Reviews for YHA Brecon Beacons
Review 1:The twin room is very small - not large enough to sit in and chat unless in bed!
Review 2:The manager and his wife were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Very clean and comfortable.
Review 3:Overall this place is small and not comfortable. The rooms are very small and a shared shower is a joke! Not a real shower, just a hole in a wall. We stayed in YHA previously and I have to say this place is the worst. Bad value for money either.
Review 4:Staff are friendly and welcoming.
Review 5:The room for 4 people were very tiny and the bunkbed's height was dangerously low.
Review 6:The location and the staff were wonderful. The living room was charming and the kitchen well equipped. The supper for £8 was very tasty and the portions were very generous.
Review 7:Lovely place, great location. Staff went out of their way to make us have a comfortable stay eg served us dinner even though we were late and gave great walking tips.
Review 8:Bed felt like a budget one, not the most comfy
Review 9:Great budget option. Cosy lounge for cards, map reading and socialising. Helpful staff. Great location, really felt out in the country. The building was great too, really told a story and had history and character
Review 10:Room too hot from pipes within the room. The bunk bed had no ladder therefore having to step onto mattress below to get to top bunk not ideal when person below is asleep.
Review 11:Excellent location, Friendly staff and clean kitchen.
Review 12:Room was tiny which made the cobwebs and dangling spiders and other insects appear a lot larger than what they were. The room was very dry from poor heating system and our mouths were bone dry in the morning. A very uncomfortable night! The shower water was freezing called as there was no hot water at all to shower with. In all... A DISASTER! Richard was helpful but in gross denial regarding the spiders etc. He didn't seem to get it that ladies who regard cleanliness as very important cannot tolerate such things dangling over their bed.
Review 13:Location.
Review 14:There was nothing I didn't like!
Review 15:I liked the location, the en suite room. I liked that there was no wifi or phone signal so I could escape the constant use of my phone.
Review 16:Friendly, welcoming & efficient staff. Excellent breakfast. The bed was extra firm so took the second night to get used to. The bed linen & duvet were brilliant; the location delightful.
Review 17:A little hard to find and steep walk from car park, but worth the effort.
Review 18:Our hosts, Richard and Liz, were very friendly and helpful. The facility was top notch and in a beautiful location. Couldn't be happier. We'd like to go back to spend more time.
Review 19:The one tiny spider my husband had to dispose of ha ha.
Review 20:We loved our stay here! So clean, comfy and very reasonably priced. We came for the Jazz Festival and our friends stayed too. We shared a bathroom & using it when needed was no trouble at all. Highly recommend this place. Manager/staff very accommodating & welcoming. It's great for children too so will bring ours soon :-)
Review 21:Price, facilites: tiny room bunk bed, no breakfast, no towels or soap etc.a basic hostel at £50 per night for single person was extortionate. No tea facilities or t.v.or radio in room. No table just one stool. Cobwebs and shabby decor. Lightbulb near shower didnt work. Attic window didn't open. Whole place needs refurb including outside space. Could have stayed in much better accommodation for less. Would never stay again.
Review 22:National park
Review 23:Very scant mobile coverage - which is actually a positive in my opinion!
Review 24:Perfect location for visiting the Brevon Beacons. Spotless, comfortable hostel with excellent facilities; kitchen, drying room etc. Staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you.
Review 25:There is no signal for phones and no wifi is offered. (The guy did explain that they have a very low limit on their wifi and that the town is in the process of getting a high speed cable) The soundproofing is poor, this is not a place to party as there is a lot of families with young children.
Review 26:Very convenient location super central to all activities (if you have a car) Friendly team (waited for us as we arrived late) Comfortable with good facilities (shower/lounge area/ kitchen) Very clean!!
Review 27:Not a bad experience at all but hadn't realised that it would be a fixed menu for supper. [Hence we went to the pub!]
Review 28:The welcome on arrival, very friendly. Also very helpful in helping us book a meal at the local pub.
Review 29:The map on booking.com is wholly inaccurate, which was extremely vexing at the end of a long cycle journey. I will be writing to them separately and suggest you do also. In fact, I find it quite astounding that no one at your end has picked up on this. Everything else was great, but was severely put out after getting a puncture and having to wheel my bike for a few miles at 9pm. Please resolve this.
Review 30:The bed was too small for me as a 6ft adult, I was unable to stretch out. I found the room very small. It is clean, warm and functional but not somewhere you want to spend a long time
Review 31:I loved the location, set off the road, away from traffic and overlooking spectacular mountains, it was lovely Staff were very helpful and friendly
Review 32:The location, value for money, facilities and staff are all excellent we had a great stay. After been out in all weathers to come back to a warm fire in the lounge room was a treat and drying room to dry your clothes for the next days walk. You have the choice of taking your own food or having a three course dinner for just £8.50. The location so near to Pen Y Fan was wonderful.
Review 33:While still great value, the sausage and bacon in the breakfast were poor quality and the scrambled eggs were not great. But there was still a choice of toast and cereals etc in addition to the fry, and it was just £5
Review 34:Very close to the mountains and easy to find. Nice cozy old fashioned building. Warm room and showers (middle of winter). Very friendly and obliging staff
Review 35:Stayed in twin bed room with ensuite which was nice in itself. We found the green night light difficult as it made the room very light. Also a general shower room was next to the bedroom and the noise late at night and also before 7 a.m. in the morning (5.30 a.m.) wasn't great But I guess at £17.00 a night this was a good deal.
Review 36:It was a great atmosphere at the hostel with other groups staying as well as ourselves. There were people canoeing, as well as walkers The warden and member of staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed the weekend.
Review 37:* No WiFi (which is very inconvenient since there is no mobile signal in this exact spot) * poor lighting in the room
Review 38:* very helpful receptionist * drying room facility * large dining room and well equipped self-catering kitchen * great sitting room with fireplace * really neat showers * surprisingly comfortable and stable bunk beds * eco-friendly policy * kitchen staff go the extra mile for you and accept unusual orders without hesitation * perfect location making this a good staring point for many hikes in this area
Review 39:Top bunk near ceiling and cobwebs ! Unable to check in until 5pm. Difficult to find hostel, no proper address given, no sign in the town pointing to where it was.
Review 40:Location nicely secluded. Room had basin in it.
Review 41:How to get there was pretty tough for non-residents and foreigners like us. There was hardly signboards along the highway and the roads leading to the hostel. There was also no road lights. We arrived almost at 11 pm. We had to make many many turn-backs as we were completely lost. The roads were a complete darkness. The WelshEnglish spoken by the staff (phone calls) also didn't help much, because we couldn't really understand it. So please put up some signboards.
Review 42:The room is clean. The toilet is very clean, TQ for that. The beds are comfortable enough for a good sleep and a good rest. The farm, country surrounding was beautiful and so refreshing. I certainly have enjoyed my one nite stay there.
Review 43:Nothing apart from the yoghurt at breakfast!
Review 44:Haven't been to a YHA for years so this visit was a revelation. Exceptionally clean, comfortable and welcoming. Lovely location and tremendous value.
Review 45:Lack of internet / network was a little difficult at times especially contacting children at home - but maybe thats helpful if you want to get away from it all!
Review 46:This was our first experience of a YHA as a group of adults and were are totally sold. A quaint farmhouse, autonomy that you wouldn't experience at a hotel and cleanliness was excellent. Very comfortable clean beds and helpful staff. Breakfast was very good too.
Review 47:There was nothing that we didn't like.
Review 48:Wasn't expecting ensuite facilities but had private wet room and seperate private toilet and basin. Also, room larger than stated and we had a double and single bed rather than bunks. The hostel was also licensed-not what we expected.
Review 49:The fact that the car park was too small so had to leave car up a steep hill on a major road and totally insecure. I don't think it would take much to extend the existing car park.
Review 50:Obviously the staff, but was also impressed with the choice of a couple of ales, and by the quietness.
Review 51:Our first stay in a Hostel, best experience ever, definitely coming back! Thank you

Review 66:location, helpful staff, value

Review 68:Location
Review 69:Price a bit higher and dinner food was ok, but expected more.

Review 71:Car park was very difficult late at night due to bad parking of other cars.

Review 83:Beautiful location
Review 84:Rooms small with no opening window, a bit clostrophobic, had to sleep with the door open
Review 85:Really nice atmosphere, great staff and nice communal areas meant a very pleasant stay. Convenient for walking in Brecon Beacons.

Review 91:location, breakfast, staff, facilities, price

Review 100:The shower
Review 101:Staff were excellent especially Gary. This was our first stay in a YHA, to walk up Pen y Fan. Will definitely visit again.
Review 102:Everything was fine.
Review 103:Nice lounge, a good nights sleep....enjoyable overnight stay.
Review 104:The close proximity to the mountains.
Review 105:The hot water was temperamental. Only getting hot water in one of the downstairs showers. Which everyone used
Review 106:The location and friendliness of staff was excellent. Good value for money, what you expect from a hostel. Never stayed in one before would do again.
Review 107:My room (Hawthorn) was perfectly comfortable, although the skylight was incredibly noisy in the storm! There were also lots of tiny midges/insects in the room, so I got bitten a few times.
Review 108:Friendly and really helpful staff. The value for money was fantastic, had a great 3 course meal and plenty of choice for breakfast. Loved the open fire place and setting of the hostel
Review 109:At the end of the day this is a youth hostel so it's all basic but we got a room with a double bed and ensuite, a 3 course evening meal and cooked breakfast. There aren't many places left where you can get all that all for just over £60. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. I'm sure if we had been walking in the area this place would have been an ideal spot for a few days.
Review 110:If I'm being really really fussy, as a girl I'd like access to a hair dryer, purely because going to bed with wet hair is a bit chilly!
Review 111:Friendly staff on arrival, comfortable room in shared dorm, hot shower, comfy chairs and bar if you wanted. Easy to get to. Good value 4 money
Review 112:friendly
Review 113:Small room, shower without pressure
Review 114:nature staff to cook our food
Review 115:Great location, friendly staff.
