helped us save a fair bit :). Room was small but well heated and comfortable. The hostel had a proper kitchen where we could cook our own meals in case we wanted to give the in house restaurant a miss.

Review 49:Maybe the guides could give more information on wildlife - tracks seen in the snow and how they can tell which animal was just there.

Review 50:Staying in the lodge in the National Park and the proximity to walking trails. The knowledgeable tour guides. The restaurant and food provided.

Review 51:Of course it's expensive since it's in the Scandinavia and up above the arctic circle. Live with it, guys! :)

Review 52:The location itself is amazing, near the train station. The staff are always ready to help! Breakfast is organic which makes it even better. Meeting points of most tours like Lapland and dog sledding is all in this building. Boiling water flask is available in the room. It's amazing what I have experienced compared to some reviews here. I stayed in turiststation hotel building, maybe it's different from the youth hostel.

Review 53:have to clean the cabins yourself food was average out of season the shops and office are not open all the time

Review 54:fantastic location for northern lights nice large sized cabins great kitchen with all utensils you need fireplace and lounges in main building restaurants average has a convenience shop

Review 55:Information is not easily available in their website. We have to email the questions to get them answered (i.e. price of linen and towel)

Review 56:Location is perfect right at the national park for northern light and hikes. The ambiance of the hotel is like being in a ski chalet, comfortable and warm.

Review 57:there's only one common kitchen in another building. a bit inconvenient. check out time is 10:00 which is a little bit too early.

Review 58:relaxing atmosphere and location for northern lights trip. nice staff. room with toilet is spacious.

Review 59:Abisko Turiststation is essentially a monopoly in the area. But this is a good thing as it means that the wilderness is relatively unspoilt, which is the reason you might come to this place. We stayed in a six person cabin, which was basic but clean and well equipped with a kitchen and tables + sofa. The main building has a lovely fireplace, shop and the dining room serves a varying selection of good swedish home cooked food daily.

Review 60:very nice~

Review 61:wifi is very slow!!!

Review 62:Costly

Review 63:Friendly, helpful staff

Review 64:the price for a very simple room

Review 65:good location for hiking

Review 66:It took quite a lot of waiting time to get a response when phoned

Review 67:The response was excellent !

Review 68:great lication

Review 69:Perhaps a little bit too expensive in the restaurant. Small portions.

Review 70:The atmosphere, service, location and hospitality.

Review 71:Checkout was very early. 1000am. The cabin was a bit to cold. It took one day for the janitor to adjust the thermostat.

Review 72:Cheap. Good location

Review 73:Not their fault, but the wife was very very slow.

Review 74:Absolutely wonderful place. Amazing views, can't recommend it enough!

Review 75:no wifi in room

Review 76:location

Review 77:High price accomodation.

Review 78:It 's the best choice for watching aurora.

Review 79:when I was there, the wifi did not work

Review 80:buffet lunch is very good and worth the money

Review 81:Nothing.

Review 82:Everything. I had a perfect stay there. The single room is large, clean and comfy. The whole place is really sweet.

Review 83:The room door shakes every time when the doors of the other rooms were shut.

Review 84:Spacious room. Everything is quite good. We should stay here longer.

Review 85:Location

Review 86:None at all.

Review 87:Very strategic place. Situated in the national park which gives loads of things to do.

Review 88:Wi-Fi only in reception and the houses near reception. Not for all houses.

Review 89:nice staff, big house, hot water and good kitchen.

Review 90:too expensive

Review 91:location aurora borealis !!!! very nice staff, very friendly staff clean

Review 92:I like everything about this hotel!!

Review 93:Nice place and good location

Review 94:No microwawe oven in the cabins...

Review 95:The cabins were ok. good tracks to walk. Quiet and relaxing

Review 96:Cottages were roomy and comfortable. Great location for hiking day trips or beginning or end of trek. The meals in dining room were excellent!

Review 97:We came on the train. Not having a car was a little difficult, bikes would be helpful.

Review 98:We were there between seasons, in May, and it was very quiet! The lake was still frozen but beginning to thaw, and we enjoyed taking short walks. The views are gorgeous, the Kungsledden must be a great hike. The staff were very nice, when they were there. The restaurant was closed for dinner but still served a fabulous breakfast. If I could return, I would do it midsummer or in winter to see the Northern Lights.

Review 99:I just want they can prepare bike for rent or lease as you should walk 2 km for having ,buying necessary item. For solo person by train without car, bike is a good item

Review 100:excellent place i stay on calm period the reception not alway open but enjoy the peaceful period

Review 101:Non-responsive by phone and email. We were delayed by a day due to a train accident and despite our best efforts to contact the Turistation and ensure we were not penalized, our email was not responded to and no-one answered when we called. We were only aware if a partial refund for the sky station being available thanks to someone else. Seemed very unorganized and also unclear who was responsible for what.

Review 102:Can't beat the location.

Review 103:none

Review 104:the hotel is located near train station, near to aurora sky station. There are many activities you can do from the hotel. Excellent breakfast , and great restaurant for lunch and dinner .. Confortable room with coffe/tea facilities.

Review 105:The heater in our room didn't work, but we just talked to reception and they gave us a portable one that worked a treat.

Review 106:Location is perfect for the lights. Get a room facing the lake and you might be able to see them from your bed.

Review 107:The rooms are self-service and you clean them yourselves upon departure. I imagine this usually works fine but the people before us didn't bother. Sheets and towels cost extra, which seems a little unreasonable given how much it costs in the first place. The restaurant service can be slow but they were very busy.

Review 108:The location is fantastic! A short walk from the train station (Abisko Turist not Abisko Ostra) and very close to Abisko canyon, where you can find a frozen river and several frozen waterfalls in the winter season. The lake is also a short walk away and it a great spot for aurora watching. The restaurant food is lovely, although the vegetarian option can be a bit unimaginative considering the cost. We had a twin room with a bunk-bed (queen size bottom bunk big enough for two, plus single top bunk) and we were very comfortable and cosy, not cold at all as you control your own heating.

Review 109:many activities were fully booked long time ago. and far away from the super market, no transportation.

Review 110:very close to the abisko turiststn, easy to find.staff is perfect, helped a lot.

Review 111:Bed linen should be included in the price. I'm aware that some hostels charge or take deposits for linen, but usually those hostels often charge around £15-30 per night not £111 that is my only dissapointment.

Review 112:LOCATION!!! Staff, Activities, Building layout, facilities. Food all super.

Review 113:Sometimes the staff serving as waiters or waitresses didn't seem to have much experience doing this job. Lack of signposts outside!

Review 114:The three course dinners. All the food - amazing! The friendly and helpful staff. Great payment system (easy).

Review 115:I thought the price was a bit high for the rooms, particularly becauseit was off-season. I went in November so none of the tours andactivities had started yet, except for the Lights over LaplandPhotography Tour.

Review 116:The place is very close to the train station. I took a photography tourwith Chad from Lights over Lapland. He works with the guests at AbiskoTuristation so if you want to take the photography tour, this is theplace to stay.

Review 117:It would have been much appreciated if there was a shuttle to the station, even if just for the luggage. Not far, but really difficult with a suitcase in 30cm of snow and very slippery conditions. Us visitors are not used to these conditions and need to take special care not to slip and fall.

Review 118:Friendly and helpful staff. Location is awesome. The view. The peace and quiet.

Review 119:Great place to see the Northern lights, and a nice walk down to the lake from the restaurant. The staff are friendly and the breakfast was really good. The surrounding snow covered mountains kept the sky clear when the weather forecast said it would be cloudy. I would definitely stay there again.

Review 120:I was in Abisko Tourist station and I have been very good !! The kitchen is free and clean, the room little but clean and warm. You can know people from every part of the world, the staff is very friendly and you cand find everything you need in shop center into the Hotel. I think that I'll come back soon !!

Review 121:Expensive supermarket. We booked for 3 persons and one had to sleep on a sofa in the room. The room was cold and the window didn't close in a good way. One night and one morning we didn't have hot water for the shower, kitchen very badly equipped. We paid a lot of money for a very bad service. The reception didn't help us booking a dog sledding tour, very uncompetent. The non sound-proof wall didn't help us sleeping aswell. Well, it didn't worth all that money!

Review 122:Position, the living room

Review 123:Could have done with a microwave.

Review 124:We booked one of the lodges. It slept 4/6 but there were just 2 of us so plenty of room. Good option if you want privecy, and the ability to cook meals rather than pay the resteraunt prices. Nice and warm. Basic but good value.

Review 125:This is a rundown motel for a relative high price (higher than a 4 starhotel in Stockholm and slightly lower than one in Narvik, also 4 star). The front desk told us that the sky station is fully booked and there isno chance that we can go up. We did not believe them and went to the skystation where were let up after 10 minutes. You can walk up also, we metpeople who did that. The restaurant is undersized as you have to standin the line for quite a while to get in at evenings.

Review 126:Good location to watch Aurora

Review 127:There were some problems with the reservation - made on-line was for a different quote that we were later asked for at the station - and at the check out while we already paid in full (or so we were told) upfront. Unnecessary stress just before catching the early morning train.

Review 128:The location, the privacy of the cottages, the ease of access to the beautiful sites (the lake, aurora sky station etc.), the sauna facilities, great views, great atmosphere, rental service was great too

Review 129:as a tourist center it is a bustle of activity every day since it is a starting place for tourists, this means long lines at the reception and the receptionists are worked too hard and become a bit gruff, they are there to inform you not to act as a concierge, and this creates some friction with the guests (i saw a lot), it is important to do your best to be well informed about the various policies about meals and activities and remember that the reception serves a large population of tourists not just the center's guests, they should improve their website to make it easier since it is better to plan ahead online than use the reception desk. during the middle of the day the reception is much more available than during the morning rush. remember to book your dinner before you arrive or each day before 3pm, and remember that by booking you are paying for the meal or activity that you sign up for.

Review 130:very nicely designed facilities, a really nice combination of a tourist center for information but the feeling of a lodge with small rooms for sitting by the fire or reading a book, so many gorgeous views since the lodge is so well situated with views of the lake, many rooms have views, surroundings are spectacular and very convenient for entry into the trails and the skylift, staff are mostly very friendly, very helpful staff at the rental area and shop, renting equipment was easy and we received lots of attention to help orient us. the sky lift was amazing and the staff up there were extremely kind and knowledgable and excited to be with you experiencing the aurora. Abisko itself is a winter wonderland. Gorgeous!

Review 131:Our room was very basic for the price we paid.however, it did haveeverything we needed, eg. Bed reading lamp each, Heated towel rail inthe bathroom,And comfortable beds.We would recommend this place to otherpeople as we did enjoy it there but would warn them not to expect muchin the way of bedrooms. They were just like youth hostel rooms but farmore expensive.

Review 132:Excellent restaurant food. Lunch was very good value at 95 sek. Dinnermore expensive at 375 sek and small portions but plenty of bread andsalad aswell so no need to feel hungry.Certainly all expertly presentedthough. Also, the general friendliness of fellow guests young and oldalike all with the ,'Hunting the Aurora,' agenda.

Review 133:The evening meal was trying to be too exclusive and was not value for money, there was no choice for a lower budget choice of food,

Review 134:Breakfast was good value and lots of choice, good access to the sky station to cable car and the viewing the norther lights

Review 135:At the restaurant there isn't a menu à la carte, but only afixed menu.

Review 136:Beautiful location! The cabins are perfect for a group of friendor a family.

The Fine Print

Please note that the restaurant is closed from 1 May until 10 June 2016. No meal services are available during this time.Kindly observe that ski rental must be booked in advance. Contact details are found in the booking confirmation.
