Reviews for Croxdale Inn

Review 1:No biscuits, no bath mat, tiny nathroom but it was en suite.

Review 2:Liked the staff helpfullness, the tea/coffee facility. The value for money was superb.

Review 3:Very friendly staff and a very clean Hotel/Inn, we enjoyed our stay very much indeed, the restaurant food was excellent, We would go back there any time...Highly recommended.

Review 4:Bathroom not as seen on booking. Com a bit tired looking although clean

Review 5:Owner and staff friendly. Penash restaurant attached food was very good and well worth a visit

Review 6:Hardly saw the owners. Everything had to be sorted via telephone. The door to the hotel bar was locked so couldn't get in there. Heating was on when I first arrived but no heating the second day when we had wet clothes to dry as it had rained all day. The fronts of the drawers were loose and kept coming away.

Review 7:It was adequate and close to places I wished to visit.

Review 8:Lovely, good sized room, temperature good, nice and bright, well furnished, lots of storage space. Easy access to Durham on regular bus route. Free car parking, nice playground opposite for children. Polite, professional and friendly staff. Acceptable continental breakfast and excellent Indian restaurant. Whole premises refurbished to a high standard. Sower room en suite.

Review 9:Thin walls. Too few power sockets. Broken shower. Poor breakfast - you should really be offering a cooked breakfast. Having to pay for the room on arrival!

Review 10:Convenient location close to the university which we were visiting. Very good Indian meal in the evening. Comfortable beds and good nights sleep

Review 11:Was a scruffy room. Massive room but it was empty, just a bed and drawers!! Waste of space. Also the bathroom was tiny for it being a double room, shower facility didn't have constant hot water. Would NEVER go again. Lots of better places to stay in Durham at a similar price.

Review 12:The location, love Durham

Review 13:Because of the Rugby World Cup I had to look far afield for accommodation and spend an hour or so travelling each way by bus between Newcastle and Croxdale. Short bus ride south for anyone visiting Durham, though.

Review 14:Small room and basic facilities but had everything I needed:undisturbed privacy, clean bathroom with small soap and shower gel, TV, hair dryer, double bed with light weight warm duvet. Indian food restaurant on the premises.

Review 15:Cleaning staff were if anything too efficient. Threw away soap - didn't have any for the second day.

Review 16:Restaurant had some of the best Indian food I have ever had. Fairly close to Durham. Fairly good value for money.

Review 17:The rooms could have been a bit cleaner and better decorated. The car park was quite dark at the back of it and was very un-even

Review 18:It was handy and close to where i needed to be

Review 19:The breakfast is served after 8:30. The hotel is next to a main road and the rooms are a bit noisy. For a little higher price you can get much more in other hotels.

Review 20:The hotel is clean. Shower is good. Decent Indian cuisine. The staff is very responsive.

Review 21:The location, it was far from the city centre of Durham. And the breakfast, dont have many alternative meal to eat. Other is very good.

Review 22:i love the room, it was very clean. The staff is very kind. Everything is very good. i really recommend to stay here :))

Review 23:Nothing

Review 24:Very friendly staff. All areas very clean. Bar stocked with a wide selection of drinks. Dinner was first class, excellent food and very reasonably priced.

Review 25:Bedding - old, heavy duvet - far too warm for the season. No sound insulation - paper thin walls meant could hear everything that went on next door. Wifi password didn't work, but didn't pursue as I was going out. Shower riser bar not properly fixed so couldn't raise the shower head to a comfortable height - (couldn't report this at the time as no-one there in the morning when I checked out).

Review 26:Spotlessly clean, spacious room - obviously newly converted/decorated (in fact smelled strongly of fresh paint and bits of masking tape left on in places!). Nicely fitted bathroom. Comfortable bed.

Review 27:Rooms were small, dusty, cobwebs, opened the bathroom door and the plinth fell off under shower, toilet cistern dripped all night, ordered breakfast for 8am, place was locked up, no staff around, we left at 8.20am and had pre paid, wouldn't recommend overnight stay, other 'guests' were noisy, up down stairs til 5 am smoking, talking loudly, again no staff to to complain to.

Review 28:We invited friends to join us for a meal in the restaurant, nothing was too much trouble, food and service excellent

Review 29:The main thing that could do with fixing is the blinds in that room (make them cut out more light please), so that one doesn’t have to be disturbed by the security light coming on frequently.

Review 30:We were customers #1 in their brand new large room 15 (just converted from a conference room) in the barn/stable. Given its location on a main road off a bigger main road it was very quiet. I also thought the service was good: the staff were very helpful. I would definitely use it again if we needed to, although we would prefer the room we had which seemed much the nicer than the other one we were shown in the barn/stable (not shown in the main pub/inn building).

Review 31:The price didn't match the room if I was going again I wouldn't stop there at that price I think £25 for the night would be the limit I would pay for that room

Review 32:Staff very friendly. Quiet rooms in a small quiet village. Easy to get into Durham with a bus stop being straight outside the inn

Review 33:The parking arrangements were not do good - on tough ground to the side of the property - not secure or monitored.

Review 34:The staff could not be more helpful.

Review 35:Everything !!! From the very welcoming staff who very kindly organised for me to upgrade from a single to a double room , lovely clean very comfortable hotel , The food in the restaurant was delicious .

Review 36:It is over a pub, so can be a bit noisy until 11pm but having said that we didn't hear much over the weekend we were there

Review 37:Great staff, friendly, always happy to help and just generally has a nice feel about it. Good was good and plenty! There is a nice playground just opposite which went down a treat with our little girl.

Review 38:Bathrooms too small, breakfast dishes were unclean. Lipstick on fresh juice glasses. My wife does not wear lipstick . Staff late with breakfast after a time was set before hand.

Review 39:Wifi was excellent, bed was comfortable.

Review 40:Great reception all seemed good. Evening meal served by staff who don't care, brought the main out before the starter. When it arrived it was noted in front of me with no apology or an offer to keep my main in the oven whilst I ate the starter. Breakfast!!!! Charged for but isn't served until 8:30 not good. Paid for a family room and ended up in a double. No hot water for a bath in the morning and no answer on the phone. No check out just drop your keys in the box. On a positive the manager serving in the bar was great.

Review 41:The room was filthy. Still had yesterday's rubbish in the room. Carpet filthy. I used my towels to walk in carpet it was so bad. I don't usually complain so believe me me this is bad! Breakfast very basic. Nothing good about this place at all. I've bed. Travelling 5 weeks and this is the worst place I stayed in.

Review 42:Hallways and doors a bit shabby, also unavoidable Indian cooking smells in rooms.

Review 43:Rooms were large and reasonably comfortable, good WiFi, clean. Good parking. Friendly staff.

Review 44:It said it was 2.7 miles away from Bowburn hotel that's why we booked it but it was over 7 miles away so a bit expensive for taxis for the wedding we attended at Bowburn hotel

Review 45:Very comfortable beds and airy rooms. Our bathroom was stunningly new and modern. Nice flat TV screen in room. Great hospitality nice all rounder hotel only 4 miles from Durham city. It also has the bonus of an Indian restaurant but we only stayed the one night so didn't get the chance to try but menu looks fab. Continental breakfast was nice and fresh

Review 46:The accommodations are showing their age, and parts of the property remind one of a roadside motel, rather than an English inn.

Review 47:Croxdale is a little town about 4 miles outside Durham City. When Durham gets booked up, Croxdale isn't far to go. Very helpful staff.

Review 48:My room was a little small, but I saw others that were grander.

Review 49:The food I had one night in the Panesh restaurant was excellent. The staff were very helpful and tried hard to make the experience a good one.

Review 50:Breakfast was poor. Called continental, but only cereal, toast, juice, yogurts, supermarket buns/cakes,supermarket wrapped croissants/pain au chocolat and instant coffee/tea. Oh and some fruit. Shame really, as I'm sure they could do better breakfast. For example fresh croissants and fresh bread would be wonderful.

Review 51:Clean and comfy beds

Review 52:The staff were unattentive. Breakfast was served in the bar which I didn't like. We weren't offered a cooked breakfast and had to find our own way to the dining room in the evening. There was a Jacuzzi in the hotel but we were not offered the use of it.

Review 53:The room was a good size and the curry was delicious! There was onsight parking at the back and although it was near a busy road there wasn't too much noise. The location for travelling into Durham was very good, only 10 minutes from a Park and Ride.

Review 54:Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely Indian meal in the restaurant. We were able to leave the car in the car park and bus into Durham for auniversity open day.

Review 55:Thinking it was only 1.4miles from Durham to find it was over 4 miles, meant extra costs for taxis, buses etc.

Review 56:An adequate breakfast, room good size but very small bathroom.

Review 57:The hotel was spotlessly clean, the staff were very helpful and cheerful. The rooms were well equipped, the shower was hot. Breakfast was simple but substantial. The attached restaurant serves good food and has a varied menu. The Hotel is located in an area convenient for sight seeing in the Durham area.

Review 58:Good location- perfect for evening stroll in the country or daytime exploring in the nearby woods. Only 30 minute drive to Beamish museum. Good Indian restaurant attached to the pub with pleasant and attentive waiting staff. We didn't have breakfast because we were out before 9am when we stayed and they hadn't started serving it then. There was no noise from the pub after 11pm. I would stay here again and I would recommend it to friends and relatives.

Review 59:Bit haphazard. Heating not on/didn't work. No cosy touches in room.

Review 60:Staff very accommodating. Large room. Continental breakfast very basic but included properly ripe bananas!!

Review 61:Stayed two nights, surprised room wasn't serviced at all during our stay, not had that issue before, had to ask for tea, toilet paper etc evening of night 2. Decor a little tired, in that needs a bit of updating, clean good basic accommodation though.

Review 62:Friendly staff, nice restaurant attached.

Review 63:I was very pleased, the room was spacies and very clean. The bathroom is very small but clean, and the shower was brilliant. WiFi was fast. Staff was friendly. Very pleased with my stay, we didn't have breakfast so can't comment about that. I would recommend to anyone.

Review 64:Only booked this hotel as we have stayed here before and had used the jacuzzi, but unfortunately this time as we were checking in were told it was out of order with no sign of it being fixed during our stay.

Review 65:Room was basic but clean and adequate for our requirements. Enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant.

Review 66:Not impressed with India meal. Very expensive starter. Main meal was bland and I do better myself... but maybe the biriani was the wrong choice. Will test again and try something different.

Review 67:Great value

Review 68:Did not stay in the modern looking room shown on the website, but instead in the revamped cowshed at the rear - totally separate building and worn at best. Also no wifi and place soulless. Breakfast a joke and asked for a refund. No breakfast before 8.30am and when I did attempt to get into the main building it was all locked up. Such a shame as it has real potential.

Review 69:Walk in the nearby woods!

Review 70:Top staff, great room. Although we overlooked the road, the double-glazed windows made for a good night's sleep. Convenient 10-12 minute drive to the heart of Durham.

Review 71:Nothing. Great value for money

Review 72:The staff and family were so helpful and friendly. Lovely room and facilities. Breakfast was nice but some people might prefer a full English.

Review 73:Shower barely warm in the morning, reason given was that other people must have been showering at the same time. Not really an acceptable response when hot water is such a fundamental requirement of any hotel stay.

Review 74:Good location, on main bus route into Durham. Price favourable in comparison to other accommodation, even on a Saturday night. Rooms basic but clean and comfortable.

Review 75:The 'continental breakfast' was just too basic. For a few quid more some cold meats, cheeses and eggs would have been good.

Review 76:Owner and staff were terrific Rooms, beds, shower terrific Indian food terrific

Review 77:This Co.Durham inn has an Indian restaurant serving excellent Indian cuisine. The staff are very welcoming and attentive. The single bedrooms were a little cramped but comfortable, and adequate for a short stay.

Review 78:Booked last minute I didn't know what to expect but was well pleased. The staff and owner were very friendly and food and drink reasonable priced if I'm in the area again I'll stay here

Review 79:Room was very small. I was unaware at the time of booking that it was a pub/Indian resturant the choice of evening meall was limited to Indian cuisine

Review 80:Location. The staff was very friendly and welcomming.

Review 81:Continental breakfast consists of bowl of cereal, toast and a croissant, not very continental, also booking.com said hotel was 1.5 miles from Durham city centre was more close to 6 miles, so cost a fortune in taxi too and from Durha.

Review 82:Staff where really nice and food was delicious.

Review 83:Poor breakfast - wrapped croissants from co-op, boxed cereal, instant coffee, chocolate muller yoghurt, eaten in cold bar area with loud TV and flashing coloured lights!

Review 84:Large bedroom, comfy bed, clean and warm

Review 85:Expresso Machine not switched on in the morning (requires 30min to heat up) so only instant coffee! Family room (two doble beds) smelly bathroom (food smells) above main kitchen.

Review 86:the noise in the downstairs pub. there was no milk for tea, and everyone had left by 12am but I think this was something that may have been overlooked.

Review 87:the friendliness of staff the food was sublime the service provided by staff the purpose for our trip was over the new year weekend, so we weren't in the room most of the time. It's a short drive to Newcastle about 30 min, and about a 3 min to local 'corner' shop and another few min to next village, where you'll find an asda, co-op, banks etc.

Review 88:The only disappointment was the poor WiFi but considering the price one can't complain.

Review 89:The staff were always happy to help and always friendly. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable.

Review 90:We booked a family room as their was no double available, however when we were shown to our room the man asked which bed we would like to sleep in and when my boyfriend pointed to which one he removed all the bedding from the other bed which i didnt agree with because even though we werent sleeping in it we had payed for the full room so i would of liked the choice. Also when we booked the hotel it stated we could have breakfast between 8 and 9 but when we arrived the man said we had to have it by half eight at the latest so we didnt end up having our breakfast we had payed for.

Review 91:Me and my boyfriend came here for a weekend away and stayed the night. We were very impressed with our room as it was very clean and very well presented and the bed was extremely comfy and we had a great nights sleep with no sound distrubance as the hotel is in a quite spot, their is a road nearby but this seemed to be fairly quiet. We felt we had enough privacy in our room and we felt comfortable. Our bathroom was luxorious and very clean.

Review 92:Reception - non existant Bathroom - far too small This is definitely NOT an INN, more of an indian restaurant with rooms. Continental breakfast was poor for value and quality Further details if requested

Review 93:Location - bus/park and ride very close and reliable. Room, clean - no odours

Review 94:This hotel ticks all the boxes for me, and I use it everytime I'm working in the north east. It is in a good location, it has a well stocked bar, it has a fabulous restaurant with well trained friendly staff!

Review 95:Room was above kitchen so slight smell of onions. in the future maybe use more room freshners in both room and bathroom.

Review 96:very comfy beds, good size room (family room) and bathroom. Very good Indian Restaurant. Lots of accessable pug points. Room was facing the road but traffic noise was not noticable. Good bus service to Durham.

Review 97:The staff were very friendly and couldnt fault a thing about this hotel, the food was also great :) all in all a great place to stay which i would recommend to family and friends. Great value for money couldnt ask for more.

Review 98:Stayed 2 nights, room not cleaned. Lots of old cobwebs. Asked for extra pillows were given 2 each. That is not extra. No cooked breakfast! Cocoa Pops and fairy cakes do not constitute a continental breakfast. Noisy vent fan outside bedroom ran all night. Very disappointing. Wouldn't stay there again. No corner left uncut. Expensive.

Review 99:Room a good size. Easy to find. Parking okay.

Review 100:It's on a main road but not a problem. Double glazing keeps the notice out.

Review 101:Nice room, nice staff, ample parking. Cooked breakfast was not offered but the continental breakfast was fine with plenty of Orange juice, tea, coffee and toast. Satisfied with our stay. :)

Review 102:Woke once during night and was conscious of a loud 'humming' noise from a nearby room - sounded like a washing machine?

Review 103:Easy to find, plenty of parking, free WiFi, friendly staff, bed very comfortable - one of the best night's sleep I've ever had in a B&B.

Review 104:Really disappointed with the food. We were hoping for authentic Indian but got what seemed to have come out of packets. Not as good as take homebpacks from Tesco!!

Review 105:Staff were lovely and welcoming, but we got the impression they'd only been Inn Keepers a couple of weeks - a bit amateurish

Review 106:Not the type of property that deserve such a high rate. Very disappointed with booking. Always follow reviews and they are correct almost 90%. Not in this case.

Review 107:I was asked, on arrival, what time I required breakfast. I told the staff member 9.00am. I arrived at the bar for breakfast at 9.00am, waited until 0920 and left. AS I was packing my car a guy came up to me and begged me to come back inside for breakfast. Too little too late PS you owe me £5

Review 108:Some traffic noise at night could bother a light sleeper.

Review 109:Excellent Indian restaurant on site. Staff friendly and helpful. Short drive to Durham. Off street parking. Room clean and comfortable.

Review 110:Hair in the shower There was no sauna which was promissed Old and cheap furniture The powerpoint didn't let go my adaptor so they removed it with a screwdriver and then it was broken. They hadn't a solution but they said they had to call an electricien because of this I had to remove my luggage while I was having breakfast cause they want to clean the room No real coffee It was to far away from the center, 8 km.

Review 111:The soapbottles Tea in the room Free wifi

Review 112:Croxdale Inn is not in Durham proper, but several miles (don't recall the distance exactly) from the city limits. The inn does having a restaurant but we dined in central Durham before leaving to find Croxdale Inn.

Review 113:Croxdale Inn provides lodging that is a good value in comparison to other accommodations in Durham proper; The proprietor and bartender were very friendly and accommodating; The room/bath was basic but clean and in good condition; and The bar/pub was good - with a good selection of ales and friendly locals with whom to chat.

Review 114:It was a rough-looking pub on a busy suburban road, when the website made it look like a country inn. No good beer, and no spice in the pub Indian restaurant's food. Our requested non-meat breakfast was strange - one egg, one mushroom, one slice of tomato. Awful coffee.

Review 115:Staff were friendly, room was very clean.

Review 116:Wish room had been a little bit bigger but otherwise nothing really.

Review 117:Room was small but clean with all the essentials required for an overnight stop. I found the shower easy to use and was grateful for a warm shower which was right I needed.

Review 118:The bath looked like it could have done with a wipe down, and there were dirty marks on the bannister. Maybe when they get a little more established, they will have professional cleaners. Having said that, it would not put me off staying there again.

Review 119:The location is great, it's in a really quiet spot just off the main road about 6 miles from the city of Durham. There was plenty of room to park in its own private car park to the rear. The owner and his staff made us feel very welcome, gave us all the information we needed and actually showed us to our room instead of just directing us. The owner also helped carry our luggage to our first floor room, and took the heaviest bag. The restaurant is also excellent and competitively priced. I would stay there again if ever I was back in the area. Well done Guys!!

Review 120:The breakfast was too minimal to be acceptable; a tiny choice of small cereal packets and tasteless jams in miniscule containers.

Review 121:We were astonished by the quality of our dinner, which ranks as one of the best we had in UK restaurants. When we arrived we thought: Oh bother, another "Indian" dinner, but, No, this time it was really good Indian food! The owner has good reason to be proud of his kitchen staff.

Review 122:nothing really but it wold have been nice to have fresh croissants not pre packed long life ones for breakfast.

Review 123:The staff were friendly. The room was small but clean and tidy. We enjoyed a meal in the attached Indian restaurant.

Review 124:WiFi unobtainable ! My Single room being out in the forecourt was affected by the noise of people coming in & out of the building especially on an evening.

Review 125:Location great easy to find & car parking facilities good. Helpful staff. Clean room. I would recommend to Couples as they would be in the main building which are nicer, bigger & quieter rooms.

Review 126:Very welcoming hosts who were careful to arrange secure spaces for our bikes in the building. They also put on the Tour de France highlights for us whilst we had a drink after arriving late. Excellent value for money and genuinely kind people.

Review 127:Room was not serviced daily although someone had been in and given us another pillow which was great but not requested. WiFi did not work in rooms

Review 128:Very polite caring and attentive staff

Review 129:Location was ok for us as we were travelling in a car. They provided meals and a bar and there are also other places within walking distance. Very friendly helpful staff

Review 130:Staff were very helpful and accommodating. Rooms and dining area etc were all very pleasant and clean. Staff were friendly and could not do enough for you.
