Reviews for Hotel Carlton

Review 1:the room was old and it was not very clean. there was large stains on the couch as well as on the fabric walls, which made it look very dirty. so I was not very comfortable.

Review 2:location is perfect.

Review 3:the room was very cold on arrival with the radiators almost off. The bathroom in a Premium/Premier double room is a bit small and basic and the loo was tiny. There was free WiFi, which is great, but very few sockets into which to plug electronic/electric appliances. Could do with more for business travellers. Breakfast was a little basic too. Some yoghurt, fresher pastries and proper bacon and eggs would have been appreciated.

Review 4:the hotel is ideally situated for a shopping and cultural sight seeing expedition. We like its rather dated charm and grand siecle furniture and decor

Review 5:I'm glad I got a deal from booking.com or I would of been pretty disappointed paying full wack for this room: Torn curtains that didn't close properly, cracked tiles on floor, and missing ones from walls, damp & moldy bathroom, (was clean though, you could tell it just couldn't be touched without proper industrial cleaning stuff) and a toilet I could barely move in, I have been in bigger caravan ones. :( Was ok, but defo not worth a 4* rating, more a 3*. And the bed was awful!

Review 6:Situated perfectly in town in a good spot, lovely, helpful staff, couldn't fault them, Breakfast nice enough too. Overall - Clean-ish.

Review 7:Although the showing not working was not really a problem [only stayed for 2 nights] it should have been sorted out as part of on-going maintenance

Review 8:Ideally situated for exploring Lille. Reception staff responded well to a small problem we had with our shower not working. We were offered an alternative room which we declined - only staying for 2 nights

Review 9:79euros for a small bottle of water and 3 breakfasts added to the cost of the room made the stay more expensive than should have been.

Review 10:Great location if slightly noisy. This was to be expectedly on the Braderie week end.

Review 11:Stayed here 15 years ago and the hotel now feels a bit tired and needs updating. Staff a bit impersonal.

Review 12:Easy access to Euro Lille station and main area of Lille

Review 13:Had to put air conditioning on at night to cover noise of traffic as hotel is situated in central square of town.

Review 14:Old fashioned décor and spacious feel of room and hallways. Very helpful reception staff who spoke good English.

Review 15:The staff, the cleanliness and location of hotel are excellent. Lille is a beautiful city all within walking distance. The room was a good size and the air conditioning was all very good.

Review 16:Use of wifi is way to complicated and required re-registration over and over again.

Review 17:Great location, friendly staff. Our car was parked for us which was very convenient as the street was blocked. Booked via booking.com and paid only half of the normal rate.

Review 18:lovely room facing the square, very comfortable, breakfast was great. Staff very friendly and helpful. An excellent location and a short walk to eurorail.

Review 19:Nothing bad except that the council decided to dig up the troad outside the hotel on our second day - more traffic disruption, much noise and a vibrating hotel ( not their fault of course)

Review 20:the location was perfect for walking through the town and finding restaurants. The hotel staff parked my car for me on arrival which was just as well given the Lille chaotic one way road system.

Review 21:This hotel should not have 4 stars. The reception does look luxurious but the rooms are quite ordinary and the walls are very thin (we could hear our neighbors couching or having sex...). We had a 40% discount when we booked but I would say that paying the full price for a room in this hotel would be a complete rip-off.

Review 22:- The location is close the train station. - Very friendly and helpful staff

Review 23:The hotel is located conveniently in the Rue de Paris, just off the main central square and in the heart of the walking streets. Also is ten minute walk from the Eurostar station. The room was comfortable and finished to a high standard. Staff were polite and very accommodating. Buffet breakfast was superb.

Review 24:Location ideal for sightseeing on foot or by tour bus, shopping, eating out. Five minutes walk from Train Stations. Valet parking for residents with a car. Very friendly, helpful and efficient staff.

Review 25:Friendly but unmotivated staff. Bad housekeeping, not really clean, one day room was not done at all. Tiny bathroom, light protection curtains too small thus useless. furniture shows wear. Pretends to be a high class hotel but fails big deal. Very low ceiling in breakfast room.

Review 26:The location is ideal. On the main square but still in walking distance to train stations and Grand Palais conference centre (10-15 minutes). Despite location not much noise due to double windows.

Review 27:Could not get the overhead shower to work but the other part of the shower was excellent. (Might have been by fault but instructions would have helped). Room smelt of cigarette smoke on arrival but soon cleared on opening a window.

Review 28:Location. Nice to be in an old fashioned custom built hotel. Spacious. Comfortable bed. good shower/bath. Openable window. We shall certainly return.

Review 29:I was dismayed as I had booked 3 rooms - 2 for 2 adults and 1 for 2 adults plus 2 children. When the rooms were allocated the large room could only sleep 3 and we had to take a junior suite costing an additional 50 euros p. night. In that room, the bed linen on the children's bed was soiled and we had to ask twice before it was resolved.

Review 30:Location brilliant being walkable from Eurostar and very close to the centre.

Review 31:Not easy to reach by car during rush hour. Had to drive another round, because entrance is not very good visible and earlier than you think.

Review 32:Though in the center of the city, it was a quiet room. Prompt service, helpful staff.

Review 33:Very small hotel bar. Expensive breakfast, there is a gooda alternative : we went just opposite the Hotel to a nice bakery that also serves coffee, called Paul.

Review 34:Excellent location in the city centre. 24 hour reception desk. Car parking service (service voiturier).

Review 35:A fantastic location in a city that, in my opinion, gives Paris a run for its money. Sadly the hotel is in need of a refurb. Our room was clean and comfortable but was rather drab. We arrived at 11am and asked if we could leave our bags but instead was offered an early check in for 30 euros. We accepted but with the benefit if hindsight feel a bit short changed as the room was already clean and ready!

Review 36:We had two rooms. 1St had been modernised and was okay (showerdidn't work though) but second was a little shabby. Lick of paintand some febreeze wouldnt go amiss. Also, booked identical rooms : oneprovided is with plenty of towels, dressing gown. Other just one towel. On the second day our towels were changed. They left one towel for twoadults and a baby.

Review 37:Location Provided a cot

Review 38:The toilet was in a tiny tiny room within the bathroom the reason I assume because they had put a glass seetru sliding door on bathroom I am not large but when using toilet my knees touched the wall it was ridiculous

Review 39:The position of hotel for xmas markets was very good

Review 40:Price of breakfast was a bit steep so we went out instead!

Review 41:The location was perfect, only 15mins walk from Eurostar, right in the centre of town with views over the square. But no noise from the street (we were on the 1st floor). Lovely luxurious rooms, huge comfy bed, we also had a folding child's bed in our room but still had plenty of space. Good bathroom with plenty of toiletries. Very friendly and helpful staff. We were able to leave our cases in reception after checkout as we had a few hours before our train.

Review 42:Really nice, big and comfortable room, large bathroom, tasty breakfast, unbeatable location. Very helpful staff on top of it, can't ask for more :)

Review 43:See above...but we did appreciate the central location in this very beautiful city and staff kindly made reservations for restaurants

Review 44:While decor of rooms lack of carpet and budget laminate floor meant that we were woken not by external noise but by impact sounds of other guests in the room above at 5am in the morning...not good!!!

Review 45:Parking is expensive eg we arrived at 4:30 on 23rd Oct 2014 and left 27th Oct 2014 at 8:30 and we were charged for 5 days. I think that it was not necessary to charge us for the 27th Oct 2014. I would like to see the marks on the walls in the bedroom cleaned.

Review 46:The position of the hotel. Beds are comfortable. When we are given an upgrade without any extra charge, this did not happen this time. A secure car park quite close. The improvement in the quality of the bacon.

Review 47:This hotel is right next to the Opera house in the centre of Lille. Its walking distance from the Eurostar. The Service was excellent, and the rooms were larger than expected. Great views from the top windows, and a wonderful shower!

Review 48:During the night the temperature went up and it got very warm and dry. Also the doors in between the rooms need much better soundproofing, the neighbours could be easily overheard.

Review 49:Nice classy hotel located in the heart of Lille. Spacious rooms. Very comfortable beds. Excellent shower.

Review 50:Staff seemed to think guests are there for their benefit. Hotel is run down my room needed a complete overhaul flaking paint on doors and ceilings, and generally was the standard of a 3 star B&B. the internet worked only about 40% of the time. How this hotel is awarded 4 stars is beyond me.

Review 51:Location

Review 52:Excellent location in a beautiful city. We had a fabulous stay well worth the extra pennies for a little bit of luxury. Great if you are worried about getting round as it is so central. Met all our needs.

Review 53:The only problem was the WIFI which was terrible.

Review 54:The staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel is elegant, comfortable and superbly located for all the sights.

Review 55:Missing Tieback on Curtain in room Missing handle on drawer No Demerara Sugar Not enough milk cartons, we had to keep asking for more

Review 56:Bed was very comfortable and linen very clean and fresh Decor was lovely, we liked the Versaille feel Communal areas very clean and peroid furniture very nice

Review 57:Some areas a little tired my friends room tiles missing in the bathroom and she was upgraded my room was much better and it was a standard rim I did ask for a bath robe which only comes with a superior room.s

Review 58:Good breakfast quiet room

Review 59:disabled access to the breakfast room

Review 60:location good staff been using this hotel for 12 years car access difficult but staff will park the car but at 22eur per night ?

Review 61:The rooms are outdated, this hotel needs a good refurbishment. The wall-sockets in the room are not logically. There are no wall-sockets next to the beds. Old and well used furniture, that needs to be changed. Bed was good although a bit soft.

Review 62:Staff was very nice and helpfull. Location is perfect.

Review 63:Private car park too expensive (22 euros per day). A cheaper option to park in Grand Place just a stones throw from hotel. Faults to kettle and TV but quickly remedied by hotel.

Review 64:Location right in city centre. Room stylishly furnished.

Review 65:There wasn't anything we didn't like.

Review 66:Fantastic location. Effortless & peaceful. Value for money. Finding a hotel where I'd go back to tomorrow.

Review 67:We were driving and getting to the hotel was a problem, even with satnav, as many of the roads were closed to traffic.

Review 68:Excellent location right next to the main square - plenty of places to eat and sit and watch the world go by.

Review 69:Not much to do in Lille on a Sunday night.

Review 70:Good location to train station and the city centre which are all walking distance. Nice room, very comfortable king size bed with nice sheets and quilts.
