Among its many accolades, the hotel has received an award for Best Breakfast of the Year and Best Restaurant of the Year from the Derbyshire Food and Drink Awards.
In Newbold, a residential area of Chesterfield, this attractive and comfortable hotel consists of a pair of Victorian duplexes that have been sympathetically converted.

Reviews for Buckingham's Hotel
Review 1:Apart from Dining style chair no where else to sit in the room apart from the bed. Television sevice and WIFI very poor Tea tray items not very good quality
Review 2:Good location to the centre of town, very friendly and helpful owner.
Review 3:There was too much of the "resident"famillies lifestyle ondisplay for a Hotel. When sitting in the dining room for breakfast it isnot appealing to have the tv going (loudly) in an ajoining room. Theretotdler on full display I would suggest separating the owners sittingroom from the guests dining area. More like a B&B.
Review 4:Nice quiet room good bath, lots of hot water.
Review 5:Limited parking. Not having keys to go in and out of the buliding. Having to ring to get some one to let you in.
Review 6:Good food. Spacious,Clean and comfortable accomodation.
Review 7:Pungeant smell in the bathroom on the first night. The lack of lifts, esp. as we had a room upstairs and had a baby cot, a few bags, etc..
Review 8:The staff is extremely friendly. The quality of breakfast was excellent.
Review 9:If we had to pick something, maybe the shower could be bigger but that is being extremely picky.
Review 10:Love love love this place, food is to die for, really high quality and very friendly family run hotel. Very close to town centre, approx 5 min walk.
Review 11:Bedroom very cramped perhaps just because it was at the top (attic). Poly/cotton sheets not the best. Breakfast menu, confusing and limited with odd surcharges. Where else would porridge not be considered an alternative to cereal?Breakfast let the overall experience down.
Review 12:Excellent evening meal. Beautifully presented mystery meal that tasted divine
Review 13:The food served at either evening meal or breakfast truly made this stay outstanding. Nick Buckingham obviously an experienced chef created some delights and all locally sourced, home made or indeed home grown in their own allotment.
Review 14:The decor is a bit dated and not sure about the Teddy's on the beds.
Review 15:The food was excellent. The idea that you just had what the chef had decided to cook that day was brilliant as it took out all the decisions of what to eat.
Review 16:Awkward ingress / egress to car park. Hotel guests should not have to pay a service charge for evening meals without being advised of this poloicy.
Review 17:Very good evening meals with home made produce served in hotel.
Review 18:I booked bed & breakfast and on arrival discovered that I could have dinner. After discussing my likes and dislikes, I had a 3 course meal chosen by the chef which was delicious. It is quite refreshing not to have to choose from a menu but be served a meal based on the day's fresh produce.
Review 19:The doors were locked at midnight with access only prior to 2am via the bell. If I had known this prior to booking, I would have chosen to stay elsewhere.
Review 20:The homeless really nice and comfortable. The staff were friendly and welcoming.
Review 21:I loved my stay at the hotel, the staff were warm and welcoming and also very helpful The bed oh my gosh I wish I never had to get out of it and the cute teddy bears was a lovely comforting touch Breakfast in the morning was to die for and such a good variety of food, eating those pancakes made me feel like I was 6 years old and it was like my grandma had made them so amazing
Review 22:Vat on every thing. even a small bottle ov beer. £3.95 plus vat. Service charge?? you cud av asked for it to be removed.A bit embarrasing. Suprise dinner. No menu...You either like it or you dont..Did not like the price..Plus vat...
Review 23:Nothing apart from location..
Review 24:The place was on a main road and was noisy at night which we are not used to.
Review 25:The breakfast was really well cooked by someone who really knew what he was doing.
Review 26:This is very nice hotel that gives you very relaxed and exciting stay. Owner is a chefs who creates fantastic meal. I had a "surprising dinner" and was nice modern British cousins with a lot of creative mind. Stuff we're very friendly and room was extremely clean, well decorated, functional and comfortable. I will stay here again when I have chance to come this area next time!
Review 27:The shower was really bad - low pressure and hot/cold flashes, can't get it to give steady temperature for longer than a second. The room smelled like food at breakfast and dinner time. It had an open closet and I didn't dare take my clothes out of the suitcase, worried they would take in the smell. The bed being situated next to the window, it's cold at night and you get woken up by traffic (in Chesterfield!!!) at 6 am. Since it was an attic room, I kept bumping into corners and the ceiling and I had to bend myself around the room. No fridge in the room. There was a kettle but no coffee. No lift.
Review 28:The chef and the food were great. Dinner is pricy but for that money you wouldn't get that quality in many places. The bathroom was very clean and the towels were nice and fluffy.
Review 29:Slight discomfort with the bed's mattress protector slipping about.
Review 30:The staff are a close knit family who were all warm and welcoming to us. The food in this hotel is the best we've experienced in England.
Review 31:Breakfasts were fantastic with home-made sausages, home-smoked bacon, home-made joghurt, Scottish pancakes etc etc The highlight was dinner for two in the Clown Conservatory. Nick treated us with an exquisite vegetarian meal featuring wonderful Thai seasoning and his special secret - Oativa. With a gorgeous cherry cheese cake for desert and a lovely conversation with the chef himself, what could have been better?
Review 32:Family run business, very welcoming, arrived late at night and nothing was a bother. Tasty breakfast, looked after my suitcase until I returned from conference. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again if business in Chesterfield.
Review 33:None at all!
Review 34:We were made very welcome and given excellent attention throughout our stay. The chef rightly takes enormous pride in his cooking. We will definitely return to Chesterfield for the hotel experience alone.
Review 35:The only minor drawback as far as we were concerned was the design of the bedroom we were in. One side of the bed was adjacent to a sloping ceiling which did cause minor inconvenience at night.
Review 36:The breakfast was excellent, but the dinner takes some beating. The suprise menu with dishes explained by the chef is novel and a draw for a return visit. There is a strong family atmosphere which gives a pleasant and welcoming ambience.
Review 37:Only 1 sausage / rasher of bacon / egg for breakfast. Had to go downstairs to iron clothes.
Review 38:Spacious room , comfortable bed, lovely staff, smiling teddy bear
Review 39:A bit cold in the room at night, but electric heater provided. Warmest setting in shower was not warm enough! Free WiFi available but quite patchy connection and not good enough for streaming. Bit dated decor, but overall not a bad experience.
Review 40:Location is great, easy to access, very comfortable bed. Free breakfast a-la carté was good, accommodative staff. Very quiet locality as hotel is in a residential area. Dining area well decorated and clean.
Review 41:Supposed to be a double bedroom hardly room to move and I was alone. At first TV didn't work and I wasn't suprised. The TV was wall mounted but the receiver was on a cheap wooden stand with wires trailing everywhere, multiple plugs in one socket etc.
Review 42:Staff were good. Breakfast good.
Review 43:Shower was a little on the weak side and freeview wasn't working well
Review 44:Friendly staff, food was good, nicely furnished, comfortable room, good value for money, nice restaurant
Review 45:Didn't find wifi, although wasn't too worried. It may be available, I didn't ask.
Review 46:Very nice friendly people, room spotless and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Will definitely be going back.
Review 47:Thin walls Tiny TV No front door key Very limited parking No overall complaints but will probably try somewhere else next time
Review 48:Good quality food Large comfortable room Convenient location
Review 49:Owner quite rude, advised hotel closed at 12 midnight, advised her Booking.com states 2 a.m. Was made to feel guilty that she would have to stay up until 2 a.m to let us in.
Review 50:Shower was a bit weak - but I did get wet!
Review 51:Family run place, restaurant very committed to amazing home-made food, quirky dining room (the clowns are a bit discordant with the quality ofthe food) but tired of soul-less merit-less ibis and travelodge style? This is the perfect antidote.
Review 52:We found the bedroom rather hot overnight, and you do get some noise from other rooms/ bathrooms which is common. Some people might find all the clowns a bit creepy.
Review 53:The family were very friendly and helpful - great characters. The food was fantastic and we loved the 3 course surprise menu ( surprise was optional). The standard of the meal was extremely high and I would recommend the restaurant alone. The decor could possibly do with some modernising, but was all very clean and well thought out. The small garden and pots ( even in November) were very attractive.
Review 54:The Staff were fabulous, I was at a wedding and didn't arrive back at the hotel until very late, I was greeted by a lovely understanding Lady. Thank you ever so much
Review 55:Can't think of anything significant. They didn't have any soda water but that's all i can think of.
Review 56:The food here is truly exceptional and way beyond what one would expect from a modestly priced hotel in Chesterfield. No menu - you just say what you don't like and chef does the rest. Give it a go! Breakfasts are also excellent with locally sourced ingredients where possible.
Review 57:Room facing the street a bit noisy on a Saturday night, unable to get wifi in our room ( but could in public areas)
Review 58:Comfortable large room with desk and couch, great breakfast selection cooked to order in attractive dining room
Review 59:Limited parking
Review 60:The buckingham's are true host, giving that bit extra attention to their guest. Excellent surprise menu food by master chef Buckingham.
Review 61:1st nite had awful pillows but the lovely lady found me some puffy feather ones for the 2nd nite! They also leant my boss a tie for a funeral! Nothing was too much trouble, am going back to stay next week!
Review 62:Tina and Nik - adorable, friendly, professional and personable all rolled into one. Food .... well where would I start or end and what on earth to put in the middle! The food was imaginative, aesthetically pleasing, a sensory overload of smells, tastes and textures - to summarise, it was a Morgasm! (an orgasm that takes place in the mouth :)
Review 63:We had two excellent evening meals and breakfasts at Buckinghams during our two night stay. The beautifully prepared and tasty dishes were very well balanced. The room was well presented and very comfortable.
Review 64:Nothing really
Review 65:The Buckingham were very friendly and helpful. The catering was really excellent - a whole wall covered with accolades won for their food. No menu's just a "surprise"meal which was delicious - a great idea which proves its worth. Would definitely recommend and will visit again.
Review 66:The hostes who handled The check in was very inpolite and did not makeus feel welcomed. The information on booking. Com did not inform usabout extra charges for bringing our dog or for using American express. The price we was promised did not match The price we had to pay.
Review 67:The room and The breakfast was lovely. Also the hostes and the hostbefore breakfast was very service minded and friendly.
Review 68:We had a very relaxed stay at Buckinghams Hotel we enjoyed good food, good company and a very comfortable nights sleep. The food was excellent, home made and/or home grown quality ingredients. We plan to return again in the future.
Review 69:We arrived to be told our booking for a twin room had not been received, by someone whose behaviour resembled that of Sybil of Fawlty Towers. I was told they only had a superior double available, which we had to accept. The room had dampness in it around the bed, peeling wallpaper in the roof of the bathroom. The wardrobe was homemade, the cover on the bed looked like a dog blanket - I actually felt I staying in a bedsit!! This is not a hotel. I disbelieved previous comments from travellers about Sybil, dated furniture, the doorbell and to top it all the place is full of bears and clowns - you couldn't make it up. I don't know when this place was last assessed but I work in public health and think it should be closed down for the dampness!!
Review 70:Beautiful food, location.
Review 71:Nothing1
Review 72:The atmosphere was very homely and comfortable. The bed was particularly comfortable and had a good night's sleep. The food was exceptionally good. The evening meal would have graced a 5 star hotel. Every member of the family could not have been more friendly and helpful.
Review 73:Could not find anything wrong with hotel.
Review 74:Staff were very friendly and polite. Room was spotless and spacious. Breakfast first class. Shame we weren't staying longer than one night as we didn't get a chance to sample the evening meals. However I'm sure they would be excellent as well. Would recommend to anyone.
Review 75:The flushing of the toilet did not operate perfectly, it was quite weak, but we could live with it.
Review 76:The staff was very helpful, they often gave us tourist information as well. The breakfast was abundant and very good. Wifi was available in the room and it was quite fast. The room was very nice, clean and furniture was special. The hotel is within an approximately 5-10 minutes walking distance to the town center.
