Reviews for Abergavenny Hotel

Review 1:A fabulous and welcoming hotel with excellent staff and a good location. We loved the eclectic design of the space and the real fire on a cold wet weekend in December. Breakfast was continental with plenty to choose from and for the evening there is a great selection of cocktails.

Review 2:no proper king size duvets or king size duvet. two sheets used instead and two separate duvets, thats the only negative !!

Review 3:the whole hotel is lovely

Review 4:We thought the egg timer was poor . It was hard to judge when eggs were done as the buzz did not work .

Review 5:The staff were great. Jacci and Keith were very good . Just a great hotel . Will return soon . Craig @Jacci

Review 6:Beautiful boutique hotel! The rooms were immaculate and there was really nice attention to detail. Friendly and helpful staff. The only downside was no cooked breakfast. But the continental brekkie made up for it. Thanks for a great night.

Review 7:Very friendly staff that catered above and beyond my expectations. It's a pity they couldn't control the weather too. They served us breakfast after we rudely came late and they had cleaned up. They were very hospitable. Thank you for the stay.

Review 8:A little noisy outside bedroom next to kitchen with cleaning dishes, microwave etc., and general noisy chit chat amongst staff cleaning and setting up breakfast

Review 9:location to town centre and excellent restaurants. clean and tidy rooms, lounge and bar. excellent and warm welcome from staff

Review 10:Helpful, friendly, welcoming staff. Very good continental breakfast. Lovely room with a comfortable bed, and a lovely ensuite with walk in shower. All very clean and very nice. The hotel is situated on the main road but we couldn't hear the traffic, and it is very convenient for the town - a couple of minutes walk, and the station is about a 5 to 10 minute walk away.

Review 11:The staff (including the room maids) were excellent - very helpful and friendly. Also, the sitting rooms - complete with a good, free hot drinks machine - around the bar were really comfortable and we enjoyed planning our treks there.

Review 12:We could not fault this hotel.

Review 13:This bijou hotel was well situated just two minutes from the town centre. There were three very comfortable lounges with eclectic decor and a modern bar/ reception area. We recommend sitting here for a drink in the evening. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The continental breakfast was ample and there was a good selection. Our classic King room was nicely furnished and very cosy.

Review 14:Room was a bit noisy in the morning as adjacent to breakfast buffet. Continental breakfast only.

Review 15:Welcome and friendliness of staff. Room was very clean and decor was modern and stylish. Bed was super comfy. Complimentary water in room and lovely selection of hot drinks to choose from.

Review 16:Flat-rate charge of £25 per dog, which was reduced on negotiation to £15 as I had a small dog with her own crate. A discretionary charge would be better.

Review 17:Lovely room and excellent breakfast, friendly and helpful staff

Review 18:A bit of a steep walk back to the train station but not the hotel's problem. Doable even for 4 old geezers like us.

Review 19:The bedding was great and the rest of the facility was also great. We had had a long day with several problems so it was great to walk into that room!

Review 20:Cannot think of anything...

Review 21:Could not have found a better place to stay. The staff is most excellent; the treatment could not have been better. Rooms are comfortable and pricing is in line. The location is fine, just different from where we would normally stay. We are after all, spoiled Americans.

Review 22:Nothing to dislike.

Review 23:I have stayed here a few times and I keep returning, so they must be doing something right. Very good facilities, a healthy breakfast and friendly staff.

Review 24:The room was spacious, clean and modern with the comfiest bed we've ever had at a hotel. The staff were really friendly and helpful, with a special mention to Keith who went the extra mile and worked his socks off.

Review 25:Nothing!

Review 26:BEAUTIFUL rooms, white, clean, one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in, fabulous big television screens, SCRUMPTIOUS full english breakfast up the road at the Angel Inn

Review 27:Nothing

Review 28:Outstanding service, location , cleanliness, comfort and everything else. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. Recommend to anyone. Special thanks to Jacky. Well done.

Review 29:The hotel didn't have a TV in the lobby bar so we had to go elsewhere to watch the rugby game. The room and the bathroom were both small, and there was no place to put toiletries in the bathroom.

Review 30:breakfast was lovely

Review 31:Parking can be an issue, but there's a large car park almost opposite the hotel if full.

Review 32:Hotel is lovely. Extremely pleasant and helpful staff. Room was great and immaculately clean.

Review 33:Would like the option of a cooked breakfast .

Review 34:Lovely spotless hotel . The staff are excellent and helpful in every aspect . We had a great stay and very comfortable .

Review 35:Really friendly, helpful and approachable staff. The hotel has recently been renovated which has left it felling fresh and looking smart. Unlike many other hotels there were no hidden charges as WiFi is complimentary, including in the bedrooms and the continental breakfast was included in the room rate. We had a very enjoyable, comfortable and relaxing weekend stay.

Review 36:There was nothing we didn't like.

Review 37:Great location - very convenient for town centre. Rooms were great, very clean and the bed was really comfortable. Good tea and coffee selection. Breakfast was of continental style which was perfect for us. Plenty to eat. Staff were very helpful and polite. All in all a great place and we would definitely go back

Review 38:can't think of any thing i didn't like, room perhaps a bit small, small window ,lovely comfy bed made up for it,

Review 39:all of it.excellent welcome , lovely hotel much better than on web site we attended a wedding and chose this hotel as it was near to church and the angel hotel for reception, breakfast was one of the best continental, ever, all fresh fruit and lovely cherries, lovely staff, loved it,thank you,x

Review 40:There was nothing to dislike except perhaps the wall between our rooms was a little less soundproof than it could have been but other guests soon settled for the night anyway.

Review 41:This really is a top notch small hotel that has been modernised to perfection with really good taste. The owner ran around doing everything perfectly and never stopped. He even moved his car for us to park. It was warm, comfortable and spotlessly clean with lovely decoration and all amenities.

Review 42:The shower did not work, so I had to go to a staff bathroom for a shower and being a Saturday it was not possible to get somebody to fix it. The wifi did not work as well. But she did give us a discount because of our inconvenience.

Review 43:The room was clean and the bed comfortable.

Review 44:As it was a busy weekend there was some noise which we could hear from the bar area. This didn't last long and probably only as we were staying in one of maybe two rooms in close proximity to that area.

Review 45:Great location to town centre, free parking a bonus. Everything really new and nicely done out. Staff very friendly.

Review 46:The only small niggle was that our stay coincided with unusually hot weather which made the room quite stuffy. The window opens partially, but it took a while for the room to cool down. This is not normally a problem on visits to Wales though.

Review 47:Our room was exceptionally quiet and peaceful, with a lovely new shower and a really comfortable bed and clean room.

Review 48:This little hotel sets a very high bar for standards. The place is immaculate and spotless. The beds are luxurious. Friendly and attentive staff. Great location for exploring the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons.

Review 49:Door is very noisy to shut, really have to pull to close it properly. Seen other people struggling with it as well

Review 50:Excellent service, spotless room, very, very, very comfortable bed!!!! The room is very quiet and clean.

Review 51:The staff were amazing, special thanks go to Steve who kindly showed us ways around town and suggested great locations to visit. Very friendly and welcoming staff.

Review 52:Right by a main road so with open windows in the heat every passing car could be heard.

Review 53:The staff were incredibly welcoming, accommodating and polite without being overbearing. A perfect balance.

Review 54:Difficult to find after dark. Inevitable stairs and fire doors to deal with, but once in the room, all good.

Review 55:A friendly welcome despite our very late arrival. The staff were outstanding. The room quirkily comfortable and modern.

Review 56:For £100 plus per night, surely cooked breakfast should be an option. Catering too limited, we went to find somewhere else to eat and subsequently to drink.

Review 57:Quality of rooms, decor etc excellent. Staff excellent but a little thin on the ground.

Review 58:Cooked breakfast would havr been better. Difference in size of rooms of the same grade was massive. Mine was considerably smaller than the other in our party

Review 59:Very nice hotel in a good location. Staff were incredibly friendly. Hotel was cleab but renovation decoration needs to be finished

Review 60:Disappointed that breakfast was only continental and we had to walk to the Angel and pay a supplement for a hot breakfast

Review 61:The hotel has been beautifully upgraded and is very confortable. The staff were friendly and accomodating

Review 62:Very good accommodation: well furnished bedroom with huge bed; excellent bathroom, with first class suite Proximity to town/restaurants/facilities ideal. We

Review 63:Quite noisy till the bar shuts at 11pm, though it is a hotel, so understandable. Once it shut it is whisper quiet.

Review 64:Very comfortable bed, lovely bathroom, appearances can be deceiving, doesn't look great outside but very nice inside. Helpful, friendly staff.

Review 65:Woken in the morning by a dog yapping at 7am that seem to be in the hotel somewhere? and loud noises from the cleaners cupboard just down the corridor that echo'ed into my room when the room staff started shift - not the greatest sound proofing on my basement room

Review 66:Very clean, tidy & modern hotel

Review 67:We stayed in July...must have been the hottest weekend of the year...the room was uncomfortably warm without A/C. The breakfast was disappointing to say the least, even though we knew there were no cooking facilities on site...the cold breakfast selection was minimal and a let down.

Review 68:The staff were very pleasant and welcoming and accommodating, really friendly and couldn't

Review 69:Parking space was very limited and this caused headaches when returning after a long day's hike. Staff did their best to assist. An arrangement with nearby Aldi store for hotel guest parking might be a solution. Also our room was small (room 18) for two people.

Review 70:Breakfast was great! nice selection. Staff were great - very hospitable, helpful.

Review 71:Next to no storage space for clothes - no wardrobe and no drawers - only a 6 inch rail behind a mirror. Classic room was somewhat small particularly the bathroom.

Review 72:All staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful and the place looked spotless. Ideal location.

Review 73:there was nothing to dislike,

Review 74:staff were super friendly but not over the top. It was immaculate. Very clean and modern. We were pleasantly surprised by continental breakfast which was lovely.

Review 75:Car park is small when busy but there are plenty of other places to park close by

Review 76:the hotel was clean, the beds very comfy and the staff 1st class. I booked by accident a room for 1 instead of 2. They really helped solve my problem. I also left something in the room that they posted to me free of charge. And if you pay an extra £5 you can eat breakfast (instead of the continental one provided) in the fabulous sister hotel on the same street. Highly recommended

Review 77:The hotel didn't serve hot food only bar nobles but it was explained that they had another hotel up the road that did.plenty of other places to eat in the town

Review 78:Hotel was excellent.staff were very helpful and the rooms were modern and comfortable

Review 79:The bed and bedding were luxurious but for me personally the quilt was far too hot

Review 80:Comfort and cleanliness and although the staff were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful they were also unobtrusive

Review 81:Friendly staff. Pleasantly surprised to be informed of our upgrade on arrival. Very spacious room with super comfy bed. Quiet location within short walk of town.

Review 82:The car park is very small and was full when I arrived. I was advised that I could park it even though I would block someone's exit. I declined this because I was planning to go out so would not have been available to move the car. There is some on road parking available on the business park a very short distance to the side of the hotel which I used.

Review 83:The staff were very helpful and offered to carry my bags to and from the room and checked that I had everything I needed.

Review 84:Really friendly staff, helpful and welcoming. Rooms well decked out and with style. First rate buffet breakfast. easy access to town or Rail Station what's not to like

Review 85:The only very small downside is the breakfast - continental only (which is fine as this is what they advertise), could have a bit more selection in cold meats/cheeses.

Review 86:Very nice hotel, very nicely decorated and impeccable. The staff are lovely! Dogs allowed. Would definitely recommend/go again.

Review 87:The only slightly down side is the location of the hotel. Close to a mini industrial estate so quite noisey early in the morning.

Review 88:Our room was a lovely size. Really roomy and clean

Review 89:Had to go to sister hotel up road for a cooked breakfast. Only a continental breakfast available on premise.

Review 90:High quality finish throughout hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 91:The printout of our booking (which we can forward you a copy) had bed and breakfast only to be informed when we booked in the breakfast would be continental but then discovered @ breakfast that it was a very light breakfast, on complaining I spoke to the booking officer based in the Angel hotel up the road, were we were told we could have bought breakfast for £5 per person ?? We did have a rebate of £10 but I found the misinformation concerning.

Review 92:We were informed that we had been given a complimentary upgrade, the room was lovely but the traffic noise was very disturbing

Review 93:No cooked breakfast ,terrible free WiFi extremely slow ,over priced alcohol at the bar ,bed headboard that made a noise with the slightest movement ,staff noisy on the Fri night but fine on Saturday ,badly positioned room 8 ,can hear every noise from the bar .

Review 94:Lovely clean ,refurbished hotel ,good continental breakfast ,excellent spacious power shower ,bottled water + biscuits was a added extra ,checked in early

Review 95:Too bad that the hotel does not have a restaurant and cannot store your luggage upon check-out.

Review 96:The cleanness and design of the room, the high quality bed, the breakfast, the helpfulness of the staff.

Review 97:Mattress a little soft. The management actively seek feedback though, as they endeavour to get things perfect for their guests. Comendable for a new business.

Review 98:Super breakfast for Continental (option to go to the sister hotel for cooked if that floats your boat). Staff couldn't mo more friendly or helpful. Clean and tidy hotel.

Review 99:Paid for a king size bed, and the bed was two singles clipped together, it was two single mattresses and two single duvets. Breakfast was advertised as included but full English was an extra £5 PP at a different hotel. Continental was included.

Review 100:Staff would do any thing to help

Review 101:No cooked breakfast available, or evening meal, however only a 5 minute walk into town. Not really a negative point I was aware of this when I booked .

Review 102:Lovely place to stay, welcoming staff and very comfortable seating in bar/ lounge area. Room comfortable clean and cosy. Very relaxed stay thank you.

Review 103:Only problem was being woken at 2.30 am by the sound of people talking. They were not shouting but we could hear every word, as clearly as if they were in the room. Can only assume walls are paper thin. Impossible to sleep until they eventually shut up!

Review 104:Hotel has been beautifully renovated. Everything is new and spotless. Room was huge. Staff could not have been more friendly and helpful

Review 105:There is nothing to dislike!

Review 106:Little touches that made it special. Floor length mirror, proper coat hangers, heated towel rail, take away coffee at breakfast, open fire, great merlot, wonderful staff and an upgrade just because better room was available! I went for rugby in Cardiff but will be back and this time will not leave Abergavenny.

Review 107:The room was hot so a fan would have been appreciated.

Review 108:We were given an upgrade when I mentioned it was my husband's 40th and the staff wished him happy birthday

Review 109:We have nothing to complain about

Review 110:We loved the location of the hotel, we were able to park easily. The room was lovely, with everything we required. The staff were very helpful and so friendly. We loved the quality of the breakfast. We do not like a cooked breakfast, so the fresh fruit beautiful fresh bread / quality butter etc suited us.

Review 111:Continental breakfast only option would of liked the choice of a cooked.

Review 112:Staff were so helpful, Hotel was so clean and done out to a very high standard. Good location for exploring the town.

Review 113:no evening food served I the hotel in the evening meant that a short walk was required to find a restaurant.

Review 114:Very modern and very clean - good facilities. Good continental breakfast. I liked Abergevenny town centre. Busy High Street and nice shops.

Review 115:Full English breakfast not available only continental, however you could have this at the Angel Hotel just up the road for a supplement of £5 per head.

Review 116:Room & Bathroom good size nice & bright. The bed was extremely comfortable the sheets and pillows good quality, very restful room. The bar and lounges were very tastefully decorated and welcoming good atmosphere.

Review 117:Road noise, no room service, no resturant. Bar only served overpriced alcohol. Shower kept going cold. No hooks to hang coats in rooms. Room got cleaned at 3pm Cold tea.doors banging all night.

Review 118:Staff very competent, close to centre.

Review 119:This was a special day for my wife and I. The welcome on arrival was friendly and our room was immaculate, the bedding was first class and the toilet spotless. Breakfast was very tasty, as good as anything on mainland Europe. A good coffee maker would be an asset but it is only coffee. We were asked by the Manager for critisisms good or bad and I could only find fault with coffee and no welsh butter.

Review 120:Limited choice of breakfast, continental only. Hotel bar shutting early, 10 o'clock.

Review 121:Location to town. Clean and modern decor. Hotel and rooms with keyless security. Friendly helpful staff

Review 122:No cooked breakfast option Shared table at breakfast No wardrobe, shelves, drawers or hanging space for clothes ! Took all of the money up front despite a cancellable up to 24 hours deal. Wasn't able to get a receipt at checkout because the member of staff 'didn't know how to do it. - had to ring up (3 times as the phone wasn't answered the first 2 times and no answerphone) to give my email address so that they could send a receipt !

Review 123:Free Wifi - Good signal Room cleanliness

Review 124:Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment... was expecting a cooked breakfast for the price for 1 night, £105 for me and my fella, but it was a measly continental and nowhere did it say it was only going to be a continental breakfast!! :(

Review 125:So clean and friendly and fresh, lovely bathroom. Fantastic location

Review 126:nothing to point

Review 127:brand new hotel well located to town and the brecon beacons. great night sleep, beautiful toilet, comfy room, gourmet products for breakfast, natural juice, loved it.

Review 128:Nothing worth mentioning!

Review 129:It is located just on the edge of town. They included lots of little extras - a bottle of water each side of the bed and wi-fi info so you didn't have to ask. Beautifully crisp, fresh white bedlinen. Spacious shower and ultra modern bathroom facilities. Lovely hosts who genuinely wanted feedback from us about anything they could improve upon. There are just too many likes to list!

Review 130:Wasnt anything to dislike.

Review 131:A very good Hotel, staff were very welcoming, room was lovely, beds were really cosy and check wasn't untill 11am. Would recommend.

Review 132:Booking.com informed us it was the last room available when there wasonly one other couple in the hotel out of twenty two rooms. We weretherefore paying top rates for our rooms. We were put in a twin bedsmall room the first night and when we got back from dinner at 20.30there was nobody to complain to as the place was in darkness with noreceptionist or no bar open. We were moved the following morning withinone hour of our complaint to a double room which was what we wereexpecting for the price we paid in the first place. Also booking, comshould make it clear that the hotel only does continental breakfast andno other meals or food at all. The bar was never open past nine oclock, and some of the photographs shown when booking were of their sisterhotel "the Angel". Very disappointed.

Review 133:Rooms were recently renovated with new beds and furniture to aexcellent standard.

Review 134:welcoming staff and very comfortable roon. this is an old victorian hotel elegantly refurbished on an up-to-daye style

Review 135:Quality of overall experience. Very good staff, stylish room, very clean. On site parking.
