Reviews for Fairfield House Hotel
Review 1:Loud noises through the night, perhaps from the plumbing system. Expensive G&T, poor breakfast. Many, many doors and stairs from car to room so travel light!
Review 2:Spacious room
Review 3:on arrival designated room was not cleaned to all high standard.... bathroom dirty, stains on sheets, furnishings in bad state and room was cold.
Review 4:good night sleep and helpful staff
Review 5:Unfortunately our room was draughty and therefore cold. However we were moved to another room which was top quality without fuss, full marks!
Review 6:Staff and breakfast very good! Decor a little tired looking!
Review 7:Our room was freezing and didnt heat up at all!! Our window had a bad draft and we had to close the curtains to try and keep the draft down. There was a a nail clipping on the bathroom floor (which wasnt ours). Our room was above the function suite with a very noisy Christmas patry on.
Review 8:The food was amazing, dinner and breakfast. The resteraunt staff were lovely, we had the full resteraunt to ourself nearly all night.
Review 9:We went for a spa break and there was kids swimming lessons in the pool all day Saturday, not very relaxing!! TV in room tiny and sitting very low making it difficult to see, receptionist couldn't speak as mouth was full!! Don't eat on duty when guests are around! Very diss appointing that we were not allowed to dine in the conservatory despite it being set for dinner and then cleared without being used,!
Review 10:The service in the restaurant was excellent
Review 11:we were in the burns room the problem was the shower yes i no this is a small point but we could only have baths as the temperature was to hot in the shower
Review 12:the food was realy good
Review 13:AC has to be turned on by at the reception every day.
Review 14:Location close to city center. Internet was better than other hotels but that maybe because of fewer guests during this time of the year.
Review 15:The bed was not the most comfortable & the sofa had seen better days. The pool is also used on Saturdays for kids swimming lessons- would have been nice to know in advance.
Review 16:Loved the mix of period furniture in the suite we were in which was an upgrade so we could be closer to friend's room! Staff were very helpful and polite. A lovely relaxing break with friends.
Review 17:Room 51 allocated was very cold as window did not shut properly and rain was gathering on window sill 2nd room 49 was a lot better apart from lumpy bed
Review 18:Staff very efficient and friendly. Food was excellent.
Review 19:menu changed not such a good selection as previously, choosing Fairfield was also because of this. Also presentation of starter asked for as main meal badly presented with a shallot cut into four large pieces raw on the plate! Also, second visit where room is late with servicing.
Review 20:Like the style of hotel, my third visit.
Review 21:The hotel itself was lovely our room (38) however was a little dated in terms of décor. But we were just a standard room the photos of the others look beautiful.
Review 22:Really nice hotel, wish we'd known about the spa and pool as we would've definitely made use of that! Staff all very freindly and accommodating and the breakfast was delicious.
Review 23:Had to wait until Ten past 3 to get into room when check in was for 2'o'clock But apart from that couldn't fault it
Review 24:Hotel was real class. Big Room and huge bathroom. One of the best hotels in Ayr. Obviously why Liverpool band Cast chose this hotel too for the same night as us.
Review 25:Although still nice, I was given one of the older bedrooms which was looking dated and a little bit tatty.
Review 26:The staff make you feel so welcome. The Food is superb and the rooms are very comfortable with excellent beds. I Always stay in this hotel if it's available when I'm in Ayr.
Review 27:We were made to feel welcome as soon as we got there with happy obliging staff, A hotel worthy of its star rating. We were told on arrival that there would be a wedding party arriving shortly and dining would be in the restaurant that evening and we could still order from the Grill menu. Our room was large and very comfortable and located away from the wedding party so we didn't hear anything from them all night. It had a massive bathroom with good furnishings. The evening meal and breakfast were good value and very good quality. The location of the hotel is good and very private with easy access to the seafront. This is a hotel I would recommend to anyone wanting the service of a four star hotel with staff who just couldn't do enough for you. Well done to all of you. Hopefully we'll be back.
Review 28:Didn't lie the rooms outside . We were moved within the hotel and our holiday went really well from then on. Would not recommend the chalet type rooms to anyone who likes a view, easy access but cell like .
Review 29:I love this hotel , great views, easy access and plenty parking. The food is to die for.
Review 30:A few staff not very helpful when asked about some things it felt like we were hassling them, Was lady on desk, and one at breakfast
Review 31:Beautiful room excellent location
Review 32:No problems
Review 33:Came to attend wedding recpt in ayr.staff were exc and friendly, but forgot to order papers.hotel lovely and very comfortable.food very nice.
Review 34:The food was wonderful, beautifully presented. Staff helpful and the suite was amazing, large with a little courtyard. The bathroom was spacious with a Jacuzzi.
Review 35:The room was extremely dated and old fashioned, also dust on the kettle and furniture looks like it had not been cleaned for a while,
Review 36:Main reception area is very nice to sit and have a drink,
Review 37:Asked for a bed side lamp with no available socket to be checked before dinner. Nothing done. A room with no view . Had to close the curtains because people could see us in bed.
Review 38:Meeting friends in comfortable surroundings
Review 39:Some other guest had pinched the DVD player
Review 40:Lovely surprise to be given a suite with a jacuzzi and at a budget price. Really tasty food and peter how son pictures in the restaurant a nice touch. View of sunset over Arran priceless
Review 41:We paid for excutive room same as other 2 couple we were with, there room was bigger and the bed was superking while ours was king, but it was still nice
Review 42:Staff were very nice and helpfull, rooms were not ready due to being busy the night before, but we all got a complimentray drink while we waited
Review 43:only downside i would say would be the beds they are very hard and uncomfortable
Review 44:the location was fantastic hotel was very clean and tidy and breakfast was brilliant catered for everyone and the leisure facilities were very good
Review 45:Everything was excellent
Review 46:Accommodation location staff and meals were all first class. Would strongly recommend this hotel for overnight stay or longer.
Review 47:The bed was very poorly dressed, the duvet cover did not fit the duvet. The pillows were very shabby, and the bed did not have a valance frill or a smart quilt.
Review 48:The breakfast was very generous and tasty. There were crumbs on the carpet , when you pulled in your chair, you crunched them into the carpet.
Review 49:The noise from the kitchen was very obtrusive and unacceptable. Once our room was changed no more problems. Furniture in first room dated and threadbare.
Review 50:The staff were very helpful and pleasant.
Review 51:Our room had a mirror instead of a window meaning the room was very dark, more so as one of the bedside lamps wasn't working. Staff seemed preoccupied (at best) and certainly (on this visit) not customer focussed.
Review 52:I used to stay in this hotel many many years ago when it had very high standards. Returning for this visit left me disappointed, more with the overall experience than any specific aspect (see negatives). The staff as a group seemed disillusioned apart from one (male) waiter at dinner and two (female) breakfast staff, who all made the effort, and we struggled to get a smile from the remainder never mind a friendly word. Could be a brilliant hotel but definitely lacking for this visit and will look elsewhere in future
Review 53:On arrival we were booked for a double room. The hotel receptionist arranged for the double bed to made into two twin beds. Whilst in the bedroom the hotel receptionist visited the room to tell us that we were being upgraded. All in all a very pleasant experience and the house staff was very helpful and pleasant. I would definitely stay here again.
Review 54:Bed was almost like a futon - hard as a rock and too close to the ground.
Review 55:Hotel was a little difficult to maneuver with all the fire doors, lugging suitcases through all the pathways was a bit tough
Review 56:very dated decor and furniture. small window that had stone decoration from roof in front of it. air conditioner unit only seemed to push air around not cool. ?? if really 4star. Have stayed in much more comfortable 3 star hotels.
Review 57:position near beach
Review 58:first room I got was upstairs and boiling and no remote for aircon, took a while to sort issue out but got moved room in the end and much better, drinks expensive in bar
Review 59:downstairs was nice
Review 60:This is our 4th visit to the Fairfield Hotel. We asked for a sea view but, unfortunately, we didn't get one. Maybe next time?
Review 61:Comfortable, clean room and friendly staff
Review 62:Very helpful staff who changed our room without any problems. Rooms are very clean and well appointed if dated. Restaurant is lovely with excellent service and wonderful food. The pool was small and 75% was roped off for local swimming lessons which was a little disappointing, particularly as it wasn't mentioned on booking and is a regular weekend occurrence. Otherwise, a good hotel in a great location with lovely views across to Arran.
Review 63:Loved having a drink on the decking with amazing views over to Arran. The welcome was fabulous and the accommodation and facilities were top notch. Seemed we were a million miles away from any town, yet Ayr centre was just a wee walk away. Superb.
Review 64:Bed very low and quite soft.
Review 65:Fantastic views and great position of the hotel. Lovely big bedroom and bathroom. Friendly staff - especially at breakfast. Great breakfast selection.
Review 66:The reception staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food in the bar/restaurant was excellent and served efficiently with a smile! Room (15) was spacious and immaculately clean.
Review 67:We where in a dark bedroom the loo would not flush even after someone looked at it 3 times so we where not happy at all there was no light in the room as the small window had a tree in front off it we where told by the cleaner that it was a bad room and every one has said about the loo if we had not been there for a wedding we would not have stayed
Review 68:We were in room 53 it was too noisy (looked onto leisure club roof)stains on the carpet, water marks on the ceiling,no bed cover on the base of the bed and a small tv,didnt think hotels used these anymore and there were items left in a drawer from previous occupant.iv stayed in cheaper hotels and had much nicer rooms. Was very disapointed.
Review 69:The quality of food and the staff were excellent
Review 70:Bedroom good but very poor outlook, noise from extractors went on all night both of a constant and intermittent nature. Had prev. changed booking to an exec room - hotel not aware but offer to change was not suitable to proximity of other room.
Review 71:Food, staff and place in general.
Review 72:I felt that the size of the tv compared to size of the room was too small.
Review 73:Location of hotel was ideal. We had an executive room, bathroom was ideal especially the size of the bath, ideal for soaking the in. Distance to the beach was just a short walk.
Review 74:Room faced inwards to other bedroom window, which for privacy were frosted - not very pleasant. Voile screens would have been much better.
Review 75:Friendly and efficient local staff and outstanding food! Very spacious bedroom and bathroom.
Review 76:Churchill Suite very good room, completely ruined by the continuous noise from extractor fans. Advised by staff that these should have been switched off at 22.00 hrs but during our stay remained on 24/7. Full Scottish breakfast was dry as if it had been prepared very early and kept warm under heat lamps.
Review 77:Location. Staff were excellent and the smoked salmon, kippers and haddock for breakfast were superb.
Review 78:room was very old, needs freshened up, radiator not working (small replacement was available) wallpaper was hanging off in some bits, overall shabby.
Review 79:proximity to the beach
Review 80:staff were good , breakfast excellent ,room overlooked sea and was lovely and cosy as it was windy outside and not that warm . shower was good as well
Review 81:Only downside was our room was outside the housekeepers utility rooms, which made is slightly noisy in the mornings with the door slamming out into the patio area!
Review 82:Really friendly staff and couldnt be more helpful. Lovely hotel, room was an excellent soze and very comfortable.
Review 83:The double bed was made up of two singles pushed together. The bed was very hard and slightly uncomfortable.
Review 84:A sea view with a short walk to the beach and shops. Friendly, cheerful and helpful staff. Very nice lounge, bar and restaurant, all with a welcoming appearance and a friendly atmosphere. Large bedroom and bathroom. small but adequate swimming pool.
Review 85:Room 1. Unable to open or close window from floor level. Didn't get to sleep until 4-00 am. for constant noise from outside even with makeshift earplugs. We were too tired to continue our short break so had to check out after breakfast and drive home.
Review 86:Staff veryefficient and welcoming
Review 87:No complaints
Review 88:Travelled by train and the hotel was 5 minutes from station by taxi and was also short taxi ride to racecourse which was the reason for our stay. The staff were very friendly and breakfast and evening meals were spot on
Review 89:The staff from the moment we arrived to when we left were fantastic. Best service I have ever had at a hotel. Food, facilities and location cannot be faulted.
Review 90:nothing really bad except parking spaces are small and only one disabled space which was not good but we worked round it and one morning when someone had parked so close that I could not get into my car a member of staff came out and clambered through my car to pull it forward for me which was very generous of her
Review 91:Amazing hotel - I'm partially disabled and the staff were so helpful even one lovely young man who passed us in the corridor grasping his coffee obviously on his break but he very kindly carried out bags down to reception which was such a lovely gesture - food was amazing and portions of a very good size with good choices - highly recommend
Review 92:Room was a bit dated and chairs in bedroom uncomfortable.
Review 93:food choice did not seem appealing, however the meal was excellent. Not very exciting choice of food, but tasted good and well presented.
Review 94:Room itself was a bit basic, nothing worth remembering or writing about, no view from window and bathroom extractor fan was noisy, other than that it was okay
Review 95:Staff were welcoming, reception and bar area were nice and food was amazing, very surprised but if we return it might possibly be for lunch, delicious!
Review 96:4 poster bed too firm for me (but then I wasn't there on honeymoon!).
Review 97:We had the honeymoon suite with gothic style 4 poster bed - very grand. Gorgeous with spa bath for two. Dinner from both menus, equally delicious. The staff were not just very helpful, but friendly and funny and nice to have a few locals working there. Excellent price.
Review 98:Dirty tea/coffee tray, coffee table broke fan in bahroom noisy. Tray replaced table removed. As it was our ruby anniversary cards ruined as rain poured through window frame. To be fair we were given a large discount but the occasion was ruined.
Review 99:Location,food, leisure facilities all good.Plate decorated with anniversary wishes and cake was a nice touch.
Review 100:Was in room 43, non smoking directly adjacent to a quadrangle which accomodated smoking facilities for patrons & staff. This caused secondary smoke to enter room, not pleasant.
Review 101:The staff, facilities, food and hotel i would rate a 8/10. Both my wife and i would use this hotel again for a short break
Review 102:Was a hair in my dinner. In checkout I was given another rooms bill which was higher than mine. Didn't know until checkout there was free wifi. Was a queue for breakfast but come 09.30hrs all breakfast was away and we were rushed out the door even though I had to wait 25 muns on a cooked breakfast.
Review 103:Free access to pool
Review 104:Carnegie suite is situated at double door entry to gym on a busy ground floor corridor. Doors slammed till midnight, then again from 7am... Walls rattled when the doors slammed.
Review 105:Stayed in carnegie suite. Lovely room.
Review 106:Greatly placed near the beach and the town. Bar and Restaurant stunning, always enjoy our stay at the Fairfield, hard to beat for night or two away! Loved the food in the Restaurant for dinner, very well presented and served. Staff always lovely and go out their way to help. We will be back very soon.
Review 107:due to the bar keeping us awake i had a do not disturb sign on my door in the morning ,on the burns suite and got woken with staff cleaning the suite next door shouting and singing loudly in the room and while going along the hall, the tv music channel was also full blast.
Review 108:nice breakfast
Review 109:Was relaxing pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room where brilliant. Staff where brilliant and the room was a good size. All our needs where catered for. Thank you Fairfield house.
Review 110:We found this hotel to be top class. The location was ideal and the room was large, clean and comfortable (the tea and coffee making facilities were a nice touch). The free-to-use pool and health suite were immaculate and well run.
Review 111:The bed and pillows were both hard and very uncomfortable to sleep on.
Review 112:The staff and hotel were lovely but thought it was dear for only bed and breakfast for time of year.It would have been worth it on a dinner bed and breakfast basis at price we paid.
Review 113:Staff although friendly were somewhat indifferent. Radiator was stuck in on position so room was too warm. Leisure facilities are not as good as some other hotels in the same price range. Sauna and steam room are too small. Changing facilities are cramped.
Review 114:Room large and comfortable. Quiet undisturbed nights sleep. Good view from window. Good shower and bath.
Review 115:On our return at mid-night there was no staff at reception or anywhere else to be found. We were able to help ourselves to our key (or anyone's keys for that matter) On entering our room it was freezing, we were later told that the heating had been turned off ...in Jan !!! Reported it to staff Staff too busy selling alcohol to help, eventually visited room then reappeared and dumped a few electric heaters in the room and left, no help to set up etc. Electric fan heaters running all night. Dreadful !!!!!
Review 116:Paid for superior room and first room offered definitely was not. Claustrophobic and frosted glass window felt you were in a cupboard. 2nd room better but bed lights do not work unless main light is also on. Defeats the object of a bed light if you also havve to have the main light on. Weird! Shaving mirror hanging loose on wall. Connecting lead from electric kettle to extension cable unsafe. When room uncomfortably hot heating control inoperable and windows unable to open. When helpful receptionist brought two free standing bedlights one could not be used as due to an amateurish cut out the light socket did not have sufficient clearance to receive the light plug. Milk in courtesy tray left unsightly floating residue in coffee. This is not what I expect from a supposed 4 star hotel, especially in a superior room.
Review 117:Dinner menus. The food is pretentious, overpriced with poor choice of dishes.
Review 118:The room was as generous as the bed. Warm comfortable. Friendly helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.
Review 119:The room was cold when we arrived and the heating system required some adjustment, (turning it on and setting the thermostat!). Once that was done a comfortable temperature was soon reached. The door security was a little uncertain since the key had to be turned to lock the door of the room on going out. We were in fact disturbed by a maintenance man at about 8 a.m. It was a mistake, but rather a disturbing one. The Receptionist was very understanding and all is forgiven.
Review 120:A warm welcome, friendly staff and a clean comfortable room. No excessive noise at night and an excellent breakfast.
Review 121:After my swim showers cold had to go to room to have a shower wash my hair.water in pool could have been a little warmer.
Review 122:Relaxed in the pool for a swim used the sauna and jacuzzi food in restaurant very nice excellent service staff really good, breakfast food lovely good menu room was lovely.
Review 123:Enjoyed a relaxing three nights. The welcome of the reception staff, the bar /restaurant staff, the house keeping service and the excellent menu, made this break a very pleasant experience. Highly recommend and will undoubtedly return soon
Review 124:I gave good rating for manners of staff only because when our room service came the woman looked verry unhappy braught tray in and ran out door before we even said thanks
Review 125:I that the room was excellent and facilities and the prices
Review 126:Had booked executive modern double room but did not have this then proceeded to show me 6 other rooms but only standard ended up with family room very customer service would not go back again
Review 127:Room service was good breakfast also good.
Review 128:Wasn't there long enough to say I didn't like any of the place because all that I seen was good
Review 129:Liked the ambience and comfort of the place and as we didn't take the car it was only five minute walk from station or you could take a taxi
Review 130:Myself and my husband stayed for a night dinner bed and breakfast, room was excellent with sea views, the evening meal was beautiful and so was the breakfast, we have actually booked to return with our 2 children in February
Review 131:There was a chip in the bath which could be easily repaired. Staff seemed to be over stretched at breakfast time, long waiting time for cooked breakfast.
Review 132:Fabulous location. Our room was very spacious with a lovely view down the coast. Excellent barman, made superb cocktails! Food at dinner and breakfast was very good.
Review 133:Room poor no view poor quality for example bath surround all cracked and mouldy could have easily been maintained also tea spoon not been Washed and clearly been used made us feel uncomfrartble to think what else has been over looked !!?
Review 134:Lovley setting good price friendly staff
