Reviews for Sandpiper Hotel & Restaurant
Review 1:Staff were really friendly and helpful .Room was clean and with everything I needed in there. Would I stay their again, yes I would without hesitation . Thank you to Sandpiper Hotel Staff
Review 2:There wasn't anything we didn't like.
Review 3:It was such a pleasant place to relax all the staff excellent and very helpful the breakfast was lovely for bedroom was so nice and would love to return
Review 4:Not a bad experience, but it was a wet and windy night and we had to go outside and walk to and from the dining room. Unfortunately there was no internal noise insulation and as we were on the ground floor it was very noisy. I was woken at 7am and thought my husband was in our shower but it was the shower in the room upstairs!
Review 5:The food was excellent and the staff friendly but professional.
Review 6:Humming noise throughout the night and a problem with running water noise somewhere above my room. The water noise was resolved after an hour.
Review 7:Helpful staff on arrival including carrying bits upstairs, (there is a lift). Tasty and value for money dinner in the bar; recommend the fish and chips.
Review 8:Lighting in bar and bedrooms! Fluorescent lighting is a bit stark, and not ideal for make up.
Review 9:Proximity to my business destination (Markham Vale). Friendliness of all staff.
Review 10:Lovely staff who were very friendly on arrival. Me and my partner stopped in this hotel as we were having a night out in chesterfield, 2miles away from the hotel. Checking in was easy and the 24hr reception made it easy for us to return to our room at whatever time we wanted. Good price also. Bed was very comfortable and we had control of the heating in the room too. Very quiet surroundings so we had no disturbances through the night or in the morning. Was also happy that we got until 11am to check out.
Review 11:To avoid confusion later on, only pay for the room when booking online. Pay for breakfast separately on the day.
Review 12:Hotel on northern outskits of Chesterfield, but regular bus service between Chesterfield and Sheffield stops right outside. Hotel Staff very friendly.
Review 13:A really excellent hotel. Superbly helpful and friendly staff, nothing too much trouble. Beautifully clean and well kept. Excellent food, superbly presented. Will definitely stay again when in the area.
Review 14:On the down side the room I had was nearest to the main road and there was some traffic noise but to be fair it didn't affect my stay.
Review 15:The staff were all friendly and helpful. The room comfortable and warm. The cooked breakfast in terms of size was without a doubt the best I have ever experienced anywhere.
Review 16:Dinner not good. Definitely needs improvement. eg fruit in dessert had been cut in fridge for several days
Review 17:Staff were very helpful and friendly present great atmosphere.
Review 18:Not much of outside view and TV is too small because can't read subtitles when lie on the bed. Walking outside to the restaurant is not suitable if freezing weather.
Review 19:Big room
Review 20:Felt the £65 was slightly over priced for the room we had!
Review 21:The bed was very comfortable and the room in general was okay! Just needed a little modernising maybe
Review 22:The bed was too small and the mattress was very uncomfortable The TV didn't work - though staff quickly fixed it No cold water in the bath
Review 23:The staff were very friendly
Review 24:No bad experience though small TV on wall at one end of room was too far to see properly. I talked to staff and they agreed that this had been highlighted before.
Review 25:Felt comfortable and overall on site things were fine.
Review 26:Food was incredible. John who looked after me in the bar had excellent customer service skills and couldn't do enough. Parking great and secure, clean and spacious rooms and public area.
Review 27:Lack of air conditioning particularly in the bedrooms
Review 28:From the moment we got their they could not do enough for us without being in your face all the time
Review 29:The staff are all really friendly and very helpful and nothing is to much trouble for them parking is at the Hotel and is free and just drive up to the barrier to leave you will need a pin number. On arrival we were met by Chris on reception who is a very helpful and nice guy and Kenny who is an absolute treasure to that Hotel and he is very hands on and is always on the go to make everything run smoothly .The meal we had that night was lovely as I'm on a diet the chef was very accommodating to alter my starter choice with a few naughty ingredients being removed and that was a lovely pasta dish the main choice was the mixed grill my what a belly burster!if you can't have chips then they don't mind a jkt potato or salad as an alternative.Perfectly cooked! Breakfast on the first morning was a waiter service of which you selected off the menu your individual choices for a full English with Tea or Coffee or juice & toast also there is a selection of cereals and fruit and pastries also, and again was lovely 2nd day as The Sandpiper had a wedding the day before it was buffet service all hot and perfectly cooked.if you can't have chips with that then there is no .The hotel was clean and tidy in every area and the room we had was very big we had a room on the front but even though there is a little traffic it never bothered us and we both had two great night sleep.Shower and bath in the en-suite with toiletries and plenty of hot water.Tea and coffee and Kettle in your room. All in all this hotel is fab ideal for Sheffield as it is just 20 min from parts of Sheffield. not far from Chesterfield of which we took a bus into and that is across the road from the Hotel and is about a 10 min at the most journey. We stopped here for a leisure break and to visit our Daughter who is at Uni at Sheffield in Hallam and works within the outskirts of Sheffield and Chesterfield. We will definitely stop at this Hotel again.
Review 30:We met friends there and had dinner in the restaurant. It was beautifully set out, looked high class and the food was delicious. Best of all it did not cost an arm and a leg. It also had a bar/cafe which was delightful with a good choice of drinks.
Review 31:Very hard bed, paper thin walls, I could hear every car that came down the main road which kept me awake most of the night , this was down to the construction of the block I was in (every block seemed to have the same design/use the same construction materials) the walls need insulating and/or sound proofing. This meant the cleaners woke me up with their extremely LOUD conversation as they made their way from room to room , it genuinely did seem like they were having a shouting match (a word with staff about consideration for guests is in order) and the most annoying thing was I was awoken hours before my checkout time. Didn't have breakfast as my overall perception of the place led me to believe it wouldn't be great .
Review 32:Free wi-fi, friendly reception staff, ease of access and great parking. Location is just close enough to chesterfield to make it in to town by taxi for £7 - £8
Review 33:Far too noisy. Too close to road. Room too hot without a window open. With the window open there was too much noise from the wedding guests. Not a restful nights sleep
Review 34:Size of room
Review 35:Clean comfy hotel with friendly staff. We stayed in a room at the back of the Hotel so it was very quiet A short drive and you will find lots of shops coffee shops and restaurants.
Review 36:Woken up at 3.00am by occupants of next room slamming door, running up stairs, leaving landing light on and turning tv and shower on. They hit the land of nod by 4.00am.
Review 37:Staff very pleasant and helpful. Room large and spacious.
Review 38:Just used as a place to sleep while visiting relatives so didn't use bar/restaurant facilities. Staff really friendly and helpful and everything we needed was in the room.
Review 39:On this occasion the window didn't close correctly, staff immediately added it to the maintenance schedule for review.
Review 40:Good location for ourselves, easily accessible, late arrival not an issue for staff, plenty of free parking in a reasonably secure car park, reasonably quiet location. Good price
Review 41:Not a real problem but the shower was very slow running and the doors closing were quite noisy. However this did not detract from our stay as residents were careful when closing in the main.
Review 42:The staff as always, were superb. It is a real family atmosphere and they are very pleasant and go out of their way to help.
Review 43:Amazingly friendly staff, very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. Food was fab - both the bar meals and breakfast. Quiet location, plenty of parking, easy to find and great base for going in to Chesterfield. Very impressed, especially for the price!
Review 44:The noise from the road, the room was quite warm, so had to open the windows
Review 45:The staff are really helpful. It's placed just right for me and my partner for what we want to do.
Review 46:Nothing Really as it was a business trip
Review 47:Comfy and Clean and Friendly Staff, Food and service can not be faulted. and was only a 3 minute commute to the office I was working from for the week
Review 48:we ordered breakfast and first day was fantastic we can help self but next day we could ordered and was very small portion. also when we asked to bring breakfast to room it was chargeable 2 pound per person, where some other hotels it is for free
Review 49:in the hotel was everything what I needed, very good service
Review 50:Bed rather uncomfortable with basic bathroom facilities. The bedroom units were rather past their best. For a one night stay not a big issue.
Review 51:Parking, wifi, all rooms for our family room were together. Good breakfast.
Review 52:Being really picky but beans with the breakfast would be good but that's a very minor thing.
Review 53:Very welcoming, check in was very quick and the room was good as was the food.
Review 54:The extractor fan in the bathroom went on for ages after switching off the light, very noisy. Could hear noises from other bedrooms.
Review 55:All the staff were pleasant and the room airy and clean. Breakfast was really nice.
Review 56:the taps in the bathroom were sticking on but I did complain and was offered another room which I declined because we didn't spend a lot of time in room .But if a lady was on her own she wouldn't have been able to turn taps.
Review 57:It was convenient to be close to where my family live.staff very helpful!
Review 58:The bed comfortable but very movable and the bathroom nothing broken but had signs of wear.
Review 59:Staff couldn't do enough for us,room a little tired but comfortable. The location was very good as close to main by-pass yet very quiet, enough to hear the birds in the morning
Review 60:Bed, bad back for past 2 days Room was cold all the time Noise from pipes kept us awake Neighbours running up and down stairs all the time.
Review 61:Staff Parking
Review 62:Nothing we didn't like, breakfast is ok, Mrs owl could hear the neighbours but I'm a bit deaf and didn't notice.
Review 63:Good value for money, facilities are very reasonable, lots of hot water, staff are pleasant.
Review 64:The room was a little cold when we first arrived - but it warmed up soon enough.
Review 65:Great food, very comfortable rooms (good bed, bath, nice decor) and friendly staff. A lovely little village a short drive from Bath. I'd recommend a stay.
Review 66:Nothing was to our distaste
Review 67:The hotel was dated but very clean. The bedrooms were adequate and heating was available when needed. Tea and coffee were welcome albeit the kettle did not have a plug nearby.
Review 68:An ugly looking building in a nothing kind of area.
Review 69:You never know what you are likely to get from an independent hotel but here you got pleasent staff, clean and comfy accommodation and a good breakfast. I would stay again.
Review 70:TV reception not the best but more to do with location probably.
Review 71:The hotel delivers above its budget in terms of service and the quality of food provided at reasonable cost
Review 72:Only 1 complaint, the bed in our room was quite hard anduncomfortable however it did not spoil our stay and we will use the hotel again
Review 73:We enjoyed our stay, friendly welcome received, Kenny and Pam get top marks for their customer service
Review 74:The key pad to get out of the gate was conveniently placed on the passenger side of the car. A pain for the single traveller.
Review 75:Everything was great. Lovely staff. Good food. Will stay again if in area
Review 76:The rooms are functional and comfortable I do not like too many frills. They were also spotlessly clean and all the equipment such as hair dryer, TV and most importantly the kettle worked. The shower was hot with a good strong flow of water. The restaurant was as I remember it from previous visits with plenty of choice to suit all tastes. The food we chose for our evening meal was perfectly cooked, beautifully presented and served hot; good sized portions and the service was excellent. Breakfast was the same good food served hot, plenty of it and good service. The surroundings are lovely and the background music was just that; nice music at a volume that did not interfere with your conversation or your enjoyment of the meal. The bed was firm which is to our taste and we got a good nights sleep which we both needed after a very stressful drive in terrible weather conditions. I stayed at The Sandpiper on five separate occasions some ten years ago and was so impressed especially with the restaurant that I always said that I would take my wife there one day. I did and she was as impressed as I was. John Reed.
Review 77:Breakfast finished too early (9am). The barrier in the car park - with the touch pad on the passenger side of the car - was intensely irritating. The rooms are 'tired' and in need of redecoration. I don't like bedspreads on hotel beds because I suspect they are rarely cleaned.
Review 78:Staff were very friendly.
Review 79:Nothing but we only stayed for one night
Review 80:Staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. Good breakfast that was nice and hot. Overall excellent value for money and would stay again.
Review 81:The Sandpiper looks modest and not too exciting from the outside, but this is deceptive. Service was very good and friendly, room was clean and comfortable, and a good size. We chose dinner from the bar menu (me)and restaurant menu (husband) and both were very good. Although location is a bit off the beaten track, it's easy to drive into Sheffield or Chesterfield if you want, and quieter than a hotel in the city centre.
Review 82:Nothing negative to say, everything was fine.
Review 83:We had a very comfortable night here on our way from the North to London. It was an easy 2.5 drive to London the next day.
Review 84:I found that all the staff very polite and very helpful. The menu had a good variety, the meals were well presented and well cooked. The room was very comfortable and the facilities good, though some road noise which ment keeping window closed. All together a good stay and I would not hesitate in booking again if in the area..
Review 85:Nothing really. No wi-fi but maybe that's a good thing.
Review 86:Couldn't get anywhere in Chesterfield so tried this hotel. From booking in it was clear that this hotel cared about its customers, setting itself apart from the 'chains'. Everyone was friendly and very helpful. If you are relying on public transport, like us, the regular Sheffield and Chesterfield buses stop near to the hotel entrance. We had a room at the rear of the hotel. It was very quiet. Dining room and breakfast were great. Will definitely return.
Review 87:There was a strange smell on the corridors as we went to our room. The bed was on castor wheels which had not been secured properly so the bed moved when you got in it. Also the bed wasn't particularly comfortable
Review 88:Free wifi always nice. Restaurant had good wine list. We were there for a wedding and the evening buffet was nice.
Review 89:Windows on ground floor should be able to be locked, partly open, as it was a warm night. Fried eggs, as well as provided scrambled, would be nice for breakfast.
Review 90:Good sized, clean double room and bathroom. Good breakfast.
Review 91:The hotel seems to cater for a large number of contractors . During our 2 night stay (cut short). The noise within the area we were staying was unacceptable, doors banging as earlie or as late as 02.30 am. First morning we were there heavy machinery working in the adjacent car park . Not a problem if you need to be awake at 07.00am.Booked out 2 days early. poor water pressure for shower over bath.
Review 92:Location Food evening meal Staff friendly
Review 93:The room was a bit dated and the 'tv' was too small to watch from the bed. The shower was more a dribble than that expected.
Review 94:The staff were very helpful and the food in the restaurant was very good. The bedroom size was good and the bed size also good.
Review 95:No air conditioning in bedrooms. Unable to get an evening meal in the hotel on Sunday night, even though the hotel stated that meals were available all day.
Review 96:Very helpful and friendly staff.
Review 97:The television screen was very small (smaller than a laptop!) even though the room was a good size. They really need to install larger TVs or not bother at all.
Review 98:The restaurant was good value and the food tasty.
Review 99:carnt think of much no inside lock or bolt on the door
Review 100:nice helpful staff ,had wifi code given before i could ask ,extra pillows in dust proof bag in room,a bath and over bath shower
Review 101:Outside annexe rooms, although clean & comfy, equipped well but water pressure in shower not that good.
Review 102:Friendly staff, quiet relaxed atmosphere in bar / restaurant. large rooms with en suite & TV.
Review 103:My last bed was very uncomfatable
Review 104:Everyone was very helpful
Review 105:Friendly, clean comfy
Review 106:Room smells of smoke
Review 107:Sunday breakfast was at 8 am.
Review 108:Comfortable and relaxing and no noise and Staff very welcoming. Excellent meals.
Review 109:The price was to high without breakfast should have a bigger TV
Review 110:No complaints whatsoever. Friendly, helpful, cheerful staff
Review 111:The food and the service were both superb.
Review 112:It's was comfy and staff were accommodation when I asked for a late check out as their checkout time is 11am
Review 113:Room temperature very difficult to regulate; and quite cold! I thought breakfast was included for my £50!
Review 114:The staff were friendly and helpful
Review 115:Room freezing, with heating on full blast. Shower very weak/ slow, not hot. Room not clean/ old and outdated for £65 a night.
Review 116:Friendly staff
Review 117:Fantastic food
Review 118:bar closed on sunday
Review 119:every thing
Review 120:The beds were a bit hard, not stiff, hard and pillows were very flat.
Review 121:The staff were excellent, rooms were very spacious.
Review 122:bad timing , busy with 2 weddings
Review 123:repeat stay so I must like it
Review 124:restaurant,wifi
Review 125:I have stayed in many hotels over the years for work. This is by far the friendliest and most helpful staff and owner I have ever dealt with.
Review 126:Did not have one
Review 127:Waiter in resteruant nice guy, other staff polite and friendly
