White Horse Guesthouse

White Horse Guesthouse descritpion
This highly recommended, family-run guest house is set in its own grounds and is ideal for touring the area and enjoying the coastal walks that take in some of Devon's best scenery.
The White Horse was built in the mid 19th century by Lord Churston. Subsequent owners appear to have been offering accommodations to paying guests for over 100 years. Each room has a private bathroom and is beautifully decorated with crisp linens, fluffy towels, tea and coffee making facilities, a TV and a DVD player.
The hotel has a lounge bar which serves food, a dining area, a large yard, and ample forecourt parking with space for trailers.

Reviews for White Horse Guesthouse
Review 1:cannot think of a thing. :-)
Review 2:Location excellent, facilities excellent, staff excellent welcoming and catered for gluten free/celiac guest. great value for money I felt the owners went out of their way to make our visit good. BTW breakfast was comprehensive and weak presented.
Review 3:Nothing to dislike.
Review 4:This was a little gem! Located in a brilliant spot for touring the local area and a steam train line directly next door making travelling really novel. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast filled us up all day. Very tasty and an excellent choice. Sandra and Rob were lovely and very helpful. Would thoroughly recommend.
Review 5:It was hard to find, even with the great instructions. You can see the B&B from the main road, but the lay-by you turn in to to get to it was hard to find, especially in peak traffic!! It was further from actual Brixham than I thought (my mistake) so we had to take the bus to get into town (which wasn't really a problem, we would have preferred to walk).
Review 6:The hosts were very welcoming - explained things well and they had heaps of brochures available. Loved the in-house bar too.
Review 7:The only thing I disliked was not being able to spend more time in this lovely location.
Review 8:Hosts very affable, extremely helpful and not at all invasive. The best bed ever. Lovely clean freshly decorated room. Breakfast beautifully cooked and served in a lovely light breakfast room.
Review 9:A bit tricky to locate from the post code.
Review 10:Excellent breakfast, good sized room, comfortable and clean. Best B&B I've stayed in for overall value.
Review 11:Not a very friendly welcome.Strong chemical smell on entering the property.Husband very sarcastic when mentioned danger from hornets around entrance door.
Review 12:Comfortable bed and lovely breakfast.
Review 13:Peaceful guesthouse in great location, set back off main road. Brilliantly sited for steam railway and local attractions.Plenty of walks close by. Beautiful fresh cooked breakfast served each morning.Knowledgeable and friendly hosts. Would definitely recommend.
Review 14:Although just off main road, very handy location for Churston Station (steam trains) and pub. Excellent base for visits to Brixham, Paignton, Torquay, Kingsweir Dartmouth etc.
Review 15:friendly owners , convenient for the Railway , comfortable rooms and plenty of tea coffee etc. in the room . Good choice at breakfast and freshly cooked
Review 16:I thought about staying in either Brixham or Dartmouth but I know that my day would be filled with trying to find a place to park the car. This hotel is ideal having good transport links to both and having easy parking. Sandra and Robert are great hosts and made our stay both relaxed and great fun.
Review 17:Parking quite restricted when hotel gets busy. Shower on the small size.
Review 18:Nice welcome on arrival. Tray of tea was spot on. Very helpful owners. Plenty of local outings advertised.
Review 19:Wasn't anything we didn't like. Very narrow entrance to parking was a little scary.
Review 20:Friendly good breakfast clean. Good base for touring around the area.
Review 21:If I had to be ultra critical I would say the guest house was difficult to locate...Our Sat Nav told us we were there but with no signage we were unable to see the house was at the rear of the Station..Nevertheless it was a nice clean and large room and the Breakfast was top notch..
Review 22:Even though situated on the steam railway line, as we came by publi transport slightly a bit out from brixham which was where we thought we were staying
Review 23:Very clean and well furnished Bed and Breakfast
Review 24:Staff efficient and friendly. the room was airy, cool, soundproofed and large enough for 2 . lovely free biscuits and tea/coffee. free toiletries. breakfast was fantastic. couple of miles from town but thats what i wanted. excellent nights sleep cannot fault.
Review 25:The hosts made us feel right at home. They were helpful with ideas of what to see and do in the area. The food was wonderful and the room was spacious. I would definitely stay here again.
Review 26:Shower pressure worse than mine and that's saying something! Breakfast only available 8.30-9.30. Would prefer a duvet to blankets.
Review 27:Bed was comfy, room quiet Tea on arrival was a nice touch.
Review 28:Beautiful quiet location owners very hospitable and friendly from the time we arrived to the time we left. All facilities excellent and would have no hesitation in staying there again. Highly recommended
Review 29:Nothing.
Review 30:We enjoyed the hosts company as we stayed for 6 nights. Everything, including the breakfast was perfect. We have stayed at many gueshouses but this was the best.
Review 31:ONLY DOWNSIDE IS HAVING TO LEAVE
Review 32:VERY WARM WELCOME,VERY CLEAN AND WELL PLANNED ROOM, SUPERB BREAKFAST, NEW SAUSAGE IS GREAT. GREAT LOCATION FOR GETTING AROUND.

Review 34:Location adequate for Brixham Dartmouth and Torquay ...
Review 35:Finding the property was difficult with modern technology, post code relates to several addresses. Suggest you print directions to make it easier to find, prior to leaving home.q
Review 36:We had a warm welcome, given our room key and knew that if we wanted anything, we only had to ask.
Review 37:Lucky chance and a cancellation meant we were able to stay here rather than a local pub - and it was simply delightful! Our hosts could not have been more pleasant, kind and helpful, our rooms were charming, breakfast was sensational, the area is wonderful to explore - and the passing of the steam train right next door was a daily enchantment for our little girl! Can't wait to come back again...
Review 38:Very clean, good size room. Comfortable bed also loved blankets on the bed. Plenty of off street parking. Next to steam train station so Dartmouth easily accessible. Good hot breakfast.
Review 39:Good food, very friendly hosts. Ideal location even if you do not drive, bus stop 5 minute walk and you can get a day ticket on the buses for the whole of the area for £4.90.
Review 40:NOTHING
Review 41:FRIENDLY WELCOME,CLEAN, MODERN ROOMS WHICH ARE GENEROUS IN SIZE, NICE BATHROOMS AND GOOD BREAKFAST. VERY HANDY FOR THE STEAM TRAINS, GREENWAY AND THE GOLF COURSE. MY MUM AND I HAD A DOUBLE ROOM EACH, BOTH WERE EXCELLENT, ROOM 1 OVERLOOKS THE RAILWAY LINE. I WOULD DEFINITELY STAY HERE AGAIN.
Review 42:It was lovely to be greeted with a cup of tea and a friendly welcome. The room was great and the bar area downstairs was perfect for winding down. I appreciated the drawer of games that meant we could have a game of dominoes. Breakfast was tasty and huge. Our hosts gave us excellent advice about our proposed activities. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel!
Review 43:Pity about the very low shower pressure – the only real negative.
Review 44:Impressed by room service – towels and even bed linen changed without asking – beverages, biscuits and bottled water replenished when necessary.
Review 45:Nothing to dislike!
Review 46:Lovely hosts, good size single room, very comfy bed, good breakfast. Central location for all Torbay resorts. Next to the steam railway so ideal for enthusiasts!
Review 47:Really pleased good sized single room, lovely showers room, beautifully clean.. Bonus bathrobe. Beautifully clean. fresh fruits as part of breakfast Bottle of mineral water each day, hosts very friendly and obliging. Ideal for my course at Lupton house, was on foot. Bus stop few mins away.Would like to come back again.
Review 48:Our only critiscism was the rather low water pressure, which made showering a little slow.
Review 49:We loved the comfort of the room and public areas. The breakfast menu was excellent, good quality and very well presented. The location of the hotel is very good with good transport links into Brixham and other towns nearby. Although the Hotel has a bar, we found the nearby Pub/Restaurant a really good alternative.
Review 50:Property a little tired looking outside, but early days for hosts. Everything else outweighed this aspect.
Review 51:Welcome and help from hosts. Good breakfast efficiently delivered. Open views from our two bedrooms. Convenient for steam train station with trains not running after about 5pm.
Review 52:Found the room to be spotlessly clean and comfortable. The breakfast was certainly worth getting up for and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel
Review 53:A duvet instead of blankets would have been nice, but not a problem, it was very comfortable.
Review 54:Room was spotless and nicely furnished. Comfortable bed. Nice view. Good breakfast.

Review 59:The welcome was very friendly, nothing too much trouble. Breakfast was excellent. Room very comfortable and clean, spacious. Tea and coffee making facilities very good as was the hot chocolate and biscuits.

Review 63:That we were only there for two days :(
Review 64:Everything. Good location to get around. Room was lovely and clean and furnished to a good standard. Breakfast top notch. Couldnt ask for more....

Review 66:Very friendly welcome and very clean room. Breakfast was suture plenty to eat and great value for the money. Recommend to anyone wanting to stay there
Review 67:The place would definitively get a much better atmosphere after some upgrade. Flooring and bedding were installed probably decades ago alrrady and I would think new should be available and would not necessarily ruin the house's carma. It is ashame that the outside is a bit poor - it'd be so easy to maintain some nice flowers and plants around the house but those we saw.we almost all rotten away. I have no idea how
Review 68:The hotel appeared to me as a hotel from the 1970ies and reminded me on the hotel we all know from the comedy series of the late 70ies located at Torbay and I really enjoyed that. It was always a pleasue to have a chat with the owner, he would be able to give advise on many things. We enjoyed Sandra's hospitality and her excellent breakfast.
Review 69:Very helpful and informative if you ask but leave you to come and go as you will. There is nothing not to like here. Breakfast excellent and varied menu. Evening meal is also excellent again large varied menu.
Review 70:Not too keen on the sausages if I'm honest. But that was the only thing I could think of Oh and going home... I didn't like that at all!!
Review 71:Everything about The White Horse was great, the staff were welcoming and friendly, the room was spotlessly clean and comfortable and there was plenty of choice for breakfast. Even though there is a steam railway station right next door, they only run during the day so there is no noise at night.
Review 72:We didn't get to spend much time there as it was really just an over night stay.
Review 73:The staff were very friendly, and extremely helpful upon arrival. The breakfast was amazing, and we couldn't fault our stay. Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay again.

Review 80:Nothing
Review 81:Friendly welcome, excellent rooms, good food - especially breakfast- comfortable beds. Such a peaceful place to relax. The bonus of the steam railway enabling us to leave the car for a day out by steam train and paddle steamer all made for a great short break. Will definitely recommend to everyone and come again when we can.
Review 82:the final 300 yards to find it. The directions from Group bookig make sense once you find it but that last few hundred yards need clarification.
