Reviews for The Beacons Guest House
Review 1:Very friendly and helpful staff. I left my coat and keys behind and they contacted me straight away to sort postage. Good value, no frills B & B. Walking distance of Brecon town and great location to Pen-y-Van, only 10 minutes drive from hotel to Storey Arms centre.
Review 2:Why is TV located behind the bed. You can't watch while your in bed. Never seen this before, inconvenient.
Review 3:Very clean and friendly staff and excellent breakfast.
Review 4:There is off-street parking, but it is extremely difficult to find. Even after parking elsewhere and getting directions from the desk, I still had trouble finding it in the dark. And there is virtually no on-street parking in which to park and inquire.
Review 5:The breakfast was fantastic!! The best I've ever had at a B&B rate! The rooms were small and basic but comfortable.
Review 6:Decor is a little tired (but clean). Quality is variable. Superior room is not especially 'superior' (but priced ok). Bed was too small for a superior room and not a king size as expected.
Review 7:However it's a great location, an easy walk into town, quiet rooms, loads of parking, secure bike storage, tasty breakfast.
Review 8:Perfect little place to stay minutes away from the centre of town. Very clean and well presented rooms, can't fault the price against its competition.
Review 9:The room had a bath, as advertised but each time I used it the hot water ran only barely warm. It was impossible to have a proper hot bath. The water was actually quite cold within a very short space of time after running the bath. The shower over bath was functional and did run hot enough but the bathroom units had an old fashioned, poor quality and rather tired look and feel. Definitely could do with modernising and better system installed.
Review 10:Arrived at 12:00 noon and didn't expect to be able to check until until 4pm but reception staff allowed me to check in within 30 mins which was unexpected and appreciated.
Review 11:not long enough for breakfast. residents gathering underneath other residents windows smoking and talking out loud out the back!!!!
Review 12:comfy bed good breakfast
Review 13:Not secure back door open all the time. Noisy no soundproofing comings and goings all night. Very small room. The most uncomfortable bed ever, with a waterproof mattress cover!!! OVERPRICED
Review 14:Staff friendly, food ok and ensuite functional
Review 15:we were not impressed with our on-suite bathroom sliding door, it was badly fitted, big gap both sides.
Review 16:The twin beds were comfortable , and the breakfasts I cannot fault , a good menu, and the staff were friendly and obliging, well done.. will go there again.
Review 17:The bed was too small and uncomfortable.
Review 18:Very friendly welcome, good location. We came with bikes and were able to store them in the barn to the rear. Building largely unspoilt with old doors and fireplaces.
Review 19:Don't think they have the facilities to cook many breakfasts at once so was quite a wait
Review 20:Great location, staff, cleanliness, good value, plenty of free parking
Review 21:lots of notes everywhere saying what you can and cannot do, electric kettle had to be put on floor as lead didn't reach, funny toilet made a lot of noise. to early for a cooked breakfast.
Review 22:Accommodation very basic. Room was very small, but OK. Washing/toilet facilities just about adequate.
Review 23:The breakfast was wonderful Worth staying just for the breakfast
Review 24:No real issues but bedroom decor and furniture dated and "tired", as was the exterior which wasn't that inviting. Kettle flex so short we had to use kettle on the floor!
Review 25:Excellent off road parking.
Review 26:Very pleasant staff. B and B was old but quaint. Not the place to stay if you want new and modern. Made to feel welcome and left alone which was lovely. Very accommodating with an early breakfast.
Review 27:There was no key given for the front door which tended to be locked quite early ( about 10-30 pm ) and the only entrance then was around the back through the car park through an unlocked door. This didn't seem very secure as it allowed anybody to walk around the corridors.
Review 28:The breakfast.
Review 29:Very run down. Needs a huge makeover. Our room was clean but unfinished, poorly furnished and bathroom was very inadequate.
Review 30:Location. Handy to Brecon Beacons. Easy and free parking
Review 31:The pillows were very hard. Could not stop the shower flooding the bathroom floor.
Review 32:Good location, friendly staff, liked 'window' seat and wooden shutters. Room very good size.
Review 33:The decor is dated but perfectly adequate.
Review 34:We had a spacious and quiet room which I believe was a 'superior room' The staff were pleasant and welcoming on our late evening arrival. Early cooked breakfast on the weekend very nice.
Review 35:Not worth the money! Our first impressions of the whole place was disappointing- it looked very tired and the two rooms we reserved smelt damp and musty. We had three uncomfortable, sleepless nights due to the worn out springs on the mattress and divan. The second night we moved the mattress to the floor in hope of a better night's sleep but without any luck. The main door was locked at 10.30- no one was given a front door key we had to enter through the back door which was kept open all night-so much for security. The room had tasteless painted furniture to give it an update. The shower screen glass could have been cleaner. It's a shame-the place has so much potential but is definitely overpriced -wished I'd gone to a Travel lodge-at least you know what to expect.
Review 36:The people were lovely and the breakfasts were good. Free parking.
Review 37:The room was rather small and in need of redecoration. The en suite had a wobbly ill-fitting sliding door and the shower unit seemed to be held in place by by brown parcel tape.
Review 38:A short walk over the bridge got us into the centre of Brecon. The guest house had ample free parking at the back. We had a friendly welcome and breakfast was good.
Review 39:1 week here with an excellent breakfast every morning, coffee/tea facilities in a very comfortable room and extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff.
Review 40:- we were cycling for charity from Dublin to Berlin, the property accepted our late arrival and were extremely friendly and helpful with everything we needed - tasty breakfast - very nice rooms which match the historical city climate
Review 41:Its a proper guest house with quirky furniture and sloping floors. Everything was clean and comfortable and I had a really good sleep. The breakfast was excellent
Review 42:Rooms tired and a bit grubby. Noise kept was awake from adjacent room. No in room WiFi.
Review 43:Location to town centre and river was great. Breakfast was okay. Plenty of Free Parking.
Review 44:It was all a bit dowdy and in need of a facelift.
Review 45:On the road to the Brecon Beacons and out of a dreary run down town with barely a place to get a decent meal.
Review 46:Large private car park, a friendly welcome and a lovely old building. Its a proper guest house so you get quaint furniture, sloping floors and tea and coffee in your room. It was warm, comfortable and everything worked well. The cooked breakfast was lovely and the bacon was the best I think I have ever had.
Review 47:beds were awful and asked for extra breakfast as i paid for a double room for 2 and 1 of the group could not make it and got laughed at. and no reduction for this either. car park is awful and covered in debris. ended up with a puncture that is costing £145 to replace tyre
Review 48:breakfast passable.
Review 49:Walls separating rooms were not very soundproof but often the case with older properties where larger rooms have been divided.
Review 50:The smoked salmon and scrabbled egg breakfast
Review 51:The bed was very uncomfortable. It needed new frames and mattresses.
Review 52:Lovely owners. Very welcoming even though they were busy. Made breakfast for us early as requested.
Review 53:Wifi is only available in the common area which is ok but not ideal.
Review 54:B&B is in a quaint old building run by a nice local family. Lovely cooked breakfast in the morning.
Review 55:Accommodation in our room was a bit cosy, otherwise all was fine. Be aware that it is a small establishment without 24 hour service.
Review 56:Great hospitality, good location, warm and comfortable. Breakfast is freshly cooked to order and very good.
Review 57:Nothing.
Review 58:The bedroom (8) was particularly warm and cosy. It had such a homely atmosphere we could stay in all day, but we had to visit a few places and walk up Pen-Y-Fan during the 3 days we were there.
Review 59:Beds were not that comfortable but we. We're both 6'2" and given what we paid this is not a criticism, just a comment.
Review 60:This was perfect location. Carol was very helpful on email with enquires etc. Breakfast was excellent could not fault it. Facilities were very clean which was very important as it was shared bathroom on second floor. Would stay again.
Review 61:No welcome, had to call owners to come down and let us in. Really cold (stayed in Feb and heating was switched off during the day). Uncomfortable bed, rock hard. Average breakfast.
Review 62:Nice big room. Great location. Reasonable price. Free parking.
Review 63:For the price, I couldn't fault it.
Review 64:Owners & staff were friendly and helpful. Single woman on my own, but felt like family! Room and shared areas were clean and in good shape... I was really surprised considering the price. Quick walk into town and short drive to all things local to see. Parking included too! My room was on the main road, but heard no noise. I needed to use the breakfast room for business and they were helpful and gave me free tea all day - a big thank you :)
Review 65:Waiting to be let in on arrival because host was out back having a fag. Dirty cup in room. Freezing bathroom. Cold coffee on second morning. 'off' smoked salmon served for breakfast.
Review 66:Comfy bed
Review 67:Stayed 1 night, and the room had everything we needed & was very comfortable. Breakfast was good & the staff were very welcoming. Will book again when next visiting the Brecons
Review 68:Needed a light to show you the way in from the car park which in the winter is in complete darkness and the back door was hard to find. No wifi in any of the rooms. Superior room had neither internet or hair dryer and the decoration was very old.
Review 69:Staff were lovely, any issues were quickly resolved. Good location, big car park. Wifi available in the breakfast room. Standard double room good for the price.
Review 70:Needs a new comfy mattress .
Review 71:Said exactly what it delivered, a really good value B&b with friendly staff. Easy location for the town. Breakfast was scrummy after a NYE night out!!!! Thank you...
Review 72:TV size could be bit larger. Only 15''. This is kids complaint, not mine :-)
Review 73:Very nice and welcome staff. The location of the hotel is just right to the bridge and the river. The town center is 5 min. walk. There is own parking on the back of the hotel.
Review 74:shower room was a little bit cold in the mornings - but other than that it was grand
Review 75:The location was excellent, breakfast was good and was flexible for me on timing, wifi worked in my room and the folks who ran the place were very friendly
Review 76:One bedside lamp was not working but that is a very small criticism
Review 77:The price was very good and the staff were courteous and helpful. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was well cooked and plentiful.
Review 78:Room was a little dated but did the job. We did not stay in the main building.
Review 79:Ideally located for Brecon town centre and the local walks/Beacons. Friendly owners and superb breakfast. Easy parking.
Review 80:beds very uncomfortable and in the family room the single beds were very noisy/squeaky shower dirty. dated..
Review 81:the scenery around the b and b was very pretty. good breakfast
Review 82:Located near the centre of Brecon. The staff were wonderfully friendly on arrival and looked after us well. The room was cosy and clean, and not your standard "clinical" looking hotel room. We felt really at home.
Review 83:Needed wax earplugs for traffic in morning but I am a light sleeper and once inserted not a problem
Review 84:Very welcoming hosts Excellent breakfast The house feels lived in, is historic, and has a lovely warm atmosphere Great location for walkng into town and driving out to Brecon Beacons
Review 85:On a negative, this guest house didn't allow dogs. My sleep was also terrible whilst there. The bed wasn't very comfortable & I had a bit of a strange experience of a supernatural kind.
Review 86:I was really impressed by the attentiveness of the only member of staff I had any dealings with. I had emails prior to arrival since I was going to arrive late evening with clear directions to my room. Plus, since I was going to be heading out before breakfast I was provided with the basics so I could have a little something before I left for my walking/exploring. This 1 member of staff seemed to be dealing with guests, managing the office, showing people to their tables at breakfast and cooking the breakfast.
Review 87:Wonderful warm welcome, lovely room . Perfect for Mrs and I. Breakfast was very nice and presented well. Great location for walking into Brecon which was only 2 mins away. Great stay.
Review 88:The room was cramped. The ensuite shower had a sliding door that did not close completely and so it lacked privacy.
Review 89:The room was clean. The breakfast was good
Review 90:The noise from the road
Review 91:A very convenient B&B near the town centre that offered great value for money. Lovely staff. A great breakfast with a very wide choice to suit all requirements.
Review 92:no all good. have used this guesthouse over the years. would like a recommended list of dinner locations rather than location. had a bad lamb gutted.
Review 93:access into Brecon, secure parking, Breakfast
Review 94:We couldn't have the full English on the first morning as we were told it was too early (07:00) which was a shame as we needed to rise early for a long beacon beacons walk to raise money for the mountain rescue. Although there was bread for toast, juice, cereal and instant coffee or tea. On the second night planned roadworks took place until early morning which may have been a deciding factor had I have known that they were to be taking place outside our window. However I was extremely tired from 20 mile walk so I subsequently fell asleep shortly after midnight.
Review 95:We were warmly welcomed by a friendly staff member who helped us find what we needed around town. The room was small but adequate and the shared shower and bathroom were clean.
Review 96:Limited wifi...not in room but owners say that this is coming. Bit of a walk late night to get in via car park at back.
Review 97:Good range of food options at breakfast; comfy bed with plenty of pillows. Help with local info and my medical needs.
Review 98:For the price and level of service, there's no complaints.
Review 99:A fair price, generous breakfast, nice staff, great location, parking for cars, great to travel on a budget or with friends.
Review 100:no complaints - if you are looking for basic accomodations like I was
Review 101:old building basic but clean and functing familities friendly staff car parking
Review 102:Wifi is not available in the rooms, only downstairs near reception or in the dining room. This makes it difficult particularly if making Skype calls.
Review 103:Whilst the guest house has the modern facilities expected, it still has it's old worlde charm. Staff are friendly and helpful and the stay was enjoyable.
Review 104:Thin walls. Didnt sleep very well as the guests next to our room talked quite often in the middle of the night and very early in the morning.
Review 105:Clean. Breakfast was nice.
Review 106:we were not able to use the front entrance as we had to rely on being buzzed in by intercom and quite often there was no-one there, which meant walking round the block to the back door. Although it was August, the place felt quite cold & unwelcoming. the bar advertised on the website didn't appear to exist.
Review 107:the breakfast options were very good. the service was friendly and prompt, our room was clean but cramped with an unnecessary large (broken) chair.
Review 108:Room was very cramped with little space to unpack. Room was not very well cleaned with accumulated dust in various locations. Breakfast services was very hit and miss, depending on how many people needed to be served. Had to wait 45 mins one morning.
Review 109:Good location for getting to the Brecon Beacons, and for going into Brecon for restaurants.
Review 110:Nothing - it was all good
Review 111:We came for a funeral of a close family relative. The staff were so sympathetic and helpful that it made a time which for us was so difficult , so much easier. The breakfast was lovely, particularly the smoked salmon and scrambled egg. It was great having free parking so near the river and town centre. The room was spacious with a lovely homely old fashioned decor in keeping with the area. We would stay there again.
Review 112:Very friendly staff, the entrance to the hotel is welcoming , the garden looked wonderful and colourful, and a fair price for the room, the breakfast with the variety of fruit was a lovely surprise. My husband always has a full English no matter where we go and he said that the breakfast he had that morning was the best he had had in ages.
Review 113:Room did smell a little damp, probably because it was an old building but it was clean and there was no visible signs of damp.
Review 114:Lovely big family with large shower room. Breakfast options were excellent and staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 115:Corridors and entrance had a bit of a scruffy disorganised feel (seemed a bit like a hostel) Didn't like the way entrance was always via the back door when there was a front door but only which you could leave the building by. Museli was like cardboard.
Review 116:Our room and ensuite was excellent value: large and clean. Breakfast of smoked haddock and poached egg was excellent. Ample parking at rear of building
Review 117:We had rooms overlooking the road - there was quite a lot of noise late at night from people walking past and talking very loudly. Also traffic noise in the morning - didn't bother me but did disturb my father who isn't used to it
Review 118:Friendly welcome, very clean rooms, good shower, separate loo (we shared a bathroom on the top floor); tasty and plentiful breakfast. We had breakfast in the front room which was bright and pleasant. Lots of off-road parking which was great.
Review 119:Nothing really, though it was good value for money.
Review 120:This is in a really great position close to the center of Brecon and has ample parking to the rear. Friendly, helpful staff, good breakfast and comfy bedrooms. Really good value for money.
Review 121:It was what we expected - did what it said on the tin!
Review 122:All our other friends stayed in places with no parking. Had to usr the 4 hour max car parks. 5 mins walk to the centre.
Review 123:WiFi connection was horrible in the room and not much better in the guest lobby.
Review 124:The staff was very helpful and informative on local attractions and transportation options. The breakfast was superb.
Review 125:Wifi only available on ground floor.
Review 126:Very friendly & helpful staff member who not only checked us in but was also our breakfast waiter and cook. Please pass our appreciation on to him.
Review 127:perhaps another tv channel or two would have been nice -
Review 128:I had a double ensuite room in colours kind to the eyes - spacious and well furnished - comfortable - nice for a long stay specially as I spent 16 nights . the manager rob was a very sweet and helpful boy and the owners friendly
Review 129:Bathroom slightly tired -- but this is only to be expected in a busy and successful B&B. No lounge -- to meet other guests, read newspapers etc. Access to wi-fi a little complicated. Also, newcomers to Brecon should be warned that it's not the best place to get an evening meal: pubs stop serving at 3.00 p.m., and even the chippy closed early!
Review 130:Very easy to find; very easy to park; warm welcome; very convenient location; comfortable room; excellent breakfast.
Review 131:The bed was a little hard and lumpy.
Review 132:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and tidy and matched the style of the house. Breakfast was good and there was a choice. Access was easy and flexible. Staff were accommodating and available when needed.
Review 133:n/a
Review 134:Early breakfast. Early checkout.
Review 135:Location good. Breakfast hot, tasty. Nice and clean.
Review 136:Location, good room very spacious. Excellent breakfast with a choice of 4. Friendly staff.
