Reviews for The Unicorn Inn
Review 1:The rooms were spacious & immaculately clean, the staff & owners were very friendly & welcoming, The Unicorn is pretty much near the centre of Richmond, within walking distance to shops, restaurants & local amenities.
Review 2:The shared bathrooms arent ideal but was literally outside our door and was again very clean.
Review 3:Great location, room was very big and comfortable, also very clean.
Review 4:We got locked out on the first night - we had a key but someone had bolted the doors inside. Rang number on key and half hour later someone let us in. Room was above noisy pub and pub entrance. There was group of noisy drunk guys swearing so difficult to rest in room, although pub not open too late. One towel and cups in room dirty.
Review 5:Bed was really comfy. Room was spacious. Good shower. Good location in town.
Review 6:Cold rooms. Not a suitable place to stay, unless you are taking part in the party they were having downstairs. Karaoke brings me to the conclusion that the people of Richmond cannot sing. No breakfast either, even though it stated on booking site that it was included.
Review 7:Friendly staff, willing to help
Review 8:The room we had booked was not available and we where sent to another premises. We where told by the unicorn that there was a leek in the room and by the bed and breakfast that they had double booked us.
Review 9:Looked like a really nice place to stay and really central
Review 10:Nothing they can help but I prefer to have my own toilet. I don't know if I would have booked if I had payed attention to the separate bathroom
Review 11:Helpful lovely staff and a nice place to have a wee drink before venturing into Richmond town which was literally around the corner
Review 12:Be aware that this is above a pub - some noise can be heard though generally not a problem. A little overpriced for accommodation that has shared bathroom and no breakfast provided.
Review 13:Richmond is a quaint little village - The Unicorn Inn is well located to explore it. Staff were very helpful.
Review 14:Windows open all the time and couldn't shut them. Very cold weekend but there was extra duvets so it wasn't too bad I suppose. Wasn't properly informed of on site parking so ended up with a £25 penalty charge.
Review 15:Great staff, very comfy bed and great location.
Review 16:The bathroom was not very close to our room, the bathroom wasn't very clean, the water pressure terrible, there was no heating when we arrived, the pub downstairs was pumping music until after 1am, only 2 tea bags supplied in the room for a 2 night stay, the room wasn't very clean... Wasn't very happy with the standard.
Review 17:The bed was good
Review 18:No on suit and loud music every night Shared bathroom No change of towels and no room service at all No new tea coffee
Review 19:Location room wasn't bad at all
Review 20:Advised on arrival that breakfast was no longer included- bill adjusted appropriately. Also pub no longer serves evening meals. Saturday night stay, thumping bass of disco till 1am, directly beneath our room. Not great.
Review 21:Richmond is lovely and Unicorn is central. Rooms are quirky and large.
Review 22:Room was directly above the pub and Friday night was karaoke until late. We struggled to drop off to the sound of suspicious minds... There was a peep hole in the door to our room... Enough said. I paid £93 for two nights not including breakfast. It was bank holiday but really?! It's more of a hostel than a hotel...
Review 23:Friendly staff, eager to help with parking problems, full working television with digital channels and coffee and tea in the room.
Review 24:how can a bedroom have no wardrobe, just a bracket to hang your clothes. Bare bulb is not a good look in any room Black stain on bed sheet was a bit off putting also
Review 25:very friendly landlord and staff
Review 26:The staff were very poor in their handling of our reception which was at the bar booking in between serving drinks. Booking us into and taking us to a basic room awaiting refurb, where the means of opening the door to get out was to put your fingers a hole in the door where a lock had been fitted. When I enquired about breakfast there was a debate between on and off duty staff as to who might be cooking breakfast, a priority would be to retrain or replace staff. Parking was one car space behind the hotel where you had to reverse up a long a narrow lane dodging waste bins, otherwise it would be in the next street Richmond has these residence only discs which doesn't do a lot for holiday establishments as there was a large square outside the hotel but it was residence disc parking only.trade
Review 27:The Owners reaction when he found we had been booked into a room awaiting refurbishment, considering the poor man had just come out of hospital, we took his offer to move rooms. The owners mother cooked breakfast and a lovely breakfast it was to.
Review 28:Too noisy, street noise. No fridge in room, which would have been nice, as breakfast was not supplied.
Review 29:Very central for most places. Lovely location. Owner very cheerfull
Review 30:too many stairs for anyone not nimble on there feet. and parking is not good it's a disc zone so you have to keep moving your car.
Review 31:very helpful landlord. the bed was really comfy. if you want somewhere as a base then this is ok. very quaint.
Review 32:Lack of on suite facilities and poor parking arrangements. We never had the option to upgrade to breakfast as owners weren't around.
Review 33:Traditional no frills pub accommodation. As owners were away we only met bar staff, but these were polite and helpful.
Review 34:No included breakfast, no individual bathroom, not even a sink within my room. There is literally nothing, apart from a bed. Moreover, there is no less in the cost. What make things worse is that the Wifi code was written on a piece of paper with the logo of William Hill on it. Not anyone likes gambling could they just find a blank paper instead?
Review 35:Option on website to book breakfast which we left until we got there todecide. Upon arrival, told manager wasn't around and breakfastwouldn't be available. Went to Weatherspoons instead for breakfast.Website stated free parking available but this was restricted using aparking disc. Cold showers!
Review 36:They allowed us to check in an hour early as we were going to a weddingnearby. Also checkout next day was up til 11am which was ideal. Pubstaff allowed us to leave our bags in back room while we went forbreakfast elsewhere.
Review 37:The parking is a bit of a fiddle. 2-hour maximum with a (free) badge before 6pm and after 8am. But that's the council's fault, not the pub's.
Review 38:Lovely location in historic building in picturesque part of Richmond. Staff very friendly and helpful, supplying more tea bags and proper milk when requested. Nicely decorated clean room with lots of atmosphere, very comfy bed and Sky TV. Very quiet when we stayed but I could see how it gets rowdy at weekends.
Review 39:Noise as the pub empties, but not bad and not for long.
Review 40:Plain and simple accomodation. No fancy extra's but a good priced, clean and comfy room. beds were very comfy. Good sized rooms.
Review 41:as hotel is upper rooms of popular public house be prepared for some noise but this didn't spoil our visit as locals were friendly!
Review 42:the location of hotel suited the purpose of my visit to nearby Army Training Barracks but exploring immediate surroundings of the hotel was a pleasant surprise. with cobbled streets and blond local stone the area is worth a visit and I look forward to returning to the area
Review 43:The fact that we didn't have time to enjoy a fry up! Not the fault of the staff, Chef entertained us an hour before normal hours so we could meet the deadline for our sons parent day! Faultless service. If our son sticks Para training & passes out as a fully trained soldier this will be the first call we make to the UNICORN INN to try & book a room for his passing out parade. Thank-you love Mark & Ange Cornwall xx
Review 44:The helpfulness of the staff & their knowledge of the best way to get to Catterick Garrison (although I'm sure they are heartily sick of explaining this on a regular basis to outsiders!)
Review 45:There was no en-suite but there were only three rooms so it really didn't matter - there were ample toilets and showers. Everything was lovely and clean.
Review 46:My friend and I were staying in Richmond for just one night for a party. Looking for somewhere to stay we chose the Unicorn because of the positive reviews I'd read and it's location. The friendly staff couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome. Bedroom was huge with tea making facilities and biscuits and we'd definitely stay over again but this time bring others with us! A lively pub, good atmosphere, and the price was excellent - (super Yorkshire breakfast too!). No problem with parking.
Review 47:Noisy in bar until late, not a great welcome (not told where things were or what to do with my case next day)
Review 48:Comfortable rooms, clean facilities, modern decoration
Review 49:Rooms are not en suite, which wasn't clear when booking. Bathrooms were grubby. Bedding - sheets etc appeared to be clean but at least one of the duvets had stains on it. Also, only duvets available were 13.5 tog - not what was wanted in mid June though no doubt welcome in winter.
Review 50:Convenient location for central Richmond
Review 51:Room facilities a little basic: no ensuite, TV quirky, but reasonable for the price.
Review 52:Excellent location, helpful staff. Room was large and bed comfortable.
Review 53:May be noisy on weekends since it's over a pub. Does not have an ensuite bathroom.
Review 54:Great location, friendly proprietor, clean, comfortable and quiet (during the week). The room is quite spacious.
Review 55:The fact that it is a pub and getting a good night's sleep is almost impossible. If not hiking... not a problem... if hiking.... big problem!
Review 56:The staff were friendly and the location was great
Review 57:Friday night is karaoke night and it went on till 2 in the morning the landlord was not happy with the staff as it should have finished at 1
Review 58:Me and my husband went for our anniversary and when we arrived there was a bottle of champagne and 2 glasses there waiting for us
Review 59:General decoration needed finishing and didn't like shared bathroom which I didn't realise at time of booking
Review 60:Nice atmosphere in pub, breakfast was lovely and value for money, staff pleasant
Review 61:There was a karaoke night on so it was a bit noisy but not enough to keep me awake. I was in Room 1 which was away from the bar. Very quiet after midnight.
Review 62:The Inn is very old and retains some original features. Friendly pub full of locals who made me welcome. Lovely big room with comfy bed. No en suite but it wasn't a problem. Spotlessly clean bathroom. Set in a lovely square in Richmond. Huge breakfast! Very pleasant and friendly landlord - good luck with the new baby!!
