Reviews for Abbaye de Talloires

Review 1:I expected the room to be slightly bigger/ more luxurious based on advertised photos on website (room and bathroom), but it didn't spoil the overall impression. At dinner I thought that main plat was extremely small for an adult and a bit overpriced. Also tables were very close together, could hear other tables' conversation. On the other hand loved the wine selection and professionalism and friendliness of dinner staff serving, especially help to chose wine. Overall perfect place for a luxurious romantic getaway.

Review 2:The historic feel of the property and picturesque location. Breakfast was amazing. Staff were highly professional, friendly and relaxed. Wonderful experience.

Review 3:rooms could be bigger / with more amenities.

Review 4:Amazing location in front of beautiful lake of Annecy. Very romantic / quiet place surrounded by beauty and great restaurants

Review 5:We were in the cheaper of the room categories and it seemed pricey for what you get, but then I realized we were paying for private dock access to the lake, beautiful gardens and all the other facilities. The room then became unimportant, since we sat outside most of the afternoon and evening.

Review 6:Stunning location on the lake for this historic stone building. Dining or having a drink in the beautiful gardens makes this place very special. We were very pleased that we stayed here.

Review 7:Room small with too much furniture, so gave the feel of poky. Balcony very, very small, but it was an outside space. Bathroom had shower over bath, and no extractor fan, so unusable for makeup, and nowhere in bedroom for that either. No lift.

Review 8:Location excellent. Wallpaper and tiling in bathroom stylish.

Review 9:No air-conditioning. No pool. Average breakfast for the price. Wi-fi variable. Expensive overall.

Review 10:Outstanding levels of service. Truly beautiful setting. Comfortable rooms.

Review 13:Price for breakfast and not much to do in the village. Instead of breakfast we ordered cappuccino with mini-croissant. We were told it would be 4 euro's for one person, but on the invoice it was 7.50. It was no cappuccino at all (we could compare with the evening before), but just coffee with milk and "the price was the same". Anyway, the staf made a lot of trouble when I explained them about the price we were told, which was really a pity. Didn't like to leave with that experience.

Review 14:The hotel in an old Abbey, the wifi, the bed, the view, the silence.

Review 15:Perfect location on the lake. It was very quiet in October so we were able to have lunch in one of the rooms by the cloister. One of the best meals of our 3 week trip. Very relaxing and very appreciated at day 17 of an otherwise busy trip. Will go back whenever we can.

Review 16:Although we were aware that the restaurant was closed on a Monday, disappointed that there were no alternatives for eating either ally found excellent Alsacian restaraunt in Annecy.

Review 17:Excellent location, friendly staff and comfortable room

Review 18:Breakfast was pricey

Review 19:Lovely location and lunch in garden was delightful. Our visit coincided with a jazz evening that was well arranged with a reception and dinner.

Review 20:Historic converted Abby in Beautiful surroundings. The Hotel staff were polite, friendly and very helpful. The atmosphere from the past was retained with lots of antique furniture at the same time as the Hotel had been gently modernized.

Review 21:Reception taking place under our room Not pre-warned in time that restaurant had a special menu for the evening

Review 22:Location Food Views Comfort Fireworks/concert on lake

Review 23:Breakfast not included in overnight rate. It was €100 for our family each day and there was very limited amount of food - hardly any fruit, the only melon was watermelon and most days this ran out early. The cheese and ham also seemed to need replenishing whenever we were there. The coffee was very weak, not at all like proper French coffee. We ended up going to a local cafe for good coffee and croissants! The evening restaurant was wonderful on the two occasions we ate there, however it is so pricey that you cannot do this every night (around €400 for our family of 4 including a bottle of wine) and the food is too 'fancy' for younger children. It would have improved our stay if there had also been a less formal, cheaper 'bistro' style menu. However there is a very good value local restaurant a short walk away at the local Talloires beach.

Review 24:Location - peaceful with uplifting lake views and nice lakeside sundeck

Review 25:No lift and very high ceilings so each floor had 2 flights of stairs. I would have liked to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room.

Review 26:The staff were charming and helpful, our rooms was small but comfortable, but as it was a Benedictine Monastery the monks wouldn't have had large cells! Lovely old features are retained especially the ceilings and stone work. There is private pontoon with loungers for sunbathing and steps for a swim in the lake. Dinner was served in the peaceful garden with lovely cream blankets to keep the chill off.

Review 27:Wouldn't go as far as say don't like but our room/bathroom could have done with an update but it didn't detract from overall very positive experience & wouldn't stop me returning

Review 28:It was lovely - very relaxing & beautiful building - perfect setting. Delicious dinner as well.

Review 29:some rooms are a bit basic for the price charged but if you get a view of the lake then I guess this is justified.

Review 30:Location, good food and wine list and helpful staff

Review 31:Hotel seems to be stuck in a bit of a rut, staff not very helpful food not good poor menu for supper we went the the hotel next door to eat much nicer

Review 32:We liked the lake

Review 33:Rain and more rain ! Mattresses were soft .not good for back.

Review 34:Helpful friendly service Beautifull use and refurbishment of old building. Good dining room, food and service.

Review 35:Price of food and drink at hotel very high ... But plenty of shops nearby for breakfast, and lots of good restaurants. But area generally pricey.

Review 36:Everything was wonderful, could hardly have been better

Review 37:French hotel breakfasts cost too much. Italy and Austria do bed and breakfast - much better idea

Review 38:the lake view is fabulous

Review 39:A bit shabby in places

Review 40:Lovely old hotel, nice staff, wonderful location Excellent restaurant Breakfast good but overpriced

Review 41:Immerse in old world heritage in this Abbey turned hotel. The location, view and ambience are unbeatable.

Review 42:Needs an upgrade.

Review 43:Charming old building in great location.

Review 44:The bed was very low and uncomfortable.

Review 45:The location was beautiful with water facilities and a boat to tour round the island.

Review 46:The restaurant was closed Monday and Tuesday, the two days we were there.

Review 47:It was beautifully quiet and very comfortable.

Review 48:Attractive setting. Very pleasant hotel and staff.

Review 49:Could do with easier parking for larger cars.

Review 50:The restaurant was outstanding. The location superb.

Review 51:Floors creaky so fears of disturbing other guests.

Review 52:Lovely comfortable bed with a fabulous view of the lake.

Review 53:Breakfast 25E we went up the road fab

Review 54:View

Review 55:not a lot of on site parking

Review 56:The location was very quite and relaxing.

Review 57:Lies about non acceptance of Diners Card. Attitude of front desk

Review 58:Position and breakfast staff

Review 59:Nothing we have for a long time visited Talloires and looked at this hotel it is in a great location but you would have to have a good budget to stay for a holiday of any length and not sure if its value for money.

Review 60:Excellent location with a nice view of the lake. Only used as a stop over so hard to comment, however breakfast/main meal was very expensive so make sure you come with enough money if staying for a holiday.

Review 61:No breakfast included. Hotel restaurant was not open Monday and Tuesday evenings.

Review 62:We loved the location and the ambiance. The service was excellent and friendly. dinner in the Hotel restaurant was excellent.

Review 63:Obviously the owners cash in on the location of the hotel, which is understandable but not to the extent of the cost. It is claimed that the restaurant is "gourmey" but the food was very disappointing. As it was mother's day they said there was a special menu at 60 euros. It could not have cost them 10 euros to prepare. Skip breakfast at 25 euros

Review 64:The hotel is very attractive and beautifully situated. There is a convenient ferry to Annecy. The reception staff were excellent. The first night we were in a room that was adequate but we were upgraded the second night to a large room looking over the lake.

Review 65:I booked a room with side view of lake and garden with balcony. The room was number 18 right at the back - more a view of overgrown back yard with unsightly awning! Pitty.

Review 66:The location and staff were excellent. When I realised the restaurant was closed on the evening of my husbands birthday they took the trouble to book a table at the neighbouring hotel who in turn produced a surprise birthday cake. Brlliant service.

Review 67:Having a lot of renovations done which spoilt the front however I suppose these things need to be done at some point. It is in a lovely location. Richard the restaurant manager was fantastic.

Review 68:Breakfast a bit costly. The spa is too small (tiny sauna for two persons only).

Review 69:The location is unique. The restoration of the old Abbaye is a success. Staff was excellent.

Review 70:Continental Breakfast at 25 Euros per head was too expensive, We were told as we were about to leave that we could have had a less expensive breakfast. We were not told on arrival!

Review 71:Location excellent. Restaurant good though expensive.

Review 72:Reception staff could have been more approachable. Lack of tea and coffee making facilities in bedrooms. Services all suddenly stop at the end of September;ie boats don't stop at Talloires

Review 73:Delicious gourmet food, served by knowledgeable people.

Review 74:Had to be moved to another room because a wedding party was directlybelow my window - rooms are not air conditioned so leaving the windowopen and trying to sleep was not happening

Review 75:The staff was excellent -Breakfast was good but somewhat pricey - Roomswere great

Review 76:Very poor value for money. Food, particularly breakfast, extortionate, though in fairness dinner was fine dining. Don't imagine that you will be able to sit in comfort in your room enjoying the view over the Lake. Our room was tiny, think of a monk's cell, and all windows are tiny as well. Would have been happier if we had been paying less than those in bigger rooms. Shutters in need of considerable attention, peeling badly and ours wouldn't shut properly.

Review 77:Lovely lakeside location with spacious gardens used as bar and restaurant areas. Staff unfailingly helpful and pleasant. A minor electrical problem in our room one evening, which required an electrician to be called, was sorted within the hour. Food excellent, but (see negatives). Ate outside for every meal as it was extremely hot and the outside restaurant is very well-situated, if you can fend off the hungry sparrows!

Review 78:No AC because it is a historic building. Loud music / party at the doorstep of the hotel on July 14 until 1:30am (be cautious... July 14 is a national holiday. The city organizes parties. Hotel does not control those.)

Review 79:A beautiful setting. Rich historically. Refined.

Review 80:Room needs air con and no lift - 2nd and 3rd floors a bit of a flog

Review 81:Magnificent view and location Fantastic restaurant and top class food Beautiful building and gardens right on the lake

Review 82:The poor waiter service-I was not sure who was there for whose benefit in some cases.

Review 83:The location was excellent and the ambience was lovely. Receptionists were very helpful and helped balance the rest of the service culture which was more traditionally French and largely absent.

Review 84:The food was good, but the service was maybe a touch formal for us.

Review 85:The beautiful lakeside location was unlike any we had experienced before, and we were amazed that the lake was such a pleasure to swim in. We also enjoyed the antiquity of the building, which we thought had been provided with modern comforts without losing it's unique atmosphere of slightly decayed grandeur. There was lots to do in the surrounding mountains, but when the sun shone it was hard to leave the sun loungers beside the lake.

Review 86:The only problem we had was that Wifi wouldn't always work in our room, but we pointed this out to them and they were going to rectify this.

Review 87:We decided to stay at the Abbaye de Talloires as it had been recommendedto us and we were very happy with it We had a room overlooking LakeAnnecy. The room was smallish but comfortable. The staff were extremelyhelpful and as we were there for three nights we were given a ticket toenjoy the boat cruise around the lake. I would definitely recommend itto friends.

Review 88:We loved everything with this hotel. The staff took their time to sort a minor problem with the rooms upon our arrival, and also offered us a better room to compensate for that. That is world class service, and we will visit again as soon as possible. This hotel in my mind has it all. Charm, professionalism, good food, service, location etc etc etc. Do not miss it!

Review 89:Expensive breakfast not worth the money. Expensive food. Faulty information in room about the hotel facilities. Not possible to get anything to eat between lunch and dinner. Rooms slightly worn, will need renovation.

Review 90:Beautifully located by the lake. Nice terrace and sundeck by the lake. Wonderful building and garden. Historical touch on rooms.

Review 91:Brilliant location with access to the lake for swimming

Review 92:Nothing

Review 93:The lake, the mountains view, the food. Staff extremely accommodating and understanding.

Review 94:No dislikes

Review 95:A beautiful building, tastefully decorated. A perfect setting.

Review 96:Lovely location

Review 97:The setting is gorgeous

Review 98:small room

Review 99:location service food

Review 100:The atmosphere, the ambience, the service, the location, the serentity, the tranquility

Review 101:Location is fabulous. Rooms very comfortable. Food and service superb. Top hotel

Review 102:Shabby . Small rooms .average bathroom

Review 103:Friendly staff

Review 104:This is my favourite hotel. Wonderful location, staff, service, everything is classy. Professional and generally perfect.

Review 105:Fantastic location and wonderful atmosphere

Review 106:Faultless in everything they do

Review 107:Excellent hotel in a beautiful location. Planning to re visit next year
