Reviews for Abbeydale Hotel and Restaurant

Review 1:Not near the football ground as the ground has moved.

Review 2:Very friendly staff and a warm welcome. I felt very much at home even though this was my first stay.

Review 3:It's a bit far from the city center, surrounded by nothing buthomes. For the price I paid, it should have been much more convenientlylocated. Wifi did not work in the room.

Review 4:The room was lovely and the bathroom had proper plumbing and fixtures.

Review 5:Very smelly room (one of them). Terrible sewer smell the entire time. Small bed for 2 people. No bath, only shower. Thin walls so noise could be an issue.

Review 6:The owners are everything. Such wonderful people (but business has now sold to new owners). Nice decor. Lovely breakfast. Good location to hiking and Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and about an hour from Lyme Park. Worth the drive.

Review 7:No complaints.

Review 8:Else and Finn were extremely welcoming and friendly, and made us feel at home. The food was great, and the option of having dinner was an added bonus!

Review 9:There was nothing we didn't like!

Review 10:The cleanliness of the Hotel was exceptional. Owners were very friendly and made our stay very welcomed! Breakfast was superb! Will certainly book & visitagsin.

Review 11:Owners were very helpful and friendly. Excellent parking facilities. Lovely breakfast. slept well. Easy walking distance to Chesterfield Centre and Market.

Review 12:The Wi-Fi connection was not great. It was hit and miss whether you could get internet connection. It seems to differ as to where in the Hotel you are. Our bedroom, not good area. I was given help from Else to connect by cable, but not any better. Not good for business people .Did`nt spoil our holiday, it was very enjoyable.

Review 13:Everything was great , and Fin and Else went out of there way to make our stay special on our wedding anniversary with a lovely evening meal.

Review 14:Not a dislike but would be helpful to include wifi code in instruction book and also include that diners need to reserve in advance.

Review 15:Clean and comfortable.

Review 16:Very friendly staff that were happy to share their knowledge of the local area. The message that I sent when making my booking was acted upon. The menu choice for breakfast was great.

Review 17:Some noise from adjoining room could be heard on occasions otherwise no other criticisms

Review 18:Close to centre of town, excellent off street car parking, nice breakfast, very pleasant owners and staff

Review 19:The bedroom was OK, however the bathroom was very small, if I were a large person I would have struggled to get inside never mind move around. The shower was poor in the fact that water pressure very low, hardly any hot water from the washbasin tap. Could have done with a larger television

Review 20:Very clean. Very good breakfast service

Review 21:Is's a great place to stay. The owners are delightful people, always ready to help and advice you whatever you need!! The rooms are nice and the food is great (both at breakfast and at dinner). Close to the town center, pubs and restaurants just a few minutes by foot.

Review 22:The only thing I might mention is the driveway - which [due to a 'bump']catches the bottom of one's car.

Review 23:The location, the general standard of everything, service etc. The breakfast was superb. A very efficient hotel.

Review 24:Excellent location, quiet location near to town centre, free car park, very helpful staff and first class breakfast in lovely dining room, A gem of a place !

Review 25:It's a bit out if the town centre, bur very quiet. The wifi was dicey.

Review 26:The very friendly staff and comfortable accommodations were an excellent value for money. The full English breakfast was perfectly cooked

Review 27:Coming home.

Review 28:This hotel was fantastic for me and my mate who went hiking in the peak district for the day. great owners so friendly and made us feel so welcome, we will definitely be back very soon!

Review 29:A bit noisy from other rooms with creaking floorboard and walls slightly too thin!

Review 30:Convenient for town centre. Friendly hosts, spotlessly clean, good breakfast, comfortable if compact room. Free parking and WiFi.

Review 31:Welcome polite and efficient but slightly cool. Advertised 'restaurant' was not open as we had not pre-booked a meal and owners a bit hazy about where else in town to eat. Bath 'hot' lukewarm in mid-evening. Poor loo flush in our en suite. Shower head spay thin and needed descaling. Shower height and trajectory hard to adjust. No full-length clothes hanging cupboard.

Review 32:Hotel very clean and well equipped. Beatifully cooked full English breakfast.

Review 33:Nothing bad, single rooms are what they are, compact and bijoux, if you want bigger, book bigger. :-)

Review 34:Owners are delightful, food is excellent, facilities very clean. Location is far enough from town for peace and tranquility, but close enough to walk.

Review 35:The awful attitude of the owner when my wife tried to explain that thedirt that had been trodden through the reception area and into the hotelwas not of her doing. This ended up in the slamming of the reception doorinto the kitchen area by "mine host".My wife managed to speakto his wife which resulted in him coming out to see us in the car parkin a way I could only explain as confrontational.I Then tried to reasonwith this man who completely lost the plot became very insulting andstormed off back into his hotel. I could mention other matters whichwere not condusive to polite management guest relations but will letthem pass. From our own point of view this was a man who needs toundergo an anger management course.

Review 36:Very clean

Review 37:The beds were hard and the room was hot. Expensive for what we received. Stayed in the Hilton in London for less.

Review 38:It was a great place to meet up with a friend for an evening. The meal was excellent but a little pricey.

Review 39:The hotel is petite with a lovely warm welcome to it. Allicia welcomed us with a very professional manner. The lay out of the hotel is lovely and clean. Our room was warm and inviting. Jo's service in the resturant was fab, she worked so hard to make it so perfect for us. Wonderful lady with a great personality.

Review 40:The lounge could do with some updating to make it more inviting and comfortable.

Review 41:Egg-cellant breakfast! Very comfortable bed. Lovely and warm hotel and of course Finn and Else were very good hosts Close to town - within walking distance of some very good pubs

Review 42:The kitchen closes to early for business men who arrive late in the evening. I arrived at 20 p.m. and the food was finished. I had to look for a restaurant in the city, which hasn't been so easy, because of English dinner hours...I only found a TAI Restaurant open at 21pm.

Review 43:Hosts very lovely. Clean room, good breakfast.

Review 44:Nada

Review 45:The warmth and comfort of the hotel and the staff. Else and Finn friendly without being intrusive - everyone courteous. It is obvious that much thought and care is put into the running of this hotel. Loved the food -miss the breakfasts

Review 46:Paid for a double room for the double bed . But was two single beds pushed together. With the single beds being soft it was quite an uncomfortable night.

Review 47:Welcome was friendly and courteous .

Review 48:Staff were helpful and friendly. Very nice breakfast. Close to town centre and local pubs. Our room was well appointed, clean and although small, perfectly sufficient.

Review 49:There was nothing negative about our stay at Abbeydale Hotel.

Review 50:Reception, our comfortable room, en-suite bathroom and breakfast all surpassed our best expectations! One of the nicest and cleanest B&B hotels we have ever stayed in. This includes many in Sweden we have stayed (smorgasborg style frukost which are fantasic) and also South Africa where we enjoyed some of the best and cleanest acommodation. Thanks. Michael & Jean Whybrow Norfolk Thank you.

Review 51:Wish I could have stayed lbger than 1 night, not the hotel's fault of course!

Review 52:Else and Finn are the perfect hosts. The hotel is in a quiet setting but only a short distance from the town. The room was tastefully decorated and the bed was too comfortable, didn't want to get up!

Review 53:Small friendly hotel run by the owners. Simple menu very well cooked and some nice wines. Close to a very good real ale pub. A real find and will use it again.

Review 54:NOTHING

Review 55:The reception when we got there was very good and pleasant, the meals were really good and wholesome.Information and directions for a day out was very good. .

Review 56:The bathroom we had was very narrow which made it a little uncomfortable to use in certain circumstances, and the position of the door was a little impractical. As the hotel was nearly fully occupied at the time of our stay, the car parking was also insufficient to hold all of the hotel's guests off road.

Review 57:The location was very convenient, and it was quiet overnight which enabled a good night's sleep. Breakfast service was quick and efficient with a good choice. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Review 58:Nothing really....just our shower room was a bit small...but not to much of a problem ...

Review 59:This was the second time we have stayed at the Abbeydale & we were not disappoint ...spotlessly clean... Friendly hosts..good choice at breakfast & good location 10 min walk into Chesterfield we stayed two nights on Thursday they is a huge Antique / flea market would recommend ...the market tavern do great meals may have to book...

Review 60:I only have one lil issue when staying at The Abbydale Hotel. Be careful of the hidden bar charges added at the of your stay.My sister and I purchased our own wine, whilst shopping during the day. Once back at the hotel a kind member of bar staff offered to chill our bottle for later that eve and we accepted. However on our last evening there and only because that member of staff was alone, my sister and I thought we would pop down to the bar for afew drinks to chat with her. We had a cuple of drinks each whilst chatting for approx an hour. Over £12.00 was added to my bill for that service.

Review 61:My sister and I had a pleasant stay at The Abbeydale Hotel. We found it a very clean and tidy hotel, with very pleasant and helpful staff. Breakfast, no complaints there either. We where even allowed to choose our own room upon arrival. Though we wouldnt wont to base in Chesterfeild again, we would however be happy to stay at this hotel again.

Review 62:This is an amazing small Hotel. The hosts Elsa and Finn were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. The breakfasts are lovely. There is a fabulous menu for evening meals. All the food is sourced locally by Finn and cooked to a very high standard. The rooms are spotless with lovely on-suites free wifi and little touches like bottled water chocolates and toiletries. The hotel is 5 mins walk from the town centre. Other areas of interest are a short drive away. Finn and Elsa will help you plan your trip with their local knowledge. We have stayed at many hotels across the country ranging from 3-5star. This little gem of a hotel was one of the very best we have stayed in.

Review 63:The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. My single room comfortable, clean and was well equipped with all the usual things you would expect. The hotel restaurant served a range of traditional, tasty foods. Service and food quality were excellent. I was able to store my bike securely over night and the hotel staff got it out of storage for me whilst I ate breakfast without me needing to ask.

Review 64:Else & Finn the owners are very welcoming & make you feel at home, and the food ( evening meal & breakfast) are of an excellent quality. The bed in my room was really comfy & I had 3 good night's sleep.

Review 65:nothing at all

Review 66:our hosts else and finn were very welcoming and nothing seemed to much trouble for them.breakfasts were very good, rooms were clean and tidy so all in all an excellent choice of hotel

Review 67:bathroom a bit small. Shame no baths in rooms.

Review 68:bedroom comfortable, lovely breakfast. Easy walk into town. Helpful owners. It was great to be able to park at hotel.

Review 69:Superb hosts, warm welcome on arrival, we felt like home not in hotel! Mouthwatering breakfast, recommend anyone to stay if want to visit Peak District

Review 70:Only stayed one night, a Saturday, so was surprised the restaurant was closed, walked into town and had a bar meal. Managed to connect to the wifi in the hotel but for some reason no internet access was available.

Review 71:The standard of the room and the breakfast was very good. The hotel is located less than 10min walk from the town centre and there is parking at the hotel.

Review 72:Unfortunately there were no restaurant meals available this was apparently on the website. I did not find this on the website. Nor was it mentioned when it booked. The host was very apologetic. Did not spoil the stay.

Review 73:The hotel was very clean and we would recommend it,

Review 74:Would have liked a little more room in bathroom and given the option a bath as well as shower or shower over bath. Struggled to get reception on tv but this didn't bother us as we were out and about. That is just being picky really, we found everything very satisfactory.

Review 75:The friendliness of the owners and staff and the bright, clean rooms with comfortable beds and plenty of storage, mirrors and plug sockets. Extra pillows if needed. Tea and coffee with chocolates and biccies and water which was a nice touch. The added information pack in room which suggested that if you needed anything they would gladly help you out. This included borrowing an iron or having the paper delivered to your room and room service if required, nice little touches.

Review 76:There was nothing to dislike.

Review 77:The friendly welcome, the comfortable room. the excellent breakfast. The owners made me feel very at home. Thank you for an enjoyable stay.

Review 78:Nothing, even a little walking from the city centre was great in my opinion. Mind that there are no elevator, but Finn was very helpful to take my bags upstairs , so it wasn't problem for me.

Review 79:This was my most favourite hotel during my last England visit - the type of hotel where you could feel yourself in old England but with all privileges of modern time such as excellent wifi) What make this charming small place even more wonderful? The hosts - Finn & Else, who are really welcoming and friendly. Will definetly be back somewhen, as the Chesterfield and surroundings worth a visit and have a wonderful atmosphere (don't miss Crooked Tower in the city centre, lively market, also the buses quite easyly could afford a visit to Chatsworth and other gems of Peak District).

Review 80:Could have done with black out curtains as morning sun woke me up. Poor WiFi signal and protected with password was inconvenient as u couldn't use internet immediately.

Review 81:Staff extremely helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was lovely, check out time was great so u didn't have to rush around to pack before breakfast.

Review 82:Finn and Else were excellent hosts. Very nice breakfast. Only stayed on the Sunday night, so didn't get chance to sample dinner. We were given good advice on local restaurants and pubs, but a bit of our own advance research had revealed an excellent micropub within a short walk.

Review 83:It was extremely noisy and our guys who were working locally had to complain about noise throughout the night. It did not live up to expectations as a pleasant place to stay.

Review 84:We Accidentally left the door open at the front and a member of staff at the bar gave us a rood comment. This would put most guest off from returning to the hotel. But we tried to ignore it.

Review 85:The friendly service of most of the staff. Rooms were nice.

Review 86:Great location only a short walk to the town centre, friendly staff. Nice clean hotel and enjoyable breakfast. Would definitely recommend and use again.
