Reviews for The Wight Bay Hotel
Review 1:Friendly welcome. Comfortable room with modern facilities. Absurdly good value. Some people have commented about dated decor but it's all in good condition and gives it a certain charm.
Review 2:When I got there it was close to 11pm, I did ring early that day to advise I would be getting there late - however when I got to hotel, it didn't seem to be open strangely the door was closed, I thought oh no Luckily a couple were going into, they let me in, I had to wait for manager to give me my room key. Wasn't best pleased, he said there was a mobile no. on the door I didn't see any number/ notice on hotel door!
Review 3:It was ok - staff were friendly when they were there! Didn't see manager apart from the night I got there, didn't see any one else either! Was nice to have breakfast included in the price, that was a plus! Cheers
Review 4:Service in dining room was rather slow. We had to wait up to 35 minutes for a main course and 15/20 for desert.
Review 5:Hotel was well located spotlessly clean staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food was excellent.
Review 6:The room was being cleaned before we had checked out and the bags were still in the room
Review 7:The hotel was clean and value for money The staff were happy to help Towels ,bedding etc were spotless Meal in the evening was value for money
Review 8:Booked 7 rooms with group of work colleagues. Very clean, warm room with good shower. Helpful, professional staff. Large rooms, very good breakfast and overall excellent value for money. I would recommend.
Review 9:I would have liked a bit more info from the lady when we checked in. She gave us our keys and told us where our room was but I had to ask about breakfast, and for her to show us where to the bar/dining room was. We didn't realise there was a (small) car park until the last day and parked on the street all weekend. I feel little things like these should be mentioned when you check in. Checking out was painful too as there was no one around to take our key and we were in a rush for a ferry! We went on the off season though, so it's understandable that they might have had a smaller number of staff working.
Review 10:The wifi in our room was great (particularly as the Island seemed terrible for phone signal and 4G). Our room was very clean and well presented. The towels were great quality and a good size too. We were on the top floor and had a lovely seaview despite all the rain! There are lots of steps though so top floor might not be best for elderly guests. The breakfast was good. The shower was powerful, but made a lot of noise.
Review 11:The shower may have been hot,may have been warm but it was always a trickle.Because of my wife's asthma we were unable to take our sea view room on the top floor due to hotel having no lift .
Review 12:The size of room was very good &hot breakfasts gave a good selection.
Review 13:Finding that we were unable to use the shower in our room [the attachment of shower to shower pole was smashed, & shower head would not stay at height] , we asked to be moved to a room with a working shower. We were told that this was not possible. Our room on the second floor was tiny in the extreme [we suspect a single room with a small double crammed in], with broken, unusable drawers. We reported the 'fault' twice but were ignored. We again reported the shower issue to the Deputy Manager on checking out, & he told us that this was an island & faults take time to be fixed. I was stunned that he, at no point considered moving us to a room with a working shower. He explained that the hotel was waiting for a complete refurb, but did not seem to think that the fact we had paid for a room with a shower & didn't get one, was a valid complaint. we left feeling very frustrated.
Review 14:location was good. Breakfast also good.
Review 15:room we was in was poorly maintained. ground floor no net curtains. very poor amerturish diy repairs in evidence. Plastic shower cubicle. very small tv. furniture tired. No smoking area outside provided.
Review 16:room price was ok. hotel was clean.
Review 17:Its the first time that some one has semi-cleaned the room while I was having breakfast on the day that I was checking out. Water pressure and size of shower ... disappointing.
Review 18:Close to the Town centre and sea front.
Review 19:The hotel was dated, could really do with being bought into the 21st century!
Review 20:The hotel was lovely and clean, value for money was spot on! Breakfast buffet was nice!had a lovely visit thank you.
Review 21:We stayed in the wight bay hotel for 3 nights with our little daughter, I booked a double room with a child cot on, however, after check-in I requested a bigger room. The receptionist spoke to the manager who has kindly accepted to allocate us into a family room without charging us any extra money. Also the staff were really helpful and kind to us. Every day the staff were very kind to make hot milk for our little daughter both in the morning and in the evening. Full breakfast was served and it was very nice. Usually they say it will be served till 9 am, however, they were kind to serve us even after 9 am. it was very good value for money. We would like to go back again. Thanks to all at Wight bay hotel :)
Review 22:At the first night there was noise we could not sleep . In the morning while I am taking my shower suddenly the water stopped and I kept waiting for ten minutes for the water to return back. They changed the room. The second day when I am about to sleep I have been bitten in all over my body I kept itching and there are browsing in all over my body and because there are no staf at reception from 5 pm I slept on the floor on that day because there are some thing in the bed bitten my body. The next day I complain and they changed the room again but that day I was very very tired from not sleeping for two days. And our vacation was for three days it is been ruined from what I suffer. The hotel is not good for children. My children was not happy.
Review 23:The staff is friendly
Review 24:no lifts for elderly in 1st ans second floor. no phones in room, no list of emergency numbers in rooms.
Review 25:really good staff really good food music good but could have done with different styles on other evenings. location first class.
Review 26:Fantastic value for money, great breakfast included in room rate and staff cannot do enough for you, rooms not massive or 5 star but clean and comfortable, easy access to sandown town and beach.
Review 27:The staff couldn't do enough for you. They are doing things to improve the hotel and that is evident . Very clean we had an excellent evening meal there. We will go back there .
Review 28:Breakfast a bit hit and miss, the early bird got the worm the later you were the less you got. Could do with a little overseeing
Review 29:Very clean and very good housekeeping
Review 30:Very very old decor, rough around the edges and generally very dated. Walls are paper thin so noise was a particular problem. Surprised at other peoples reviews as we would not stay here again.
Review 31:The location of the hotel.
Review 32:No complaints.
Review 33:We were pleasantly surprised the hotel is very clean and we'll run ,the staff are very efficient and helpfull ,the food in the restaraunt was really nice and the menu changes daily ,our thanks to all the staff and to the manager Peter for making our stay a good experience ,we will definitely be coming back.
Review 34:we had to pay for three nights but were only staying for two as it was the bank holiday, at £240.00 for two nights made it very expensive, luckily we didn't want to watch the telly in the room, I have a bigger screen on a laptop than that :-(, shower wasn't very good.
Review 35:Breakfast was a buffet style so you could eat as much or as little as you liked, rooms were kept clean daily, bed was comfy and its close to the beach, sea front and shops.
Review 36:Low water pressure in the shower. But I was assured it was to be fixed in a future project.
Review 37:Clean, with friendly staff. adequate breakfasts. overall good value
Review 38:Comfortable, old-world charm. Excellent location just two minutes from the pier and high street. Very good breakfast with lots of choice. Free parking.
Review 39:The staff were very polite and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was bigger than I thought and so was our room. We had a family room with a double and two singles. Very spacious room. The décor was not so good. Very shabby wallpaper and carpets but the staff more than made up for it. Polite staff and clean rooms are far more important than new wallpaper and designer furniture.
Review 40:would have liked breakfast to have been available for a little longer as it finnished at 9am on weekdays
Review 41:3 mins walk from lovely beach and pier.friendly staff nice breakfast just right for grandma and two grandchildren age7 and10.we were also in walking distance of zoo and dinasuor isle which took abouthalf an hour at a stroll.also on main bus route as we dont have a car.
Review 42:There was no one on reception when we came in? One guest went behind the counter to get someone else key, so not great security. No internet in bedrooms and this is where you need it! The hotel was busy but couldn't get a drink or sandwich at 2.30pm so had to go out in the pouring rain after a long drive!
Review 43:Breakfast was good.
Review 44:The view from our groundfloor room was of empty cooking oil containers and pigeon droppings. We pointed this out when checking out and the woman said that the containers should have been round the corner and not in view, hardly the best solution. The hotel matched Sandown itself, they would both benefit from some investment, they are both tired looking.
Review 45:The best thing about our stay would have to be the hotel staff, although not working in the best of places they were friendly and polite
Review 46:Noise from I think the cooking vent once breakfast commenced. Think noise was heard because of location of room to kitchen.
Review 47:Helpful staff: Room clean Breakfast good. Obliging staff ready to assist.
Review 48:No Wifi, though I didn't ask, it wasn't obvious. The hotel and decor is a bit old fashioned
Review 49:but it was clean, the staff were positive and freindly. A nice seaside hotel a short, very short, walk from all that on offer in Sandown.
Review 50:Poor WiFi signal in the room where we stays (ground floor). The TV is just too small for the size of the room. No toiletries provided.
Review 51:Very nice breakfast. Clean and comfortable room overall. Good location. Good customer service
Review 52:I was pleasantly surprised. The room was great, bed linen spotless. Complementary toiletries in bathroom. Service everyday. Breakfast buffet excellent &plenty of choice. Manager & staff very polite & helpful.situated close to beach. Good value for money.
Review 53:Could do with a bit of modernising. Not that there was anything wrong! just a bit like stepping back in time a few years.
Review 54:Very Clean. Friendly staff. When we stayed there was a number groups older than ourselves. They were lovely and were really good and welcoming with our little kids. Lovely beach just down the road.
Review 55:A bit further from the sea front than expected. The dining room only ran well when Simon & or his wife were present, on other days food often ran out, nobody asked what you wanted eg tea or coffee, you were very much left to fend for yourself. Corridor carpets looking very tired. Pigeons cooing outside our window.
Review 56:Simon & his wife were very friendly, and helpful. Very comfy beds & pillows.Plenty of space for clothes.Tea & coffee making in room. Smart dining room with linen tablecloths, good breakfast.
Review 57:Room with sea view - sea view just possible if you lean out of the window. Only standard sized double bed, room small. Breakfast advertised as starting at 7.30, eventually let in at 8am
Review 58:Location, short walk to some good eating places
Review 59:A Room With A Bath Would Of Been Easier With A Baby But We Can't Have It All, I Also Fought The Shower Was Great Nust Needed To Be A Little More Powerful But Overall Can't Complain.
Review 60:The Staff Were Excellent, Very Helpful, It's The Small Details Which Made The Difference , The Fact They Were Willing To Help With Our Luagge And Feel The Baby Sterliser With Water Every Day Was Amamzing :-) Can't Thank Them Enough :-)
Review 61:Having to leave!
Review 62:Everything, from the moment we arrived the staff could not have been more helpful. The room was comfortable, clean and looked after every day by the pleasant staff. Breakfast had everything you could wish to eat, and the staff in the dining room were very helpful and polite.
Review 63:When it's hot, you'll like an air conditioning in the room, in our family room it wasn't there. You have to know the wifi is only at reception, and in the bar.
Review 64:It 's a nice location 3 min walk to the beach, friendly staff, good value for money (if you can get a family room (4p) for £100 pn) It is a bit outdated, but I don't mind.
Review 65:Only criticism is of the free wi-fi. The connection was fast but not available in many parts of the hotel. For instance, in our room we could only connect from right next to the door. This could be a relatively cheap fix using boosters.
Review 66:Sea view. Excellent breakfast. Very close to sea front and shops. Staff very helpful.
Review 67:The only thing that was a down side to the hotel was that there was only wifi downstairs and was still quite poor to use in the bar/dining area.
Review 68:This was the first time me and my partner had gone away together on our own since we've been together so we haven't got much to compare it to, but for a 2 star hotel, we thought it was fab. Amazing location, couple of minutes walk from the beach. Room was so nice, and we have a lovely little sea view too! & the breakfast was perfectly cooked! Would definitely say was worth our money, and we would be more than happy to return!
Review 69:Nothing bad to say.
Review 70:Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was very god in the morning, and our 5 year old son loved it. Location is also excellent for seafront and pier.
Review 71:The bed although very clean & reasonable comfortable, would benefit the use of a mattress topper. I did sleep well, but felt the springs a bit.
Review 72:This hotel is excellent, very comfortable, unimposing, clean & very friendly, typical seaside hotel. Extra pillows found in the wardrobe & the buffet breakfast was very good.
Review 73:At peak breakfast time queues waited for lots of items to be replenished, while the rest of their meal started to get cold. Wifi in rooms would be good in the future.
Review 74:Very clean. Friendly staff and good quality breakfast. Free wifi in public areas.
Review 75:Sandown is a dead place , not a place to walk and enjoy the beach at night. Hotel general area looked tired and old .must be fit to climb narrow stairs to the top rooms
Review 76:Clean room with lovely sea and coast view , but you need to be at the second floor to see the view. Great breakfast and very polite and helpful staff and management.
Review 77:The rooms are a little tired but were very clean. The shower was a little temptimental and the lack of WIFI in the rooms.
Review 78:The manager was extremely helpful. Breakfast was good value and as it was Buffett style you could eat as much as you wanted. They do have an option of a three course evening meal but we chose to eat in Sandown which has a variety of restaurants.
Review 79:No lift or ramp to go in the room, however staff help you to carry your luggage into the room.
Review 80:Nice hotel at very good location and true value for Money. You can drop your baggage after checkout and take back while returning.
Review 81:Peaceful hotel with very friendly staff and good service. Full English breakfast and dinner menu is very ample. Most people were 60+, but still plenty of young mature couples. Hot water always, rooms cleaned every day.
Review 82:The breakfast was a little disappointing as they where only putting out a little at a time which led to lots of people having to wait for slow staff the refill. But was nice when it arrived.
Review 83:Lovely hotel and right next to the pier. Staff where nice and the rooms had everything I could ask for (including a super soft bed).
Review 84:We were waiting for nearly 2 hours for our room which I booked 1 week in advance, they could not find my reservation, after 1 and half hours of waiting, we got the room but I discovered the next day that they charged me twice!
Review 85:There was not much to not like about the hotel.
Review 86:Friendly Staff, The reception was very friendly when we arrived and through out the whole staff we only had good service from the staff. That they were accomating in moving one of our party that has issues climbing stairs to a room on the ground floor
Review 87:Bed quilt stained on arrival also dirty curtains, stayed 3 nights onlyhad breakfast once due to being told im not allowed to sit on a tableeven though this was not reserved, also hotel had no sign up outside.
Review 88:The hotel is right next to beach
Review 89:Breakfast time was hectic. Only two people serving for a whole dining room. No cups, plates, serviette or cutlery set on the table. We had to find out own sets from wherever we could find them! It took ages to get coffee, milk and sugar served. Lack of staff.
Review 90:Walking distance to the beach
Review 91:There is literally nothing negative to say.
Review 92:Welcome on arrival, and everyday of our stay we were greeted and asked how our day had been. Staff extremely helpful manager even printed a train time schedule for us. We would especially like to thank Ollie as he was a very hard working and friendly. The breakfast on both mornings of our stay was lovely. The bad reviews on this hotel are not to be taken notice of. As our stay was fab. We had a great time at the hotel and the isle of Wight. Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying on the isle of Wight, thank you.
Review 93:Breakfast was adequate but there was a bit of a wait in between keeping the buffet topped up, fruit was served with yogurt but it was fruit cocktail out of. Jar which we found a bit bizarre, but as stated it was adequate, hot and the restaurant was clean.
Review 94:The staff had a bit of a task on their hands with the Number of guests that had booked in And the ratio balance - Oli the member of staff that checked us in was really friendly, polite and helpful, also with young children he really made an effort to fulfil all requests.
Review 95:Evening Meal - staff will not serve anyone until every guest is in the restaurant. Breakfast is like a free for all. The breakfast "staff" were quite happy to stand around moaning about their work and moving guests from table to table. Would've complained to management but never around when you wanted them!
Review 96:We were put downstairs next to the store room and the laundry room. The staff were very noisy first thing in the morning. We were told along with other Booking.com visitors that we could only be seated at the far side of the room as the private guests had the choice of the window seats. I was quite annoyed by these constant remarks. There was plenty of room by and near the long row of windows in the dining room but we were told there was no way we would be allowed to sit anywhere near this area.
Review 97:I was forced to wait in the car for an hour to check in as the receptionist was helping with dinner. The shower had no pressure and was blocked and the wifi didn't work, I was on a business trip so this caused major problems.
Review 98:Checking out
Review 99:On the website it said about free wifi but we weren't able to pick it up anywhere in our room. We also felt that the breakfast could've ran for a little longer as we went for the festival and didn't fancy getting up at 7.30am when we didn't get back until 1.30am.
Review 100:The hotel itself is lovely, very clean and has all the mod cons. Staff are friendly too. Breakfast was delicious.
Review 101:The Hotel possibly needs updating, however the literature suggests that they are doing just that. I am sure next year it will be fantastic
Review 102:The location and staff were excellent.
Review 103:Wifi is not available in the rooms, only in common areas.
Review 104:The staff were really lovely and helpful. Great service. Good breakfast. The hotel decor is a bit dated but they are looking to refurbish.Would definitely go back the next time I'm in the Isle of Wight.
Review 105:The room we booked was unavailable. We were offered another, but we didn't like it. The staff were helpful and found us another one.
Review 106:We liked the room, facilities and lovely breakfast. The location was spot on too.
Review 107:Would've liked clean towels daily, like you get in all other B & B's. Maybe an evening meal would be ideal
Review 108:Staff very friendly. Breakfasts were great. Rooms were neat and comfy. Would love to return there, but the dates I've chosen fully booked.
Review 109:No entertainment no bar in evings and I think there should be a member of staff at desk at all times
Review 110:Staff very friendly breakfast very nice rooms clean
Review 111:Wi-fi is only available in the public areas on the ground floor. Noisy floor and bed.
Review 112:Very close to the Sandown pier. Great breakfast. Friendly staff.
Review 113:The only inconvenience was the wi-fi. It need to upgrade on it.
Review 114:We had stayed before in Holiday Inn and to be honest I have found The Wight Bay Hotel not less but in fact far better then Holiday Inn in every aspect and it definitly deserves more stars. Friendly staffs and helpful manager whose name I again forgot. Also, I would definitly recommend my other friends.
Review 115:No lift but they are refurbishing and lift will be put in
Review 116:All the staff were very friendly and helpful beds were comfortable breakfast was very good hotel and rooms very clean would stay again
Review 117:Walk to the beach
Review 118:The staff couldn't do enough for you, they are currently doing the hotel up ATM so when this is all finished the hotel will be lovely.
Review 119:The wi-fi connection was non existent in the rooms.
Review 120:Staff were very helpful and polite, Hotel was very clean. Room was spacious, clean and pleasant. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 121:Bar was not open after 9pm.and front door was locked after 9pm they said it was quite but did say next door hotel we could use.no garden or entertainment.
Review 122:Staff were very friendly rooms were clean and comfortable location ideal for beach and bus stop across the road
Review 123:Wi-Fi only in reception area Very thin walls, can hear everything No bathroom products provided
Review 124:Free breakfast buffet Friendly staff Good value for money Close to the sea
Review 125:NOTHING
Review 126:All members of staff very helpful and friendly, manager could not have been more helpful. rooms clean, comfortable and tidy.Breakfast was fantastic,we will be returning.
Review 127:Wifi was not great but the hotel is working on making this better for the future.
Review 128:Location was brilliant and the service was great. Breakfast was fantastic.
Review 129:The room lacked some hangers in the bathroom. The room was next to reception without any additional door, although there was enough space in the room to install one. The furniture need some reorganisation, the coffee table was in the corridor towards the bathroom almost outside the room. Also a bit more space for hanging things and a table for writing would be an improvement.
Review 130:Quiet room in a convenient location, good that there was no live entertainment until 11:00 pm. Nice pub in-house. English breakfast buffet with some continental touch.
Review 131:Great hotel, good price. Spotlessly clean with a warm welcome from the young man at reception. Not to far to walk to the shops, restaurants and beach
Review 132:only slight difficulty was limited parking - on returning to hotel late at night the small car park was full and we had to drive around streets to find a space to park
Review 133:the room was very comfortable wit a lovely sea view. Staff were friendly and helpful
Review 134:been able to hear everyone walk pass our room at night , some people had no consideration for others
Review 135:breakfast was very good and room was spacious for a family
Review 136:We booked a family room for 2 adult and a child. I found staff not friendly and not approachable. We never was able to use wifi internet since there was no signals. Having less 4G and 3G signals on our mobile in isle of wight, we were heavily banked on hotels wifi but unfortunately WIFI never worked in room. It only worked around main hotel reception. When ask by a staff they reply ''that's how it is'' I found this very unhelpful and rude. Toiletries were very cheap and in less in quantity. They never replenish their Toiletries so if you stay in for 3 days you had to survive in 2 tiny soup and 5 ml of shower gel. Thanks to lovely sight seeing of isle of wight which made our holiday memorable.
