Reviews for The Ayrshire and Galloway

Review 1:Nothing to report or to put us off returning, this is a good basic clean hotel which my office found for us on our weather delayed return south.

Review 2:Very- very helpful staff, good internet. brief visit as stay over. Given extra time in the morning to conclude my work on internet. Perhaps parking could be a problem at a busy time as the rear yard is small. Having stayed in 'branded' or chain hotels which don't live up to listings this was a happy find and gets top marks from us

Review 3:We arrived in to a very cold room. End room with a window on both walls. Very old rickety Windows with draughts like you would not believe We woke up at 5am with thinking the Windows were coming in due to the wind and rain.the rain was indeed coming in the window. The floor , curtains and everything on the side wall were soaked. When we complained we were told to claim booking.com. disgusting lack of concern. We had paid via booking com in advance or I would have refused to pay for our second night.

Review 4:Location was great as we wanted to shop in Ayr. The food in the hotel was lovely. Mark behind the bar was excellent company

Review 5:Mirrors in bathroom steam up too easily

Review 6:Reliable and very fairly priced. If you are looking for a cheap necessity of a place to stay , with kind staff and great dining then you can't go wrong with this hotel. Only criticism is that the kettles need to be put on the floor to plug them in as the cables are not lon enough.

Review 7:Waiting to get let in by staffat night was annoying especially if they were busy.

Review 8:Nothing to comlain about at all.. Great stay. if it was a little cheaper I'd stay they're every time

Review 9:The prices in there hotel bar ,which has went up a lot since my last visit in October which I really enjoyed ,didn't socialise at all this time when asked about this increase we were given a disappointed answer

Review 10:The location was good to access other venues

Review 11:Our room was on the second floor and there are no lifts so is not suitable for disabled guests!

Review 12:The hotel is in the center of the town so handy for everything.

Review 13:Wasnt there fault but the place next door had a concert till 1 in the morning. They did give us another room but once woken couldnt get back to sleep

Review 14:Location is good

Review 15:nice food and mannerly staff the lady on reception was very helpful in accommodating my daughter son in law and children when they decided to join us.

Review 16:Bed room, walls in bedrooms were thin could hear next door TV people talking, loud music till 2 am TV next room on at 5am

Review 17:Stairs up to room was impressive

Review 18:Manager wanted to tell us what problems he had had with booking.com, which was unprofessional. A bit noisy in bedrooms on saturday night

Review 19:Central location, nice rooms, friendly staff

Review 20:Very handy location, staff were very friendly & helpful, lovely meal in restaurant- all in all a great experience, would definitely stay here again.

Review 21:Bed uncomfortable, room cold, nobody to ask. Arrival, had a long wait until reception unlocked although early afternoon Person on arrival not at all friendly and terse. Under impression breakfast was included. Silly us. We appreciate a value room but have had better at this price including a good breakfast. We booked and paid for 2 nights but only stayed 1 left about 8.30 am. AM staff friendly but did not tell them about our uncomfortable stay. Just wanted to get out.

Review 22:The shower The stairways The Meridian next door. Meal great and young staff lovely. Public areas very clean and he lady cleaning stairs in the morning very bright and happy.

Review 23:No dislikes at all , a better directional map could be improved , but a good place to visit ,

Review 24:over all it was a lovely place to stay , i would recommend to any one to use this place , i will be back and i Du recommend

Review 25:The location of our room was quite noisy with outside traffic all night. That said we did not close the window in the room as it was too hot but it would not put me off using the Hotel again.

Review 26:Me and my partner came down for an overnight stay we were made to feel comfortable and welcome by the staff. Staff were friendly and spent time to talk to us. Food was amazing and great portion sizes

Review 27:In my room(No.9) the seal around the window was broken and at night especially up to midnight could clearly hear the music from a neighbouring building, TV took ages to warm up, till i was told i thought it had broken.

Review 28:Friendly staff, great location, value for money food, especially the "Summer Savers" menu.

Review 29:Noisy hotel. Very loud music in lounge had to ask for it to be turned down. Extremely loud music from nearby pub until 1am in the morning. Dusty, skirting boards and dust inside wardrobe. Handle on the window was broken although reported on checking-in was never fixed . therefore unable to open/close window making it a potential fire hazard. Floor in bathroom was very cracked and toilet did not flush properly. Door to bathroom was on a self closing device which made it very heavy and hard to open and difficult to close without it banging very loudly.

Review 30:Hotel was central.

Review 31:There were no cereals, fruit or fruit juice available at breakfast. A hot drink should have been included in the price of breakfast. My room was not serviced after my first night.

Review 32:The chef made a risotto without cream especially for me.

Review 33:We booked two rooms and one of the rooms smelt strongly of cigarette smoke despite the room and entire building being non-smoking. When we informed the reception they were helpful and apologetic and promptly gave us another room. Decor, furniture and carpet is a bit dated, with some lights not working. Parking was initially a bit difficult to find as it is around the back of the hotel and you have to go down a pne way side street in order to access it.

Review 34:Staff were friendly and helpful. It is clean and in a good location close to shops, restaurants and the waterfront/beach.

Review 35:No Lounge for residents, only th bar or restaurant. This meant if not wanting to drink one must either go tothe bedroom or outside.

Review 36:There was nothing that I would write home about except the staff were very polite and helpful, that is all except one.

Review 37:Not at all applicable

Review 38:The staff were so very attentive and my companion and i were made to feel welcome and we could not have been treated with any more care and professionalism. We dined in the hotel and the food was scrumptious.

Review 39:only downside was there was no shower in ,and can be a bit noisy at front of hotel because of location...

Review 40:our room was ok very comfortable, hotel has excellent location, food was very good...

Review 41:Receptionist not the most helpful person I've ever met, bathroom could do with extra attention to cleaning, I.e under sink basin and tiles behind pedestal

Review 42:Great value for money, hotel located centrally, rooms basic & dated but adequate.

Review 43:if you like noise, and people argueing next door to you till 5 20 in the morning. this is the place for you.i had to go get porter to shut them up, but still continued

Review 44:the food

Review 45:The location and the comfort of the room with a full size bath which waswell needed with my lower back muscle pain from too much golf added thekelp gell from the hotel to my redox salts and was cured by morning, plusgot my flat keys sent to my friends house 400 miles away which I hadleft behind ,many thanks to the hotel staff for their pleasant friendlyservice and help and am sure I will return next time im in ayr.

Review 46:the two single beds were uncomfortable although very clean

Review 47:The room was very clean. the bathroom was also very clean. Tea and coffee most welcome in our room also toiletries. We had a lovely time.

Review 48:Was ignored by the Breakfast staff in the hotel so had to go into the adjoining Meridan Restraunt to be served, even then we had a long wait to be served and for breakfast and it was not busy at 11am on a Sunday.

Review 49:The pictures on the website are deceiving. Thought these were going to be rooms above a pub but was I in for a surprize. What a lovely hotel with 2 large restaurants, nice bar and beers, nice clean rooms with en-suite. Lovely Reception staff

Review 50:Only downside was the juke box in the bar was a bit loud, would have been better as background music. The men were wanting to watch football but not ideal surroundings for that. However staff allowed us to sit in dining area which was much quieter and we could watch television.

Review 51:The staff were so friendly and helpful, the bedrooms very comfortable, hotel was in a great location, and the food was tremendous.

Review 52:The atmosphere is one of friendly, welcoming hospitality. We stayed only one night, but found the staff and fellow-customers particularly warm and, in the case of the staff, highly-efficient. The food was also very good. We would happily return - and intend to.

Review 53:My room was above a pub with a live band. The music didn't stop until 12:50 followed by 40minutes of banging and moving bins as they cleared up. I got up and dressed to find someone to complain which I did. He apologised as did the receptionist as I checked out. I was sorry too that my holiday was spoiled. by my inability to get a decent night's sleep

Review 54:It was a great location and good parking. Bathroom and shower were excellent

Review 55:The only issues we had were minor: no breakfast was provided with the lodgings and the beds were of average quality.

Review 56:Ayrshire and Galloway had an inviting environment, extremely close to both key bus stops and almost directly across from the scotrail terminal. Food was exceptional and the price was amazing for the lodgings.

Review 57:The bed kept rolling away from the wall, when sitting on it.

Review 58:The fact that I could take my dog, & he was very happy. Local for beach, shops & bars.

Review 59:We asked for bed and breakfast in ayr and your site highlighted this hotel but it was room only you should block this in caspital letters or highlight so that it is clear not happy with your description

Review 60:Staff were very good food was excellent value .never used the wifi but this is a good point

Review 61:This hotel was great value for money, excellent location for shops and our visit to the Gaiety Theatre which was the main reason for our stay. Staff very friendly and compliments to the chef for their lovely food which was very well presented. Overall great value for money.

Review 62:Car park was cramped. Beds not attached to headboards made sitting up on bed interesting!

Review 63:Central location but not noisy . Lots of choice for where to eat.

Review 64:The bed in twin room was like lying on a bundle of cotton balls which is ok if you like a very soft mattress I prefer a firm mattress.

Review 65:The location was excellent

Review 66:Room heating didn't go off so we were left sweating all night!! Called down and a lady replied to say she would send the night porter up in 20 mins which was ages as by this point we were roasting night porter tried to turn them off but didn't work and advised there was no other rooms available so we had a very uncomfortable sleep

Review 67:great location right in the city centre and train station near by, night porter man was lovely tried his hardest to help. Fast food shop a couple of doors down.

Review 68:on Sunday night music far too loud in the bar, on Tuesday night girl closed bar at 10.20pm, although it was advertised to stay open until 11pm.

Review 69:friendly staff, food good value and good location.

Review 70:Room had a strange smell, like stale smoke and the bath towel on the second morning was ripped in more than one place

Review 71:The staff were helpful and friendly

Review 72:I didn't like the fact that the bottom sheet of my bed did not fit the bed properly and had been put on inside out. Also, I would have appreciated a clean cup and saucer every day of my stay.

Review 73:The staff were helpful, efficient, and very friendly. The room was warm and the bed comfortable.

Review 74:A bit tricky to find. Satnav lead us a bit of a dance.

Review 75:Nice location for easy walk through he town. take-aways / pubs nearby for our evening meal. Breakfasted at the restaurant next door (associated business) which was a real treat. Friendly staff. Good hotel bar. On site parking

Review 76:on arrival being told breakfast is in the restaurant next door 7-11 am

Review 77:breakfast in the lounge bar 10 am till 12 pm. en suite had a bath as well as shower.

Review 78:We were in Ayr for a Week-End and had to find a good bed and good place close the airport. We arrived in Ayrshire and Galloway Hotel and we can recommand it because all the services were very well. Really well surprised and we will come back at same place next time will come to Scotland!

Review 79:Noise outside due to buses on main road. But this isnt the hotels fault. Double glazing might help though! Couple of dead flies on windowsill lol.

Review 80:Beds were really comfy. Room and bathroom nice n clean. Really friendly staff, excellent location.

Review 81:The only thing that I didn't like was that our room was over the front of the building and the noise from traffic was terrible. As it was very warm I didn't want to shut the window. Apart from that everything was brilliant. Will stay there again.

Review 82:Comfortable room. Shower brilliant. Food in the Bistro was excellent. Staff extremely helpful. Breakfast in the Meridian was very good. Again extremely helpful staff.

Review 83:Early wake-up call by arrival of a delivery van, staff and van driver made sure everyone heard them.

Review 84:Good value for money, comfortable room and great food.

Review 85:The hot water was not hot all the time when trying to take a hot shower at night the hot water was cold

Review 86:My girlfriend and I enjoyed everything. And my girlfriend and I would go back

Review 87:The rooms were old fashioned and could do with upgrade.

Review 88:The location was excellent. The rooms were clean. The staff were very helpful. Lovely bar and food area. Near train station. If planning any further visits to Ayr I will be booking this hotel.

Review 89:Trying to get a drink at the bar early on Friday evening proved a challenge, the staff alternated between invisible and disinterested. Surprised to find that breakfast was not included in the room price. No menus available in room.

Review 90:Hotel is situated in town centre close to all amenities. Room and bathroom were clean and modern.

Review 91:Beds where to soft and out dated stairs to the rooms are really bad seem to be shallow and steep could easly fall and get hurt on them would need to think about installing a lift.

Review 92:Location was excellent and very friendly staff

Review 93:Reception was not staffed and locked you had to ring a bell. There was little evidence of effort to sell evening meals, no menus on display, no staff in food area. The hotel décor is dated in the passages and bedrooms, poor lighting, no effort to welcome tourists with pack or info in rooms. Breakfast not served in hotel but next door in café bar

Review 94:The location was good in the centre of the town.

Review 95:No coffee in the bar for guests. Unhappy my wife couldn't even get a white coffee, let alone a liquor coffee in the bar. Later on in the pub next door she could, then realised it was the same establishment.

Review 96:Price was reasonable, Nice central location for Ayr. Bar meals were OK.

Review 97:Single room, located next to hotel boiler flue meaning room had a continued loud droning sound all night. Residents come and go all night, room and hallway doors have poor closets so doors inevitably close with a bang. Bar staff double up as receptionists but are unaware or in sufficiently trained to deal with complaints or appease paying guests. Worst stay anywhere in 8 years working away from home.

Review 98:Proximity to quality restaurants

Review 99:Poor parking, front entrance on main road with double yellows. decor very dated throwback to the 70s. Had to go elsewhere for breakfast. No lift stairs steep for anyone with mobility issues.

Review 100:Clean and reasonable price. central location

Review 101:Car park is small so sometimes lucky to get parked. No lift if you've got heavy luggage. Some noisy seagulls but can't be helped!

Review 102:Very reasonably priced for town centre. Convenient location - 5 mins. walk from train station then 40 mins to Glasgow. Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent housekeeping - spotless. Free private car park. Nice restaurant next door. Free Wifi. Everything you need is provided in the room.

Review 103:Beware of the noise from next door on a Saturday night if there is a band playing. From my room it sounded as though I was actually in the bar with the band! (It did stop at just after midnight) There was only a small car park which may be an issue at busy times.

Review 104:Right in the centre of town, close to the train station that we were using whilst there. Helpful staff as well.

Review 105:Loud music late at night from establishment next door. Dust around bed headboard, cracked sink, unable to see writing on TV remote

Review 106:Town centre location

Review 107:The bedroom furniture and decor are a bit out dated and the furnishings were old fashioned. Bathroom was clean and the shower was great , shame about the noise of the road below.

Review 108:We liked the ease of the station nearby 2 mins walk and 10 mins walk to the beach area. Lovely bar and meals served on the premesis and next door so the change of scenery was great. Lovely helpful staff and great food portions.

Review 109:My TV didn't work and window wouldn't shut properly but that was just individual room problem

Review 110:Free parking area, free unlimited wifi access, comfy bed.

Review 111:We had to pay a high price because of the games. Room was a bit tired. Small bathroom and the bed was a bit hard. Warm summer evening meant that we slept with the window open. Constant sound of seagulls and the traffic from early morning.

Review 112:Very helpful staff and good location for Ayr and station

Review 113:First night very hot (no air-conditioning) so needed windows open. Kept awake by shop alarms and seagulls. Restaurant / bar close far too early. Parking very difficult to get to and totally insufficient.

Review 114:Staff very helpful, even allowing us to leave our car in the staff car park

Review 115:No eating in the hotel before 10am Guests have to go to the restuarant next door for breakfast.

Review 116:Close to the railway station and good eating in the evening

Review 117:Room next to open Fire Escape (Room 11) Room full of spiders including on bed cover Ancient room furniture and decor

Review 118:Clean Linen Comfortable Bed Good Shower

Review 119:Hotel entrance next door to public bar entrance and the guest is greeted by a motley crew of bar customers smoking on the corner as there is no specified smoking area for the bar.Very pokey and difficult to locate car parking.

Review 120:Decor a bit jaded but comfortable room.Shower pressure very good.

Review 121:Rooms very warm and even with windows open uncomfortably warm.No flat sheet on beds just fitted one and duvet. can't be avoided but Seagulls very noisy seemed to be living on flat roof of hotel heard them most of night!

Review 122:Ideal location for shops beach and where we needed to go.Hairdryer tea and coffee kettle in room.menu good choice and alternative restaurant next door.

Review 123:Not a lot to dislike to be fair.

Review 124:An enjoyable stay, particularly enjoyed the fish supper! Breakfast in the Meridian next door equally good. Clean simple room and superb price. I would stay here if I'm ever visit Ayr again. And what a great town by the way.

Review 125:friendly informative staff

Review 126:Traffic noise.as room was next to traffic lights constant vehicle noise.

Review 134:Nothing in particular

Review 135:The location was very good (middle of town)

Review 136:Just the weather lol , rain and wind all weekend

Review 137:The amenities were close by which was good
