Reviews for Hotel De France

Review 1:Reception was like a cold shower: We encountered a delay during a long drive and the first thing the lady said when we arrived at 10.30 pm was "you are lucky I have not gone to bed yet". Room was in an unmarked, separate building across an active rail track. She left us at the bottom of the stairs saying the room is on 1st floor on the right. She did not add the lights were not working in the corridor. Issues with drains triggered smell; Long wait for hot water. Rooms need investment (e.g. beds)

Review 2:Close to where we needed to be. Mt St. Michel at 15 min drive.

Review 3:The train station is opposite and the trains are loud, if you are a heavy sleeper you will be ok.

Review 4:Close to the station and very affordable for Pontorson.

Review 5:The mattress was in poor condition, one could not rest even on it. The shower' doors did not slide to close. One has to let the water run a long time before getting warm water. The water also got stuck in the shower. One has to empty it with a plastic glass before taking a shower.

Review 6:The location was good: not far away from the Mont Saint Michel.

Review 7:Dingy room. Loud traffic noise until late, starting again at 5.00 am in the morning. Breakfast only available at another hotel (the Ariane) in a different street, across the railway lines ! Poor breakfast - especially the coffee which tasted as though it had been made the day before. Overall poor value for money.

Review 8:Mont Saint-Michel well worth a visit, especially after 7.00 pm in the summer. However there must be hundreds of other hotels within a few minutes drive, so there is no need to choose this one.

Review 9:No wifi available. Staff told me that they would work on it.

Review 10:It didn't have Wifi

Review 11:The personal was friendly and helpful. I was

Review 12:Hotel is a little tired

Review 13:Helpful staff

Review 14:No wifi

Review 15:It was very convent. Walking distinct to everything. Nice and clean. Staff always friendly and smiling. Only thing it needs is WiFi.

Review 16:THE RESTURANT RECOMMENDED

Review 17:GREAT LOCATION FOR EARLY DEPARTURE FROM PONTORSON

Review 18:Lack of hot meals during breakfast.

Review 19:It is found just next to the train station. Shuttles everyday to the Mont St michel. Ease of access.

Review 20:Nothing.

Review 21:Location and value for money.

Review 22:Noisy close to road and train

Review 23:Musty, damp smell in the room.

Review 24:It was fun to stay here. It is an old building where the rooms have been remodeled for hotel use.

Review 25:Didnt stay long enough to find out

Review 26:Simple, clean, nice town and friendly manager

Review 27:Rooms a bit tired and dark. Booked 4 rooms for 8 people but only 1 was booked, the owner needs to read a booking form properly. He had to put some of us up in a Gite as there were no spare rooms.

Review 28:Good place to store our bikes Nice garden to sit in for a beer. Good Breakfast.

Review 29:if you decide stay at Portoson,u need to take bus 3 euro per one way to Mont-saint Michel.Or else i will suggest you stay near Mont-saint Michel with free shuttle bus every 6 mins. Be aware of the bus schedule timing from Renees station to Saint Michel coz it is not frequent at all.better book bus ticket from TGV station to Reness and bek too coz u will save a lot of money.in my hotel room the noise from the road very loud and owner dun speak english.

Review 30:the price is acceptable.

Review 31:Our room was overlooking the main street and was a little noisy due to construction traffic travelling through.

Review 32:Staff were pleasant and helpful. They also made arrangements for our party to check in early.

Review 33:Room was small, old fashioned, noisy, scary, no-one present in the area we slept. Location stated it was 30mtrs from main hotel this was not the case.Breakfast no-one there to assist or inform us what to do. Ran out of milk could not find anyone to replenish it.Would not return to this hotel in the future.

Review 34:Cannot think of anything that I could recommend this hotel for.

Review 35:The room was quite small and breakfast was in a neighbouring building but the price was reasonable.

Review 36:Good value hotel and fine for a couple of nights. Reception and breakfast were in the neighbouring hotel, across the railway track. It was just a short walk to the centre.

Review 37:The train station is nearby, the good thing is that there are only a few trains, but I could hear the cars passing over the rails. Wifi would have also been nice.

Review 38:Close to the train and bus station, so Mont St Michel is very easy to reach. The staff was nice and friendly and the room was large and neat. The town is also charming and much cheaper that what you can find at Le Mont (e.g. dinner around 15 Euro vs. 30+ Euro).

Review 39:Owner wasn't the friendly - very business orientated, but nothingalarming. Room very small - no room for lots of luggage.

Review 40:Location - right by train/bus, which makes it a little noisy but soconvenient and easy to find! Very clean.

Review 41:No big deal, but there was no one at the reception, one must go to other hotel reception across street.

Review 42:close to Mont Saint-Michel, turns out to be a pretty little village to spent some relaxation time.

Review 43:There are apparently three connected hotels, Hotel de France, Hotel de France and some other word, and Hotel Ariane. I stayed in the part called Hotel Ariane. And it was fine. Comfy, clean, nice people in the hotel.

Review 44:The shower was quite small and gave almost no hot water in the morning. This was disappointing, particularly given the time of year and substantially detracted from the quality of the experience in staying at the hotel.

Review 45:The friendliness and coutesy of the manager and staff, overall comfort of the room accommodation and good breakfast.

Review 46:Hotel de France is a great place to stay! It is right across the street from the train station and bike rental. It's a level 30 minute bike ride away (about 6 km) from mt st Michel. The staff are able to answer questions in English and the restaurant upstairs is excellent. There are plenty of nearby pastry shops, a couple bars and occasional farmers market all within a 2 minute walk. No AC, like most of Europe but I would stay here again.

Review 47:The hotel is definitely not on a level with the price. In my opinion Isuggest not stay more than one night!

Review 48:Not to bad to visit by car Mount Saint Micheal.

Review 49:Reception is in a different location, in a different building/hotel. Didnot know it was two co-owned hotels before we got there. But was easyenough to figure out.

Review 50:Neat, charming rooms and building. Elements of original constructionwere everywhere, I.E. old beams. Very Helpful staff, walked us up toroom. Great location for going to Mont St. Michel

Review 51:the hotel is near a railway station but i've only seen the train passing once, so that should not be an issue.

Review 52:room was simple but clean and i'd recommend it just for short stays. good value for money

Review 53:The reception is at the hotel across the street, to your right.Directions aren't clear. No WiFi.

Review 54:I liked the location in a small town just a stone's throw from thestation. Since it is a small station, the trains and buses don't run allnight and early morning. You get a good night's sleep. It's very easy toget to Mount Michel from here, just walk across the street to thebus/train station and the bus will leave you at the entrance of thecauseway. Here there is lots to see, plan on six hours to see the abbeyand the town. There are tours available to walk the beach, which arewell worth it. This is also very close to other seaside resorts withoutthe expense.

Review 55:Uncomfortable bed. Staff person came into our room with a key, without knocking and made us feel very uncomfortable about our security there. Bulding was old and run down. Carpets were discusting

Review 56:Close to Mont St. Michel

Review 57:5 min drive to Caen Memorial. Good basic accommodation with good wifi. Our family of 5 had an apartment...2rooms, one for my husband and I and another one with 3 single beds (with 2 bathrooms).

Review 58:The only thing that I don't like the hotel is check-in counter is in different location even though it is not far away from each other. I found myself dragging the luggage back and forth to find the right place to check-in.

Review 59:I like the location of the hotel which is right by the train station where is very convenient for a solo traveller like me.

Review 60:Fortunately, we book at the cheaper Hotel de France but were upgraded to the more expensive Ariane, perhaps, due to fully booked the prior one. So we get much better than expected. The location of both hotels or very very convenient, just cross the road from Gare (train stn) Pontorson. Both or on different side of the railway. We can see the railway from the garden behind our room but it is not noisy at all. The town is quiet but I feel the calm and friendly atmosphere from the villager.

Review 61:It's a just 2 star hotel. Don't expect not so much.

Review 62:It's not so far away from Mont Saint Michel. Room was so small for myfamily, but it's not so bad for 1 day stay. We just slept there. There'sa window to the sky in the attic. My kids really enjoyed it.

Review 63:Everything good!

Review 64:Train station out of order made getting there via public transport very difficult.

Review 65:Sleepy little town with quaint rooms and cosy vibe.

Review 66:It is very far from Mont Saint-Michel.

Review 67:Room is simple and convenient.Breakfast is very nice.

Review 72:The owner was very nice, the area was quiet, breakfast was good; very clean and the beds were good.

Review 73:Traffic noise late night and early morning

Review 74:Excellent for the price

Review 75:nothing at all.

Review 76:comfortable, quick wifi, friendly staff.

Review 77:town nothing to see, no good restaurants nearby, close to the train tracks

Review 78:Manager quite nice, bedroom comfortable but very old fashioned

Review 79:Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean rooms. Very good value for money

Review 80:no internet in room, hot water took forever to arrive, tick was too hot with no blanket options

Review 81:quiet room

Review 82:Wrong address in booking.com !!!! Noisy of cars and trains.

Review 83:Location, price and hair dryer!

Review 86:Close to the sation

Review 87:location
