Reviews for Playa de la Luz
Review 1:The restaurant was closed. All I could get was a sandwich.
Review 2:Very friendly and I like the Seaview from my room. They let me take some cheese and bread to my room. And opened a bottle of wine I had brought with me. Next time I will go during a better season.
Review 3:The room key system needs to be improved!....in 48hrs we needed two trips to reception because we couldn't get in our room, 1 trip to reception because the card would not activate the safe, and 1 time because the card would not let us back in with our car on the gate!
Review 4:Cleanliness, breakfast,location all fantastic.
Review 5:I preferred an option to order from the menu. Buffet meals tend to encourage over eating. I stayed on the second floor but there was no elevator. The stairs were difficult for me to use. No cell phone connectivity from the room.
Review 6:Convenience of amenities and location to restaurants. The ocean view was lovely and so was the courtyard. The bar service and restaurant dining was very good.
Review 7:Nothing- but there were a few Black cockroaches around the time of year we were not a problem you expect them in hot places
Review 8:Room- we Upgraded our room to junior suite on 1st floor overlooking the pool which was worth the €'s Location- perfect right on the beach and close enough to the town. Breakfast- choices were exquisite. Staff- cleaning was thorough each day.
Review 9:Beds were creeky and pillows were useless. They did have a pillow policy so we changed pillows at no extra charge but not much improvement. The pool bar/restaurant menu was very limited.
Review 10:Breakfast was excellent with plenty of variety and daily changes. Location was excellent. Free parking and free wifi. The restaurant on the hotel promenade had a very good menu and was not too expensive.
Review 11:The room decoration is a bit 'old' but still nice. The main pool is taken by children's activities and it is sometimes noisy if the rooms are facing the pool (we had one but were coming back late every day)
Review 12:The hotel is really nice and comfortable. The beach club was the best option, it is not very expeensive and staying there was perfect as the main pool is full with children and families. I like the aqua yoga classes in the morning! The chill out terrace was also very nice, particularly one day when there was live music. We didnt take the breakfast buffet but we had really nice breakfast in the pool bar every day. the restaurant La Gaviota was FANTASTIC for lunches and dinners. We will come back!
Review 13:reserved sunbeds from the early morning, reserved tables by the pool, poor animation programme, too expensive
Review 14:Spacious room, close to the sea, swimming pool, breakfast, staff
Review 15:Pedimos cama grande y vistas al mar pero no pudo ser. Algo apartado del centro.
Review 16:Nos encantó el hotel. El desayuno exquisito. La piscina impecable. La tranquilidad.
Review 17:The facilities, the location on the beach and the surprise of an up-grade to a beach front suite with all the amenities one would expect at a luxury resort.
Review 18:It would have been nice if more spa services were available. Front desk was not that helpful.
Review 19:Entire property is gorgeous. Marble bathrooms are quite luxurious. Pools are kept immaculate. Beach at Rota is lovely. Quiet area at beach club is very relaxing and comfortable.
Review 20:My husband and I didn't like the Two beds in the room. Couldn't put them together, first time sleeping in separate beds.
Review 21:The view of the beach from the room window, the peacefulness, the pools, helpful staff members.
Review 22:We loved everything.
Review 23:A great location with lots of activities for the family and restaurants within walking distance. Most fun day was the day we rented bikes from the hotel front desk and rode into town and along the board walk.
Review 24:Buffet is really bad, and too expensive. location is a little far from downtown.
Review 25:to my surprise , it is a big big room for my family. Good view and good facility.
Review 26:Food was dreadful - it was overcooked, badly prepared, expensive and worst of all had gone bad or off. No replacement was offered despite complaints and the smell.
Review 27:Staff friendly and helpful
Review 28:They had some bugs at the room and the buffet area.
Review 29:Staff had a great customer services, and the facility was really comfort and couchy. Ideal for the end of a hard, long day of work.
Review 30:The balcony was very small.
Review 31:Staff is helpful and efficient and gave us an upgraded room without me asking. The room was comfortable and large. Breakfast was good the staff very nice and helpful.
Review 32:It's a big hotel which of course has its downsides, like the crowds in the breakfast room. Also the kind of tourists. It's always suspicious when you see signs saying Please don't leave towels to reserve the sun loungers, don't take food away from the buffet... as all that should go without saying. We had a wonderful time off-season, but wouldn't have enjoyed it so much had the place been full. One more thing, having to pay extra for the room safe is a bit ridiculous.
Review 33:Beautiful resort on a quite lonely natural beach. We didn't know such beaches even existed in Spain which is infamous for ruining its coasts by mass tourism. We loved it! The pool area is nice too. Room was sunny and spacious with a balcony overlooking the pool. Reception staff are very friendly. We recommend the excellent and inexpensive grilled fish platter at the restaurant.
Review 34:A problem major to us (which to be fair was based on a misunderstanding) was not dealt with at all. The atmosphere was definitely that of a holiday Camp. Didn't suit us at all. Hated it.
Review 35:The beach. Good shower and bed linen.
Review 36:Noise levels (at night), due to hard floors and no sound proofing in rooms. also had a function area outside our room. We stayed out of season, so was relatively quiet apart from a couple of nights, so I would not like to stay in peak season. Bar and restaurant prices. eat locally as it's much cheaper!
Review 37:The room(s). We had a suite over looking the tennis courts at the rear of the hotel. The cleanliness. Spotless. The Staff. Really friendly and helpful. The location. Right on the beach.
Review 38:Everything was perfect - the staff, the situation, the weather, the facilities - we just loved it all. Manuel was fantastic the night we arrived at 2 in the morning - he even managed to get us a take away which we ate on the balcony of our room. Esmeralda was incredible - she should be working for the UN! Loved it all!!
Review 39:The restaurant by the pool didn't do the best food. We were pretty disappointed by the quality of that, but if you wanted a quick bite it would keep you going until dinner. Theres a really nice 2nd pool on the roof with a gym, however you have to pay an extra charge to use this space and you can't pay daily only for the whole stay or from day 3 till the end etc. In addition to this you then have to pay an extra charge to sit on the nice beds. So thats a bit disappointing to pay so much then have to pay extra again. The rooms didn't have a kettle. Being British thats a pretty big thumbs down. The food was amazing in the restaurant out by the beach however we did get terrible food poisoning from the prawns on our last night. I'm sure it was an unfortunate isolated event, but it did rather ruin our last 24 hours and make our journey home like hell on earth. Despite this our other meals were amazing, and i would go back! (Just not for the prawns) If you wanted to go to a different restaurant or to a bar on the beach it is a 40 min walk if you don't have a car, luckily we like walking. But there is a really lovely little beach bar we forgot the name but it has a surfer vibe, you won't miss it. If your a foodie, this is probably not the place for you. We found it hard to find food we liked in and around Rota, we're not fussy just maybe spoilt living in London, but we found it hard.
Review 40:On arriving the staff were very welcoming. The hotel itself is very nice and kept very well. We had a great pool view, if you don't have a good view it would be disappointing. The pool area is lovely with trees casting shade and the great sized swimming pool. They did activities also like zumba in the water and things for kids. If you don't want to take beach towels the hotel do a towel rental for 5 Euro deposit and you have two hours a day to change it, brilliant service all free. The positioning of the hotel right on the beach was lovely. If you like walking its a 40 minute walk from the hotel into the town along the beach, this was great for us but if you don't like walking much its not so great for you. There is a restaurant on the beach side of the hotel that did very good fresh fish and you can watch the sun set on 180 degree view of the sea...beautiful. Also a cocktail bar above this looking cross the sea and across to the view of cadiz. The staff were all very kind and helpful. the room we had was a comfy and cleaned every day. We are a a couple in our mid 20's and if you like a holiday to chill out and relax its a great place, but if you want to have a bit of a party theres not much going on. If you want a super chilled environment, with lovely staff its a great place to go. We don't have kids but it would be great for a family with a car, and for anyone wanted to shut off and have total relaxation. The beach is just HUGE and sometimes the tide comes right in and theres very little beach, and sometimes its right out and the beach is huge, we liked this it was beautiful. The local town Rota is nice to walk around and its easy to get a boat over to Cadiz for the day. There are also buses that run to Seville etc the reception will tell you all about that.
Review 41:Small beds
Review 42:Friendly staff, clean rooms, good location on beach
Review 43:Location and breakfast buffet
Review 44:I love the landscaping of the property. Also the beach front location.
Review 45:Directional signage Close to beach Our room was quiet
Review 46:Overpriced
Review 47:Great location
Review 48:They should have more staff around the swimming pool
Review 49:The place was very clean
Review 50:Other than my bed, I have nothing else to complain .
Review 51:The staff and amenities.
Review 52:This hotel leads directly on to a beautiful beach. The accommodation is clean and very comfortable and the breakfast is second to none.
Review 53:Cost of breakfast
Review 54:Location and facilities
Review 55:Excellent staff, great location
Review 56:The room was a wonderful surprise. The food was good, the service was amazing, and they were very accommodating.
Review 57:Proximity to beach
Review 58:Perfect location! Right on the beach
Review 59:Lovely location surrounded by sand dunes. Right on the beach with about a 20 minute walk into Rota.
Review 60:There was no toilet brush! :)))))
Review 61:Everyting was cool! Nice place, clean room, excellent garden with pool. We got a very good price... ;)
Review 62:Everything!
Review 63:Nothing
Review 64:Everything! Buffet dinner and breakfast had varied choices and was excellent. Staff very friendly and efficient. Room small but very clean.
Review 65:Distance to city centre altough you can rent a bike, take the bus, have a nice walk on the beach
Review 66:Staff Location Facilities
Review 67:nothing.
Review 68:Location, facilities.
Review 69:Food at restaurants was very average at best.
Review 70:Great staff. Location on the beach was perfect. Pool courtyard was beautiful.
Review 71:Refrigerator smelled bad.
Review 72:Beach!
Review 73:bed uncomfortable, did not sleep well.
Review 74:Everything, the pool, the food, the beech and to room
Review 75:Pool closed at 19.30
Review 76:Hotel staff who were knowlegable helpful and friendly plus complimentary bottle of bubbly for my hubbies 50th a lovely surprise
Review 77:Beautiful hotel. Like a botanical garden on the Gulf of Cadiz.
Review 78:you need a car
Review 79:A great place, I would go back immedeately...
Review 80:Rota is not an easy place to find by car. The same is true when leaving the town. We found that the drinks in the hotel bar sherry were vastly over priced.
Review 81:Absolutely everything! We were upgraded to a junior suite which was extremely spacious and comfortable! The staff were delightful and nothing was too much trouble. The food was fantastic, beautifully presented and delicious. Smiles and laughter everywhere. Can´t wait to go again!
Review 82:the cleaning staff was a bit persistent but that made me leave for the beach early
Review 83:there is nothing I did not like, even the evening meal buffet was great. a special mention belongs to the staff which contributes a big part to the enchantment of the hotel
Review 84:Beds were soft. Food in buffet warm not hot. Beach not very swimmable and very windy. A long long walk to center of town for restaurants, etc.
Review 85:staff helpful; extra sofa and sitting area; beach chairs were nice to be able to use
Review 86:Charge for beds in front on terrace.in the middle of nowhere so stuck in hotel unless you took a taxi into rota for rubbish food.we were under the understanding we had booked a superior room through yourselves and when we arrived we were allocated a twin room which was inadequate for my disabled wife.we paid extra to upgrade to a tired superior room.we got back to our room to find the card key was not unlocking the door.i went back to reception and they gave me another key which also did not work.3 times later they sent a repair man who told us the battery neede changing and he would be back tomorrow.at approx 9.30 am I returned to reception to explain we could not rest and furthermore we could not go to breakfast as we could not lock the door with our valuables inside.i asked to see the manager to complain only to be told he wasn't present.needless to say we paid for 1night and returned home with our looked forward to,30 anniversary ruined.i would also like to add that we certainly will not be entertaining your company in the future.we are so disappointed with the whole fiasco ruining a well planned and looked forward to special occasion.
Review 87:The fact I had to stay only 1 night
Review 88:- a bit far from the city centre which can be as well a benefit as a drawback - good as it's calm and isolated from the noise - a bit difficult to get there but the taxis are easy to find everywhere and not expensive.
Review 89:- excellent place - gorgeous hotel with atmosphere - super friendly reception and service - comfortable room - swimming pool - beautiful surroundings
Review 90:The room was a little dated but quite large, so the space made up for it! I think the cost was a little much as it was low season and the hotel wasn't full, but overall it was nice.
Review 91:I highly recommend getting the ocean view for the extra fee, it made the difference. Staff were pleasant when we had questions and the beach was lovely....:). The room had two bathrooms where the shower/bath was in a separate room so it offered options as there was two of us!
Review 92:Very interesting interior, all white/cream, but warm. It feels like you are in big house with yard. Gives comfort and privacy. Beautiful view on the ocean and Cadiz. Close to town but sourounded by trees.
Review 93:The quality of the food in the restaurant was very poor. Being a seasoned travel I can honestly say it was the worst food I have ever experienced. The meat dishes were over cooked and cold.
Review 94:The accomdation was good
Review 95:Careful, the distance to Cadiz is not 13 km as indicated but 44 km - just take this into account
Review 96:Great place to spend a vacation, right on the beach, very friendly staff
Review 97:No problems with anything really. Everything I wanted or needed was there.
Review 98:Room was clean. Room facilities were very good. Breakfast was excellent, staff very friendly.
Review 99:Full of surprises. Even if the prices looks to be a bargain, you can feel the effort to convert the place to ATM. The point where we had that feeling was, when you get into room, you notice there is a safe in place(nice). When you try to use it you come to know you need to get token back from the (200m away)reception (just 1 EUR by the way). Is it really worth it? Don't like that feeling on the holiday. If you are the kind who like to control those sorts of things.
Review 100:Clean
Review 101:First impression was disappointing for a 4* hotel, especially the standard room, so we upgraded. Also needing some small renovations. Nothing much to do in the near area. Photo's are misleading because you have to pay extra and it isn't mentioned in the discription (eg the white sunbeds with overhead cover)
Review 102:Breakfast and dinner buffet were good, friendly and helpful staff and clean room. The sunbathing area around the pool was nice and especially the rooftop chill bar in the evening.
Review 103:It was a bit mass production. The breakfasts were great, but meant to deal with large numbers. It was not personalized at all.
Review 104:I liked the location and the fact that it was a self-contained resort.
Review 105:Liked it all.
Review 106:Friendliness of staff, Bus to Cadiz, breakfast, clean and comfortable room, free car park and choices for dinner, also planned activities for all age groups.
Review 107:The food was not of as high a standard as other elements ...we had ahamburger one night and it was less than satisfactory ....we took a taxiinto Rota at night to eat
Review 108:Wonderful decor, friendly staff, location, beautiful room, two wonderfulpools....great flowers...well cared for grounds
Review 109:The food prices were a little high, no way to make coffee in the room. Everything else was fabulous!
Review 110:I loved everything! Great value, beautiful lobby and swimming pool, friendly staff, best beach location ever!
Review 111:FOOD! Breakfast was always more than satisfactory BUT the evening Dinner was a disappointment--Salads and cold Buffet a good choice .BUT the hot food selection was very poor in choice and in Quality. This was very noticiable if one arrived a little later during the evening ,.On our three visits to the restuarant the dinner did not on any occassion be worth 22 euros per person.Very dissappionting.!!
Review 112:The staff at hotel was very helpful and nothing was ever too much trouble. The staff,s attitude was excellent and we have never experienced such helpfulness at other hotels in the past.
Review 113:The pull out couch was not that comfortable for my 12 year old. The 10 year old was ok with it.
Review 114:It was great to walk right out to the beach. The walk to Rota center was only 10-15 minutes along the shoreline. Breakfast was fabulous. The bar really great for a late afternoon drink and or a snack. Dinners were excellent at the restaurant also. But dining in Rota is not far away for some variety. The shower/bathtub room was nice in size.
Review 115:Nothing really.
Review 116:Fortunately it was empty when we stayed and getting ready for theseason. It is a delightful layout with helpful and friendly staff. Ishould imagine that when full it would be uncomfortable for us. Therestaurant was not really operational but they offered to transport usto their sister hotel, which we did not take up, but did go to the localrestaurant in walking distance that was well worth it.
Review 117:They do not offer covered swimming pool, nor spa which should beincluded for a hotel at its level.
Review 118:We booked a double room but received a junior suite instead, greatsurprise. The room was spacious , next to the beach with view at thesea. The staff was very nice.
Review 119:En joyful stay! Wonderful customer service! An amazing breakfast program! Good rooms, good comfort and very nice beach side infrastructure!
Review 120:Playa de la Luz is an exquisite hotel that has all the luxuaries for anyone vacationing. The grounds are beautiful and the service was awesome.
Review 121:nothing
Review 122:Staff, security ,luxury, facilities comfort, on site shaded parking, closeness of sea
Review 123:the location, on the beach and with no other building around the style the rooms and bathrooms the excellent value for money
Review 124:Great location, very quaint and a good value
Review 125:Too far from city center. In Rota are better hotels same price in the city center.
Review 126:The staff are nice and helpful.
Review 127:We were upgraded to a room with a double bed and ocean view.
Review 128:Good location to explore one of the real parts of Spain.
