Reviews for Brueghel
Review 1:Staff are not rude they just ignore you. They do speak English but will only answer a question if they really have to.... Don't expect any help from them. We arrived in the middle of a huge storm... Two girls with two big heavy suitcases and trying to push open a door and drag them up steps.... The guy in front desk never moved as we struggled.
Review 2:Fab location and nice room with updated bathroom. Easy walk to loads of shops and restaurants.
Review 3:This is a lovely, quirky little hotel with really friendly staff. It couldn't be better located. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that, but I would happily recommend The Hotel Breughel to anyone looking to stay in Lille and explore the old town.
Review 4:We booked this hotel through a "cheap deal". Apparently that means you get the smallest and most bizarre room in the hotel, nothing like in the pictures...
Review 5:Friendly staff, good location.
Review 6:Small beds, no curtain to use the bathtub as a shower. No soundproofing. We were bitten all-night by mosquitoes and couldn't sleep as a result. The mosquitoes are arguably not the hotel's fault, but had we known about the issue, we would have kept the windows closed (in spite of the heat).
Review 7:Nice location, nice people. The room itself was rather charming.
Review 8:a few reviewers have mentioned (external) noise at night, and this was the case, however I don't think any more than you would expect from a central location in any city
Review 9:Very convenient for Eurostar/TGV and Old Town, helpful staff, clean and well laid out room, useful left luggage facility... we will be staying here again in future visits to Lille
Review 10:The bathroom was uncomfortably tiny. The towels were small and stiff, and the complimentary toiletries consisted of a miniature bar of soap and a bottle of shampoo, not exactly what one would expect from a three-star hotel.
Review 11:The hotel definitely has a unique character. The lobby is especially charming. Breakfast is expensive, but with a very wide selection of self-service options.
Review 12:Nothing
Review 13:The hotel is close to the city centre and most of the main sights. We liked the period features in the reception and the breakfast was good too. The room was on the small side but more than adequate for our needs on a short break.
Review 14:Standard room had slightly uncomfortable beds (hard, a bit lumpy) - superior room was perfect. We missed the UK tradition of tea making facilities in your room.
Review 15:Helpful staff, clean, cool and interesting stylish rooms, we loved having a bath in our en suite. Most importantly this is the best location in town at a really good price.
Review 16:We didn't have the breakfast as we thought it was over-priced.
Review 17:Excellent location, quirky decor, really helpful and friendly staff. Very comfortable bed, good wifi.
Review 18:The rooms are absolutely tiny, there's hardly place for two suitcases. I think this could be a problem when staying longer than a few days.
Review 19:The location is perfect, right in the centre of Lille, with a beautiful view over the cathedral. Rooms are cosy and clean, staff friendly and responsive. All in all, a great choice for one night or a weekend in Lille.
Review 20:breakfast is very good ,but the breakfastroom is very small, and sometimes you had to wait for a vacant place, but it's no so important,
Review 21:nice picture on the wall, very warm as interior, typisch,
Review 22:No hotel parking available. To find a parking occasion nearby in the inner city can be difficult and/or expensive.
Review 23:Nice 19th century building in the inner city with an old-fashioned lobby. Friendly staff.
Review 24:it got quite noisy at night being in a square, but we discovered window shutters second night and blocked out the light and noise.
Review 25:brilliant location, very nice hotel staff very helpful
Review 26:There is a lot of noise from the streets with revellers returning home and this can continue well into the early hours. But for the price, location and character of hotel it was still well worth the visit.
Review 27:The location couldn't be better - two minutes to the central square in Lille and the edge of the old town. The hotel has real French charm and character. The staff were great and breakfast was very good.
Review 28:You can hear some noise from rooms next to yours. The mattress on our bed was very soft.
Review 29:Incredibly clean and well kept. Amazing location. Lovely staff. Quirky and full of character. Very near the euro star station, perfect for a weekend break.
Review 30:Really would have liked tea and coffee making in room It is a little noisy outside the hotel with people etc coming home through the town but that's just the location but earplugs glass of wine helps!! But was nice and quiet on the Sunday evening
Review 31:Location, clean and comfortable value for money loved the lift !!! Me and my mum were on the ground floor the view was great of the church loves it !! Helpful reception staff
Review 32:Very loud, continual banging through the walls and ceiling at 8am as there was a handyman doing some renovation works in the lobby area. This woke us up in a rather fitful start and wasn't the ideal way to start the day. We were not warned about this. The lady serving at breakfast wasn't particularly friendly and didn't make us feel very comfortable. She wasn't rude, but was very stern and we didn't feel comfortable asking for extra jam (we were allocated a mini pot each which was not enough, and the jams were not free-serve.) We came down with at least 45 minutes left before breakfast ended, and plenty of the food items had run out and had not been replenished, in particular the croissants which was what my partner was looking forward to most! With a charge of €10 each for breakfast, I didn't think this was entirely acceptable.
Review 33:The room was very charming, like an old Parisian apartment. It had so much character and was well furnished. It was also very clean. We especially liked that the toilet and bathroom were separate. It wasn't soulless like so many chain hotels. The price is great value as well. It's in a wonderful location too, right opposite a church and in the centre of town, near the old town and next to all the shops and cafés. The staff are quite friendly and helpful, although we didn't have much to ask them so didn't interact with them much.
Review 34:Our room 608 was simply perfect. Spacious bedroom, walk-incloset and a bathroom with a view if you wished so. All floors have different design beginning with the classic painters from the groundfloor to modern and contemporary art at the 6th floor. The reception is warm and cosy, and we had a very pleasant stay here. Parking the car is no problem at all, 50m there is a public parking "Tanneurs" at €17 per day. If you do your shopping in the Monoprix belonging to the adjoint shopping centre you can get a reduction. Highly recommendable, would love to stay here again.
Review 35:Tea/coffee facilities would have been good, door handle needed attention but fixed quickly and well, not hotel's fault but lots of people begging round town.
Review 36:Helpful staff - vvg, beds, bathroom, windows and view of St Maurice, proximity to places. decor, bath and hot water but had there been a twin with shower would have chosen that, cost of stay vg, very quiet (except passersby at night!), hairdryer vg, and the name of the hotel - my favourite artist.
Review 37:No standing shower Noise from outside of the hotel. Could hear other people talk, shower etc
Review 38:Close to all points of interest Bathtub Atmosphere
Review 39:Nothing to fault
Review 40:Perfect for seeing Lille. Central location. Perfect
Review 41:Friendly staff Lovely room fab view
Review 42:Centrally located, very friendly, helpful staff. We would stay there again.
Review 43:Room was a little small, bed didn't have a headboard so felt a bit basic.
Review 44:Beautiful old lift and traditional decor.
Review 45:Nice hotel, with tidy room om a perfect location in city centre. Good value for money
Review 46:Small room
Review 47:Location
Review 48:Construction noise and people in the street made sleeping difficult since in the summer we needed to keep the windows open for cooling.
Review 49:Good location/ base Staff friendly & very helpful Good atmosphere & decor
Review 50:The room was the smallest room we have ever stayed in all our years of travling !
Review 51:Location only
Review 52:Slightly dated. The shower needed fixing...
Review 53:The lift !!! And the fact that we get a proper key!
Review 54:It was noisy during the night!
Review 55:Very good location!!
Review 56:Breakfast wasn't included
Review 57:Charming old Hotel comes with small walls, unfortunately, you hear some sounds coming from the commons and the rooms nearby.
Review 58:The location was excellent right in town
Review 59:The noise in the room - you can hear your neighbour talking and doing other things...
Review 60:The location is great
Review 61:Friendly, competent staff. Old world atmosphere.
Review 62:Not a lot
Review 63:Everything
Review 64:Can't fault it!
Review 65:Warm welcome Friendly staff Delightful room-warm and spacious Excellent location
Review 66:no view smallish room
Review 67:Location breakfast room Cleanliness
Review 68:The old world style
Review 69:Bad wifi in the room
Review 70:Breakfast Staff
Review 71:Noisy street
Review 72:Location, comfort, clean,
Review 73:Toulet was down the hall not in the room
Review 74:Rooms are quite small. Would have preferred a proper door to the bathroom rather than a sliding panel.
Review 75:Central location, close to the Eurostar station, the city centre and also Old Lille. Clean room with a nice new bathroom. Pleasant staff.
Review 76:Room a bit small. Basic facilities. Considerable noise from revellers throughout the early hours at weekends if leaving windows open. This however not the hotels fault - merely a consequence of the central location.
Review 77:Central location for railway stations, shops, cafes etc. Very pleasant and helpful staff - a big plus - well done! Beautiful antique lift and also some of the furniture. Large airy bathroom. Large windows to room let in plenty of light.. Cleaning standard high.
Review 78:Great location - easy walk from Eurostar and to central restaurants. Friendly staff, comfortable room. Yes there was some noise from the street at night but we expected that with the central location. Would stay again.
Review 79:finding a parking place: there is a carpark very close to the hotel, but it costs €17 for 24 hours and should thus be added in to the cost of the hotel: best to arrive by train!
Review 80:very good location
Review 81:Bad pillows, pleas replace.
Review 82:Older hotel, but very well maintained. You need to go knowing you may have to walk up a flight or two of stairs if the lift is busy. Very friendly staff, room very clean. Lovely views of church across the street from our room.
Review 83:The lady serving breakfast was quite abrupt and unfriendly but all part of the French charm I guess
Review 84:Great location, nice rooms and friendly reception staff
Review 85:nothing
Review 86:warm welcome and very friendly.Interesting antiques make it individual. Ideally situated for the main shopping area but only a couple of minutes walk from Lille Flandres station ( pedestrian area, with stone sets)
Review 87:Our room was too small really! It should have a single bed to make it functional, Avoid room 506. We have stayed at the Brueghel before and had a more spacious room. How about putting a kettle in the room?
Review 88:Charming hotel very close to shopping centre and perfect for exploring Lille. Lovely bathroom and comfortable bed. Lots of character and atmosphere.
Review 89:Central location, but not in the crowded streets. Very clean, very nice atmosphere, old hotel but very charmful. It was very frenchy too with nice and clean white room and even nicer bathroom.
Review 90:The showers in a couple of the rooms weren't wall mounted.
Review 91:The location was excellent and the rooms were really lovely. There was lots of character which is hard to find in a reasonably priced city centre hotel
Review 92:The room was pretty hot, but when we opened the window there was a lot of noise (because it's so central)
Review 93:Atmosphere, location, oldschool hotel, nicely decorated
Review 94:Original and authentic period feel. Room nicely proportioned. Exceptionally good locatioin for shopping transport (including Lille Europe train station) and restaurants
Review 95:Too noisy, and reception guy at night I was told off because I rang the bell twice (I didn't notice because I couldn't hear it the first time), if it's too loud for the guests then don't put a door bell at night..
Review 96:Location, rooms
Review 97:Room and bathroom tiny. No proper shower, just attachment over bath. Lift big enough for 2 only so could take ages sometimes, especially as we were on the 5th floor!
Review 98:Location was perfect. Beds, pillows really comfy. Breakfast good value.
Review 99:- very small bed : 1.40m for 2 personn ;( - very small bath. I am 1.60m and couldnt even lie my legs down when sat in the bath
Review 100:- situation in the center, close to shops, restaurant - quiet room
Review 101:Loo roll dispenser was an old industrial one and a bit too noisy! that's the only downside to the room. And we got told off by the night guy on friday night for ringing the bell twice as it could disturb sleeping guests... well the bell shouldn't be that loud then!
Review 102:Great room and brilliant location. it was really good value for money and would definitely stay there again.
Review 103:Charming hotel with a lovely mix of old antiques and new. Clean fresh white bed linen and great attention to detail. Would stay again and recommend it. Perfect location.
Review 104:The bed could have been a tad bigger when sleeping together.
Review 105:Located in the heart of the city centre. A nice traditional small hotel with character. Small, but clean room.
Review 106:Breakfast was not worth 10 euros per person. Better alternatives at nearby cafes. No shower curtain.
Review 107:View from the hotel room. Cosy room. Hotel with charm.
Review 108:whilst having the facility to have a shower, no curtain etc means you cannot have one without flooding the bathroom.
Review 109:The location is great for the centre of lille. Room extremely clean, newly decorated. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We keep returning so must be good
Review 110:Wonderful atmosphere of more then 50 years back ('Allo 'Allo!) yet clean and tidy, Nice friendly staff, beautiful view of the church (without the sound!). Excellent breakfast..
Review 111:Decorations are not very pleasing, sometimes scary - those human facesand figures in darkness are eerie
Review 112:Clean room, conveniently located near train stations and metro stations, near Tourist Information centre
Review 113:We were very disappointed when we first saw the room as it was nothinglike the photos of our booking. It was tiny with ugly furniture. It wasa complete different room in the photo. You are supposed to get what yousee in the photo but we didn'T. We ended up getting a different roomin this hotel (paying around €20 more). I call that fraud.
Review 114:The room we stayed in was ok but we had to pay more money (around €20)to get the room that was in the photo of our booking. The location iscentral, good for shopping and sightseeing. Lovely view.
Review 115:A very, very small lift!
Review 116:The rooms were small but clean and comfortable, and nicely decorated. The staff were universally efficient and pleasant. I thought it good value for money.
Review 117:Room quite small. Very noisy in the surrounding streets the night westayed. We had to leave the window open for fresh air as there was noairconditioning.
Review 118:The locality was closelocalityrail station.
Review 119:It was noisy in the evening but this was due to a city event on the day we stayed. not the hotels fault.
Review 120:the location is very good, rooms are lovely, very clean.
Review 121:I wouldnt say we didnt like the cobbles but they are hard work when youare exploring all day!
Review 122:Lille is very nice abd although the cobbled areas look great care mustbe taken as some are loose some missing and some have huge gaps betweenthem, maybe hazardous for some people. Lovely places to eat and we likedthe zoo it was pretty and easy to walk to also free.
Review 123:Noise insolation.
Review 124:Excellent location in the center of Lille, friendly local staff with good advice, nice decoration, room small yet functional with good bed and clean bathroom.
Review 125:They don't seem to understand the concept of a shower, it was OK but no screen and no fixings which is not ideal.
Review 126:Friendly staff and clean hotel. Good location for the station and the main parts of the city.
Review 127:A little on the small side and the lack of common rooms for relaxation.
Review 128:An excellent traditional hotel well located in the centre.Friendly and helpful staff and a very good breakfast. Would definately return.
Review 129:The hotel is small but very friendly. When a problem arose through snowy weather conditions and disrupted homeward travel, the staff could not have been more friendly.
Review 130:The location was excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful and there were lots of good quality, reasonably priced, places to eat within walking distance. The hotel itself has a lot of character and is close to all central sites and amenities. Despite all that, it was very peaceful at night.
