Reviews for Alliance Lille - Couvent Des Minimes

Review 1:The shower temperature contoll which did not work properly

Review 2:We liked The spacious bedroom suite. The glassed roofed cloisters area to dine and relax in. The excellent breakfasts and Christmas lunch

Review 3:Having previously had rooms on the first or second floors, you would naturally assume that going to the third floor was a reward, unfortunately not, the corridors and bedrooms are extremely tired and fit well into a 2 star hotel, these are supposed to be "Superior" rooms - NOT!!

Review 4:We have used this hotel several times over recent years and find the location, staff and quality of food to be first class.

Review 5:They charge €4 for a tiny bottle of water but then make you use a new bar of soap each day.....very wasteful (and costly) in an environmently aware age!! Shame you cannot book parking, it's a bit hit and miss. The shower was an interesting design, there was no way of keeping the water from leaking onto the floor, odd!!

Review 6:A very relaxing atmosphere in a beautiful hotel.... the staff were friendly and the room clean and tastefully decorated. Only a few minutes walk to middle of town so ideal location.

Review 7:The bed was hard as a rock. Also getting a casual drink in the lobby will cost you 10 bucks for a glass of simple wine. There's lots of sketchy people hanging around the street of the hotel, would not feel safe for girls.

Review 8:The room was clean and quiet, close to the park with zoo and easy to walk into the centre.

Review 9:in the superior room there were supposed to be slippers. there were not. I asked upon arrival to the room and I am still waiting... Also staff at the sitting bar rather scarce..

Review 10:location

Review 11:I didn't appreciate that the only window I had gave on the covered main court, with the bar and restaurant. No fresh air inlet was possible and I felt I had to keep the curtains closed at all times. The room was ok, but much smaller then I expected and it had no decoration at all on the walls (renovation not finished ?)

Review 12:The quiet location, the historic building, the spacious marbeled bathroom and the (paid) parking next to the hotel

Review 13:On arrival (this time) they told us our room was unusable, and we would have to go to another hotel! We had used the hotel about six times previously.

Review 14:we have stayed at this hotel before and enjoyed it but this time we were put in room 119 which is immediately above the kitchen and more importantly the air conditioning unit or whatever a generator was being used for the noise was 24 hours non stop and in consequence i left on saturday absolutely drained of energy with a 7 hour journey ahead of me i know that i amm not the first to complain about 119 nor the last i paid a lot of money to come to your hotel and for a seventy year old it was supposed to be a treat for my wife and i instead in turned into a nightmare the hotel was full so no other rooms were available

Review 15:There was still a lot of hair in the bath and at breakfast there was green moldy and rotten fruit in the fruit bowl. I can't believe they don't see that.

Review 16:Very friendly staff

Review 17:Rather poor breakfast.

Review 18:Excellent restaurant and very convenient location (with private parking). Our room (ground floor) was very clean and comfortable but requires massive renovation.

Review 19:Atrocious wifi. Breakfast is excellent, but expensive, so make sure you're hungry for breakfast or it's probably not worth the 19 euros per person.

Review 20:Beautiful building and facility, very nice location near the park and fairly close to main square. Restaurant was excellent, with very nice wait staff.

Review 21:Outside the hotel grounds there is s pond that has everything and I mean everything you don't want to see in it. The hairdryer was also very poor

Review 22:This is a stunning building and has everything you could wish for in a hotel.

Review 23:The breakfast at 19 Euros was rather expensive for what was available. More fresh fruit would have been nice as would have been fresh juices rather than bottled juice.

Review 24:The hotel is beautifully converted from a convent and the lounge/bar area is particularly relaxing. We were pleasantly surprised to find that we had been upgraded to a superior room which was very welcome.

Review 25:At 19 euro per person you can get better value for breakfast outside - we found a good cafe in the Grande Place.

Review 26:Great central location by a quiet canal and only 10 minutes on foot from the main square. Interesting and spacious interior thoughtfully adapted from an old convent.

Review 27:The mosquitos in the bedroom kept us awake (it was warm and there was no airco so we left the window open). The breakfast was fair but not good enough to justify the price (€ 19). Worst scrambled eggs ever!

Review 28:The location is perfect to visit Lille. The old city is around the corner and the public parking is at 5 minutes walking and cost € 4 per day (instead of € 18 parking fee at the hotel).

Review 29:The hotel is ratted as one of the best champagne bars but it was closed all the time. We waited to be served at the bar and even that the waiters so us they never came to us. We never managed to get nice temperature at the shower. Staff pretty loud in the morning... they decided to have a long chat just outside my room... couldn't go back to sleep.

Review 30:The hotel is very pretty and bed is excellent

Review 31:Couvent des Minimes has the slowest wifi I have ever encountered, the world over. It must be a dial-up connection from the 1990s. There is no in-hotel laundry service.

Review 32:The covered quadrangle, in what used to be a convent, is a fine place to eat breakfast.

Review 33:When we first arrived we checked in just before 2pm, so must've been one of the first. Without prompting the concierge said we can upgrade you to a better room for 30 euros. Alarm bells were ringing as we thought why what's wrong with the room we have. We were taken to our room which was in the atrium, very hot and when I opened the window I could hear a drilling noise. I thought it must just be something quick so we left our luggage and went to explore, when I came back at 6pm the room was boiling and the drilling noise was still going on. I called down (to a different conciege) he immediately apologised and upgraded us to a Comfort suite. That room was fantastic with a huge bed, lovely bathroom and fantastic extras (coffee machine etc). The lady who moved us said "oh yes the noise you heard was the kitchen and generator". It seems that the first conceirge knowingly gave us the worst room as they obviously weren't full and were trying to get more money from the rooms taken. Although we loved the stay and our room, it did leave us feeling a bit like they were trying to get one over on us.

Review 34:The hotel is situated just on the edge of the old town, it's far enough out of the way to be quite and close enough to be convenient.

Review 35:Atrium is very much the highlight. Rooms more than satisfactory. Ate in restaurant as the weather was foul outside. Food was fine, although the service was a bit eccentric

Review 36:Wi-fi did not work in room. Changed rooms for extra 30euros/day, still did not work in room. Had to sit in corridor where it did work.

Review 37:Nice accommodations and nice restaurant.

Review 38:The bathrooms haven't been newly renovated. Ours was perfectly clean and functional but not quite in keeping with the refurbished rooms.

Review 39:Pleasant, comfortable rooms, gorgeous huge bar area with atrium, very nice restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful. The building is a former convent and is quite unique. It has been tastefully converted into a hotel whilst keeping the original features. It is situated in a very quiet, picturesque location yet is only a 5 min walk to the Grand Place.

Review 40:Nothing our stay was a joy

Review 41:The situation was good convenient for bars and restaurants that were individual and not franchise. The hotel layout is very unique and architectural.Comfortable rooms and helpful staff.

Review 42:Wifi was only reliable at certain parts of my room, 217. I couldn't sit at the desk and use it. However when connected it was quick. I think before long the atrium structure could begin to look dirty which would be a shame, but overall the place was very clean and tidy.

Review 43:Excellent location, peaceful and east to navigate to when arriving by car. An onsite car park was very useful, I looked at many hotels which were reliant on public car parks. I would say the car park gets busy at times and you can't reserve a place which could be a problem but there was enough room for 40-50 cars. A nice but tad expensive bar is located in the central courtyard.

Review 44:Over the years the facilities have declined. WiFi the most basic service needed for business traveler was very erratic and could not have it in the room. Also, the cost charged vs what you get in terms of staff and the facilites are uneven.

Review 45:Familiar Place. Know the layout.

Review 46:A generally good experience, comfort of bed and pillows could be improved a little hard and lumpy

Review 47:A lovely Atrium, good service in lobby bar, stylish interior and easy to visit town and park

Review 48:The head waiter pointed to a wine which we agreed too, then he brings out a more expensive one which we want happy about, he knew what he was doing!!

Review 49:Everything, the whole layout is amazing

Review 50:Noice from the fair in the night.

Review 51:This hotel radiates "ambiance". History, culture and devotion pours from its walls, harmony from its interior decoration and wellbeing from the services rendered by the staff.

Review 52:When I've been before via Eurostar short break booking the breakfast was included. This time as we came by car, and booked independently breakfast would have been 18 euros extra, which I think is a bit steep!

Review 53:It's a nice hotel, which I've stayed in three times before.

Review 54:Nothing to complain about at all. Some people may find breakfast at 17 euros expensive but I thought it was value for money.

Review 55:The large bright room with flat screen TV, large and comfortable bed, coffee machine, leather couch, well appointed bathroom and shower. Very good breakfast and friendly multi lingual staff.

Review 56:I thought it was overpriced, the room(superior double ) large but a bit tired with stained carpet and scuffs on wall. also strange smell at night of drains, we had attic room. breakfast was 19euros and not worth that quite dissapointing.also bar service very slow and sullen staff.

Review 57:the location was good, near the old town and just a few minutes walk to centre. the outside looked good and impressed with the layout inside.

Review 58:Room safe did not work, wifi did not work, bad paint work with paint over window glass and radiator fittings. Management is not checking work that is done and work that needs to be done

Review 59:Staff

Review 60:Terrible experience trying to book combined room + Christmas lunch due to very poor attitude of back office staff - it took 4 'phone calls from London & escalation to senior management Walking back to hotel after dark does not feel secure

Review 61:Amazing atrium in centre of hotel - has wow factor Great service from Reception staff Large size room Walking distance from town centre Secure car park Plenty to see and do in and around Lille

Review 62:The heating was on high when we arrived and the room was hot enough to bake a cake in. Parking (€18) and breakfast (€19)were quite expensive.

Review 63:The hotel is very close to the old town. The room was large and an extra bed was provided at no extra cost. The hotel is beautiful and the atrium in the middle is light and airy.

Review 64:Booked mainly because of car park, said no reservation required but when we turned up car park was full. very disappointing as could have booked else where without parking for considerably less.

Review 65:location great, have stayed before and is lovely hotel

Review 66:Breakfast was expensive for what it was

Review 67:Very friendly and efficient staff Beautiful building Quiet The restaurant was good. Although I was eating alone the staff were friendly and helpful

Review 68:My room 111 smelt stale and damp. Also not enough electric light so room was very dark especially with the brown decor? Bath towels very small and no robes. Coffee at breakfast not nice.

Review 69:Friendly staff. Lovely relaxed dinning room. Lovely building in good position. Very nice bathroom but lack of bathrobes and smallness of towels let it down.

Review 70:No smiles at breakfast - poor service 18 Euros per day for car park - itshould be free for guests!

Review 71:Building has real wow factor Great location close to town centre Goodsized rooms Private, safe car park Friendly, efficient reception

Review 72:The destruction of the buliding in building a bar that is totally bad taste in respect of the beautiful building. The astronomical cost for the worst breakfast on offer in France.

Review 73:Comfort and location

Review 74:The cost of the breakfast at 19 Euros was over priced. Air con would be an advantage - we went in October and it was so warm we slept with the windows open.

Review 75:Lovely modernised convent, perfect for a short break. Great location near the old town with attractions, boutique shops and restaurants. The room was big and the bed comfortable. We had a meal in the restaurant which was delightful with great service.

Review 76:We found the hotel staff did not make us feel particularly welcome, some had a pretentious attitude, not particularly friendly, particularly in the bar area. Prices were expensive for drinks.

Review 77:Location was ok. Our Chambermaid was friendly & helpful, unlike some other staff members.

Review 78:Bathrooms are tired. Didn't get the full toiletries etc that we paid for. Breakfast staff lacked friendliness and interest.

Review 79:Location, interesting building, reception and bar/lounge areas, good sound insulation to rooms, good size of room, comfortable bed, quality of breakfast, efficiency and friendliness of reception staff.

Review 80:The terrible coffee with breakfast (It's France, for goodness sake!). Although I would happily stay at the hotel again I would not risk another dinner. The food was a great disappointment. (The food in the piano bar is far better)

Review 81:Good Mostly – Staff excellent (Particularly the waitress who found me a decent cup of coffee when I found the breakfast coffee quite unpleasant). The location is good as is the amazing architecture. Also sitting in the bar area with the piano playing was very relaxing

Review 82:Very small niggle: they only supplied two cartons of milk a day for two people wanting tea and coffee morning and evening. Always happy to top you up when you asked, but you shouldn't have to ask.

Review 83:We stayed there the first weekend in September when Lille plays host to Europe's biggest flea market. The hotel could not be better placed for it. The flea market happens right outside the front door! This was our second visit to the hotel, which we rate very highly. Previously we just spent a weekend walking around Lille. We left our car in the hotel car park and walked everywhere. The hotel is situated on a quay, between the old town and a nice park. Great position, great hotel.

Review 84:Peaceful setting, just on the edge of Lille but still in touch with the major sites. Our room was spacious and well appointed, we ate in the hotel and both the food and service were a real treat!

Review 85:The rooms We all were given rooms on the 3rd (top) floor. These had restricted head height in shower, dormer windows with no external views. We would go back but would request a lower floor.

Review 86:Architecture and layout. Good on site parking for a city centre hotel. Spacious bar lounge area with large glass atrium Breakfast quality and service

Review 87:Hotel was far too hot, particularly the bedroom

Review 88:Spacious room and bathroom, quiet, very friendly and helpful reception staff, excellent location, good variety for breakfast

Review 89:Nothing

Review 90:Beautiful hotel lovely rooms and the bar area was great.

Review 91:Nothing.

Review 92:Beautiful setting near town centre. Parking for cars available.

Review 93:the restaurant evening meal was a little bland

Review 94:The piano bar and breakfast was great

Review 95:The room was too warm and hot food arrived on cold plates

Review 96:Comfort of the hotel, charming staff

Review 97:Beds not over-comfortable

Review 98:Great bar area

Review 99:Smell in the room and especially in Bath room

Review 100:The building

Review 101:Could not fault any part of our stay!

Review 102:ٍ Both shower and WC needed repairs

Review 108:The room was very dark (room 215 ).There was no windows to the outside and lighting was inadequate

Review 109:Poor wi-fi connection

Review 110:Great breakfast Nice bar

Review 111:A rather soulless place

Review 112:Helpful staff; lovely building.

Review 113:WiFi a bit intermittent.

Review 115:breakfast was expensive for what was on offer

Review 124:Beautiful big rooms and bathroom. Amazing bar area in the atrium

Review 125:The bar area was not in keeping with the rest of the hotel, u atmospheric.
