Reviews for Hôtel De France

Review 1:Decor was a bit over powering

Review 2:Location was excellent, across the road from Palace, car parking on the street right in front of hotel. Restaurants close by. We were upgraded to a triple room, very spacious & comfortable, staff very friendly

Review 3:Noisy generator outside window so had to keep window closed and air conditioning broken in room so uncomfortable night. Also dinner in restaurant poor.

Review 4:Parking is bit of a chore, but thatgoes for any hotel you stay at. We had a little problem with the heat in our room, but Camile, at the front desk was very, very patient and super helpful until we git the problem solved.

Review 5:Just a two minute walk to Palace at Versailles. Close to many restaurants. Excellent front desk manager, Camile, was super helpful.

Review 6:The girl at the desk was outstanding as was the location. She gave us clear directions and good advice on several questions. We even found good parking by the hotel. We were right across the street from Versailles.

Review 7:Location for Versailles perfect. Close to restaurants shops. Hotel staff very helpful and the hotel is beautifully decorated. However the room is one of the smallest I have stayed in in a very long time. Compensated by the surprisingly spacious and well equipped bathroom.

Review 8:some old funitures can be exchanged

Review 9:booked the Family room, actually two separated rooms, very good! located beside the Palace, free parking on weekend beside the Hotel!

Review 10:The hotel is in need of some redecorating, the breakfast didn't offer a very good variety and we had issues using the wifi. Logged in once and never could get it to work again.

Review 11:Loved the location, convenience and really good air conditioning. The staff was friendly and helpful and having the bar/restaurant next door was great.

Review 12:not recommended as base camp for visiting Paris, limited bus/RER access after visiting Paris at night.

Review 13:Faces Chateau de Versailles, great location for visiting the Versailles location. Nicely appointed

Review 14:parking difficult to find and work out, super busy area. wifi worked sporadically. Hotel facilities in room good but (eg toilet got them to clean again) bit dirty.

Review 15:staff especially front desk nice although seemed very confused about us asking for a top sheet (it was hot in room and freezing with a/c on). location is amazing right near Versailles Palace - 5 mins walk. Breakfast and dinner both tasty.

Review 16:We waited 15 minutes in reception waiting to check in, rang the bell a few times and finally walked through to rhe bar & restaurant next door to find somebody.

Review 17:The room was spacious with a large, clean, bathroom. The location is great - 5 minutes walk from the train station & can see the gates of Versailles from the hotel. There are a few bars and restaurants nearby, and many more near the Cathedral which is only 5-10 minutes walk. We really enjoyed visiting this nice little town, in addition to seeing the palace & gardens.

Review 18:their Internet was not working during the time we stayed. The concierge didn't much care about it and told us that this is a common problem and it doesn't work for him as well and hasn't done any effort to fix it. For $200/night hotel you should have a better service

Review 19:very nice location, just in front of the Versailles Palace

Review 20:The beauty and comfort of the rooms were excellent. We had the 3-person suite which was perfect for our family. Also, the location - near the Palace and next to restaurants was excellent.

Review 21:wifi dropped out at night / overnight. Noise from kitchen / staff court yard was a bit much at night. Not the hotels fault, but car parking is limited & expensive in Versailles. Do not take a car if you don't have to.

Review 22:Good location as walking distance to chateau, train station, tourist office and restaurants.

Review 23:The night recepcionist: he was rude, useless, careless and totally ineficient. TheWifi, it simple didn't exist, well, except for the hall. The damaged bathroom: The toilet tank did not work properly, you can flush 10 times you have same problems...disgusting. The furniture: Old and tatty The phone did not work and the option recepcionist gave me was to stood up there in the hall and having the phone call there... and please, carefull with everything, don't sit, don't use, don't breathe...******* The bed noises: Not comfortable. The price: Waaay to expensive.

Review 24:The daylight recepcionist

Review 25:Extremely convenient for visiting the chateau of Versailles. An exceptionally helpful receptionist, who gave excellent advice on parking. Lots of good restaurants nearby.

Review 26:It was really all good.

Review 27:I arrived later than anticipated and was nonetheless warmly received. Courteous, intelligent teception and generous hearts. It was a quick but happy stay!

Review 28:Lack of air conditioning. It was in the mid 30s C outside when we were there and it was even hotter in the hotel. We were told that it cost more to heat the hotel than to cool it down so the owner had said that the air conditioning was not to be turned on yet. This impacted on our whole stay as we didn't sleep well and then were really tired the following days. If only that air conditioning had been switched on!

Review 29:Loved the location. Beautiful old, rambling hotel.

Review 30:Big disappointment that the AC was not connected yet, so really had hard time sleeping due to temperature in the room and the smoking waiters (the window faces courtyard shared with the restaurant)

Review 31:Great location and very appropriate décor.

Review 32:The Hotel is unable to offer parking. The public car parks locally get very busy/full due to visitors to the Chateau and on-street parking is scarce. We drove around the area for 50 minutes trying to find a spot.

Review 33:Charming 'old school' French décor, extremely comfortable bed and very helpful staff.

Review 34:The restaurant staff were resistant to dealing with us when we went there on two occasions for coffee with the intention of booking dinner. Just not interested in spite of one of our party being a French speaker. Bad attitude, bad manners. We would have Liked to have coffee facilities in our rooms instead of having to leave the hotel for coffee.

Review 35:We all loved Camille and Tania, the super friendly, Super helpful and efficient receptionists. Multi skilled and multi tasking girls. The building has a history dating back to Louis XIV which was interesting.

Review 36:No tea making facilities in the room, and no express tea and coffee service for early starters. Just one gripe was a bit over zealous with pushing the breakfast but minor point really.

Review 37:Camille the receptionist is an asset, the level of help and advice was second to none. i also got great wine advice from the gentleman receptionist, unfortunately didnt get his name.

Review 38:The location is next door to the chateau and I think the closer you stay to a travel feature the poorer the facility. This being said the service in the morning was completely the opposite, but too late.

Review 39:Close to the Chateaux de Versailles

Review 40:Breakfast was expense 13 euros each and very limited, cheaper to use the little french cafe further down. The attached restaurant was also expense and quality was poorest compared to all the restaurants we ate in on our stay.

Review 41:Location was excellent, decor and rooms were warm and inviting and prettily decorated. If you drove like us car could be parked very close by

Review 42:evening meal in restaurant was poor. Room was "tired",bathroom past its sellby date! Hairdryer on wall as per 1980's.Perhaps we had been given a basic room.

Review 43:Location

Review 44:It would have been good to have had kettle/mugs/tea & coffee facilities in the room, for the occasional drink.

Review 45:Style of the building and it's furnishings/decor. It's very convenient location

Review 46:breakfast could be better, no coffee/tea facilities or bottled water in room

Review 47:location, good size room, character of hotel, helpful reception, quick & easy

Review 48:No tea & coffee facilities in room which is very common in most hotels. More than just the BBC World Service in english on the TV would be a good idea as we do not speak French!

Review 49:Could not get any nearer for walking to Palace of Versailles - less than 5 minutes walk.

Review 50:There were no drawers or wardrobe, just a bar to hang clothes, I had to live out of my suitcase. The water was sometimes not that hot. Breakfast was poor, 13 euros for a bit of baguette, some croissants, individual packet cheese, yoghurts fruit juice and coffee/tea

Review 51:The room had a Comfortable bed, staff were great, it was old and quirky, you get 15% off of food next door, it was warm and cosy.

Review 52:Lack of weekend dry cleaning. Waiting in the lobby for reception staff to show up.

Review 53:Excellent location and very helpful staff. Lovely baroque setting with uniquely dressed rooms.

Review 54:We checked into a room that had a leak in the bathroom ceiling. We werepromptly relocated to another room with no view and much smaller. Thehotel was less than a quarter booked, so I believe we should have notbeen downgraded due to their problem.

Review 55:Location was great. Also restaurants close to hotel.

Review 56:Noise. Heavy "toilet" smell from the bathroom sink. Electronics problems - could not program the electronics keys to our rooms.

Review 57:The restaurant in the same building. Free WiFi with good bandwidth.

Review 58:No hot water! Apparently there is a 15% discount on food at the adjoined restaurant but no one asked us so we did not benefit from this (food not brilliant as it transpired). No kettle in room - minor inconvenience, but if you have no hot water it's significant!

Review 59:Location perfect for the chateau and access to the town, and close enough to the Rive Gauche station.

Review 60:The room was advertised as a suite but was two tiny rooms connected by a bath. Carpeting was threadbare, everything else was outdated. Two couples, but no where to sit down. Noe seating in the lobby or elsewhere in the hotel.

Review 61:The location was great, partially compensated for small rooms, uncomfortable beds, and inadequate breakfast. Linens were clean. Room was dark and warm. Restaurant next door had a great breakfast for less than the Hotel.

Review 62:We were greeted in the reception area by Cami displaying the most gorgeous smile that France had to offer. For most of my family, this was their first trip to France and she was incredibly helpful and informative. Along with the excellent staff, the location of the hotel is also perfect and within walking distance of the Palace gates. The beds are soft, the rooms are clean and spacious by European standards, great restaurant downstairs. What more could you ask for?

Review 63:Well situated for concerts and opera performances at Chateau de Versailles. Quiet hotel with friendly staff. Good restaurant next door with discount for residents of hotel.

Review 64:breakfast was too basic ( for €13/person one might expect more) In the lobby we ha to wait every time we came in, no one around even after ringing the bell. No coffee or thee in the room.

Review 65:A nice location, a nice room and a really fancy bathroom.

Review 66:Nothing - was as expected. Very nice.

Review 67:Room was tastefully decorated. Couldn't beat the location, right opposite the Chateau. Friendly and helpful staff. Restaurants, creperies, boutiques and market place close by. Versailles train station approx 10 mins walk away.

Review 68:Absolutely nothing.

Review 69:Absolutely everything. The location could not be better, literally right next to the Chateau de Versailles. Immaculately clean and perfectly maintained. Comfortable room with extra pillows, blankets, and charm. But the very best: the STAFF is incredibly kind and helpful. And generous. No problem left unsolved, not that there were any problems.

Review 70:Proximity to the Chateau de Versailles Hotel is in a historic house ( Prime Minister's residence during Louis XIV reign) Excellent and very helpful staff with a great restaurant .

Review 71:very little

Review 72:Location is amazing. Historic building with loads of personality. Staff very helpful. Hotel's own restaurant next door is very good AND you get 15% discount.

Review 73:Nothing not to like - ticked all the boxes.

Review 74:You could not stay closer to the Chateaux! Brilliant location. Hotel itself was comfortable and clean. If I visit Versaille again - I would definitely stay here. I highly recommend it.

Review 75:Location - no parking not even to unload! However the manager did allow us to use the hotels on-street parking slot after we checked-in. Vey helpful for a couple of retirees.

Review 76:Location within sight of Palace. Proximity to local cafés - recommend the Blue Roi a few doors down. Easy ish stroll to market area and many cafés/ bars.

Review 77:- Nope

Review 78:Location is perfect, you would sleep closer to Versailles Chateau only if you could sleep in it. Staff is professional and do speak english. Room was charming and you can really enjoy historical atmosphere.

Review 79:The wifi was good for the laptop but slow for my iPad.

Review 80:The young ladies were very helpful and lovely. One suggested a restaurant that was very tasty and pleasant. The decor was beautiful all part of the Versailles experience.

Review 81:The bed was extremely comfortable and the breakfast, with lots of coffee and fruit juice, was fine. Receptionist was very helpful and checking out could not have been quicker or easier.

Review 82:"quiet" room on side of restaurant kitchen, so instead of traffic we heard the kitchen workers all night till they closed, after 11pm

Review 83:location couldn't get any better, literally across from the chateau; 10min from center of town with restaurants, market, etc.; they will hold your luggage at the front desk all day if you need them to

Review 84:No Parking. AC condensation leaked through ceiling/walls.

Review 85:Location- right outside Versailles to beat the crowds (and we were able to walk around the gardens the night before without crowds)

Review 86:Friendly and knowledgeable staff. The location cannot be beat as it is near the palace. Had no problems with the Wi-Fi and the connection remained well through-out the entire hotel. Would visit again.

Review 87:The breakfast is not worth 13 Eur. One type of bread. No meat. No eggs. Just some butter and jam and 2-3 prepacked cheese choices. Supermarket pancakes. The staff means well but there is a strong language barrier (it was very difficult to communicate with them in English). Also, one staff member may have been the most helpless person I have yet to meet. She didn't know how to print a boarding pass, nor could she add the institution's name to my invoice. She meant well and was nice, but utterly helpless. Also, the receptionist also takes care of the breakfast area. It's too much for a single person to handle. Hire more staff and offer a decent breakfast or none at all. I had a room facing the street. Very noisy, could barely manage to get some sleep.

Review 88:Location is the best - right next to the palace and walking distance to the train station. Room is decent but low on furniture (no shelves). Bathroom was recently renovated and looked great, with marble on the floor and walls. Also quite large. Pretty clean and they changed the towels even though I did not place them on the floor. The wifi worked well on my phone. Even managed to do some video-conferences on Skype.

Review 89:No mini bar

Review 90:Location & prettiness of room decor

Review 91:The breakfast

Review 92:Location couldn't be better for visiting versailles. Staff were so helpful and friendly

Review 93:Very near Versailles palace. Car park outside the hotel. Receptionist speaks very good English and helpful.

Review 94:Really bad smell from toilet. No view from window.

Review 95:Location was fantastic, Family room was good size.

Review 96:Rooms, Staff, Food

Review 97:The general decoration and comfort. Very quiet. and perfectly located. Staff helpful and friendly.

Review 98:Breakfast not included. Very expensive for a typical French breakfast. No hotel parking.

Review 99:Location location location

Review 100:Nothing.

Review 101:Location is great and you get a 20% voucher of the restaurant next door.

Review 102:So close to the palace. Stylish decor.

Review 103:Gentleman at the desk was very helpful. Our room was large with a nice bath. Breakfast was a bit pricey. Great location across from Versaille palace.

Review 104:Excellent position of hotel for chateau and local restaurants. Very friendly reception staff, knowledgable , caring, professional and very helpful.

Review 105:Location! Wow, right next door to the Palace of Versailles!

Review 106:Location, helpful staff, old-world charm.

Review 107:The morning staff was great. The evening staff was less friendly.

Review 108:Bad pillows, room not clean enough.

Review 109:Great view, friendly staff

Review 110:Staff (Camille and Terence) went the extra mile to attend to special needs

Review 111:breakfast was very poor

Review 112:rooms are very cute and comfortable

Review 113:My room did not have an AC

Review 114:The location and bed!

Review 115:The staff was so helpful and friendly. They went out of their way to make sure we had a pleasant stay.

Review 116:Nothing

Review 117:Location, ambience, staff

Review 118:This was an old building so the facilities were not good

Review 119:Location of the hotel

Review 120:parking, parking, parking

Review 121:location, location, location

Review 122:Wonderful old townhouse facing Versailles, friendly staff, good Wi-Fi, and good A/C, and a good price.

Review 123:WiFi is weak in the rooms, great reception in the lobby.

Review 124:Close to the Chateau, good, room size, well laid out bathroom. The staff was very helpful.

Review 125:Location , staff and the room and bath were very comfortable and nice
