Reviews for Bowood Park Hotel

Review 1:The advert for the hotel was very misleading in description and photographs. The suites were unlike any of those shown in the advert and our supposedly "superior" room was small and cramped. The reception area was basic and unattractive. The restaurant menu was limited and we were advised to eat in the bar as there weren't enough guests booked in. Guests were required to make their own tea, coffee and toast at breakfast. Bar prices are ridiculously excessive. The hotel did not match up to the £247 cost for three nights B&B. A hotel to avoid unless a golfing enthusiast!

Review 2:The staff who were very pleasant and extremely helpfull.

Review 3:No hot water in the bathroom due to boiler breakdown, however staff were very apologetic and gave some discount off my bill.

Review 4:The hotel location is set in very beautiful private grounds including a golf course. The room was spacious and comfortable and the food was really good. Wifi signal was strong in the room enabling me to do some quality work while staying there.

Review 5:Wasn't able to eat in the restaurant on our first couple of nights due to pre-booked functions and wasn't advised of this on checking in.

Review 6:A great location, central for visiting places in North Cornwall. Lovely views over golf course and beyond.

Review 7:There wasn't anything that we didn't like.

Review 8:Everyone was really lovely and very helpful. room was massive and very comfortable. Hotel was reasonably priced. Would come again!

Review 9:Groups of male golfers eating, and loudly offensively swearing among themselves

Review 10:Flexibility for booking, arrival, eating, course access Golf course view room lovely except for noise from other rooms.

Review 11:Peaceful & well maintained Very friendly & helpful staff Extremely comfortable bed Not a golfer, but would definitely go here for it if I did.

Review 12:Noisy because of golfers.Evening meals were spoiled by too much reheated veg. Upgrade cost extra but rooms the same but for view of the drive

Review 13:Breakfast was excellent .Staff very friendly

Review 14:difficult to get to the way we came ! found out later there was a better way !

Review 15:rooms were large, clean and had good facilities. bar and food good. lovely view over course from our room.

Review 16:Not really a bad experience but feel that there perhaps could be a room set aside from the main bar and lounge area where people can sit and talk without the television being on and large groups of loud men sitting,

Review 17:The staff were without exception friendly, kind and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and they went out of their way to make our stay a pleasurable one.

Review 18:The View from the front facing rooms are excellent, we originally had one facing to the rear, we asked if we could be moved and it was sorted although one more flight of stairs up,but well worth the effort, room cleanliness excellent, good breakfast etc, all we needed there on our four day stay which we enjoyed, sorry we never managed to golf but course looked excellent. We would use Hotel again

Review 19:No ground floor bedrooms, no lift (we knew that, 2nd visit). As a golf hotel obvious possibility of large groups especially at week-end making breakfast a bit of a bun fight.

Review 20:Beautiful peaceful location. Bar + meals available all day. Good buffet breakfast. Excellent staff.

Review 21:The twin beds were a little small. Could have done with a spa facility as the weather was too awful for playing golf.

Review 22:The staff were extremely helpful and went out of their way to be welcoming. Our room had a lovely view over the golf course and the food was excellent.

Review 23:Very little if any discount offered for golf for residents.

Review 24:Large comfortable rooms. Good breakfast. Central location to visit the attractions of Cornwall.

Review 25:Having stayed at another 'golf hotel' just a few days earlier, Bowood Park was without the 'international resort' aspirations, but streets ahead on delivery, and a lot less costly. We liked it!

Review 26:The place was a llittle tricky to find at first, as I had not downloaded the map. Having got the right road, though, it was easy! We had a spacious room (206) on the top floor, overlooking carpark and hills rather than the golf course. Bathroom was also very spacious - although without any shelving. Staff were welcoming and helpful, food reasonably priced (evening bar menu) and with generous helpings. Lovely views from public rooms, and presumably from bedrooms at front.

Review 27:Breakfast food especially bacon was inedible, coffee was from a previous century's leftover camp coffee, milk was foul. Never seen no step free access to reception before. I thought this was legally mandated.

Review 28:Comfortable bed with large room and good wifi

Review 29:they didn't advertise that our apartment was right next to a noisy kitchen flue which was noisy most nights keeping us awake only given back 10% of money paid which was a lot of money for what we got very disappointed staff were not very helpful

Review 30:The only drawback for us was the fact that the walls are quite thin and we were woken by our neighbours a couple of times.

Review 31:The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings, the location was perfect for us as we were visiting a nearby friend. The staff were unfailingly polite, happy and helpful. The breakfasts were very good, the bar meals we had were large portions and well cooked. The room was basic but clean and warm, the beds were comfortable, our bathroom was huge with a never ending supply of hot water.

Review 32:Everything was perfect. The room was excellent and all the staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and friendly. I will definitely be staying here again.

Review 33:We were given a room with the window directly above skips area. The smell was enough that we prefered keeping the window close throughout the whole time.

Review 34:Great scenary from the restaurant area. From the room not so good.

Review 35:Decor rather plain, limited vegetarian options on the dinner menus, unable to call reception from room

Review 36:The location, staff, food and overall service - highest standard, well trained, friendly and efficient - a true credit to you Thank you

Review 37:There was a really loud noise about 3 or 4 times during the morning and at night, each day. It was presumably from the kitchen which was right next door, but it was extremely loud and at 11 o'clock at night it's very annoying. It sounded like the pipes.

Review 38:It was very spacious, with ample room for three of us. The kitchen was well equipped and the bedrooms nice and light.

Review 39:Nothing.

Review 40:The whole holiday at Bowood Hotel was perfect. The staff were all amazing and friendly, a super huge thank you to Nigel and Simon who went out of their way to help us when we ran in to a glip, we will not hesitate to return to the Bowood and would highly recommend it to anyone. The breakfast was also delicious.

Review 41:if anything we found the walls in the room to be quite thin . ie adjoining bathroom was quite noisy ie shower toilet even brushing teeth with electric tooth brush could be heard ok it was there and did not bother us personally but just be aware.

Review 42:location . port isaac. . tintagel . bocastle. etc many locations not that far away.

Review 43:Being on the golf course meant great outlook and we enjoyed being away from towns. It was a quiet, nice room at a very reasonable price. Only booked the day before arriving and was surprised at the great value for money.

Review 44:Rooms touch small but fine for overnight. The lamb was burnt to a crisp. The waitress was very good about it though. Sign posting from the MAIN road could be better

Review 45:Has Bath. Was clean and better than adequate just maybe not too shinney.

Review 46:guests who were there for the golf seemed priorty, it needs more communication when breakfast was taken filling up slow at times and conflicting information when dealing with guests.

Review 47:it was in very pleasant surroundings, staff were friendly.

Review 48:we only stayed for one night because we were traveling around but what a fantastic hotel , staff , cleanliness second to none ,, we will certainly go again , real value for money

Review 49:The bathroom tap had metal shavings that splintered into my partners finger.

Review 50:The reception staff were very accommodation and willing to help with any request.

Review 51:The tv's in the room were far too small for the size of the room our only complain x

Review 52:We enjoyed our stay here what a surprise when we drove through the grounds very nice

Review 53:Great location if you interesting history. You can get to few castles around just in the minute. Great and helpfull staff and nice, clean and big rooms.

Review 54:Nothing, although the decor in the rooms was starting to look a little "tired".

Review 55:We were "upgraded" to a quieter room overlooking the golf course, without requesting it or being asked. And this was a late booking, already reduced in price! Excellent service. We had dinner in the restaurant, and it was of a far higher standard than we might have expected.

Review 56:Bed uncomfortable.Hotel generally warm but bedroom cold. Breakfast not very good.

Review 57:Staff,good room size. Tea,coffee, water restocked daily. Restaurant.Dinner very good and vegetables very fresh

Review 58:The three of us stayed in the Two Bedroom Apartment and wished we could have stayed here longer! It was surprisingly a lot bigger than initially thought. The kitchen was well kitted out and the bathroom was very clean. The apartment/ flat was very comfortable and private, with our flat being located towards the back of the hotel - we even had our own private area for parking. The surroundings were very beautiful and peaceful. Would highly recommend staying here :)

Review 59:For us the location was not great in that there is nothing else around, and being unsure of local places we were limited to what we could do in thr evening. Also the hotel is on a golf course so caters for these guests, which is fine. I wouldn't really recommend it unless you are coming for golf, although having saidthat it worked well as a base for us to travel around.

Review 60:Friendly staff, particularly the man on the front desk (sorry didn't catch a name). Reasonably priced food, I really enjoyed the fish and chips.

Review 61:We did not encounter anything to complain about. I am sure if there had been any problems they would have been rectified immediately. Although, we could hear the person in the room next door loudly snoring. I would probably bring my own pillows next time.

Review 62:Situated on the splendid golf course with trees, bushes and plants and ponds ; beautiful.Greeted immediately on arrival, room was outstanding and we had a balcony. The bed was extremely comfortable and enormous although the pillows were like rocks and to bulky, would be much nicer with flatter and soft feather pillows . Linen lovely, towels changed when ever required. Tea, coffee and bottled water replenished in room daily. Flat screen TV, although could do with being a bit bigger. Breakfast wonderful, service outstanding and as helpful and polite as could possibly be. We had such a lovely time there. It felt like luxury and worth every penny.

Review 63:My only criticism is the shower wasn't that brilliant. This coming from someone whose shower at home is not good.

Review 64:The view was to die for! Staff were very friendly.

Review 65:We were aware that the room would be noisy due to being over the kitchen and fan was working, as promised this went off at 10pm. The bed was hard and lumpy.

Review 66:Breakfast was very good, staff friendly & helpful. Setting beautiful.

Review 67:Did not eat in dining room as felt too much like a canteen and the lights were very bright in bar and restaurant. Very open area and not a cosy feel.

Review 68:Staff, price, views, location, breakfast and atmosphere

Review 69:Lack of disability ramps from outside to indoors and no lift

Review 70:The staff were very helpful and polite The grounds were lovely The bar menu very varied and the food was good.

Review 71:The wifi was a bit hit and miss, some parts of the hotel it worked brilliantly but others (such as in the restaurant), it didn't. Small thing though when compared to all the positives of this hotel.

Review 72:We had a fantastic stay here, staff were all absolutely lovely - so friendly and helpful! Spacious room, nice big bathroom, lovely view. Nice little touches like bottles of water every day. Fantastic breakfast - lovely to be able to order something different to what was on the servery if you wanted. Amazing value too.

Review 73:smoking of other residents on adjacent veranda's Lack of comfy furniture for evening - felt had to sit at bar table for evening drinks.

Review 74:Friendliness of staff Peace and tranquility View from room Veranda

Review 75:The walls are so thin that it feels like your neighbours are in the room with you, the shower was cold and the wifi was rubbish

Review 76:The staff were very helpful and welcoming! The location is beautiful and quiet.

Review 77:Wifi reception can be poor depending on one's location

Review 78:Helpful staff eager to please. Large clean and comfortable bedroom and bathroom. Excellent menus with a wide range of well cooked and well presented food. Peaceful location.

Review 79:If you don't play golf, it's probably not a place to choose. The bed was too soft that I couldn't sleep well.

Review 80:We could enjoy splendid view from the hotel room. The room was clean and the bar inside the hotel was nice.

Review 81:I didn't enjoy my evening meal because everything was fried, not what I expected from the menu. However, my wife said the apple and parsnip soup was delicious.

Review 82:A very large breakfast (full English) with a large range of food on the plate. We are not golfers but for those interested in the game, there was a well-kept golf course on site.. The kitchen and dining staff were particularly friendly and helpful

Review 83:Floor boards in bedroom and bathroom very creaky. Would have liked better choice of fruit with breakfast (grapefruit/oranges etc).

Review 84:Friendly efficient staff, quick check in and out. Room spacious and very clean. Food good. Beautiful location.

Review 85:The free wifi not good. The hotel has hotspots where you can pick up wifi. My room was at end of corridor only place I could get wifi was the reception or standing by fire escape.

Review 86:The rooms were lovely and clean. The bathroom was bigger than most hotel rooms. They provide complimentary bottled water and biscuits along with tea coffee making facilities in the room, which I thought was nice as most big chain hotels just give you tea coffee making facilities. The buffet breakfast was really good with lots of choice and if there was something you wanted that wasn't on buffet, then the chef makes it for you.

Review 87:Had a lovely two night stay there bed was very comfy and clean views amazing over the golf course and excellent food , and the staff were very friendly , would defiantly. Go back

Review 88:I was very disappointed with having to have my breakfast as a self serve. although the staff were very friendly, it would have made my stay excellent if there had been table service.

Review 89:peace and quiet very relaxing

Review 90:Walls are very thin, can hear everything in neighbouring rooms.

Review 91:Massive comfortable bed. Lovely room with great view of golf course. Clean hotel and friendly staff.

Review 92:Like so many hotels, the walls are a little thin !!! Next door was a snorer!!

Review 93:There was nothing not to like. Bottled water in the room was a nice touch ... especially as we stayed here at an exceptionally good rate.

Review 94:The hardest mattress and the worse pillows that I ever have had at any hotel. The Rooms are far from being soundproof, you can hear everything from all your surrounding rooms and if you have a light sleeping it will be terrible you will not have sweet dreams. The WIFI is not constant. and the shower has no pressure and the second time that we used there was no hot water. So if you really fancy this golf course please go there but if you don't golf I would say don't go there

Review 95:Beautiful surrounding area, nice golf course, big sized rooms, cleanliness and nice breakfast.

Review 96:We were on the first floor and could hear the upstairs guests walking around - floors creaky.

Review 97:Beautiful location. Didn't play golf, but the course looked superb. Friendly staff.

Review 98:Room 127 over the kitchens so noisy fan that starts at 8am and goes on until 10pm which the receptionist warned us about however as the hotel wasn't full why wouldn't you direct customers to better rooms to ensure their stay is perfect. Breakfast - no one greeted you and very large metals trays containing breakfast with heavy lids that were ridiculous to handle and dangerous, however this process wasn't everyday and 2 out of the 4 days we stayed we were served at the table but no explanation so a bit of a muddle

Review 99:Staff in the bar area very friendly and efficient. Very comfy bed

Review 100:The restaurant/bar area... The chef in the morning shouted abuse at his staff for asking if he could make us breakfast 10mins after the 9:30 time. It was embarrassing but thanks to the receptionist for sorting it out.

Review 101:The Receptionist was exceptional. She has been there for 7 years and knows a thing or two about customer service

Review 102:The only thing I could fault was that the shower curtain pole fell down whilst coming out of the shower. Although this did happen, the hotel were very fast to fix it!

Review 103:I particularly liked the local area, one pub in particular. The Masons Arms. I also felt that the first night we arrived there was a young girl working who was very helpful and went out of our way to make our stay pleasant. Very friendly.

Review 104:The noise of the wind turbine that was outside the window opposite our bedroom door. This was going on and off all the time during our stay. Therefore we would not return or recommend the hotel.

Review 105:Every one was very helpful and excellent food.

Review 106:Nothing much to dislike... maybe the wash taps can be converted to mixed. I guess I could afford to book here probably because it was off season

Review 107:Almost everything...including a high rated buffet breakfast

Review 108:My wife found the bed very firm. Although the shower worked well and the place was clean and tidy it could do with an upgrade.

Review 109:Room was a large size and the breakfast bacon was outstanding Good value for money and plenty of parking

Review 110:NOISE !!! Booked a basic room - however was not advised by initial email reservation that location of room meant constant noise from kitchen fans and what appeared to be some sort of generator noise - this was only mentioned in email received 5 days before arriving, too late to make changes - BE WARNED, ASK FOR QUIET ROOM !! But we will definately visit again avoiding the noisy kitchen !!

Review 111:Location is a good base to travel all over Cornwall - courteous and helpful staff - great buffet breakfast included in price, plenty of choice, very obliging waiting staff eager to help within the hotel and recommending local restaurants etc

Review 112:Carpeting in hall & stairways a little worn. Small detail which made no difference to our wonderful stay.

Review 113:The staff were exceptionally helpful with travel details & accommodating our needs My husband & I and my sister & our adult son. Liked that I could contact the hotel from the US to clarify the location & our room needs. Food at restaurants was great.

Review 114:Breakfast waiting staff although curtiouse ,seeing we were both on crutches never offered to assist in anyway at the self service buffet breakfast.

Review 115:The gent on duty at the reception could not have been more helpful.we are both disabled and he helped in every way possible .top marks bar staff friendly and helpful .

Review 116:Food not that inspiring. The bar food could be improved - too much fried food for our liking. Probably suits the golfers though.

Review 117:Location and facilities.

Review 118:Quality and value of Food is outstanding. Staff helpful and very friendly. Location ideal for visiting tourist sites. This was our second visit and was for 5 nights.

Review 119:Not much choice of food on the bar menu. The food that was on it was expensive.

Review 120:Tidy, clean and friendly place. Also lovely views across the golf course.

Review 121:We were only there one night - three couples - family. From the minute we walked in we felt welcome and couldn't have been more comfortable. Lovely rooms and facilities and incredibly beautiful area.

Review 122:The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The views from the hotel were superb. The food was cooked with a lot flair and very reasonably priced.

Review 123:A member of the bar staff appeared to serve club members before hotel guests, when there should have been no difference. When you are customer facing you should know who should be served next.

Review 124:We like the quiet location and the staff are friendly and helpful. This was our second visit so that says it all.

Review 125:food was distasteful and over priced. Service was dissapponting. Shower was either boiling or freezing. Maids left room unlocked after cleaning.

Review 126:Breakfast was ok.

Review 127:Bed a bit too firm and uncomfortable and would have liked option of a duvet. Decor in room and hallways of hotel a bit dated.

Review 128:Friendly and helpful staff, very welcoming. Nice decor around the main hotel and restraunt areas. Wifi good. Lovely big bathroom. Nice surroundings and peaceful

Review 129:The pleasant surroundings of the golf course were great. The room was comfortable but a bit tired. Wifi was very useful and the dinner and breakfast we had there were very good.

Review 130:Position of room at the end of a long corridor opposite the car park. No lift for luggage etc to get to 1st floor

Review 131:Beautiful surroundings Room size Breakfast Choice of evening meals

Review 132:Nothing, all was good

Review 133:Big rooms, large service areas, great breakfast with a good view over the golf course & countryside, peace & quiet .... basically everything was excellent. A great place in a great setting

Review 134:The choice of food at breakfast which did not match the menu as on only one morning of our four night stay was there any prepared fresh fruit or yoghurts. When this situation was queried with the staff their reply was 'we have run out'. Considering they knew they were fully booked and we were not late down for breakfast that excuse is not acceptable. The foul language from some of the golfing parties made meal time something to finish swiftly. If they put as much effort into maintaining the hotel building as they do the golf course then the hotel standard would be greatly enhanced. External areas of building particularly tired.

Review 135:We upgraded to a Superior Double which was light and airy though the patio door was not the easiest to close and lock. The views from the room were pleasing. The food at dinner was good.

Review 136:The evening menu seemed limited but we had already made a decision to eat out locally

Review 137:Booked this for one night to extend a week long holiday in Cornwall. Excellent value and lived up to our expectations

The Fine Print

Please note that golf is not included in the room rates. Please be aware that the 2-course dinner includes a starter and a main meal.In December, the bar and restaurant may be closed on Friday and Saturday nights.
