Reviews for Quayside Hotel

Review 1:Heading back to reality on the morning I left

Review 2:Found the whole Quayside experience to be first class, all the staff were very friendly & there was an excellent menu available

Review 3:not a bad experience but we were offered an upgrade on booking.com which we paid for but the room was exactly the same as the last time we stayed except the bathroom was new. Our only observation was that the hotel needed to ? the BMI of guests as the shower although new was like washing in a coffin! very narrow.Any large person staying there would find showering difficult,we would still recommend the hotel to anyone

Review 4:convenient position, nice staff, good food, the private car park was great as Brixham is very hilly & little convenient parking space

Review 5:No hot choc sachets or complimentary water in room. No complimentary soap for sink. Had to use shower gel. Bit petty I know but room wasn't cheap

Review 6:View from our room

Review 7:Only thing I didn't like there no lifts and plenty of stairs to climb if you have trouble walking like me but the staff got me a lower floor

Review 8:Food very good staff brill very clean got no complaint at all wished I payed a little extra to have a lower floor but no one can fault this hotel we'll done

Review 9:I think the hotel is a little expensive. The £80 (ish) for the dinner per night for two was only for the food. I don't thnik I made any saving, may have even made a loss. The cost didnot include wine, so watch that

Review 10:We were well looked after. The restrant staff were fantastic.

Review 11:1. Generally abrupt receptionist on arrival. 2. No point in asking me what I want for breakfast both times and bringing black pudding twice which I clearly said I did not want. 3. Barman at pub was a football ,?!;:/-@, good luck with him.

Review 12:Views were exceptional

Review 13:The attached bar has live music nights - which definitely are NOT our thing. Annoying to have paid for the privacy of a room to have the intrusion of loud late music. Also, we were there for three nights and never had fresh towels provided.

Review 14:Great genuinely friendly staff. Location is great. Food very good. Good 'Olde Worlde' vibe with low ceilings and good décor.

Review 15:Great to have its own car park, though a short distance from the hotel. Very helpful and cheerful staff, very good restaurant with local fish served, good breakfast (smoked haddock and poached eggs, really good), bar serves local ales as well as the usual beers. Our room was at the back, but spacious and well equipped.

Review 16:Our main problem was the room was right next to a fire door, and it could be heard every time someone passed through it.

Review 17:Food was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful. Location of Hotel superb.

Review 18:The only negative is that the parking lot is up a hill and quite a hike for an older person.

Review 19:Super restaurant and bar on site. Lots of choices for breakfast. Friends who are residents in Brixham joined me for dinner and the meal was exceptional - they even said they would go there for Christmas. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was pleasantly decorated with modern bathroom facilities.

Review 20:Very clean hotel, our room a little dated though. Lovely restaurant area. Easy access to the bay. Very polite and efficient staff. Our third visit to this hotel, so it's doing something right!

Review 21:Our room (17) was very stuffy, it did have an air con unit but it was very noisy.

Review 22:Location is excellent for central Brixham, near all the Bars and Restaurants. Breakfast was very good.

Review 23:The rooms were a little jaded looking and could do with the wallpaper being stripped off and the walls painted in some contemporary colours. I'd also rather have feather pillows - the foam ones are a bit unyielding. There was no lift and the hotel is a bit of a rabbit warren, both of which made it difficult for my elderly father to get around easily. Nonetheless, these small issues are more than compensated for by the Hotel's good points. We all agreed we'd definitely come and stay here again.

Review 24:The hotel staff are absolutely top notch. They are exceptionally friendly, helpful and efficient - I really can't fault them. The head waiter, Otto, is especially good. It shows that this is a family-owned establishment - it is clean, comfy and well-run. The other notable element is the food, which is really excellent. All I heard from other diners were compliments. With fresh fish daily, home-made walnut bread and a range of ice creams made on the premises, the chef clearly took pride in his work. Delicious.

Review 25:Small twin room is VERY small. I am only 163 cms and hit the ceiling whilst getting undressed. Had to negotiate the door of the ensuite around the bed to get in and out of bathroom.

Review 26:View from room and location were both fantastic, staff very friendly and helpful with local information. Excellent breakfast

Review 27:My only comment is if it is wet the walk uphill to the car park, probably nearer 500metres rather than 350m

Review 28:Fantastic location and easy to find close to the harbour and town. Spectacular view. Good room facilities, good food and very friendly and efficient staff

Review 29:Room too small for two people, (we're quite small/average size), not enough hanging space in wardrobe and not enough space for two suit cases. Forgot our order at breakfast on last day - this spoiled otherwise good relationship with staff.

Review 30:Location, view of harbor from room, quality of breakfast.

Review 31:None. But can you download a parking voucher to print off so you don't need to call into the hotel first?

Review 32:Attentive staff good value for money great location

Review 33:Room really a goo ad single but compact for 2. No drawers. Need Sign warning to mind your head over toilet and push/pull sign on restaurant door. Sweeteners for tea coffee plase.

Review 34:Location. Sea view. Service, Good breakfast. Comfortable bed and modern bathroom. Good TV and kettle.

Review 35:Our 'Snug' room was very small, although it had a great view of the harbour. Not sure it was good value for money, although the larger rooms would definitely be.

Review 36:Wonderful location. Very welcoming and attentive staff.

Review 37:Dogs were only allowed in the bedrooms which means as we will not leave our dog alone we could not eat in the hotel. only after a lot of fuss in the morning were we reluctantly offered the only option was a very small bar. this was not convenient for us so this meant we paid for a breakfast that we could not eat. I would say that the pet friendly tag which is why we booked this hotel was exagerated.

Review 38:The staff were friendly

Review 39:Room too small for my mum and myself. Not enough lighting very dark and no where enough storage space. Room should of been a single and not a twin. Considering we stayed for 7 nights we had NO clean bedding until the last night! !!

Review 40:Coukd not fault the staff and friendliness

Review 41:Stairs a little steep

Review 42:Excellent views Staff friendly and polite Welcome greeting very good Breakfast staff very good and very well organised Breakfast was very good Especially the haddock and poached eggs

Review 43:Only slight downside, space at a premium in Brixham, and parking restrictions on roads. Hotel Car park is a proper tarmac but is 200 metres away, but unloading from roadside into the hotel was possible.

Review 44:Lovely staff; Excellent bathroom Food evening meal and breakfast excellent quality. Price of meal reflected the quality. View over Brixham Harbour outstanding. We stayed on a Monday evening. Even though our room (number 8) was over the bar, we had no problem with noise even with window open.

Review 45:Car park was quite a walk uphill from the hotel and we were lucky to find a space, as some cars weren't parked very well!

Review 46:Location. Good selection at breakfast.

Review 47:Bathroom was slightly on the small side, I struggled to use the shower due to height issues (ism only 5ft6!)

Review 48:Fantastic location, ample free parking, comfortable beds, comfortable rooms, friendly staff!

Review 49:Lumpy hard pillows!

Review 50:The location, the staff, the entertainment and without exception the restaurant. We were a mature family of five aged between 59 and 80 years of age. We dined in the restaurant here and in all the years that I have been fine dining, the experience here was up there with the best of them and what was more, was, that it was so reasonably priced.....Brilliant! Can't shout enough about it!

Review 51:Whilst we have stayed here before and the food is excellent, the menu is mostly fish dishes. Fine for my husband, but I would have liked more choice of fish-free starters and main course dishes. During our 4 night stay I had duck terrain starter on two nights and then with no other option gave up and did without a starter dish.

Review 52:Good location with very welcoming staff. The quirky nature of the hotel means quite a lot of narrow stairs to navigate which can prove difficult at times.

Review 53:Our room was very warm at night. we could not open the door to cool us down as there was a noisy ventilation system outside. This however was not a major problem.

Review 54:Great location overlooking the harbour. Polite, cheerful and helpful staff.

Review 55:- noise from the street (no double-glazed windows, not closing well), cars virtually "driving into one's bed" - small, cramped room (very low ceiling) - laud live rock music until midnight form a bar next door

Review 56:- view on the harbor - ok breakfast

Review 57:Room with terrific view over looking the harbour and fishing port. Decor a bit odd (especially mirror tiles on cupboards and walls) but everything was clean and functional.

Review 58:Did not like the fact that the car park was down the road from the hotel especially as it was raining.

Review 59:The location was ideal, the view fantastic ( room 22) just what we wanted, bathroom was great.

Review 60:Clean and comfortable but quirky. Great breakfast with good coffee, and very friendly staff. Our only problem was that we had the hotel's trick duvet with a big tear in the cover, but they changed it as soon as we told them. If you like a modern chain hotel where every room is the same, this may not be for you. If you like some character, comfort and well-cleaned surroundings, can't recommend it highly enough. All of the staff were friendly, and there were plenty of them, so prompt service as well.

Review 61:Shower cubicle could have done with a revamp, was clean but bit mouldy.

Review 62:Nice food in the Ernie Lister Bar, friendly staff, fab breakfast attentive dining room staff

Review 63:Car park area bit far away. But understand the situation.

Review 64:Lovely hotel, so near to the Harbour. Excellent will be Booking again latter this Year. 10 out of 10. Darryl Tucker.

Review 65:No negative experiences at all

Review 66:Lovely building, fantastic staff, probably the best restaurant in Brixham - (desert menu to die for) , just a very short walk from quay.

Review 67:Due to the structure of the building, the only way to get to the room was to navigate a series of narrow staircases which was difficult when I injured my foot!

Review 68:The location was excellent. The hotel was cosy with free fast wifi. I really enjoyed breakfast, however my partner did not agree.

Review 69:little bit pricey but nice hotel

Review 70:friendly staff, good location, nice meal in restaurant and good car parking which is not easy in this harbour location. would recommend

Review 71:Very much liked how the quaintness of the hotel had been retained. Beautiful view from our room window. Very welcoming staff on our arrival and throughout our stay. Would certainly return if we could.

Review 72:The price of the room was far too high for the size & facilities & general quality.

Review 73:The position & view was very good. The staff were friendly & helpful.

Review 74:Evening meal .prawn cocktail drowned.steak not edible were given refund.waited 20 mins in the hope of coffee but staff were to busy taking photos of sunset over harbour

Review 75:I understand that the seaview location meant no parking on site (though there was parking 350m away. No Air-con which meant leaving ceiling fan running overnight.

Review 76:The pub attached to the hotel had excellent live music

Review 77:Road outside became very restricted when deliveries or clients booking in or out were taking place which led to various altercations and horn sounding.

Review 78:Wonderful views of harbour and ease of access to various dining and drinking locations.

Review 79:There was a fire exit door in the room with a brightly lit sign above it which was quite bright

Review 80:The location was good. Room comfortable. Lovely updated bathroom suite provided a modern touch to the otherwise slightly dated decor.

Review 81:Rooms are dated but comfortable and clean. Not the greatest reception when coming down last for breakfast! Staff too eager to clear the room although we were not late. Chef made a groan from the kitchen when informed we had sat down! Not the greatest way to experience breakfast.

Review 82:Fantastic location, friendly staff.

Review 83:Not being able to hear the fire alarm in the bedroom on two separate occasions and the embarrassment of somebody bursting through the door when I wasn't dressed.

Review 84:The location was great and the hotel was clean and comfortable.

Review 85:I had a very small room, which although functional, was a little basic for the price, but I suppose it's peak season

Review 86:The staff at breakfast were very good and attentive. The location is great - central to all amenities in Brixham and the free parking is a bonus

Review 87:As a couple of 76 & 80 off site car park up a very steep hill over 1/2 mile walk An elevator for us 'old folks' would be greatly apreciated.lu

Review 88:Staff so helpful & happy Pets are welcome in some rooms The Superior room (ours) well appointed

Review 89:The standard of cleanliness in room/bathroom could be greatly improved. There were lots of flies! Could do with a deep clean. The balcony would enhance view if it were see-through.

Review 90:The staff were brilliant! The dining room was very well run and impeccably clean. The location is fantastic. Room service 10/10.

Review 91:View from the room. Staff lovely. Food amazing. We had a superior room with balcony and it was one of the loveliest rooms we've stayed in ever! Shower was good and strong!

Review 92:Not being able to have breakfast until 7.45am, unfortunately we left at 7.30. Breakfast bag was left for us in the kitchen, but this was for one person and we were a couple. Would have preferred a bed only option.

Review 93:The view

Review 94:The rooms are a little tired, although clean and functional.

Review 95:Great view, overlooking Brixham harbour. Private car parking is a big plus, and staff were friendly and efficient.

Review 96:No lift and stairs quite narrow in places especially when carrying bags and suitcases

Review 97:Food was good and the room we had was great but the television was a bit small for the size of the room

Review 98:My mum and dad stayed here for the weekend to celebrate my dads 60th birthday. They had a super weekend. They were so impressed with the room and the beautiful view. They had their evening meals in the hotel too and said all the food was absolutely gorgeous.

Review 99:Housekeeping not up to scratch - e.g. requested a second hand towell which was not produced, so had to ask again the following day. Short of shower gel and shampoo but lots of body lotion on the first day. On the last day of our break the room had only been parcially cleaned - the floor in the shower room had not been washed, or the carpet hoovered, nor the cups washed or shower gel replaced etc. Owner apologised and gave us a discount of £10. To note there is not a lift in this hotel.

Review 100:The views from our room of the harbour were great (Room 34), and the room was very light. Plenty of choice at breakfast & requested soya milk was available. Friendly staff. Free Wi-Fi.

Review 101:Parking terrible could even get in the car park and was quite a distance away. Breakfast was poor quality and we had half a piece of black pudding quarter of a piece of fried bread and had to ask for baked beans as they don't come on the traditional English breakfast over priced for what you get

Review 102:The view was good

Review 103:The only downside was the shower, there was no pressure to speak of and it ran hot then cold and vice versa. Everything else very good thank you.

Review 104:Location excellent, staff all helpful & polite, room & hotel itself nice & clean.

Review 105:Such a friendly hotel and the staff worked brilliantly as a team to ensure we were well looked after all the while we were there. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was full of character and our room had everything we could have needed. The bed was so comfortable too - always a bonus!

Review 106:Dinner was not first class. Adequate, although starter was dried out and burnt to a crisp. Cost was deducted from bill. Stairs to second floor are a climb. No lift.

Review 107:Room and bathroom recently refurbished, I would guess. good quality furnishings and fittings. Food was good, not excellent. Wines are very good. Overall a very pleasant stay

Review 108:The breakfast was a bit mean. One egg, one sausage, one rasher and half a thin slice of black pudding. That really was a bit mean. Then instead of being charged £115 as per the quote the final bill was £125. Perhaps an explanation will be forthcoming.

Review 109:The bed was very comfortable. The overall condition of the bedroom was good, but the tiling needed maintenance in the shower room. That applies to room 8

Review 110:The kitchen staff lost our breakfast order so people arriving after us in the restaurant were served long before us and it was a while before the manager realised. He was very apologetic.

Review 111:The hotel was clean though we thought slightly overpriced. We had a warm welcome on arrival and the receptionist was very friendly. Free parking available in the hotel carpark just 5 minutes walk away

Review 112:There is nothing to be done about it, but dont bother washing your car before going there, the sea gulls use shiny objects for target practice.

Review 113:We had a front double room (number 5), with great view of the quay, room was very coumfortable, clean and warm, and quiet during night once the traffic died down. The breakfast was excelent, and in the adjoining pub there was a good selection of drinks.Good to have free car parking.

Review 114:The evening meal was below par, the monkfish special was warm not hot. The hotel is very dated.

Review 115:The location is perfect, the sea view we had was excellent. The staff were attentive and pleasant and the room was very clean. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 116:Bed was so small, due to availability we had room at back of property which was very small and of an average standard for the price we paid.

Review 117:Ideal location for Brixham and staff very friendly

Review 118:There's nothing to dislike, it's very hilly but I felt I was getting a bit of exercise.........

Review 119:The whole atmosphere was lovely,it's a very busy place yet we felt very relaxed......

Review 120:My room was too hot at night so turned on portable aircon.. sounded like a Russian tractor. Still managed a goodnights sleep, not so sure about the rest of the guests!

Review 121:Great staff and food. Brilliant wifi.

Review 122:The room was pretty poky. The ensuite shower-room was the smallest I think I have ever seen - difficult to arrange I imagine as the building is very old and the ceilings very low but perhaps too many rooms had been divided up out of the buildings, it felt really small for £125 a night.

Review 123:Loved the short stroll down the quayside to the restaurants etc (great fish restaurant/chippy at the bottom of the hill) Lovely view from the bedroom window. It was quiet at night despite a party going on in the bar below. Breakfast was fine, everything was clean.

Review 124:The view from our bedroom over Brixham harbour was stunning. They allowed our little Pug puppy and made a fuss of her which was lovely. Breakfast was delicious, a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Review 125:The breakfast was a bit poor. The small double bed was too small for two sharing to allow both to have a comfortable sleep.

Review 126:Hotel is a bit quirky, however overall a nice hotel with clean rooms, friendly staff and a great location. We would stay again.

Review 127:I got a last minute deal so I wasn't able to spend time looking into the standards of the room. The room I had was small, stuffy, pokey and with awfully low ceilings and poor shower.

Review 128:The food was fantastic, and the staff were wonderful!

Review 129:The first room was filthy but they moved us to a better room straight away, expensive for the room we first had but ok for the upgraded one

Review 130:The staff are so helpful and friendky

Review 131:The hotel is a little "tired" but is being updated in areas. However, this did not spoil the overall experience.

Review 132:The food and staff are excellent. The seafood was a treat as was the breakfast.

Review 133:The decor inthe room was tired and needed updating The chicken burger my partner ordered in the bar wasn't cooked properly. They did rectify it and refunded the cost but it was off putting.

Review 134:The breakfast was very good The staff were pleasant

Review 135:shower didn't work, so had to have a bath. We will upgrade to a better room if we return, as our room was very small.

Review 136:Lovely atmosphere, very nice manager. We especially enjoyed the dinner.

Review 137:Nothing.

Review 138:Always greeted with a smile at Quayside hotel. They couldn't be more helpful even though very busy. Great location over looking the harbour. This was our third time we have stayed and would stay anywhere else in Brixham.

Review 139:They advertise parking but on every occasion when we got back it was full and there was absolutely no where to park but on the road The receptionist said they rent out car park spaces and it was a busy weekend. They need to sort this out and put in place a barrier or allocate a parking bay to each room

Review 140:Staff very friendly
