Reviews for The George at Nunney
Review 1:Fantastic hotel. It was easy to find, charming and had so much character to it. It was warm, Cosy and welcoming. The staff were fantastic, the suite was amazing and the food was delicious. There was nowhere to eat or drink nearby but that didn't matter as even if there had been, I wouldn't have left the hotel. Definitely a reccomemded stay. We stayed here to travel to longleat, which was about 10 minutes away and we'd definitely stay there again next time. It was flawless!
Review 2:New Years Day visit, chose and booked this hotel for its dining options a couple of weeks in advance including a table for dinner. We got a call late the day before and after the cancellation deadline that there would no restaurant or bar open after 6pm. The rooms are just starting to get tired looking.
Review 3:The staff were good, 5 Stars to Eric who was very welcoming and restored our previously negative thoughts about the pub, good breakfast service
Review 4:Mobil phone and internet signal not the best but available.
Review 5:Beautiful ambiance and very friendly and helpful staff. Outstanding food and service! The Pub has a very homly feeling and has been decorated and refurbished with much thought, exquisite taste of color and light and a great eye for detail. The Breakfast was fantastic and served in a calm tranquil surrounding. Thank for a great stay! x
Review 6:Little bit noisy when in the room for the night but this is expected being above a thriving restaurant/pub. Walls a little thin.
Review 7:Very quaint little village (with a castle to explore) close to Frome and Longleat. The restaurant food was good with friendly staff.
Review 8:Only that i got my food served on a wooden board would rather a plate easier to eat food on, also i have coeliac disease so was a bit worried eating on This as not as hygenic as a plate i feel, everything has to be spotless clean as any gluten contamination would make me really ill. But im sure it was fine as the place was really clean.
Review 9:The room was cosy very clean the shower was lovely!! Room was nicely decorated lovely and warm, very homely, plenty of tea coffee and biscuits, only thing was it had a flat screen nice tv but no dvd player as it was supposed too, not a worry as only stayed one night but when you have a child with u that has brought a film to watch in bed for the evening you know what i mean!!! Then its a big thing lol anyway we had a lovely sfay but would def choose the family room nxt time.the food was fantastic great choices on the menu brilliant value for money, price for hotel great too!!! Theres a lovely castle opposite with a moat around!!!and seating area by the stream oppostite the george
Review 10:We had room no 13 and I shall apologise to room no 12 who had to hear the creaking of our foot steps, although this could not be helped due to a 16th century building!! The wifi was a bit of a hit and miss. As well as the half cut bathroom light (not so good trying to find it in the dark).
Review 11:We arrived on Boxing Day to be told that the restaurant and bar would be closed at 6pm. However, the manageress informed us of the nearest local restaurants nearby that were still serving. The room was very clean and spacious, which is all you need really. From looking out of the window, we could see Nunney Castle, lush and a lovely lake. The breakfast was to die for! I had smoked haddock and 2 poached eggs the first morning and a full English breakfast the following morning with fried bread!!) The staff here at The George made you feel warm and welcome and were lovely to chat to. : )
Review 12:Got to hotel at around 6:30 boxing night, was expecting to eat in restaurant however this was closed, spoke to the owner who said the manager should of contacted us to inform us of this, however we never received a call, had to search for food outlets,We couldn't lock the door as the door had dropped, didn't sleep properly wondering if someone would walk in.
Review 13:The hotel is lovely, very modern, junior suite very pleased with apart from couldnt lock door
Review 14:Our room wasn't as expected as there had been a change to the room made after our booking which we weren't aware of. The bed was supposed to be king size four poster, but instead was a queen size and so very small. They did however provide a bottle of wine on the house which wad appreciated. A lovely place but general decor in places a bit untidy despite being recently renovated. The mix of modern with old I feel let the place down a bit as it lost it's charm of being a quaint, picturesque countryside hotel. The water was also turned off for a short time in the morning without warning which was inconvenient and bad planning. Generally a lovely stay over Christmas.
Review 15:Food was lovely, including a meal in the restaurant and breakfasts. Pretty location and a lovely building.staff were generally very friendly and helpful.
Review 16:Nothing - everything was terrific.
Review 17:The George is an old coaching inn which has been successfully and tastefully refurbished to meet the needs of the 21st century traveller whilst retaining the sense of its history. The catering side of the George is excellent and cannot be praised to highly. The staff are efficient, friendly and helpful at all times. The location in the historic village of Nunney is great.
Review 18:When you turned the TV on in our room it stayed on for about 10 seconds before going off and them coming back on again continually so you could not watch TV. The main radiator was broken but the back up heater did keep the room warm.
Review 19:The location was beautiful and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a great atmosphere.
Review 20:We had a very small room which we were told would have a double bed but in fact had twins pushed together. We had a separate bathroom which we were assured was ours only but in the morning was shocked that someone else had used our toilet, shower and bath mat! Yuk...not impressed. We did complain however and apologies but nothing else were given. The bathroom needs a key for the room only as we couldn't leave our toiletries or towels and under the circumstances we were relieved we hadn't.
Review 21:The proximity of where we wanted to go.
Review 22:Long walk up many stairs to a small room. There are other places within a few mins driving offering far more comfort for the same price.
Review 23:Bed and ensuite clean and comfortable. Good restaurant. Friendly staff.
Review 24:everything......the staff were outstanding, friendly and very helpful. The restaurant had a good menu with excellent food. The bar was warm and tastefully decorated as was the rest of the hotel. Had a fabulous experience with our two daughters who are in their twenties
Review 25:Parking around the back was on a big gradient and the surface to the door was very rough. The room was not too good as the bed was broken and there was no shower, I feel that had this been better in many respects the pub/ restaurant would be four star as the room let it down.
Review 26:The restaurant was pleasant with a good choice of food which was delicious. The full English Breakfast had a great choice of food and was also delicious.
Review 27:The slats on the bed were broken which wasn't a new problem. It made it uncomfortable to sleep on.I didn't feel that it was taken seriously when reported.Would have preferred a shower rather than a shower spray. The room was quite cold with the rads not really heating up.
Review 28:Charming pub in a delightful village.Friendly staff.Excellent food.Wonderful view from our room.
Review 29:There could of been a extra chair in the room so we could relax and watch TV.
Review 30:Friendly staff, chamber maids were excellent, beds were made every day, clean towels daily, coffee tea sugar biscuits fresh every day!!
Review 31:It didn't bother us so much but for those who are more sensitive to noise, you could hear the music from the bar in our room but it didn't stop us having a good nights sleep.
Review 32:The accommodation was very cosy and welcoming. Our dinner was delicious as was the breakfast. The room was large and had a super comfy bed. The Staff were friendly and attentive. Perfect location for Longleat.
Review 33:The rooms needed updating our room was meant to be a double bed but had to single beds put together. Also the tiles around the bath were coming off
Review 34:The staff were lovely. The place it self was in a gorgeous area.the food was lovely and alot of it.
Review 35:I would not call it a bad experience, it's just that we would have preferred a little more lounge seating area, most of the area in and around the bar was for food. However I would recommend The George and we will go back at some stage.
Review 36:Great rural location which is what we wanted, nice and quiet (apart from the bull!), really helpful and friendly staff, and the food was all beautifully cooked, thank you chef. Highly recommended.
Review 37:For older folk and with heavy bags it's probably worth considering that you have to climb flights to stairs to get to the room - we didn't have an issue with that.
Review 38:Fantastic staff and service. Room was cosy and we had a lovely sofa bed made up for our daughter to sleep without any fuss. Beautifully done property. Dinner is fantastic but be sure to book a table in advance as it seems to be a really popular place amongst locals too. Breakfast is lovely and wholesome.
Review 39:Staff were very friendly. I have a large car and was struggling parking. Very quickly a guy came over to park it for me. We arrived a little late but they were able yo feed us
Review 40:What's not to like!
Review 41:Everything. Staff, location, facilities, meals... It felt like they went all out to make it a very special stay. I am gluten and dairy free. They definitely went the extra mile accomadating my dietary needs. Top marks on every front.
Review 42:Room 12 has a separate bathroom ( room & bathroom are either side of Room 13) & our neighbours were not the quietest when visiting the toilet in the small hours & woke us up on several occasions. Room 13 was billed as bath & shower - it's actually a very low down shower attachment so you have to kneel in the bath to "shower". Very powerful shower, but with no screen, it does make quite a mess! Not a problem for us, but may be for some... And the Wi-Fi, although free, has quite a poor signal the further away you get from the bar areas.
Review 43:We stayed in a Room 13. Very quirky, lopsided room, creaky, wonky floorboards & low beamed ceiling. Exactly what we hoped it would be. Gorgeous property. Very modern decor in a 17th century coach house can't have been easy to do, but it's a perfect blend. Staff were very friendly & we were given a bar tab against our room. Food was absolutely fantastic. Above average portions too! Very busy on a weekend so if staying, make sure you book a table in advance. We didn't book Saturday until the morning & only just got a reservation! Will definitely be back...
Review 44:The premises was absolutely stunning felt like a really countryside inn with modern features the rooms were so comfy and fitted in with the atmosphere definitely recommend
Review 45:Carpets in the bedroom areas are beginning to look a bit tired.
Review 46:Better than average Inn B & B , pleasant staff. Good traditional ;fresh food ,well presented. Very pleasant public areas.
Review 47:Hand held shower over bath a surprise but no biggie
Review 48:Genuine hospitality, modernised but still charming. Amazing 13th century castle just a few metres away. Food tasty, cider lovely..!
Review 49:Lovely old hotel with quirky features and a modern comfortable restaurant, serving good reasonably-priced food. Would definitely visit again when travelling through Somerset.
Review 50:Car parking was chaotic. Our room was a little tired but we expected that as we had our dog with us. The restaurant was so popular that it was even crowded on a Monday evening so booking is a must.
Review 51:The Staff we met were so helpful and friendly. The restaurant had a menu that catered very well for people who choose not to eat meat and the food was excellent.
Review 52:Nothing, it was all good, lovely and comfortable
Review 53:A beautiful place to stay highly recommend it to all, grt room, grt food grt staff, excellent, very clean
Review 54:1. Bathroom is a little basic. The small hand rinse basin is not suitable for men who wet shave because the taps get in the way. The heat and volume knobs on the shower mixer are difficult to use when wet and getting the right temperature is also trial and error. The mixer isn't thermostatic so there is a big chance of being showered with very hot water, or very cold as you turn the shower on and off and when trying to get the right temperature. There is no extract ventilator, so the room gets steamy. Clear glass in bathroom window, so you can be seen by people in the garden. 2. The wall mirror above the counter is too high for ladies who need to dry hair and do make up seated in front of a mirror. 3. Lack of power sockets. None at the bedside tables. 4. A bit noisy at times, ie from room above. 5. Chilly room. The radiators were not working so we used the electric heater. 6. Basic furnishings & lighting in the Room. Would have been nice to have had the style and quality of the furnishings and lighting that are downstairs in the bedroom too.
Review 55:Friendly staff. Restaurant meals & breakfast were good. Nice Garden. Nice furnishings & lighting in the public areas (not in the Room though, which was just basic - shame!)
Review 56:The room desperately needs decorating, the bathroom window needs frosted glass, as the neighbours could see straight in!!! plastic sheeting and pillow cases makes for an uncomfortable night, im afraid did not feel value for money, expected higher standards for the price, sorry...
Review 57:The staff were very friendly and location was good for where we wanted to be...
Review 58:no mobile reception (3 Mobile) throughout stay
Review 59:Food and service was excellent in the restaurant and breakfast room. Location was interesting i.e. castle and church. Close to places of interest which were on our itinerary.
Review 60:Not a complaint but just be aware that mobile phone reception is quite sporadic in the area - this of course is not the hotel's fault ! and may be seen as a plus point by some !!
Review 61:We stayed in the Castle Suite - a lovely big room with a separate bathroom. Room was very clean and well equipped. Staff were pleasant and helpful and the breakfast was well cooked, tasty and good value. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area. Dog friendly - our dog was welcome in the bar/restaurant and the breakfast room.
Review 62:Staff not friendly, except breakfast lady. Bedroom classed with shower and bath, but shower consisted of hand held shower head.
Review 63:Beautiful setting, fantastic food and comfy bed.
Review 64:room 12 is small for one person ; it is a twin bed, there's no place for baggage, there's no place for anything. Bathroom in on the aisle, not in the room, but has no key so it's open. I paid £ 116 for this room for one night.
Review 65:very kind staff, good breakfast and restaurant, quite village.
Review 66:Little bit dissapointed with room as I paid an extra £15 to what I thought would be a nicer room as I could of gone for the value room at £75 and the beds were abit hard.
Review 67:We loved the old style cottage with a modern take, the outdoor seating area was beautifully set under a willow tree with lights and you could hear the stream, family friendly, good choice of breakfast, friendly and helpful staff.
Review 68:As it was stated that the property was on High Street. I expected to find other pubs, shops etc there. There was The George, Nunney Castle and a tiny Spar shop and that was it. £90 a night was very expensive and other similar places we stayed at during this holiday were only £70 or less and of the same quality.
Review 69:Lovely village with castle opposite. Nice restaurant with excellent food and lovely fairy lights and comfy sofas. Also outdoor smoking garden which was huge.
Review 70:wifi was not working, we were told that they were waiting for BT to fix it, it wasn't a problem really as it was nice to get away from using the normal things we relay on. The front beer garden did need to be cleaned up as there was dog poo in there, as there was no play area for children, it was a bit difficult for to entertain my little boy outside.
Review 71:this was a lovely place to stay, staff were very friendly, food was very good and plentiful. We stayed in the attic room which was very clean, spacious and comfortable. We would stay there again. Nunney castle was just less than a minute walk away and was beautiful.
Review 72:The only thing I could say is the wifi signal is poor we couldn't get any signal at all.
Review 73:We went to Longleat therefore this was an ideal location and breakfast is fab.
Review 74:wifi was unavailable so for my teenage daughter it proved a bit frustrating
Review 75:location lovely, the 2 beer gardens were beautiful, with one by the river.Staff were amazing.Very friendly and helpful. Food great with everything available on the menu. Chenin Blanc very tasty too.!
Review 76:The shower in room 7, and perhaps its associated plumbing, needs some attention to ensure a consistent supply of hot water.
Review 77:Pleasant traditional hotel in a charming village, just two minutes from a rather fine ruined castle. Excellent dinner, and freshly cooked breakfast. Helpful staff.
Review 78:There wasn't much apart from noisy people up above them an room a little small which they ended up with 2 single beds put together to make a double.
Review 79:It was for my mom and dad for my mom's birthday and they loved it all.
Review 80:Twin room does not include bathroom. You have to go outside room across corridor. Very outdated and in need of new bathroom for this very tiny room. We struggled to get ready the next morning as no room to move around
Review 81:Location
Review 82:The room was very small for a couple and toddler. It was also up several flights of stairs which was tricky with my wife pregnant and lots of bags though I know this can't be helped.
Review 83:Very eligible staff and lovely breakfast
Review 84:Rooms could do with more toiletries and shower to be on a stand with a shower curtain, had no service on phone and unable to connect to wifi
Review 85:Really friendly, lovely food, room was basic but clean would love to stay again
Review 86:Despite my husband checking in advance, no information was given on the number of stairs up to the bedrooms.Bedrooms lack enough storage space, and the bedside lighting was appalling - far too dim to read a book in bed etc!.
Review 87:Helpfulness and friendliness of all the staff at all times. Meals were well presented, cooked beautifully with good sized portions. However staff seem to have a number of roles i.e. reception, booking in, serving answering queries etc.. a bit chaotic at busy times - this could be organised better.
Review 88:The beds were a little hard. I found a piece of foil in my dinner but to be fair to them they gave me a dessert free of charge.
Review 89:The staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was amazing, a great choice and included in the room price. Location was amazing. Very picturesque, right opposite an old castle fort with a moat. The hotel itself was very cosy, and traditional with a contemporary style. I would definitely come here again.
Review 90:Some installations need fixing - especially in the bathrooms.
Review 91:It's a very beautiful traditional inn. Lovely rooms and view. Very helpful staff. High value furniture.
Review 92:Booked parking but no spaces when we arrived. The staff told me they could not guarantee parking even though I ticked the box. However, the staff arranged for a car to be be moved so we could park in the courtyard and were very helpful.
Review 93:Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Lovely old pub in a very pretty village. Very clean room and very good food.
Review 94:WiFi wasn't to good. But didn't spoil my stay at all. I was here to chill & unwind.
Review 95:Situated in a beautiful village with lovely surroundings. The Lodge was amazing, modern but still kept it's original look & feel of a coach house. The food was Excellent Sunday roast is a must, but the puddings not so.
Review 96:Wi Fi not working the entire time we were there. Staff informed us that it never works. The info would have been beneficial as we were relying on it to plan the next part of our holiday.
Review 97:Most of the rooms had no hot water the first morning but think it was a one-off due to a plumbing problem rather than a regular occurence.
Review 98:Really friendly and helpful staff! And fantastic choices for breakfast! Beautiful beer gardens!
Review 99:Noise coming from above room 7. Kept my son & his friend awake until early hours. They did not get much sleep.
Review 100:The food & location, the friendly staff & our room.
Review 101:Nothing really. Bed a little uncomfortable but I'm very fussy!! So no complaints
Review 102:The staff are very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was fantastic.
Review 103:perfectly cooked full English Breakfast using local produce. Friendly staff lovely tucked away little hamlet location a village that still feels like a village A really pleasant surprise
Review 104:Service was a touch clunky both in the evening (young lads) and at breakfast (one over stretched but lovely young lady on Sunday). Just needed more guidance and supervision. Nothing wrong necessarily but could make the whole stay really stand out if they got it right. the bedroom was refurbished but still felt tired albeit in an old building.
Review 105:Restaurant and bar environment as well as the beer garden were terrific. Very good evening meals on both nights. Family friendly. Spotless through out. A lovely village setting.
Review 106:The only downside was the rooms were all advertised as having a DVD player in every room which we didn't have in room 8 we had taken DVDs for my 7 year old daughter to watch at bedtime but couldn't.
Review 107:We were in Room No 10 and the WIFI signal was very weak. I saw Routers on the floor below outside the rooms, if they placed another router on the floor where Room 10 & 11 are, this would probably solve this issue. Other than that we were very happy with every other aspect of the George!
Review 108:The staff were very friendly with a high standard of customer service!
Review 109:Noisiest hotel I have ever stayed in, drills and power tools until 8.pm at least because that's when I was finally driven out the room, celler being restocked after 10.00pm dishes being washed( noisily) and breakfast tables being set up by noisy staff. I am not a grumpy old man but you stay in hotels because you are away from home and usually tired. Despite its convenient location I will never stay here again
Review 110:We only stayed for one night but the place was beautifully decorated, food was amazing and staff were so friendly and helpful! Would highly recommend!
Review 111:Although we arrived late for breakfast, we were treated very nicely by the staff member that had worked late the night before and was also up doing breakfast. She was warm and pleasant and made sure we had our full english breakfast.
Review 112:Excellent location in a charming village. The room was comfortable. Easy access from the private parking area. Nice bar / restaurant area and good food
Review 113:Bar and restaurant were superb with great food and drink. The beer garden was a beautiful place to relax and unwind.Rooms were tastefully decorated and staff made us feel welcome an all round great place to stay.
Review 114:best surprise of our whole trip. Booked here as it was closest thing we could find to Glastonbury, didn't realize we were there during the festival, fell in love with this place and village of Nunney. would seriously move here if I could!
Review 115:Didn't had any thing which I don't like
Review 116:The food area is huge Service is excellent Specially errick who work there looked after is as we are special.
Review 117:The staff were kind and friendly The food was excellent - so good we decided to eat there for our two nights stay. Beautiful village setting near an old castle.
Review 118:Views from bedroom across gardens towards castle and church a surprise and delight. The restaurant retained much of the atmosphere of an older building, while providing warmth, comfort and very good food. A delightful village on your doorstep to explore. Also made a good base to visit Bath.
Review 119:Wifi was very intermittent. Rooms above the dining area were a little noisy
Review 120:Staff were very nice and friendly. The breakfast and food in general was excellent. Very nice location.
Review 121:Very poor aeration, too warm to sleep well even though outside it was pleasant but not exactly hot. Being woken at 6 am by a screaming fire alarm in the room for no apparent reason.
Review 122:The location in Nunney, a picturesque village with an atmospheric ruined castle. Very friendly and helpful waitress at breakfast.
Review 123:We loved the location, the staff were all very friendly, loved the way the the rooms downstairs were furnished and set out. The dinner and breakfast was excellent.
Review 124:Younger less conscientious waiter and waitress on the first evening let side down and need to be addressed!
Review 125:We stayed to celebrate my 40 th birthday . We stayed two nights in the castle suite and my parents in room 8 . The whole stay was fantastic and conscientious staff member Trish was lovely to us .
Review 126:Bedroom did not match the excellent design and quality of downstairs restaurant etc. bathroom needs some attention and bedroom decor dull needs refurb although comfortable bed.
Review 127:Location. Restaurant decor and quality of furniture and design. Garden setting. Friendly helpfull Staff. Nice bar.
Review 128:Room a little cold, radiator was set but no heat Noisy floorboards, but that's what you get with a properly old inn
Review 129:Lovely hotel in a pretty location Friendly and professional staff Good food
Review 130:Room 9. Exceptionally noisy from below (restrauent), above and next door, all noises carried!! WiFi was basically non existant lucky to get 10% of the time. Carpark hard to get into as people park opposite entry & we had a very small car.
Review 131:No much. For what we got it was absolutely expensive, suggest one goes elsewhere as it will not be an enjoyable stay - we were there for 2 nights and were glad to leave.
Review 132:The WiFi was a bit hit and miss but if you are looking to get away from it all, this is not a problem.
Review 133:Hotel was beautiful, the staff were really friendly. The location was amazing, great Base for exploring. The food in the restaurant was brilliant and great value.
