Reviews for Hôtel Des Arts

Review 1:The owner is very nice and helpful. Everything was really ok. Next to the hotel are steps to climb up to the old town. The rooms are nice furnished.

Review 2:No bad experiences. Decoration a little tired and outdated, but still a charming hotel.

Review 3:Best family room that we have ever had...one room divided into two seperate rooms with seperate shower room an toilet, more like an appartement. Very welcoming reception. Parking available. Quirky, not your average plastic room!

Review 4:The bathroom was very poor condition - toilet was loose and wobbly , and bubbled up through the sink when flushed , leaving a very bad smell .

Review 5:Loved the balcony - and breakfast was a relaxed comfortable experience .

Review 6:Tiny room with a very small bathroom.

Review 7:The balcony with a view up to Laon. Free car parking.Very close to the Poma 2000 automatic cable car system providing easy access to the wonderfully preserved city of Laon. It is well worth a stop because the city of Laon is fantastic.

Review 8:Shower and stairs ...

Review 9:The owner will try his best to make you feel welcome . This hotel need some love and attention .. but it was ok for 1 night shame it's next door to two busy shops a kebab shop and a cafe ..

Review 10:The building was rough around the edges, the bathrooms require updsting, the carpets were old and dusty, the room generally was basic and the artistic decorations dod not suffice to brighten things up..

Review 11:The owner was friendly, the breakfast room was airy and bright, central location, good breakfast, my 7 year old ate free.

Review 12:Lovely, wonderful staff in a place full of quirky charm. Recommmended and booked for us a great restaurant, "La Retro" too. Location was perfect, next to the station at the foot of the steps to the old town and cathedral. They had a bike lockup garage too.

Review 13:Breakfast was rather basic for the price (7€ each). Could only catch WiFi in certain spots.

Review 14:Very friendly and helpful staff. Family room was perfect as it is actually a 2-room suite with decent size rooms and 2 balconies. Simple but tasteful decoration throughout the hotel. Great location next to station and 10 min walk up to old town.

Review 15:There was no shower holder which is a pain, but not a major problem.

Review 16:We travelled by motorcycle and they let us put it in the garage. Which was great with having all camping stuff with us. The rooms were ok, not dirty just a little tired.breakfast was good. And the staff were pleasant. Don't let the train station put you off, it was very quiet at night. If your liking for a good/cheap stop over, then it's worth the money.

Review 17:I thought the wardrobe area should have been out of the bathroom i.e. to avoid clothes getting damp after showering.

Review 18:The Manager was very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was fine and fresh. The bed was fine and we had extra pillows.

Review 19:Toilet was not fixed to the floor well, Shower was rubbish Pub next door rude and unhelpful

Review 20:Good service, Parking secure, Pub over by taxi stop great and helpful.

Review 21:Central location. Laon itself is beautiful! Beautifully furnished seaside theme room Someone has gone to a lot of trouble to decorate the hotel -throughout - with delightful artistic /crafty touches.

Review 22:hotel locked on arrival 4.30 pm nobody answered the entry phone had to wait 15mins for owner to return. we were not shown to our room or told which floor it was on. could not have a shower as the bath was to high to step into, I could go on

Review 23:nothing

Review 24:Parking might be an issue during the day on week days; fine at evenings and week ends.

Review 25:Good location by station, very friendly staff. Good sized family room. Hotel had loads of character - if you like identikit chains this won't be for you, though. Excellent value. Great stopover en route to Germany from Channel ports. Plenty of restaurants nearby - we found a very nice brasserie about 300m away.

Review 26:The shower in our room was part of a high-sided mini-bath which was difficult to step into. Not all rooms have this, so anyone with limited mobility should check they don't get a room with this type of shower.

Review 27:Simple, plenty of character, good value, fine breakfast, easy parking and no fuss.

Review 28:The proprieter did not speak any english, which by itself isnt a big deal, but, for some reason he could not accept credit card payments. If you can book this hotel using Booking.com it should be possible to pay with a chip & signature credit card. The Wii-Fii was not working and was very poor. The beds had no separate pillows and instead used pre-sewed in pillows of poor quality.

Review 29:Great Location, easy to find.

Review 30:There was no lift to the upper floors so it was difficult to take heavy cases to our rooms. The bathrooms were too small; when sitting on the toilet one's head was in the shower cubicle! the shower curtain did not keep the water within it, so it flooded the floor.

Review 31:We liked the location, it was very convenient. The proprietor was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good.

Review 32:Made to feel welcome straight away , very very good value, good car parking , lovely clean room, excellent breakfast with first class croissants very rare in france these days many now are thawed out heated up types ! plus hotel well situated for sightseeing, will not hesitate to stay again , thankyou

Review 33:Unfortunatelly there were no English speaking staff when I arrived, but I could stay a night without any problems. Especially the room was comfortable. In my double room, shower was a good water pressure. Nearby SNCF station.

Review 34:Next to railway station, Noisy locals on mopeds at 0100. Breakfast was too late for travellers. Room was very run down in need of face lift and wifi was very slow.

Review 35:Not a lot. Basic hotel next to railway station.

Review 36:Toilet/bathroom very small, difficult to use toilet due to lack of space. Shower head was faulty when we arrived, had to find a way to fix it so we could have a shower first thing in morning. Breakfasts OK, but not enough for me and a bit small on choice, but was cheap. Couldn't pay by credit card as the machine wouldn't work properly with a card I was using at other hotels, bank and fuel stations. this upset our budgeting, also he makes a charge for using a card which is not clear on booking as far as I could see

Review 37:Owner very helpful and friendly, when we had a problem with the shower he went out, got a new shower curtain and had it all fixed by the time we got back that evening. Staff in associated bar/restaraunt next door friendly and helpful. Food was cheap and good. Reasonable breakfast for price but see engative comment to. Overall for the price very good, if you want a better standard then a more expensive hotel would be required

Review 38:The ensuite bathroom was clean but felt cramped and a little worn out.

Review 39:The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. And we had a great evening out in Laon, which has a beautiful centre ville around the cathedral.

Review 40:No air conditioning at all - very hot night, so very little sleep with only alternative to have window open onto very busy street by station. Weird décor in rooms.

Review 41:Welcome at reception. Reasonable breakfast.

Review 42:We were surprised to be told that we had to pay by cash and not card. The parking was only free in the evenings and weekends, otherwise you had to pay. The enamel at the bottom of the bath was rusting through and the room had a damp feel to it. Whilst our stay was not a disaster, we would not return.

Review 43:On the surface, the hotel was OK. The breakfast was fine and the hotel was located within a reasonable distance from the Old Town.

Review 44:Bathroom showed considerable wear and tear but was otherwise clean

Review 45:Very French Manager gave excellent reference for restaurant nearby Very convenient for Poma tram to ancient centre at top of 100m hill Excellent road and rail access Balcony Off street parking

Review 46:Bolster-type pillow on bed.

Review 47:Good location next to railway station, free parking outside at weekends and evenings. Pleasant staff on reception. Wifi worked OK.

Review 48:Internet was slow; bathroom was tiny; no elevator; very small parkinglot (it was fine for our use as there weren't a lot a cars thereduring our visit), but it would have been impossible if there were asmany as just 5 cars. Also, I wish the husband-owner had offered to helpmy mother and I bring our luggage up the 3 flights of stairs when wearrived. That would have been a nice touch.

Review 49:Very nice owners; lovely breakfast every morning; great location;awesome Kabob restaurant next door (don't miss an opportunity to eatthere. The food is fantastic and the owner very entertaining and speaksEnglish); best water pressure and hot water for your shower.

Review 50:Nothing

Review 51:We have stayed here in the past. The owners are very friendly and most welcoming. Clean and comfortable.Very central and near the station. The pictures are paintings are great, bought a couple.A visit to the cathedral a must.

Review 52:the whole hotel is filthy and run-down the bathroom was a disaster: toilet did not run, no water presure, the shower cabine was super small with a crack in the floor with a disgusting smell. Really bad.

Review 53:Hotel was very old and dated.

Review 54:Trip on mono rail

Review 55:Good position with parking owner very helpful

Review 56:Shower attachment didn't have a wall mount. No decaffeinated coffee available for breakfast.

Review 57:Pleasant location, convenient for visiting old town.

Review 58:Overpriced restaurant. Very basic food.

Review 59:Wifi a bit slow

Review 60:Good position in town Friendly staff For a 2star good Parking

Review 61:decoretion in the hotel

Review 62:we were just here as a stopover, but Loan is fairly interesting and has a choice of restaurants etc. Owner was helpful

Review 63:Dirty toilet. Otherwise very clean.

Review 64:Friendly manager, two adjoining rooms for a family which was good, free parking

Review 65:Friendly staff.

Review 66:Square outside a bit noisy but heh it's a town centre hotel!!

Review 67:Excellent value for money, friendly staff, did exactly what it said..

Review 68:Wonderful host!

Review 69:Location, friendly host, customer service.

Review 70:Lovely wekcome by staff. Very clean with character. Great breakfast.

Review 71:En suite facilities a bit dated; no air con. Narrow single beds.

Review 72:Location, friendliness of owner, location in the centre of town, breakfast.

Review 73:four floors and no lift!

Review 74:nice decoration, and very clean

Review 75:Thin walls!

Review 76:Simple basic & friendly

Review 77:Helpful friendly proprietor Comfortable rooms Good location

Review 78:Location Staff (but you need to pay in cash) Family room (divided into two rooms with shared facilities)

Review 79:Small room but it was OK for a basic hotel

Review 80:Location, Price

Review 81:Very helpful Parking on site and dog allowed Breakfast good value

Review 82:Friendliness of staff Quick service Easy to find by the rail station

Review 83:Inadequate bathroom facilities. Shower had to be hand held.

Review 84:Bed clean and comfortable.

Review 85:Typical, quirky French hotel. Really close to railway station, easy to find and well signposted. Good breakfast with friendly and helpful staff.

Review 86:Peeling paint , bare electrical wires in bedroom light fitting

Review 87:Parking good , staff very friendly , excellent restaurant on the corner ,

Review 88:Very old bathroom. Shower doors hanging loose and would not close.

Review 89:Good location

Review 90:Much of the plumbing could do with being replaced. Showeres etc had seen better days

Review 91:Friendly, helpful staff. We were given 2 linked rooms rather than a triple which was a bonus. Breakfast was fine.

Review 92:local roadworks made us drive around to find it, but well worthwhile.

Review 93:Friendly helpful staff. Centrally located. Owners recommendation for the evening meal restaurant was excellent

Review 94:The hotel needs updating and the bathrooms are pretty bad. This is what i would class as a budget hotel. I doubt that I would stay here again.

Review 95:The location was OK, by the station with free paring on the road. Close to the centre of Laon - a short drive to the top of the mountain. The breakfast was decent and the breakfast room pleasant. The owner was friendly.

Review 96:A great welcome and everything was exactly as promised. The Hotel is particularly well sign posted from the Autoroute, which on a night with heavy rain falling was very helpful.

Review 97:En-suite very small, in desperate need of updating, wall tiles in shower not clean - didn't fancy using shower. Free car park but on very steep slope with limited spaces. We were asked to pay cash as credit card machine broken!

Review 98:Bedroom clean, beds comfortable

Review 99:The bath was old and needed re-surfacing.

Review 100:The receptionist was friendly and gave us advice about dining out. We were allocated adjacent rooms, with easy access which was ideal for our family needs.

Review 101:We were on the third floor and would have liked a lift, but the proprietor helped with the luggage.

Review 102:We found the hotel to be basic but quaint and very clean, with friendly and helpful service. Breakfast was typically french and sufficient.

Review 103:Room reminded us of budget Paris. Very small, awful shower that was so cramped I couldn't get into it! Laon looks as though it has been really badly hit by the recession with masses of empty shops etc., including one of the hotels in the old city. This hotel is in the new town by the railway station. No character whatsoever but handy for the funicular up to the historic centre.

Review 104:Not much, other than the very friendly staff. Breakfast was adequate.

Review 105:the shower had to be held by hand (i prefer hands free showering) and there was a shower curtain not a cubicle.quite a noisy location as near the station and next door to a kebab shop whose owner liked to talk on his mobile vey loudly until the early hours

Review 106:it was centrally placed and ideal if travelling by rail.the hotel is clean and the owners are friendly.opposite the funicular so you do not have to do the steep climb up to the old town

Review 107:rooms were very tired, pillows were lumpy, had to pay by cash as card machine not working, rooms were very warm with no air con, wifi didn't work

Review 108:pleasant welcome, quiet location, near station

Review 109:Would not accept credit or debit card for payment. Cash only. Loo very close to bed - smelly.

Review 110:Friendly proprietor. Convenience for taking the poma up to the town.

Review 111:I was obliged to pay cash, instead of using my credit card as I use to do in all booking.com hotels. More water pressure in the shower would be a a good improvement. [nothing to do with the hotel]: the "funiculaire" to take us from the bottom of the hill to the historical centre of town should also run on Sundays, albeit at a different schedule than that of weekdays because climbing more than 200 stair steps is a bit too much of a senior couple. Something for the Mairie to think about because there are turists that visit Laon on Sundays.

Review 112:The original decoration of the room and that it is located near the railway station.

Review 113:The room I stayed in needed some decoration( doors need repainting). In the bathroom there was a shower over bath. Bath was very old, worn and high and needs replacing. The shower pressure was poor. Everything did work though.

Review 114:The hotel is basic but comfortable. Some improvements have been made since I stayed here about six years ago. The (new?) owner was very friendly and helpful and has garage parking for motorcycles which is a benefit ( I am a motorcyclist). The hotel does have charm which is why I chose it again.

Review 115:The room was good but the shower facility was very poor and needed updating

Review 116:How near it was ti the Pomo and access to the Medeavil City. The staff were very helpful and friendly

Review 117:Warm and friendly, comfortable, and affordable. Located right alongside the train station and the funicular stop that will take you to the top of the hill.

Review 118:Small friendly hotel. Original attractive art work and very good breakfast. Helpful patron.

Review 119:Near railways station and easy to find when arriving late at night by train.

Review 120:NO HOT WATER POOR QUALITY BATHROOM

Review 121:ROOM COMFORTABLE AND STYLISH ALL VERY CLEAN ENJOYED BALCONY BREAKFAST GOOD

Review 122:lack of good restaurants nearby

Review 123:Breakfast quite good, easy to find but location out of town centre.

Review 124:Location by the railway station and funicular

Review 125:Lovely breakfast room and a good breakfast. Very convenient location. Friendly owners who spoke English.

Review 126:bathroom in one room was a little tired

Review 127:helpful staff, good breakfast
