Reviews for Best Western Hôtel Montgomery

Review 1:They promised Wifi and it was so bad, they should state no wifi. Ibooked the hotel through booking.com so they refused to give us bestwestern points for the stay.

Review 2:The staff were very kind and helpful. The room was small but ok. We werein the 1st floor with no elevator...

Review 3:It is a beautiful historic property, on Main Street of town, close to train station. Beautiful bedrooms, using tasteful decor and comfortable beds and large French windows with lots of light and fresh air.

Review 4:The room itself was very nice, but the separate toilet in our room was very tiny and very difficult to manouver in and out with a very nosy and stiff sliding door, the bathroom was also small.

Review 5:The location was good

Review 6:Wonderful attention to detail. There were 3 of us and there was three of everything in the room including terri cloth robes. Wished we had more than one night there.

Review 7:Friendly staff who put themselves out to help us, despite our pathetic attempts to speak French!, Lovely comfortable and clean room, great value, will definateley use again if in area

Review 8:The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel was very pretty and individual, not what we expected from a chain. We had a lovely meal down the road from a choice of restaurants. We parked directly outside the front door of the hotel which was perfect.

Review 9:Best Western Montgomery is located at the end of the main street in Pontorson, a small provincial town on the border of Britanny and Normandy and 10 kilometres from Mont St Michel. The building is an old mansion with modern facilities. We had booked a large triple room on the second floor with a decent bathroom and huge comfortable king size bed. The single bed is useful to leave things on! There is a kettle and coffee/tea, etc., and free wi-fi but the signal was not very strong. It is OK in the small lobby outside the door. The reception staff are great, helpful and friendly. We did not take breakfast as there are plenty of places around where we were going. There is a warm comfortable bar for coffee and calvados at night after dinner in one of the several good restaurants in town. We were here to film on Mont St Michel for a couple of days and it was bitterly cold. The hotel is lovely and warm and great to get home to after days out. We used the shuttle bus from the Gare SNCF (train station) up the street to get to the Mont and on one occasion walked back along the Cousenon River on the GR34. We also went to Rennes for the day on the train. The hotel is well located for travel around these parts on foot and public transport . We also arrived by car from Ireland and there is ample parking in public car parks up a side street to the rear and across the street at the front. We thoroughly enjoyed our five night stay at Hotel Best Western Montgomery and it is highly recommended.

Review 10:For us temperature of 20*C is definitely too cold. In the bathroom it was almosf freezing. There is no parking place, though in the low season we had no problem with finding a place arround the hotel.

Review 11:Quite nice hotel in the center of Pontorson city, very nice oldfashion design.

Review 12:We know what to except so we were pleased. Like saying I have been to the oldest wooden stair case in europe

Review 13:We drove into hotel before a two day stay on Mont St Michael. I miss understood what laundry meant. I had hoped I would be able to do a couple loads of wash since we had been out of the states over a week. There was not a washer and dry available but I was directed how to get to a laundry Mat. We did the two loads and visited a grocery store to pass the time. Had dinner down the street a short walk. We didn't want breakfast so they took it off our bill. Every where else we have wanted it but my husband was too excited to get over to the island.

Review 14:Needed a longer stay.

Review 15:Position of hotel near Mont St Michel Friendly staff Delicious breakfast Parkin garage at rear very helpful Old historic hotel with quite a history

Review 16:walls are too thin, hearing constant snoring from next rooms, and poor wifi, abit deceitful to say wifi, as it was not really available, if sevral people trying to access.

Review 17:Give credit to the night manager who gave us another larger room, and did not have to pay more which was in isolation on top floor. This is exceptional customer service, when snoring guests were too loud to sleep

Review 18:mantlepiece shelf above head of bed which resulted in several sharp bumps on the head when leaning back

Review 19:kettle in room tea pot in breakfast room with English Breakfast Tea

Review 20:We couldn't fault it.

Review 21:A lovely hotel in a very old building. A good base to sightsee around the area, and being in a village a good place to find bakery, coffee shop supermarket etc. if needed. The staff were excellent, friendly, smart and efficient. Our room was clean, quiet, lovely large bed with pristine white bedding, plenty of towels etc. Appreciated the tea/coffee making facilites, travelling around France over the previous days, not had one in our room before. Being able to return to a lovely sitting area and enjoy a glass of wine after a busy day sightseeing.

Review 22:It had all the amenities we needed, and the staff was courteous and helpful. I was hesitant to select a Best Western, because I wanted a place with a little more intimacy and charm but all the B&Bs were booked. However, we truly enjoyed our stay here. It was NOT a cookie-cutter Best Western, and is actually a historic building.

Review 23:Toilet facility cramped and best for people of short stature (which my husband and I are not).

Review 24:Good central location, amazing character, friendly and helpful staff. Also, after travelling through quite a few places in France, it was wonderful to have a direct and reliable connection with wifi.

Review 25:Whirlpool bath wasnt worth the extra Money! Poor Shower (but lucky to have one in France)

Review 26:Very helpful staff Fantastic Buffet Breakfast Excellent Room with Tea and Coffee making facilities (which is a rarity in France) Good location to stay when visiting Mont st Michel Good secure garage parking

Review 27:No air conditioning. Ugh! Really needed it at the end of July. Wouldn't mind so much, but the windows had no screens, mosquitos and spiders...oh my!

Review 28:Loved the beautiful old building. Very charming and quaint. Clean and courteous staff.

Review 29:Room was quiet and clean--very comfortable. After sightseeing we returned to the hotel sitting area and relaxed with a beverage, just like in our home living room. The hotel was so comfortable.

Review 30:I arrived early having taken the Motorbike from Roscoff to the Hotel. It was a wet morning and they made me feel welcome - the room was ready so they ensured that I could check in immediately, as well as ensured that Breakfast ran a little late so that I could have breakfast. Nice hotel, staff and area. 10k walk to Mont St Michele

Review 31:the mixture of old and new;historic but with excellent facilities and lovely outside terrace garden but in the centre of town .great breakfast in fabulous surroundings

Review 32:2 star quality. Even with elevator too many stairs.

Review 33:Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 34:Just basic no frills, poor breakfast

Review 35:Friendly greeting from reception on arrival

Review 36:Great room with painted beems.

Review 37:Location

Review 38:Old run down facility needs a brush up this is beyond atmosphere

Review 39:Parking and friendly Staff very helpful

Review 40:Lovey olde world hotel that could have been in England, down to the suit of armour in the hall. Just five minute drive from mont st michel.

Review 41:Wi-Fi was very very bad. Complimentary breakfast would be appreciated. The buffet was expensive.

Review 42:Cleanliness. Very nice staff.

Review 43:BAthroom cramped

Review 44:Staff very helpful Quirky touches such as wallpaper

Review 45:The hotel is situated in a house with a character and history and one cab feel it. Very helpful staff.

Review 46:Wifi only worked in the reception

Review 47:Location and friendly staff

Review 48:Clean and easy parking. Close- if you have a car to Mont-St-Michel.

Review 54:Staff pleasant and helpful

Review 55:Cute hotel, nice accommodations, good proximity to Mont St Michel. Good value, we appreciated the friendly helpful staff.

Review 56:Very helpful staff, nice building, good location

Review 57:Nothing

Review 58:The breakfast, the public rooms, the helpfulness of the staff

Review 59:Too old fashioned - many stairs; small elevator

Review 60:Front desk clerk was excellent on check-in showing us 3 rooms until we indicated we liked one of them

Review 61:No dinner option, however nice restaurants nearby (walking distance)

Review 62:Nice three person room in historic setting. Breakfast buffet excellent.

Review 63:Lack of restaurant. Could hear people in neighbouring room.

Review 64:Staff were welcoming and helpful. Room + Bathroom very clean. Interesting history.

Review 65:No complaints, we had a great experience

Review 66:When we arrived, we were notified that there had been a mix up and we would be getting a better room than we had reserved for the original price! Talk about a great welcome!! The staff was amazing! I inadvertently left my journal and they made sure that I got it back when we came to pick up our bags, so thoughtful! I would have been devastated to if I had lost it.

Review 67:beds not very comfortable due to open doors: smell from the kitchen almost everywhere in the house

Review 68:Nice and romantic old house;quiet room, friendly staff at the reception, busy staff in the restaurant

Review 69:All good.

Review 70:Rooms had been redecorated tastefully since our last stay 15 years ago. Breakfast room was amazing - I I felt like a queen in my parlour! Excellent buffet including eggs to boil to your liking. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Review 71:Hotel has an ideal location for radial trips by car around Mont Saint Mishel area (MSM 5 min by car, Cancale, St- Malo, Dinan, Combur etc) The bilding is slightely oldish but inside the rooms there was clean and comfortable, wifi was good. There is a huge public (free of charge) parking, a few restorans around.

Review 72:It was really very nice-close to Le Mont-Saint Michel, people are great-very helpful in every way, breakfast is wonderful plus the old charm of the building - what else can you ask for? And free parking!!!!!!!

Review 73:Hotel didn't publish 3 people room in the BestWestern Website.Points seems to be not assigned.

Review 74:Location, Room with garden view at the first floor

Review 75:Beddy bugs in our bed, pls info the hotel in order to avoid this unpleasent surprise for the sake of coming guests

Review 76:The hotel itself was nicely old fashioned, the personnel was very helpful

Review 77:The toilet which was separate from the bathroom was very cramped indeed, would have been impossible for anyone over 5ft 11ins to get ina nd use, my husband had great difficulty and only manged by keeping the door open!!

Review 78:Nice room, excellent breakfast and helpful friendly staff

Review 79:I didn't like the mothball smell in the room that we had. Makes mewonder why one would have to have treated a room with mothballs. Hummm!!I'll have to research that. I hope that it doesn't havesomething to do with bedbugs. :(

Review 80:I liked that it was located in the village of Pontorson and very nearMont Saint Michel. Hotel Montgomery is an old hotel but has an agreeablequaint interior. We enjoyed walking the streets of Pontorson. There aremany restaurant choices nearby. There was parking on the street in frontof the Hotel Montgomery. There was a nice bakery for those pastries thatwe love. We used the city bus transportation which runs often to go toMont Saint Michel.

Review 81:Very quiet in August, we were the only people in the bar!!

Review 82:OK for a one night stay on route back to Cherbourg and close to Mont St Michel for a visit to the Abbey.

Review 83:When we arrived we were told there were no cots available and that we would need to get an extra room for our children. When my husband spoke in french to the woman at the desk the cot magically appeared. The room was small and dark. No breakfast was included although the price was relatively high. Pontorson is a pretty deserted town.

Review 84:They provided a fan as the weather was unseasonably hot. The beds were comfortable and the room (though small) was clean.

Review 85:Check in was not available before 2pm. We arrived at 1:30 and were told to come back in half an hour.

Review 86:Courtyard was lovely. Furnishings throughout were quaint and charming. Staff was polite and nice.

Review 87:1) No 24-hour reception, which I think should be a fairly basic service expected for a hotel (in contrast with a motel or serviced apartment) 2) Small room size (with an extremely small bathroom) 3) Unfriendly staff Overall, I will not recommend this hotel for others.

Review 88:1) Relatively cheap for the area

Review 89:The staff member at the reception desk on the evening of our arrival was not very helpful.

Review 90:The location was excellent and the reception desk staff member on the morning of our departure was very helpful and friendly! Breakfast was also very good.

Review 91:The decor of the individual room was dark and the room was small.

Review 92:We liked the history and the common areas of the hotel, including the lovely breakfast area.

Review 93:Excellent hotel! Great service, wonderful breakfast with variety ofcheeses, cold cuts, cereal, fruit, eggs, etc. We had a big room and abathroom with very good jacuzzi and modern shower. Nice sofa in theroom, very comfortable bed, spotless clean. Plenty of free parking -very important! The area is nice with little shops and places to eat andit is less than 6 miles away from Mont St.Michel. I would suggesttravellers with cars to visit Saint Malo - amazingly beautiful town witha lot of history and stunning sea coast views.Everything was perfect. We had no problems with the carrying the luggage, I do not even remember whether there is an elevator or not.

Review 94:The hotel is well situated to visit Mont st Michel. The hotel is clean, breakfast is good. The gentleman who does the late shift is very friendly and helpful, advising on suitable places to eat. Is recommendations were excellent. The village is very small.

Review 95:The house itself is amazing. The holel is situated in a building that was built in the 16th century and once belonged to Montgomery family. The stuff was very helpful.

Review 96:Enjoyed staying in the Hotel with the historical background. The breakfast was enjoyable. It was close to Mont-Saint-Michel and we found two good eating places that we could walk to.

Review 97:Struggle with getting luggage to room.

Review 98:The location of this hotel is excellent & there were several restaurants within walking distance that were very good. Breakfast simple buffet, but sufficient with lovely dining room. Room size fair, clean & had tub/shower.

Review 99:Best Western quality. Situated in the main street of Pontorson, with many shops and restaurants in walking disance. English-speaking and very kind reception.

Review 100:Expensive & limited selection for breakfast. Go to the boulangerie instead. Plastic cups in the room are very fragile. Tea bags supplied in room but no coffee.

Review 101:Small & quiet location but close to Mont St Michel.

Review 102:For a 3 star hotel, I was very surprised by the poor quality of theroom. Carpet was old. The bathroom sink/ cabinet was almost comingoff the wall. The overall condition of the room was run down and farfrom impressive. I would have had no problem if the room was going for50 euros. But for 89 euros that was unacceptable. Won't come back.

Review 103:The building from the 17th century is beautiful. Lots of culturalheritage to enjoy inside with the furniture, books, decoration etc...

Review 104:A very comfortable, charming and well located alternative to Mont Sn Michel. It seems much more real world. The staff were very helpful and resolved a booking issue (my fault) in our favour. Very good breakfast. Would stay there again.

Review 105:Hotel is old and feels haunted, thin bed and pillow that gives you a back and neck ache, no heating, wifi doesn't work

Review 106:Close to mont saint without paying saint michel prices, friendly staff (breakfast lady, old man at reception), free parking, nice breakfast

Review 107:There didn't seem to be a lot of dinner options nearby, but it's a small town.

Review 108:Part of this lovely hotel was actually the home of the royal Montgomery family. There's a wonderful room to eat breakfast in, and lots of old woodworking. Each of our three rooms were differently decorated. It's just about ten minutes away from Mont St Michel.

Review 109:Not a great choice of restaurants in Pontorson

Review 110:Style of the hotel (with something of a haunted manor) Advice from the reception (recommended visits) Breakfast Comfortable lounge Great romantic garden

Review 111:Charming building. We choose it because of the location to Mount St. Michel. Had a room overlooking courtyard. Had a good nights rest after climbing the mont. Would stay again.

Review 112:The hotel was located on the main street in Pontorson, but was also relatively quiet. This may have been because we visited at an off-peak time, but nevertheless, it was a historic building, with convenient parking nearby. We ate at a restaurant recommended by the front desk. It was a nice casual restaurant, just off the beaten path, and we enjoyed it.

Review 113:The old hotel is charming, and the location, near but not too near MontSaint-Michel, was ideal for us. Pontorson is a very nice little town, the kind we like to visit in France. The people of the town are verynice and very helpful to visitors.

Review 114:this was a hotel with history and interesting architecture. the staff were friendly and helpful and the location ideal for visiting Mont St Michel and surrounding countryside

Review 115:Internet photos not like the room

Review 116:Internet photos were not as the rioom was this needs to be addressed as our superior room was not a superior standard.

Review 117:The hotel owner/receptionist was very friendly and helpful. He gave us lots of handy tips, from where to eat,not what to do at Le Mont St Michel, to which was the more scenic way to drive to our next destination. The decor and ambience of the hotel - room and public areas was lovely and characteristic. The breakfast was good.
