Reviews for The Woodvale

Review 1:Bed was a little hard but still slept well.

Review 2:Roaring fire the first night we arrived. Good menu options. Staff were lovely. Individual radiators so we could adjust the heat as we liked. Free parking. Good wi-fi.

Review 3:Disappointed to have booked two rooms for the same price but one room was not the same standard. After complaining I was moved to a better room.

Review 4:Clean. Pleasant staff. Near the beach

Review 5:Not enough plug sockets in room. Layout in bathroom could be better.

Review 6:Very spacious room. Having a sofa & coffee table a nice touch. Staff very accommodating.

Review 7:Bed small & uncomfortable. Suggest only take a small case to your room as stairs are steep and narrow.

Review 8:Staff very friendly & helpful. Quiet location . Both breakfast & dinner on location were excellent

Review 9:Food was hearty pub food and not fine dining as advertised.

Review 10:Location Excellent ,Room Excellent, Staff Excellent. Breakfast Excellent with a great view.

Review 11:Having to come home!

Review 12:Fabulous location, pub downstairs, great food, lovely staff, great views at breakfast, lovely lady serving breakfast very attentive, will definitely be staying again

Review 13:Room small and bland, bathroom good size but water system ridiculously noisy, fire doors on landing banged shut and again noisy. Breakfast ok, but no fruit available. View from bedroom window included broken chairs and pallets.

Review 14:Position ideal as friends renting cottage locally. Staff welcoming and helpful.

Review 15:Stairs a little steep when negotiating them with our cases.

Review 16:Staff were all very friendly. Food in the bar was of very high quality. Very well located within a few yards of the seafront.

Review 17:The stairs may be a problem for some people

Review 18:Room was certainly not Cramped The whole hotel was clean and tidy very friendly breakfast was lovely and the view over the Solent

Review 19:We stayed for a single night with our son who is two. I was warmly welcomed with the offer to help with our bags up the stairs. The room was clean comfortable and had a lovely view. The room already had a good quality travel for made up and had a good shower, excellent fan ( as it was a balmy night ) and was well suited to our family. Breakfast was a large selection and all very nice. Overall everything was great- if the room had a balcony it would have been amazing just because the view is so spectacular but otherwise there really isn't any room for improvement!

Review 20:Porridge undercooked. Poached egg overcooked. It was edible but it's about common sense.

Review 21:Host was very welcoming and the evening meal was served quickly and well done. Much appreciated.

Review 22:Great location with lovely view of the sea from the room and the breakfast room. Very friendly and helpful owner/manager and staff. Great breakfast.

Review 23:Wifi intermittent on top floor

Review 24:Room was high quality and good value with Super View. Huge food portions served in bar/restaurant but good value pub type menu. Breakfast top notch with gentle waitress service and a smile. Quiet at night despite seafront location.

Review 25:Perfect hotel for a break to the Isle of Wight. Fantastic seafront location, lovely staff, clean tidy comfortable rooms. Lovely food in the restaurant. Will definately be returning next year!

Review 26:Instant coffee only, offered at breakfast. Absolutely inexcusable these days, especially when cafetieres are so cheap. Waitress also didn't bring or offer any toast at breakfast.

Review 27:warm welcome when we arrived and at the bar later in the evening when we came down for our meal. Host offered tasting of wine in the bar.

Review 28:Long walk into west cowes so had to drive and pay parking charges also had to park in street as hotel had no car park

Review 29:we booked this hotel as venue for family party - able to book in early and see West Cowes and also get ready for event and didn't have to worry about getting taxis etc at end - also were able to use chain ferry to catch red funnel boat back to mainland

Review 30:A lot of stairs to rooms, not a problem for me but could be a problemfor some. Slightly misleading description as more of an inn withaccomodation than a hotel but this actually was a very pleasantexperience. Free wi fi was very slow.

Review 31:Breakfast was very good, food in restaurant/bar was excellent, andvery good choice. Staff were all very nice and very helpful. Comfortablerooms with all facilities and lovely view over solent.

Review 32:Easy to book, straightforward check in on arrival. Staff very friendly and helpful - offered assistance with luggage and reserved a table for dinner in case we wanted it. Excellent food (breakfast and dinner). Room was a high standard and very clean.

Review 33:Bed was rock hard. Fresh fruit would have been nice. Lots if stairs to get cases up

Review 34:The room was a lovely size and very clean ,with sitting area.cooked breakfast fresh and hot. Position of hotel ideal for touring round Isle of wight.very close to Cowes. Lovely views.

Review 35:The only thing was that a business conference took the dining room one day (breakfast in the bar). Weekend live music was ok unless you need an early night! This is "picky" really overall was very good.

Review 36:The rooms at the front have wonderful views over the Solent, right through Hurst castle. Breakfast was relaxed & very intimate and again the view from the table was gorgeous. Lovely room, friendly staff.

Review 37:The breakfast was average. UHT milk not fresh, and the cooked breakfast could do with some improvement.

Review 38:The family room was spacious and comfortable Just across the way there is a good playground for children up to about seven years old.

Review 39:The only slight criticism is that we didn't realise that it wasn't in the centre of Cowes. It is just outside Cowes in Gurnard which is a good half hour walk away. Having said that, I would still stay there again if we have another holiday in the Isle of Wight.

Review 40:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. We had a couple of evening meals there as well as the breakfasts. The room was very comfortable and, although the hotel had live music on at the weekend, we were not disturbed by the noise. The hotel has great views over the water.

Review 41:The hotel rooms were above a pub which in itself was not a problem as they were far away not to be disturbed and had their own entrance. However, the outside did look a bit like a run down pub and could do with some sprucing up to match the clean and well kept rooms inside.

Review 42:The hotel was nicely situated near a shingle beach about 2 miles from Cowes. The room was small but very clean as was the bathroom with a good power shower and hot water. The wifi was free with a good signal, the staff were pleasant and the nicely cooked breakfast was served in a newly furnished room with a wonderful sea view.

Review 43:Nothing - all good!

Review 44:Everything was wonderful here. A very big surprise because we couldn't find anywhere to stay at last minute. Very clean, wonderful staff, wonderful food, amazing view out to sea, especially as it was Cowes week. The owner was charming and we can't wait to stay again when coming over on business.

Review 45:Everything was great.

Review 46:The friendly, very helpful staff. My daughter had her 7 week old baby with her and they were very obliging with ice for the cool box and heating the sterilizer in the microwave. Excellent breakfast with refills of juice and milk and hot water for tea.

Review 47:We ate in the Woodvale the two nights we were there and it was very busy both nights , the food was good but have had better .

Review 48:The head bar man was very helpful . We were biking so he lent us a good map . All the staff were lovely . Asked for fried bread in the morning with our breakfast and it was done . The staff went out their way to please . There was everything in your room that you would want and a good selection at breakfast.

Review 49:We felt so welcome and the team, especially the manager Kevin, really looked after us and helped us - even serving breakfast earlier than normal so we would be set up for the long distance event we had travelled to compete in. This really helped us make the most of our time there. The room (1) was large and clean and the beds were comfy. The location is right near the beach with lovely views. It is about 2km from central Cowes but it's a lovely stroll along the front to get there. We'll be back with our families next time.

Review 50:We have stayed in 4 * hotels around the world. This may be a 4* pub? but not a 4* hotel. It is not even in Cowes. The (welcome to) Cowes sign is about a 10 minute walk away. It is about a 30 min walk to Cowes town. Woodvale is opposite the Guernard Sailing Club!

Review 51:Pleasant staff. Clean. Friendly pub. Nice spot near the sea if you don't want to be in Cowes

Review 52:Wish there were a balcony attached to the rooms.

Review 53:Sufficiently remote but still walking distance from Cowes and its attraction. Very friendly and polite service. Excellent breakfast. Confortable room.

Review 54:Shower cubicle way too small. Room can get very hot in summer and no air con. Thin walls are quite thin so a lot of noise from the auto closing doors slamming behind people entering rooms or moving through halls.

Review 55:Great location by the beach. Lovely room cleaned immaculately every day. Fantastic breakfast with stunning view over the Solent. Characterful traditional pub with great food.

Review 56:Very hot , stuffy small room with small bed. High pitched whine from nearby hot water pump whch was turned off late at night after complaints from us. Moderate breakfast with no fresh fruit or croissons. No comfortable lounge area, and very scruffy /dirty entrance area. This hotel only rates as a 2-3 star, and certainly not any higher. I have stayed at five star hotels that charged far less then £160 per night, and offered a far higher standard!

Review 57:The position and view of the sea

Review 58:The only downside to the accommodation was not having a lift. We found it okay but anyone with mobility problems would not find it easy.

Review 59:The food in the pub was excellent and also the breakfasts.

Review 60:Hard pillows A bit warm in the room, but hey ! we don't get weather like this very often

Review 61:Room (1) was excellent, very smart and spacious. Bathroom very good, excellent shower Wide choice of beers and food. Nice views from room

Review 62:The staff were very friendly and helpful. As taxi service was poor the hotel owner drive me to the ferry terminus - a kindness well beyond the call of duty! I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Review 63:Check in for hotel was in the pub and we could see no signs giving this info, so we walked around the place looking for registration.

Review 64:Staff was helpful and caring in every way regarding our stay and giving us information about the Isle of Wight. Pub was fun and music was great! Parking out front was easy in and out.

Review 65:Friendly staff.Lovely room with sea view.Spotless bathroom. Good food in the bar in the evening. Excellent breakfast overlooking the Solent.

Review 66:The bed was rock hard. Too many stairs and on the expensive side for out of season.

Review 67:It was by the sea. Food was nice

Review 68:Having to leave !

Review 69:The staff couldn't have been nicer. They were really pleasant.

Review 70:Very hospitable friendly staff and excellent food

Review 71:We were in rooms 1& 4. They need heating in bathrooms and shower tiles need cleaning at bottom. But only minor things

Review 72:Rooms and food. Top class

Review 73:Location.excellent clean rooms .

Review 74:Room was excellent with great sea views. Staff were excellent.

Review 75:Room was very warm , but their was a fan in the room so that helped. The view from our window

Review 76:The location and the pub restrauant

Review 77:Lovely location looking over sea. Friendly staff, lovely breakfast. Bedroom clean and comfy bed.

Review 102:LOCATION

Review 103:Really need some slippers in the bedroom. The bathroom flor is freezing beyond belief

Review 104:The location - and the fact that although you were staying above a pub, it didn't feel that way, much like a hotel.
