Reviews for Best Western Hôtel d'Europe et d'Angleterre
Review 1:Why no English language channels on the television?
Review 2:It's a pleasant hotel in a good location - we've been before, and we'll happily go again. Nice to get tea and coffee in the room in a hotel in France!
Review 3:I asked for 2 single beds in the room via booking .com and the personel didn't prepare 2 beds, they told us that if we wanted to beds- we could seperate it by ourselves. We had to hire one extra room.
Review 4:The location was great. ELISA, was charming and advised us on restaurants open on New Year's Day she then booked one for us; which turned out to be excellent. Breakfast was very good.
Review 5:Can't think of anything ...
Review 6:Secure parking for a big car Easy access to choice of restaurants Easy access off motor way Good room Nice breakfast
Review 7:Defective doorbell to gain access at main entrance . Need to ring the bell even during daytime .ghastly furniture in lounge area.Hotel needs refurbishing in public areas.
Review 8:Reception ,parking , large room comfortable bed .Both day and night receptionists were helpful and charming . We find this to be the same at other Best Western Hotels . It certainly helps! Wish we had tried the breakfast ,it looked excellent .
Review 9:Very friendly staff. Good breakfast. The building is old, but very well refurbished, and the rooms are well-furnished, clean, quiet and comfortable. Their car park is pretty good, too.
Review 10:We returned here after a good experience last year. This time our room seemed to be half the size - really a single. Bed was old and uncomfortable (reported). Staff change seemed to make breakfast very disappointing - really dreadful coffee.
Review 11:Lovely Reception staff Pretty Reception area Excellent parking arrangements
Review 12:Nothing.
Review 13:This is a lovely hotel in a renovated old building. It has a lot of style and character, both classical with quirky elements, I loved it. My room was huge and very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I only stayed one night.
Review 14:The rooms should have mini-bars.
Review 15:Comfortable, functional rooms. Good double windows to block out street noise on the river side. Good breakfast. Helpful staff. Pleasant lobby and bar. Reliable wireless Internet in the guest rooms.
Review 16:Calm and unique building with very comfortable and well-equipped rooms. We especially like the tea/coffee tray and bottle of water. It is not usual in France but is so good after a long journey. Excellent breakfast and very friendly staff.
Review 17:Nothing negative to say
Review 18:The staff were very helpful indeed nothing was too much trouble and they went out of their way to book a restaurant on a wet Saturday night without a reservation, which Was so helpful and their recommendation turned out to be just perfect!
Review 19:Absolutely nothing about the hotel, only their choice of taxi firm !
Review 20:Lovely,helpful staff, particularly on reception. Lovely clean, comfortable rooms and en suits. The junior suits are exceptional! Superb breakfasts with the biggest choices of hot and cold food I have ever seen.
Review 21:Disallowed Best Western Rewards without prior notice as booking was made thru Booking.com Long walk to centre of town.
Review 22:Hotel garage for parking car Helpful staff Good shower
Review 23:Stylishly restored old mansion Lovely clean & nicely decorated room and bathroom.Comfortable bed.Helpful reception staff -great restaurant recommendation.Easy access from autoroute. Great breakfast with lots of choice.
Review 24:No dislikes.
Review 25:Good location for a stopover on the way to the South of France. Located on the banks of the Soane and in easy walking distance of the old town and restaurants. Staff couldn't be more helpful with all our questions. Excellent quiet room with good facilities.
Review 26:A fridge/minibar in the room would have been nice.
Review 27:Wonderful front desk staff, extremely helpful, very charming. Good bathroom with monsoon shower and thick fluffy towels. Breakfast good by French standards.
Review 28:Quite a walk from the centre of town if eating out and other than the excellent Chinese no other good French restaurants close by.
Review 29:Room comfortable and very adequate for a one night stopover. Good breakfast - typically continental but fresh. Although no restaurant there is an excellent Viet-Chinese around the corner - don't be put off by the appearance/back street location - the food is tremendous.
Review 30:The price. It would be difficult to truly describe this as value for money.
Review 31:We do not normally stay in chain establishments, but were impressed by this hotel. The staff were really helpful, the rooms sufficiently large and comfortable, with air con. We liked the secure parking, which we thought a little expensive considering the fact that we were on motorbikes. Saying that, we valued greatly the security. The breakfast was excellent and very tasty, for which we had to pay extra, but got value for money. I particularly liked the range of breads, which went beyond baguettes and croissants. Macon is a really interesting place to visit: it has something for everyone. I particularly enjoyed the guided walk that we got from the tourist information. We really enjoyed the Musee d'Ursulines, which had some excellent pieces of modern art. The restaurants along the river were lovely and such great value for money: quality, service and excellence as the french seem to know how to do so well. The hotel was beautifully placed to enjoy all of this.
Review 32:Nothing to dislike
Review 33:The hotel was good both in terms of the location in the centre of Macon providing peaceful surroundings and good facilities. The receptionist was particularly helpful and knowledgeable.
Review 34:Driven from Amsterdam - arrived exhausted - wonderful welcome - perfect location - very good Vietnamese round corner for supper and cafe for morning - divinely comfortable bed and consequently good night's sleep. Would like to go back.
Review 35:Booked a Superior Double Room, not sure the room we got fit that description. Downside( beyond the control of the hotel) left the windows opened during the night and got savaged by mosquitos. Ten to fifteen of them had a party in our room!!
Review 36:Friendly efficient staff
Review 37:Small room painted the colour of a rain cloud (dark grey). They had no ice ? We are talking 3 star hotel and no ice ? We were then charged a 5E corkage for ice the second night. I worked for Four Seasons hotels for 7 years and have never heard of being charged a corkage fee for opening a bottle of my own wine in the room. Would never go back based on this. But then I would never go back to Macon.
Review 38:Staff was friendly and helpful with recommending restaurants. Felt bad as there only seemed to be one person on all the time.
Review 39:price is not irrelevant vs other alternatives in the area (but acceptable considering the good comfort of this hotel)
Review 40:The facility, the décor, the comfort of big bed and toilet, the kindness of the hotel staff
Review 41:Courteous and efficient very happy and all round pleasure to talk with. Could do no more for us and made our short stay very comfortable and pleasant we look forward to returning.
Review 42:Nothing we didn't like but felt that the bathroom toiletries were lacking, no shower cap, no hair products, minor things but important when one is travelling
Review 43:The staff were very welcoming and helpful, nothing was too much trouble
Review 44:There was a peculiar smell on entry and also in our room.it was faint but a bit like back up in a sewer. My husband could not smell it and says i have a sensitive nose.
Review 45:Staff friendly and helpful + location near to the city.
Review 46:there was nothing to dislike,
Review 47:the room was beautiful with everything you need, very clean and comfortable. there are some lovely touches in the hotel. the breakfast was really good, very fresh and a amazing variety
Review 48:The area was not particularly nice even though the river is directly opposite. It is a 10 minute walk to the edge of town.
Review 49:It was a heatwave and the air conditioning was super efficient. We had a spacious superior room that faced onto an interior courtyard so was very quiet. Excellent secure parking. Fast wifi. It is a slightly worn hotel but still very comfortable.
Review 50:Very well appointed room with tea making facilities, an unusual treat in France! The staff were very friendly and helpful and the location excellent on the river bank.
Review 51:Room was very comfortable and compact bathroom just perfect. There was plenty of space in the room for cases. There was a common outside area to enjoy the sounds of the night. Staff were great and English was no problem. Good advice for restaurants etc.
Review 52:Nothing to dislike!
Review 53:Spacious bedroom, good bathroom, helpful and friendly staff. Nearby restaurants along the river (especially on the opposite banks). Highly recommended!
Review 54:The breakfast was ok but expensive we thought. It advertised a breakfast for 7euros in the lift but we were charged 13.40. But don't let this put you off. Still stay here.
Review 55:The room was an executive and was very spacious. This was only a three star but everything was of excellent quality. The room was well decorated and looked clean and fresh. The staff were very friendly and helped with all our needs. Tea and coffee in the room and a hairdryer. The location was excellent overlooking the river and a 5 mo walk to the town.
Review 56:Nothing, really good.
Review 57:It was a wonderful hotel, great staff and the breakfast buffet was the best we had on our trip up and down France, really fresh, loads of it and a great price. Next time we are in town, we will be booking again.
Review 58:This hotel is spot on in every aspect! Nothing bad to report. It is for sure the best hotel in macon!
Review 59:Friendly staff who spoke English Great sized room Comfortable modern Coffee tea making facilities Hotel decor fab and breakfast wonderful! 7 min walk to restaurants
Review 60:First room we were given smelt terrible. Staff were happy to move us to a different room Breakfast was not included and at€13.90 each was very expensive
Review 61:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was large and comfortable with a river view.
Review 62:The AC was terrible I had to leave the windows open which meant that in the morning the kids on the terrace woke me.
Review 63:The hotel is funkily decorated with a mixture of traditional and art deco style. It was a pleasant mix.i liked the tea and coffee In the room and the place well appointed
Review 64:Very small bathrooms even for a superior room. Bar is not well designed and not cosy to sit in. The properties around the hotel delipated. Not real value for money.
Review 65:Very friendly staff.
Review 66:Water was only lukewarm and orange tables in breakfast room were the only bad thing about an excellent breakfast.
Review 67:Very nice converted older building in Macon with big rooms, comfy beds, nice public areas and a private car park (make sure you book it in advance)
Review 68:Breakfast was substantial, but slightly pricey.
Review 69:The hotel is stylish and very fashionably decorated and furnished. The rooms show equal style and comfort. Located on the esplanade, albeit with a road to cross, it offers and great location for exploring both the shops and restaurants of Macon.
Review 70:Not untypically English speaking wasn't strong but I'm sure you can cope.
Review 71:Very comfortable bed and very secure parking with the entrance to the car park also at the front. Lovely view across the river at breakfast. Very comfortable stay and though we're only stayed one night we were made very welcome. We would return here. Very beautiful (half finished) building. Lots of character.
Review 72:A shame they got rid of the old photographs of the hotel and river in the 1930s which were on display before the refurbishment
Review 73:excellent location, secure convenient parking
Review 74:Not impressed with restaurant recommendation , La Lamartine : food ok but over- pushy managers and rough handling of my credit card damaged the chip leading to great inconvenience
Review 75:Interesting and pretty Reception with bar to taste local wines. Very comfortable bed and pillows!! Spacious and secure parking. Excellent breakfast.
Review 76:Minor point- no toileteries in bathroom ( soap in wall mounted dispensers), but were available on request at reception.
Review 77:Very helpful staff. Gluten free bread available for my coeliac wife. Choice of restaurants located 5-10 mins walk from hotel
Review 78:Not applicable.
Review 79:Staff were very extremely helpful. Hotel location very good. Facilities were excellent. Rooms were spacious for both stays. Overall a fabulous hotel and very welcoming.
Review 80:We were extremely disappointed at the attitude of the manager - on arrival were told that the double beds in the double room were too small for 2 people. We're put into a larger room (room 108) at €20 euro more. In that case why call it a double room! and don't suggest that size of room is inadequate until after viewing. Smacks of greed to tell guest the room they booked is too small! 2. parking - I asked about parking but was not told that they had secure parking until much much later - I am disabled so parking is very important. So this hotel must review its welcoming strategy to include correct manner of dealing with guest & including information on every aspect of the options eg parking. The manager should not be seen to undermine his staff when they are handling the clients properly & efficiently. Other issues - the lack of proper room service & lack of fridge which is needed if there is no room service. Room rather dark even with all the lights switched on! Hard to even write a postcard!! More thought needed on layout or position of door which opens directly in full view of the bed - the room was large enough to offer more discreet entry!!
Review 81:impressive modernised hotel - great design, very comfortable Pleasant receptionists
Review 82:We used the mobile Booking.com app to secure a room as we drove through the region and so were pleased to get a nice room with a view overlooking the river. Good size room - excellent shower facilities and quality furnishings. Double glazing kept the street noise out - it is quite a busy road between the hotel and the river. There is no bar but it is possible to get a late night drink in the lobby area at reasonable prices. Parking is available but we left our car on the street parking. Lots of history to the place! Good location for the centre of Macon
Review 83:OMG - dogs! Allowed in the rooms - everywhere - tres francais! Parking cost €10 Shower involves climbing into bath
Review 84:Good staff secure car parking Good location
Review 85:The absolutely tiny, hot room / the minute window letting in hardly any air because it was tucked into a rooftop corner. The person on reception taking three phone calls (count them) during my conversation with her about my disappointment with the room. The person on reception saying "O well it's only for one night' as if that made it better. The cursory offer of an aperitif to make up for the disappointment. The assumption that a jolly old drop of alcohol can make up for no sleep due to the claustrophobic conditions of the appointed room! The noise from the equally tiny room next door - at 4 am. I was awake anyway. This in a hotel that lays claim to 'sound-proofed rooms'! A joke! The fact that I had stayed at this hotel a few years back and recieved a vastly different experience so that Best Western is now a hotel in Macon and indeed a chain I will neither re-visit or recommend. Which is sad, as I personally book upwards of twenty hotels a year.
Review 86:The location - not much they could do to ruin that!
Review 87:There was nothing to dislike
Review 88:Excellent location on the Saone, close to the town centre. Lovely old style hotel with the most helpful and welcoming staff. I left my trousers in the bedroom and didn't realise until we were at Troyes. The staff are sending them back to me!
Review 89:THE LIFT IS A DISASTER. IT DOES NOT INDICATE WHAT FLOOR IT IS ON AND YOU WAIT AGES TO IT TO ARRIVE. LIKE OTHERS ON THE FIRST FLOOR WE GAVE UP AND USED THE STAIRS - ALSO FOR OUR LUGGAGE.
Review 90:EVERYTHING. EXCEPT THE DREADFUL LIFT. STAFF DELIGHTFUL.
Review 91:We used this hotel for an overnight stop en route from the south. A great location near the river with shops and restaurants nearby. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 92:On busy main road. Hot duvet on hot day so had to take duvet out of cover. No hair conditioner in bathroom. No evening restaurant.
Review 93:Central position good for vis tint Macon on foot. View of river. Well appointed room. Excellent staff and service. Good breakfast selection of hot and cold buffet. Make sure to book secure parking if car security is an issue as places are limited.
Review 94:Would have preferred to not have carpet in bedroom
Review 95:The staff were lovely Or car had broken down so we had to stay in Maçon suddenly They were really helpful Good location
Review 96:Excellent location on the river road opposite St Laurent. We arrived a little late and needed dinner which the hotel concierge booked for us at a restaurant over the bridge. Bed really comfortable, good breakfast and secure parking available.
Review 97:Nothing to comment about.
Review 98:Very efficient and helpful staff. Clean rooms, we'll appointed for short stay. Secure parking Good selection of restaurants and bars a short walk away.
Review 99:parking in Hotel is a problem if you havn't reserved, still out side ample parking.Book inside rooms away from the main road .
Review 100:Quiet rooms,on the inside ,very confortable,Breakfast top,no problems traveling with dogs.200 meters down the road a super Brasserie(La Cafe Francais 154 quai Lamartine) original suroundings best french food on our travels
Review 101:No restaurant. Walk over bridge and use the last one, however, if you do not speak French wait to be ignored!
Review 102:Everything apart from the lack of a restaurant. Parking is secure, rooms are really good, however, requested a river view but they were booked up. Service was excellent and the breakfast was good. Didn't walk into town it was raining.
Review 103:Nothing
Review 104:Very good multilingual staff Very good room and comfortable bed. Safe parking for car, (pay extra). Do not have to vacate room early next day.
Review 105:The owners have remodelled the hotel with exquisite taste, a beautiful combination of retro and contemporary design that suited the building perfectly. The reception was very friendly, which was much appreciated after a long drive down from Calais. The room was very comfortable. The breakfast was the best I've ever had in any hotel: a huge variety of choices and everything was so well prepared and presented. I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone and, had we not been moving on to Italy the next day I would have liked to have stayed longer.
Review 106:Absolutely nothing
Review 107:Arrived early, yet we were able to book in - room was ready. Decor of hotel is really original, feels very luxurious so a bargain at the price we paid. Go to l'autre rive across the river for dinner and you will have the perfect stay.
Review 108:Would stay there again, friendly helpful staff and fantastic rooms. We had a family room and a superior double with courtyard views. Parking worth adding on only ten euros and in locked courtyard.
Review 109:The bed was only provide with a duvet - probably about 12 tog - much too hot for the summer. A restaurant for dinner would be nice. The one recommended was not very good and quite expensive. House wine 4 euros a small glass!
Review 110:Reception very good, nice clean room with good facilities.
Review 111:Nothing to complain about. There is no restaurant or cafe but we probably wouldn't have used it - and there are tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The price reflects the quality.
Review 112:Lovely building with quality furnishings right on the river and within walking distance of good choice of restaurants. Good breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. We had a big family room which was very comfortable.
Review 113:Not a thing
Review 114:The lady at reception was so welcoming, the salon was beautifully decorated as was the room, which was big and well furnished with a large balcony. Nothing looked as though it was a chain hotel and the price was surprisingly good. Free parking right outside and good location for restaurants. Booked on the day because we had an unexpected stop in Macon; worth a detour to go again
Review 115:The Bar was kind of an afterthought in the lobby but not a problem really. Just a mini bar really.
Review 116:Good location. Secure parking. Comfy room. Nice decor. Good value
Review 117:The room size would not be enough for a long stay as a couple. Off street parking is very limited, but there were spaces on the street nearby.
Review 118:Nice location by the riverside and the staff were excellent. The rooms on the top floor were lovely, clean and spacious enough for an overnight: 2 at a push! I would stay again, but only if passing through.
Review 119:No mini-bar. I didn't like the decor and thought that the breakfast room needed cheering up. The whole place lacks soul and we had a room with windows onto a corridor so we could hear people passing. The room was very hot and there was no air-conditioning.
Review 120:The staff were nice although nobody helped us either up or down to our bedroom and my husband has Parkinsons. The breakfast was nice.
Review 121:Logging on and off to internet all the time. Air conditioning was only able to be set at 22 - not low enough for end of July and too hot in the room.
Review 122:Renovated room. Fantastic shower. Great TV. Close to restaurants. Private parking that's easy to access.
Review 123:We were bringing a lot of wine back for my son's wedding - we chose the hotel because we knew it had good, secure parking BUT when we arrived after a 7hour drive were told we couldn't park as we hadn't booked it!!!!!! NOT impressed. We had to unload the whole car load into a room in the hotel (luckily we did have help from one of the staff) and load it up again in the morning.....this should be made much clearer when booking this hotel!!
Review 124:Have stayed before, it is now Best Western and upgraded. Room lovely and modern, small but good bathroom. Breakfast perfectly good self-service.
Review 125:Very easy check in. Room was lovely and spacious and although it was a river facing room, it was so quiet and we had a wonderful nights sleep. Location was great and we would definitely go back again.
Review 126:Unable to adjust the air con even tho there was a regulator every time we adjusted or it went back to 22degs....way too hot in both our bedrooms Lack of continental breakfast outside certain hours We do not eat or need a huge b/fast
Review 127:Rooms still clean and neat after the last upgrade
Review 128:Although there was a sign saying that food was available, there didn't appear to be any service at the bar, which would have been nice after a long journey.
Review 129:Well located with private parking.
Review 130:Breakfast expensive at Euro 13.50 each. when we only have coffee and croissant. Room had no ceiling light so found it dark .
Review 131:Nice size bedroom, decor very modern and clean. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Review 132:When a hotel serves hot food for breakfast they should make sure that it is hot.it would be best to stick to continental style breakfast than serve cold food. The coffee was even cold.
Review 133:Rooms were a nice size and her comfortablr
Review 134:Excellent location on main road in city center. Many nice restaurants nearby. Private parking. Friendly staff. Good breakfast buffet. Tastefully decorated.
The Fine Print
