Reviews for Tarvic2 Hotel
Review 1:The outside looks poor and run down slightly, but we shouldn't judge a book by its cover.
Review 2:The staff are friendly. It's very clean a warm . Dont be fooled by the outside it's a beautiful place inside. Staff come in EVERY day to replace tea, coffee milk. More if you ask. We would certainly go back. Excellent bus service on the doorstep.
Review 3:Parking: There are only 5 parking bays on the side-road of the hotel, which were often filled. So at times we had to park on the main street, which is only free in the off-peak months (Nov-Feb). Not sure where we would park if we had visited in the peak months. Plug sockets: The room only had 2 sockets, which weren't enough to charge mobiles/tablets/cameras etc. So next time I would take a 4-way extension lead.
Review 4:Excellent location. Close to beach and local restaurants and attractions. Very spacious room for 2 adults and 2 children (aged 5 & 4). The room also had an amazing view of the sea with large windows and a balcony to enjoy the sunrises on. Also, being on the first floor meant that we were able to pick up a strong wifi signal from the hotel's lounge below. Very friendly staff.
Review 5:When wanting to have a drink at the bar we were told cash only. Only having 'plastic we asked if it could be put onto our room tab, but this was not possible. Late at night difficult to go out and find a 'hole in the wall'. The outside of the hotel desperately needs attention and belies the warmth inside.
Review 6:Cleanliness was great and small personal touches were good. Staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful
Review 7:Mattresses felt as if we were sleeping on concrete. It would be nicer if the local council allowed the planned extensions to go ahead.
Review 8:Staff were generally very pleasant.
Review 9:The beds were a bit hard but did not put us off.
Review 10:Staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast good value and tasty. Bar reasonably priced and useful for our stay. Will use the hotel again.
Review 11:The bed was hideous, very hard, dirty duvet, the room was incredibly basic, the decor was tired and from the outside it was appalling. The food was basic but plentiful.
Review 12:The staff were polite and helpful, the owner a little over friendly, but good nonetheless
Review 13:It was all good except the stuff told us that the water from our showering may leak out and downwards (we lived in first floor the)...cannot endure with that because it was not our problem... And no wifi..but not a very big deal
Review 14:Great location with beautiful sea view, just outside the window, good public transport, neat and tidy, and good English breakfast though £4 per person
Review 15:We were really happy. The staff really made the hotel. Everyone was friendly and we were looked after well.
Review 16:The hotel was clean and the staff were all fantastic. We travelled out of season so it was quiet but they had still made a big effort to decorate the hotel for Christmas. :0) Breakfast was nice and the staff were always happy to help. Nothing was too much trouble. For the price you couldn't complain. The rooms were large and our children loved staying there. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Review 17:Misleading pictures and reviews on website. Exterior old building site and derelict building outside. Very squeaky bed and hard mattress. Tired décor and furniture. Very limited parking spaces and wifi only available near reception. Room and towels not cleaned everyday.
Review 18:Good location and good breakfast
Review 19:Lack of parking - on street available, but fees payable during the day. Outside of the property very off-putting. Windows to front room overlooking sea - very draughty
Review 20:good breakfast, clean and tidy rooms
Review 21:Our bed was a little hard but each to their won!
Review 22:Great location, right on the beach. Family room with bunk beds worked well for us (always a challenge!)
Review 23:We didn't know the only access for the hotel was via steps my husband uses a wheelchair and this gave us some problems.
Review 24:The staff and owner were really helpful the Dining Room was a delight but the rest of the hotel needs a bit of upgrading I think they are doing it gradually. Nice and clean though.
Review 25:Not overmodernised or standardised: nice individual atmosphere. Liked the pieces of vintage furniture on the landings. One-minute from bus-stop! Everyone helpful. Room 118 was very quiet.
Review 26:Unfortunately there was some building work going on at front of building (was a weekend so no work going on, so didn't impact on our sleep) Could do with a bit of modernising.
Review 27:Got a friendly reception. Offered to help carry bags to room. Nice hot shower, drink making in room. (as some reviews said, hard beds, but we sleeped fine). Right opposite beach and walking distance to town. Enjoyed the cooked breakfast, which also included toast and jam, hot drink and juice.
Review 28:The bar was hopeless. We ordered a drink and were sitting right next to the bar and the bar man just left the fdrinks on the counter when he could have walked one metre and put it on the table. We were the only people in the bar at the time
Review 29:Location was good. Right on the seafront. Breakfast was good
Review 30:The bar was limited. Breakfast did not start until 8:30.
Review 31:Staff very helpful, in particular in storing my bicycle. They seemed very honest. There was a vegetarian option at breakfast. My room was nicely made up when I returned in the evening.
Review 32:Although it was mid September there were a couple of cold days when it would have been nice for the radiators to have switched on
Review 33:we liked the views over Sandown bay.The very friendly staff were so helpful too.
Review 34:The bed creeked and as such was pretty dismal. The whole place could do with a complete refurb. I found our room quite hot and was disappointed that there were no fans available to use.
Review 35:The view from our room (101) was amazing. Very clean too and the staff were super friendly. Shower had really good pressure too (although overflowed quite easily)
Review 36:No lift therefore no disabled access. Toilets in communal area bad as only one for each without going to room. Looking very tired. No information displayed regarding door closure or supplied on check in. Friends charger disappeared from room. So called entertainment non existent.
Review 37:Seaview
Review 38:Mattress on bed was like sleeping on the floor boards, hotel looked derelict, Sandown itself was very run down and no good restaurant to eat in, nothing to do in Sandown
Review 39:Breakfast was ok
Review 40:One of my colleagues had a leak in his room from heavy rain and soaked the bed, however he got moved and refunded for a night.
Review 41:Staff are really friendly and welcoming. We were working at Bestival and getting back at around 2am, and there was no problem with staff letting us in.
Review 42:Bed was a little bit hard and hotel could do with a lift installed
Review 43:Clean hotel, friendly staff and good location Lovely sea view room We would return to Tarvic 2 again.
Review 44:The only problem we had was that it was quite chilly in the room and we had a two year old with us. The heating didn't come on until about 9.30 in the evening.
Review 45:The location was ideal right on the promenade and near to all the amusements and beach. The staff were very friendly and helpful. When we got there we were even given help to put the cot up in our room.
Review 46:We read a review before we travelled about the beds being too firm. This was the case and woke everyday with an aching back.
Review 47:Location for beach and buses to get round the island. Breakfast good and friendly staff.
Review 48:My daughters bed was broken I asked them if they could sort it out. Never was done so we all have restless nights as the bed creaked VERY LOUD when she moved or turned over
Review 49:location right on the sea front
Review 50:As above.
Review 51:Staff very friendly. Room was clean and decorated well. Room was small and the outlook was poor from the window. Bed the mattress was too hard and bed frame made it uncomfortable to sit on side of bed. Breakfast was good. Plenty to eat and waitresses were friendly and attentive.
Review 52:No brown bread for breakfast
Review 53:The location was excellent and great to have a sea view. The room was very spacious Cleanliness was always very good Staff were very helpful and friendly Outstanding value for money
Review 54:it was rather galling to find a lot of building materials outside the breakfast room same for view from our rooms rear window. apart from one helpful member of staff people at reception need to smile more
Review 55:our room was clean and well furnished and quiet.it has a good location directly opposite the beach.
Review 56:The building needs renovating a bit in some parts as it still looks old and a bit tired.
Review 57:The staff are helpful and friendly. The room was clean and the decor was fine.
Review 58:The staff may have not been there. The hallway was a joke and looked like something out of a harem ! There were building works still going on out the front.well I say going on but they had obviously stopped for a while and nothing had been done. Where it says parking on the website you are safer if you park on the seafront after six
Review 59:The bathroom was clean
Review 60:There was a bit of a smell coming from the toilets as you leave the bar and take the stairs to the rooms. Also there was no entertainment and one of the reasons I picked the hotel was it advertised entertainment though I did ring to check before I arrived and the staff did explain it would depend on how many were in the bar. The hotel was pretty full the weekend we stayed.
Review 61:The full english breakfast here was fantastic. The staff were helpful and portions were generous with extra juice and toast no problem. The bar area was nice and a wonderful view overlooking the sea from the bar and breakfast dining room. The family room was clean and comfortable. I liked the labels you put on the door if you wanted your room to be cleaned or a choice if you didn't want to be disturbed. Nice friendly guy who checked us out on departure. I will definately be going back!
Review 62:Balconies on top outside family rooms need cleaning and the sea view windows need to be refurbished. Main reception door needs refurbishment too.
Review 63:Excellent & Very Courteous Staff
Review 64:Looks like there's some building work going on so there's no parking.
Review 65:My group of three agreed the beds were firm, but we all liked it that way anyway. The staff (especially the lady on the front desk) were very friendly and helpful. Great location.
Review 66:The overall experience at the hotel. It looked like the hotel rooms were too old. We had to struggle with the door handle and the lock even to open the door.
Review 67:The location was good.
Review 68:Beds were rock hard and like sleeping on the floor. (We asked for a spare duvet to put under the bottom sheet to try to make them more comfy but they didn't have any spares!) Could have done with blackout curtains as children woke at dawn! Room positioned right over evening entertainment too which was not ideal for family room as noisy in the evening. Approx 5 car parking spaces for the hotel otherwise had to pay for on- street parking
Review 69:Staff v friendly and helpful. Great seafront location
Review 70:The mattress was slightly hard but still slept well. Visit to the Needles extremely over rated. Would not waste the money.
Review 71:Excellent location- having never visited Isle of Wight before this is the best location right on the sandy beach. Toured the whole island the next day some parts nice but sandown was the best. Excellent restaurants along the seafront too just a 5 min stroll from hotel.
Review 72:Shower head is leaking. Shower area a bit small. Kettle needed to be de-scaled. Property needs a new coat of paint.
Review 73:Staff were very nice and accommodating. Room had an excellent view of the sea and it is a good size.
Review 74:*Hard bed. *Only parking for 6 cars. *No storage draws for clothes, especially in a family room, ..ours were mostly left on the floor. *Broken balcony railings.
Review 75:*Excellent location. *Nice large family room. *Nice bathroom. *Nice tea making facilities in room. *Friendly staff. *Good price. *Nice food. *Wifi *Will happily return. :)
Review 76:The hotel is getting on overhaul. But once done it should be a lot better.
Review 77:Being able to sit and see the sea, outside. Also the Carnival Parade, going pass.
Review 78:The carpet in the bar/lounge area looked quite shabby. The coffe served at breakfast I honestly thought was week tea!
Review 79:My room was cleaned very well and thankfully there were tasty instant coffe in the room
Review 80:Bed was rock hard and room was stuffy had job to open windows. Hotel like a building site poor parking facility's , overall not very good at all
Review 81:Statf friendly
Review 82:the appeaarance of the hotel from the front looks run down reception and seating area were dated there was a smell when entering the hotel which put me of , but i was shown three rooms which were clean and tidy. breakfast was nice but was all pre-cooked so eggs were hard.
Review 83:sea front, friedly staff,
Review 84:Hotel is looking a bit tired these days. Could do with at least refurbishing the rooms and they were a bit lifeless and dull. Exterior of hotel was obviously under construction but looked a real mess and an eye sore. Perhaps covering this up temporarily would entice more people to stay.
Review 85:Staff were VERY friendly and helpful. Raised a problem about the room and it was fixed straight away.
Review 86:No wifi available in rooms, only in bar the wifi is available, the bathroom is small, We are tiny people so we are squeesed in shower.....
Review 87:The place is value for money, close to beach and local shops, nice staff, nice rooms but they are but small
Review 88:Lack of parking and very uncomfortable bed or brick.
Review 89:Outside of hotel and area very run down, so feared the worse. The inside was as per web site, clean and well decorated.
Review 90:The dome light was broken, I asked the staff to repair it, but no one do it. I used desk lamp in the 2 nights. Cannot connect to Wi-Fi in our room. The breakfast was not good.
Review 91:Really close to the beach.
Review 92:Generally a bit tatty, old fashioned & in need on some TLC! Only an hour slot for breakfast - the staff were frantic!
Review 93:Friendly staff. Right on the beach. Really clean rooms & bathroom. Great bar prices! Free breakfast for children.
Review 94:3rd visit for us over festival weekend and brilliant as always. Lovely, friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are always spotless with everything you need.
Review 95:You get wet turnin the shower on as it faces the door. The floor was dusty. The bed was very hard and creaked every time you move. I woke up loads because of this.
Review 96:The view. The sound of the sea in the morning. My room was nice too.
Review 97:the whole hotel was very run down and basic, the view outside of our window was of rubble and smashed toilets, breakfast was very disappointing, poor value for money, would not recommend
Review 98:we liked the location
Review 99:We had a family room with kids, and it did not have "block-out" curtains on the windows, so there was lots of light coming in early in the morning. This woke up the kids and affected our sleep. They need to block out the morning light like all good hotels do.
Review 100:Not a bad experience but we would of preferred it if breakfast was served at least an hour earlier The premises were a bit "tired" in places
Review 101:Quiet location at night & very convenient Right by the beach Speed of service at breakfast
Review 102:The Car park was behind the hotel and initially we missed it. From had some building works going on (but was not noisy). We booked on line and paid for breakfast for 4 adults and two rooms.. The on-line company only sent confirmation for 1 breakfast and two rooms at the price quoted. so had to pay for two more breakfasts (not the fault of the hotel I think).
Review 103:The Bed, The En suit was a good size.
Review 104:We paid a very good price for the room, so it honestly met our expectations.
Review 105:The room was clean and functional. The bed was comfortable - appreciated to have a kettle with coffee/tea for the price we paid. Sandown has not been our favourite part of the IOW but the location of the hotel is very good, by the beach and 2 minutes from restaurants and bars. Walkable distance to Shanklin by the beach promenade.
Review 106:The bed was broken (listing to one side!) and creaked all night, it was like sleeping on a board, I don't think it had a mattress! The family room was directly above the dance floor, so very noisy and difficult to get 2 young children to sleep. The huge window opened completely, so we had to put a chair in front of the huge window to stop the girls from exploring! When looking out of the window, you could see railings on a balcony, but if you looked right, there was a sheer drop at the end of the balcony. Not safe for children.
Review 107:The staff are really lovely and doing the very best they can, nothing was a problem, they made us feel very welcome, this review is about the state of the hotel and not the staff.
Review 108:We stayed at the royal pier hotel at sandown a few weeks ago a starving was full, we were very dissatisfied at the room and service from the manager was awful! We have stayed at Torvic 2 before and would recommend it to everyone . A little work is being done on the outside but inside its beautiful the staff are friendly and rooms fab !
Review 109:The bed was rock hard we had back ache the next day.
Review 110:The location of the hotel is perfect for the beach. The staff were friendly & helpful. The room and bathroom were clean.
Review 111:Very understaffed, limited availability on the menu because of staffing, kitchen porter provided couple of baguettes but they were not brilliant. Drinks from bar but no ice. Beds were uncomfortable and breakfast minimal. Not a brilliant stay
Review 112:Hotel situation was good - the member of staff managing the hotel was on his own so trying to manage reception, bar, food and customer requests
Review 113:bed was uncomfortable, No wifi, heating was still on in the morning. Occasional overpowering smell from drains.
Review 114:Room was bright, Very Clean and all we needed for a 1 night stay.
Review 115:Bed was tiny & room was really hot!
Review 116:Staff were really friendly & helpful. Breakfast was really good. Could benefit from iron and hair dryer in room. but overall was value for money
Review 117:The mattress was very hard &uncomfortable. View from bedroom was brick wall close the window-felt claustrophobic! Parking was very limited-3pull in spaces at the side of building.
Review 118:Clean bed linen & towels.Shower although small was good.
Review 119:The beds I did not like.and the sweeping of the floor could of been done a few more times knowing that there is a sandy beach opposite the hotel.not just when you arrive and leave.
Review 120:I love the isle of Wight.and to have the hotel near shops and the beach was good to be close to every thing.
Review 121:Restricted parking, hotel is in serious need of a makeover, bed mattresses felt like they were made of wood.
Review 122:Handy location, bedroom overlooked the beach. Nice breakfast at a good price, nice bar open in the evenings.
Review 123:A lovely location with staff which were helpful and friendly. Rooms have everything required for a comfortable stay and the Wifi connection was excellent. Would definitely stay there again as it was good value for money.
Review 124:Roof was leaking and nearly had all our clothes and camera equipment ruined. The staff were not friendly. Poor breakfast options
Review 125:Shower and the bathroom
Review 126:How run down the town was it's such a shame for a lovely hotel like this the council need to give the hotels and people there a lot more support nothing bad to stay about the hotel itself
Review 127:Staff are lovely and very helpful rooms are very clean and comfortable right on the beach lovely stay
Review 128:Bit old restaurant and lobby.
Review 129:Very clean and comfy. Great location right on the beach and high street. 5 min walk to Dinosaur Isle and 10 min to Zoo. Staff friendly and polite. Room nice and comfortable And spacious (we had family room) Fast and free WI Fi in room.
Review 130:The toliet did not flush, the £4 breakfast what we had need a vast improvement the whole thing tasted like it was microwaved . Wifi key was not present to us on arival and we did not get the code till the next morning which was quite usless to us at this point , we after returning to the hotel about 3 oclock in the morning we later on required to leave the hotel to go back out to the garage and to have cigarette as we felt it was a little impolite to smoke in the room so we went down stairs to go outside and notised thw door was acctually locked with a sign saying please ring buzzer for attention but the only buzzer which was avalible was on the outside of the locked main door so we could not leave the premises and did not know where to look for the receptionist. Over all rating of this hotel is a 3. Value is a 7 . I would of much rather paided an extra 30-40 pound and be able to do everything that was not avalible to me or the company I kept .
Review 131:Current building work going on did not say this on website and I know we stay out of season but no evening dining come on and be honest why say you have two restaurants ! Takes along time to get cold water from sink tap in room V203 ? Cleaning teeth with warm water not nice and colour of water not as should be !! Good value family room £60 per night but would I stay here again ??? No
Review 132:Breakfast ok but was in fairness pre-cooked so only warm and hard eggs ! Breakfast staff very good. Lovely size family room nice & clean but very old building so un-even floors etc.
Review 133:the hotel is a bit dated but staff are good and helpful breakfast is very good and well worth the money, rooms very clean but bed very hard,we stayed one night and was happy.
Review 134:Very dated! Cleaning left a bit to be desired in places. Could do with redecorating inside and out. Probably wouldn't re book this hotel
Review 135:The location was excellent! Staff we friendly and helpful.
Review 136:Wifi - we were lucky that we had it as our room was in the range but others room don't have it as its only downstairs.
Review 137:Beautiful view from a window to the sea
Review 138:Bed was a bit hard. Room a bit small but ok for one night.
Review 139:Staff were very friendly & curtious. Very nice full English breakfast. Room was nice and clean.
Review 140:The breakfast is so poor in quality Everything exist in the hotel rolls on the cheapest possible option in quality.. U feel there are only one person at a time running the whole hotel
Review 141:The time of check in..
Review 142:The worst nights sleep I've had in a long time. My bed was so hard I thought I was sleeping on the floor
Review 143:The staff we're really polite and helpful, they always tried to answer everything and do their best. Breakfast was also plentiful.
