Reviews for Grand Hotel Bellevue - Grand Place

Review 1:Soundproofing was good, but not perfect. Our room overlooked the Grand Place which, being December, resulted in a big wheel being sited outside our window. Although this operated beyond midnight the glazing ensured that it didn't disturb us. However my wife could hear music from a nearby shop and occasional raised voices in the next room. I couldn't, but then my hearing isn't as perfect as hers!

Review 2:Location fantastic. Staff extremely helpful. Good selection of food for breakfast.

Review 3:There seemed to be a slightly unpleasant smell in reception. Of the 3 rooms we booked, our room had an angular wall, it was fairly small and had no bath.

Review 4:The location was really good. Very close to the Christmas market and the main shops and galleries. Also the staff were helpful and very friendly.

Review 5:The bathroom was very small - you had to squeeze around the door to get in and out!...but the shower was good. No view - Looked out over other rooms.

Review 6:Great location - near to old town and the metro stop for further afield. Staff were extremely helpful. Nice room with comfortable bed.

Review 7:I think the bar could be more comfortable to visit. It was very dark and I wouldn't like to have sat there on my own.

Review 8:The location is excellent. The seating area in the lobby was comfortable, but as we were with a group of friends it would be good to have more 'lounge' space to talk, have a drink etc.

Review 9:Wifi was not reliable.

Review 10:Good location within walking distance of the historic city centre and lots of cafes and shops. Comfortable bed and great shower. Very good continental breakfast as well as cooked dishes.

Review 11:Location is superb and the staff are really welcoming. Have stayed in hotels in UK and have struggled to understand what they're saying more than at this hotel where English is not their first language.

Review 12:Breakfast could be taken at extra cost, but in a sterile room with no atmasphere whatsoever.

Review 13:Good location with dozens of cafe's and restaurants nearby. Staff were fine. Large comfortable room.

Review 14:The only down point was the wifi was pretty slow and unreliable at times.

Review 15:Bright spacious room. Nice large clean bathroom, comfortable bed. Tea/coffee facilities, TV and safe in room. Great location-close to bars, restaurants, shops and metro station.

Review 16:Not too kid friendly. Hotel menu was definitely for adults, had to carry the stroller up and down the steps at the front entrance. Paid $190 a night which was high for what the hotel was, but it was during euro basket so prices were probably higher than usual.

Review 17:Staff was amazing and so helpful. Rooms were spacious and bathrooms were updated and clean. Fantastic location.

Review 18:Nothing it was perfect

Review 19:Lovely hotel , friendly staff and perfect location right in the centre of Lille. had really nice facilities too (lovely hot showers ) the staff even offered an umbrella in the bad weather

Review 20:No bad experiences.

Review 21:Quiet, sylish and well located. The hotel and our room was well furnished and the beds and pillows were nice and comfortable. The view from our room, over the square was worth the extra. the hotel's location was excellent with easy access to the Metro Station and the various shops, museums and art galleries. It was just a couple of stops from Euro-Lille and the Eurostar to Rihour., the nearest metro to the hotel. We would definitely be very happy to stay there again.

Review 22:The toilet room was very small. The bathroom was very big. We thought a little more room in the toilet was required.

Review 23:Location was fantastic. Decor was excellent Everything was superb,First Class and great value for money.

Review 24:WiFi worked only part of the time (ended up using WiFi from nearby bookstore that reached our room); No view from room, despite name (we had a room facing an internal drab courtyard)

Review 25:Spacious comfortable room; Large bathroom; My daughter liked the classic "fanciness" of the hotel---lots of gold plated and antique furniture, glass elevator, etc; Central location; Adequate breakfast

Review 26:The friendly and helpful staff and the lovely view of the square from the bedroom - not at all noisy as there was two doors on to the balcony and when both closed there was not noise at all - had a very comfortable stay and location was just right - could walk to station and in to the old town and also the shopping areas. Would deffinitely recommend and will hopefully return

Review 27:The breakfast seemed expensive at 14 Euros per person.

Review 28:The location and atmosphere was excellent. the staff were very friendly and helpful and made our stay very enjoyable.

Review 29:Ever so slightly cramped breakfast room layout between tables.

Review 30:Staff (lady at front desk and later the gentleman) - perfect English, super assistance with parking and first class hotel all round.

Review 31:Excellent position by Grand Place. Restaurants of varying types close to hand as was parking. Morning checkout lady EXTREMELY helpful allowing stumbling French to be used and scooping up luggage to help down short flight of exterior stairs.

Review 32:Just wish the hotel had one English speaking channel...

Review 33:Lovely hotel. Lille is a great place for shopaholics. Reception staff are excellent, cannot thank them enough for their help with a problem we had.....Lovely room on 4th floor with small veranda

Review 34:The location is definitely one of the best you can get in Lille. The employees go the extra mile to satisfy their guests. They are flexible, pro-active and always willing to help.

Review 35:No English speaking TV channels - French only. On the morning we chose to have breakfast, the hot plate was not working, so all scrambled egg, sausages and bacon was cold, with no explanation given at the time.

Review 36:Staff friendliness, large room, location

Review 37:The area around the hotel was little run down.

Review 38:Although further from the railway station than we had thought, we were able to walk the distance. There were several nearby restaurants. The hotel is a bit old-fashioned but we liked the antique furniture and the grandeur. As an overnight stop before catching Eurostar, it did the job. Breakfast was good and included bacon and egg.

Review 39:Location -- museums, churches, station are all easily walkable. Comfort, space and peacefulness of room. Wonderful helpfulness of staff (Tewfiq in particular).

Review 40:Cooked part of the breakfast was cold. Breakfast room was too small and felt cramped. Also, we felt it was quite expensive.

Review 41:Location, friendliness of staff, large comfortable room.

Review 42:Overall the personnel was very friendly except one person at the front desk. I had asked him to call a taxi to go to an urgent meeting and waited and waited. I think he did forget to call, but he did not want to admit, when he called he said that the taxi would arrive in 20 minutes. And his excuse was beeing very busy and alone at the front desk. Other than this gentleman, the rest of the people are nice and helpful.

Review 43:Its location is excellent...

Review 44:It took a long time for the water to heat up in the bath/shower - but quite a minor problem really.

Review 45:Very comfortable bed; friendly, helpful staff; tea/coffee facilitis in room; excellent wifi; very good location; good breakfast

Review 46:The bedroom (room 106) was too warm (we couldn't seem to turn the heating off). The Breakfast Room had no windows, and is rather small, however the actual breakfast was very nice.

Review 47:The hotel was in a great location, within walking distance of most local attractions and amongst lots of shops and restaurants. Old Lille (Vieux Lille), was on your doorstop and Grand Place is a good place to watch the world go by with a suitable beverage.

Review 48:No internet at all for more than 3 days, in the heart of Europe, at 100 m from the 2nd financial district in France!! At departure - 50 (fifty!!) minutes of waiting for a taxi in front of the hotel. Missed the train, almost missed the plane in Paris. This hotel has a real problem. Despite the excellent location - never again!

Review 49:Quick & easy walk from train station. Warm welcome & friendly staff. Very close to great choice of restaurants. Clean and comfortable room, with spectacular view.

Review 50:A lovely characterful hotel with friendly, helpful staff and high standards. A very good buffet breakfast and fast, free wifi, coupled with a location that couldn't be bettered made for a pleasurable and relaxing city break.

Review 51:Only one small complaint could have done with more lighting in bathroom and bedroom little difficult doing hair and make-up.

Review 52:Location, room, bed and pillows. Tea coffee in the room. Most of all the staff.

Review 53:Reception staff slightly distant. Shower pressure inadequate. Room and bathroom could do with better lighting. At 14€ the breakfast was adequate, but uninspired. Cupboard in room was poorly placed and the bathroom needs more hooks for hanging clothes and towels.

Review 54:I'd asked for a quiet room and was given it, much appreciated. Large room, large bathroom with proper bath as well as shower. Decent size TV screen. There are two pleasant breakfast rooms.

Review 55:The room was a combination of old good furniture and modern cheap furniture. I especially did not like the clear plastic chairs. The red carpet at the entrance needs replacing.

Review 56:Location, view, and antiques

Review 57:Nothing

Review 58:Everyone was very keen to ensure we had a successful stay and were exceptionally helpful when our Eurostar train was cancelled and we stayed an extra night.

Review 59:Booked a taxi the evening before, which they gave away to another guest and therefore I was late to my meeting! Wi-fi didn't work. Dated bedding etc Limited room service. No menu's in English.

Review 60:Good location

Review 61:If being picky the separate wc in the room was located in a very small "cupboard" - not a major issue.

Review 62:Nice staff, good size room, great location.

Review 63:no complaints

Review 64:warm, friendly & helpful staff great bed, quiet room excellent breakfast location walkable from train station - Metro stop near nice shopping location & good restaurants

Review 65:Nothing I didn't like

Review 66:The hotel had a feel good factor about it and keeps a link with it's past whilst remaining firmly in the present. It is also great value for money.

Review 67:Ideal location for the Christmas market!! Very central. Hotel staff were excellent! Very helpful! Room was very clean and bed was very comfortable!! Will def go back and recommend to friends and family.

Review 68:Could do with a decoration refresh.

Review 69:Excellent location and very helpful, friendly staff. Ask for a room with a view - that's what makes the hotel experience good.

Review 70:Location to Grand Place, parking was close by. Access to the Old Town and the Chrisftmas market was excellent. Lots of choice of where to eat and drink. The hotel staff were very helpful and welcoming. Checking in and out with a group of 11 went very smoothly.

Review 71:Comfortable beds. Room overlooking Square, no noise from street-double glazing. Modern bathroom. Excellent value for money breakfast. Very helpful and polite staff.

Review 72:No hotel parking. Hotel entrance situated on a busy street, and finding a parking space to unload baggage and check in is very difficult (same problem when checking out). Receptionist suggested car park nearby, much cheaper than the one in the Grand Place. The faff on check-in/check-out would probably put me off using the hotel again if I was travelling by car.

Review 73:Fourth floor room overlooking the Grande Place was a good size, as was the bathroom. Hotel's central location ideal.

Review 74:We were in a Privilege room, but the toilet was just too small for comfortable use. It would have been better to include the toilet in the bathroom. Would also have liked a bidet

Review 75:great location & ambience

Review 76:Although we turned off air conditioning unit it did switch off and on during night so my husband did not sleep well, i was fine with ear plugs.

Review 77:Staff warm and welcoming, very spacious, very comfortable, very clean, lovely decor, excellent central location. We loved it and would not hesitate in staying again as ticks all boxes.

Review 78:Plastic spoons as part of the tea/coffee facilities in the room - melted when retrieving tea bags!

Review 79:Location of the hotel is excellent, with views over the Grand Place and easy walking distance to all the attractions and restaurants. Free wifi was excellent. Breakfast was good as it included hot food and unlimited drinks so worth the €14, and also served until late.

Review 80:NOTHING!

Review 81:1.Fantastic Centrally located 2.Brilliant underground public car park next door 3. Great Buffet Breakfast 4. Amazingly helpful front desk

Review 82:Poor and slow wifi, breaking up connection, makes it difficult to work or look anything up on the web.

Review 83:Nice and clean, close to everywhere :), friendly staff, small but comfortable enough room and decent breakfast. Definitely worth recommending.

Review 84:Nothing - everything was first class

Review 85:Excellent location. Helpful staff.Comfortable room, well furnished and every need catered for. View of Grand Place and the triple glazing blocked out the noise completely when required although we spent a lot of time with the window open admiring the view.

Review 86:They cut out the nice lounge and rented it out, so the way in the hotel is by a back door. Not a nice breakfast room Not very clean in the bathroom

Review 87:Nice staff

Review 88:Bathroom was tiny. Had to manoevere into the shower. Extractor didn't work. Tea, coffee and kettle wa supplied - but nowhere to plug it in safely. Had to balance kettle on backpack on floor. Not very convenient or safe.

Review 89:Good location, friendly staff, spotlessly clean, comfortable bed, decent breakfast,

Review 90:The rate went up for the 3 nights I was there, by the 3rd night it was way overpriced. The room had a musty smell.

Review 91:Staff were very friendly and attentive always with a kind greeting and willing to help. The location is fantastic, right in the centre of Lille.

Review 92:Rooms can be noisy. Breakfast nowadays is very expensive in most hotels.

Review 93:Perfect location, close to Tourist Information, bike rental, subway, musea, shops and central market place. Very friendly staff.

Review 94:Be warned that there is some early morning noise from trucks and vans parking up in the Grand Place to offload and deliver goods which (since I'm a light sleeper) was a bit unwelcome. This was a small price to pay for the view however - ask for a room on a high floor if this would bother you greatly though. Somewhat oddly there is a door labelled "Bar" in the hotel but when the bar is open, it could not be accessed from the hotel, rather you had to go outside and enter via a separate door. Think it may have been under separate ownership and whilst not a problem, it was a bit disconcerting to us (and others) as we tried in vain to get in!

Review 95:The location was great - minutes from ample public parking, shops, restaurants etc - Lille is a very walkable city. We had a Grand Place view room and the view was wonderful - definitely recommend particularly as other rooms seemed to look into the fire escape etc. Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant throughout our stay, helping us in with our luggage, directing us to parking facilities etc. Really enjoyed our stay here.

Review 96:The A/C was so loud, though we were too tired to call the technical support.

Review 97:It is such a nice place to stay, a bit from the nineties, but comfortable. Recommending

Review 98:- Wifi was an ongoing issue. Only place to receive any signal was in main floor lobby.

Review 99:- Cordial staff. - Room & decor. - Historical architecture. - Location.

Review 100:Wifi didn't work in all the rooms Double beds were made of 2 singles next to each other which is not ideal Blankets rather than duvets

Review 101:Breakfast was lovely, really good range and v fresh We were given free upgrades for all 4 rooms, really lovely rooms The location is perfect Good toiletries etc provided so we didn't need to bring much, also liked the dressing gowns

Review 102:The view from the room was of a fire escape and you need to pay another 50 Euros for a real view. It is a pity that the hotel side on the Grand Place is now a music store, which means there are no public rooms facing the Grand Place.

Review 103:The room was very clean and comfortable. The location of the hotel is excellent for meals and sight-seeing. The receptionist recommended a few good restaurants, which we found very helpful, as there are so many to choose from in Lille.

Review 104:Although I must confess to not asking for assistance, the Wi-Fi was not forthcoming.

Review 105:The location could not be better. It is right bang in the middle of town but is not affected by traffic noise and as yet I have not be woken at 5 in the morning by refuse or recycling collections.

Review 106:Poor facilities, slightly worn appearance, poorly designed mix of bathroom/toilet; albeit nice new bathroom. Could so with a little more styling, then it would be fabulous.

Review 107:Great location, nice traditional style, I was happy to stay there and the staff were friendly, professional and helpful.

Review 108:the view from the room was of the fire escape.

Review 109:Really well placed for exploring the old town. Staff were friendly and efficient and despite claiming to only speak a "little" English, their English was way better than my French. We didn't try the breakfast which was extra.

Review 110:On arrival, the receptionist included a charge for breakfast and citytax for two people although my booking was room only and for one person.I provided my credit card for security only but a €400 charge wasimmediately applied without my knowledge. I subsequently paid my bill of€363, not realising that the hotel had already taken €400. When Icontacted them, I was told that no manager would be available over theweekend, that I would have to provide proof of such an overpayment bycontacting them after the weekend. Since the overpayment of over onehundred percent was their fault, I would have expected that they wouldactually bother to attempt to remedy their action. Instead, they haveleft me with the responsibility of proving this overpayment and tryingto retrieve my money. I am a frequent traveller and have neverencountered such an attitude anywhere in the world. The only concern ofstaff members is to collect as much revenue as possible for the hotel.Pushing a breakfast sale and a second city tax contributed to thismistake in the first place and nobody at the hotel has shown theslightest interest in sorting out the problem. I would have been willingto pay my bill on arrival, but of course, this does not suit anestablishment which hopes that you will rack up extras.

Review 111:The location is good.

Review 112:Location fab for shops and restaurants and culture. Wonderful views of grand place ( the main square) from front windows. Lille pavement cafe life is buzzing and fun. Shops were very good- something for everyone in the different areas. Lille itself is very attractive. The office de tourisme is just round the corner from the hotel- we booked a quick bus tour from the office, of the city when we arrived so we could see where we wanted to go on foot. It gave us our bearings for the best shops and areas as well as telling us about the history of rhe town.

Review 113:Would be really nice if the entrance was on the Grand Place but it is not a problem.

Review 114:In the old part of Lille and on the Grand Place. Within walking distance of both railway stations.

Review 115:Early morning noise from floor above. Wi-fi hit or miss.

Review 116:Spacious ("superior") room. Excellent Bathroom. Large comfortable bed. Plenty to eat at buffet breakfast which at first seemed a little expensive until town centre dining prices became apparent.

Review 117:We didn't have the breakfast as felt it was expensive - lots of places close by offering what you need though

Review 118:Excellent location and we had a room with the Grand Place view which I can highly recommend. Very comfy bed and room very clean. Good to have tea and coffee facilities in the room as well. Staff always helpful and friendly

Review 119:nil

Review 120:"Grand" fittings and furnishing - lovely period hotel. Exceptional location. We booked a traditional room but were upgraded to a superior room by the hotel at no extra charge.

Review 121:Beds were old and worn. The room looked tired, and a bug was flying around. The hallway floor made a loud noise everytime it was stepped on. The receptionist in the morning was NOT friendly at all. As I walked by the reception, she asked me for my key without a good morning or any kind of greeting and not a smile on her face. She was very rude!

Review 122:Nice view of Square. Gentleman at reception was very helpful to give us directions to the hotel at 3:00am. He even went outside to make sure we would find the hotel.

Review 123:The rooms were small, noisy and uncomfortable. You would expect at least a bedside table and a place to put your suitcase other than that little table. There was no wi-fi at all.

Review 124:The staff were very friendly. Showed us a very nice restaurant too. The hotel is right in the middle of the city centre. That was really perfect. Also we ended with a nice breakfast which would have been excellent if the croissant had been better quality.

Review 125:Had to ring reception several times over the w/e to get logged back into wifi.

Review 126:The location, so close to all the sights. Friendly staff. Comfortable quiet room with a fabulous view. Free wifi. Good buffet breakfast.

Review 127:Bathroom is so small that you really fell uncomfortable Wifi was not working, on our floor

Review 128:perfect place for exploring the city nice old charming hotel with a good atmosphere Beds are excellent

Review 129:Rooms a bit cold. But I am often cold. Heating didn't work great. Location fantastic. Staff great.

Review 130:The toilet is a bit small

Review 131:The staff are very friendly, professional and helpful.

Review 132:Bath indicated was actually a shower, though not a serious issue for me.

Review 133:Location, staff and flexibility.

Review 134:Rooms with views are well worth the extra euro

Review 135:cleanliness, very friendly and efficient staff
