Reviews for A l'Hôtel Des Roys

Review 1:Staff didnt speak English well enough and you might have some problems with communication. One particular staff was nice but didnt know how to key payment info into the system properly, which resulted in some delay( 10 min approx. ) of my check-out since another staff manned the desk that day and he saw no data of my payment on the system, but it was sorted out well enough. Also, cleaning ladies here sure didn't understand the sign on the knob i put on ( how come? ) , i put 'no disturb' on because i wanted to leave my stuff around and before going out that day, i even repeated that to receptionist. I came back with cleaned room and the cleaning ladies moved some of my stuff around which I found a bit disturbing. And I went there during the start of winter, and there was a problem with heating system in my room that even though i turned the radiator's knob to the max, it was still freezing inside. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to stay in that room when it actually snowed outside !!

Review 2:The location was perfect, only about 7 min walk to Versailles Palace and the neighbourhood was nice and safe at night, I had no troubles walking out in the street at 11pm being a lone female traveller. The breakfast costed something, but was worth it with choices of food. I especially loved the orange juice pressing machine. This guaranteed you would have fresh orange juice to drink in the morning if you chose to have breakfast here.

Review 3:The access to the hotel was quite difficult to enter with a pram as there were several steps and the pavement was extremely narrow with parked cars in front. The lift was too small so we could not fit the pram inside. The room was a bit outdated also.

Review 4:I liked the location in front of Versailles Chateau, the friendly staff and the breakfast!

Review 5:Only critics for me is the low level of natural light in my room with a window facing another building. That said I only used the room for the evening. Still an excellent hotel.

Review 6:Very well located hotel close to the versailles palace, the city centre and train station. Very helpful staff and excellent breakfast. The room are good and quite. Overall very good value for money. I will come back.

Review 7:Sadly, hotel has no restaurant but there are several within a short walking distance.

Review 8:Quiet, clean hotel with friendly, helpful staff. Very convenient for Chateau of Versailles and RER station. Comfortable place for single female to stay.

Review 9:Breakfast area a bit small and could better organised. Room was a bit small. Hotel rooms had been refurbished but hall carpet a bit tired. Charge for dog was more than we paid elsewhere though otherwise no problems.

Review 10:The location for anyone visiting the Palace is perfect. Comfortable room and breakfast OK. Parking easy.

Review 11:Nothing.

Review 12:The location, walking distance from the railway station and not to far from the Chateau, had the breakfast and enjoyed it, found the staff to be very helpful and friendly, it has been my 3rd time of staying at this hotel and would highly recommend it.

Review 13:Superb location for visiting the Palace of Versaille, plus less than ten minutes walk to the town centre. Comfortable, good breakfast, parking right outside.

Review 14:Maintenance in our en suite. Breakfast. The sweet items and the ham not good at all.

Review 15:Location for Versailles absolutely perfect. The staff where lovely and helpful. For the price and location it was very good. Though there were a few maintenance issues in our room and the breakfast was not brilliant. I would not not recommend this hotel.

Review 16:If you have a car, the parking can be a problem. It is an older hotel, so the rooms are small. Bed was comfy, but duvet was too hot

Review 17:It was in an excellent, close location for visiting the Palace of Versailles.

Review 18:The room was very tiny, with an awkward bath and no air conditioning and no way, other than a little fan to get fresh air.

Review 19:The evening clerk sent us to a fabulous local restaurant, nothing touristy. The food and prices were both wonderful. A very nice change. In the morning, the hotel held our bags while we explored Versailles.

Review 20:Breakfast poor value and not buffet style.

Review 21:Very helpful staff. It's closeness to Palace of Versailles. Set in a leafy wide fairly busy avenue. Good eating choices nearby

Review 22:The location of this hotel is premier: within a short walk to the palace. It is not a luxurious place but is very clean and neat and has all amenities, including pleasant views across the rooftops. The front desk staff person was very helpful: we arrived within minutes of our scheduled tour of the Palace and he knew exactly where to send us to meet the guide, gave us good info on parking and the neighborhood.

Review 23:It took over an hour to check in. Even though there were people waiting to check-in the reception staff kept taking phone calls in preference to dealing with those waiting. As a result we did not have enough time to do justice to a visit to the palace before it closed so we didn't bother and just went to see the gardens in the evening. The room was really small for a double with just a fan to keep you cool at night. There wasn't even a kettle to make a drink. Would not stay there again. Also have been charged 10 Euros more than the booking stated on a 1 night stay. Not happy.

Review 24:good location for Versailles

Review 25:I liked all

Review 26:Mustafa at the reception was very helpful and kind. We always appreciate this welcoming at any hotel. The breakfast is more than a petit dejeneure and the rooms and bed are comfortable

Review 27:Better breakfasts can be taken locally for less than €12.

Review 28:Location second to none! Some confusion with my booking as my request/additional information hadn't been acknowledged but it was sorted....eventually. WiFi didn't connect, but otherwise a good stay.

Review 29:The bathroom in our room was very tiny. But certainly adequate for our needs. Just wouldn't have worked if someone was a larger person.

Review 30:The staff was so accommodating. The location couldn't have been more convent to Verdailles. Just two blocks down the street. There was plenty of public parking.

Review 31:Family room was very small and though fine for us would be a squeeze for those with older children

Review 32:Great little hotel in excellent location - on a broad tree-lined street leading to the palace, and a couple of nice cafes a minute's walk away. Breakfast was good and they charged us a lower price for the children which we appreciated

Review 33:The mattress protectors they were very hot to sleep on especially as the rooms had no air conditioning

Review 34:The friendleness of the staff nothing was to much trouble

Review 35:Room was not clean when my family was there. But a hotel staff changed the room quickly.

Review 36:Location and parking place were very good. Good restaurants were near by too.

Review 37:Would stay here again. Excellent, quiet location - easy walk to Palace & train station, and tourist information office. Rooms are large and clean. We had one large double bed and bunk beds, 2 tables, 3 chairs, an armoire & room safe, black-out curtains, and a quiet wall-mounted fan. The 3/4 length windows opened to a railing to a street view. Staff are friendly and provide 24-hour room service. We did not try the breakfast. There is a quiet sitting room with current magazines and a courtyard. Nice shampoo & towels, and shower had sufficient pressure. All was in good working order. I seem to recall the breakfast room may have been open 24 hours and people could bring in their own food.

Review 38:Extremely helpful staff. We were two families on our way to the South. We had seven bikes to store which was no problem. There is plenty of parking directly outside for 12 euro per day. The location is superb with excellent transport links to Paris.

Review 39:If you choose the non-refundable pricing option, be sure to note before visiting whether you have paid or not. We encountered staff confusion in this respect, which almost lead to us paying twice. Also, while our rooms were labelled as Non-Smoking, previous people had clearly been smoking in them.

Review 40:The staff were lovely, parking was easy, and the location was convenient.

Review 41:The bed was not comfy although my partner thought it was not bad, we didn't have a fan in the room so it was really hot - there were stairs to get into our room which wasn't too bad until it was dark.

Review 42:Location was amazing! Staff were tops and really helpful, English was great! You get what you pay for although this was great value for money.

Review 43:The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Location was great for visiting the Chateau. 24hr reception was great as we visited the evening fountains and fireworks show which ended late. Loved the embossed linen. A touch of class!

Review 44:Experienced neighbour's noise as I was in the annexe It was hot, had to keep windows open due due to no air conditioning. But not a big problem really.

Review 45:Staff very helpful when I requested extra things, changes to my itinerary, hot water for my tea, help for taxi departure, directions to eating places, etc. Big bath, spacious room.

Review 46:The temperature in Versailles was 39*C. The room had a fan that was sent out for repair. Desk guy talked to owner, who had no idea that it had not been returned. They would not change our room-upper floor and to hot to sleep in. Night guy brought a fan and at 2 in the morning an extension cord so we could move the fan to the window. Not totally the hotels fault- but we felt the owner gave us little consideration.

Review 47:the hotel was clean and had comfortable beds. Extremely convenient to the Chateau. Lovely staff, especially the overnight man.

Review 48:The hotel looks a little "tired" and is overdecorated. If you are into flat, sterile surfaces and minimalism, then this hotel is not for you. However, if you want to experience a typically French hotel, then it's a fun experience. The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.

Review 49:The hotel is very close to the RER station and the Château. The reception staff are friendly and helpful. Comfortable bed and good breakfast, including freshly squeezed orange juice and excellent coffee (very rare!). -

Review 50:Breakfast was far too expensive compared with other hotels we havestayed at in Versailles and other parts of France so we had breakfastout. Had it been more reasonable, we would have taken it there.

Review 51:The room was spacious and clean.

Review 52:Everything. The bed was wonky. There was paint pealing of the walls an the curtains weren't on properly. Also there was the sound of running water all night an to top it off the telly turned itself on first thing in the morning.

Review 53:Leaving in the morning!!!!

Review 54:No tea or coffee facilities in the room. This isn't an issue for 1 nights stay but it was for 4 nights

Review 55:Location location location. Excellent staff

Review 56:Small grim room, smelled weird, needed new carpets and no tea or coffee making facilities.

Review 57:Excellent staff, couldn't do enough for us! Breakfast superb and good value! Excellent location!

Review 58:Quite a lot of traffic noise The room's decor was tired

Review 59:Staff were friendly and helpful location was excellent room and breakfast good value bed was comfortable

Review 60:Beds could be more comfortable. Room needed updating.

Review 61:Helpful staff--the concierge made us complimentary coffee before we left to catch a 3:00 AM flight. The location was fantastic. Many restaurants in the area. Picture-perfect.

Review 62:The room decor wasn't my speed.

Review 63:Excellent staff! Super nice, helpful friendly. We wanted to stay an additional night, hotel was fully booked. Desk clerk found the last available room in Versailles.

Review 64:Great location and friendly staff who did speak English. We were here to see the palace so the lack of facilities such as pool gym was not relevant. Restaurants near by.

Review 65:We stayed in a family room and it was really perfect for the 5 of us (we brought our own spare bed). the staff were really friendly and helpful. The location is very good if you want to go into Paris.

Review 66:Opposite the police station so lots of siren noise. Street parking only which is expensive. Small room.

Review 67:Location. Corner bath in superior room. Reasonable price for this town.

Review 68:Not so great breakfast, small room with an even smaller bathroom. The cleaning lady showed no respect for our things, they were moved and/or misplaced after every cleaning.

Review 69:Nice people, cleaning was ok

Review 70:Wifi signal a bit iffy (not unusual, admittedly) Fruit selection at breakfast could be improved In truth, though, little to criticise

Review 71:10 mins from the palace in one direction and from Versailles Chantiers station in the other Good traditional breakfast - fresh bread, pastries, reasonable coffee Friendly staff Free wifi Great value

Review 72:Small space, need for renovation of flooring and carpets, limited toiletries and no electric kettle/tea/coffee or minibar in the room

Review 73:Excellent location in Versailles, very friendly service and accommodating staff

Review 74:Room/bathroom is a little tight for a family with grown children but fine for a night or two. Wifi signal was restricted to one corner of the room.

Review 75:Wonderfullly accomodating staff who didn't hesitate to allow us to our room even though we arrived long before check in time. We had a short but very pleasant stay with our family of 4. Bunk beds were good.Hotel is in a great location for the palace and cafes etc.

Review 76:Nothing really, but Paris/Versailles is generally more expensive (about 30%) than the U.K.

Review 77:Lovely staff. Location (short walk to Palace). Breakfast (good and plentiful). Pub nearby (Helios Brasserie?). Decor and cleanliness.(hotel). Free parking opposite the hotel (at weekends and night-time).

Review 78:Great location. I don't think you could get better for the price. The room is small for American standards but fits two suitcases and a couple people. The bathroom updated and clean. The bed is very comfortable.

Review 79:The rooms are in need of refurbishment, but are OK.

Review 80:The location near the palace and the train stations was perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Quiet and clean enough.

Review 81:Breakfast was not appealing. There were large stains on the carpet and the air conditioning was noisy. The room was not clean and bathroom had limited amenities.

Review 82:The location was within walking distance of the Chateau and where the Hertz Rental Agency was located.

Review 83:The bathroom was not user friendly for older people. We booked a quadrupple room and the 4th bed was a bunk. Were not made aware of this when booking.

Review 84:The room was large enough.Staff polite. No tea and coffee facilities which we find disappointing.

Review 85:The room was very small and off a small courtyard which would have been ok in fine weather. The room smelled a bit musty and vanilla room fresheners were used to try and hide it!!

Review 86:Location excellent for palace and restaurants.

Review 87:The room was pretty basic, nowhere near as nice as the pictures depicted. The walls were paper thin and we could hear every sound from the room next door.

Review 88:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent recommendations for restaurants, early check-in with no problem. Location was great, and easy walk to the Chateaux, and the market area. Bed was comfy.

Review 89:The hotel will need some upgrading in the future, as some of the carpets are starting to age.

Review 90:The hotel is clean, the staff is friendly and it is an easy walk to the Versailles. The day manager was helpful and helped us with all inquiries. The breakfast was good, staff very friendly. Not a great breakfast, but then you are not paying for the Ritz. All in all, very happy with out choice.

Review 91:I paid for a deluxe room with bigger square footage and ended up with a tiny room that we could not even open our suitcases in. If I had not questioned it, they would not have admitted that they made a mistake. There were no more deluxe rooms. We both got a free breakfast and it was good. This is a tired hotel.

Review 92:Nothing

Review 93:The hotel was clean, comfortable and well situated, and the staff friendly, welcoming and helpful. The bedroom was stylishly decorated, and the bathroom, though small, was clean and modern with an excellent powershower and hair dryer.

Review 94:We loved the close proximity to the Palace and good restaurants. The staff were very friendly and courteous. If you're looking for a basic, value for money hotel in a convenient location, this is perfect.

Review 95:French Breakfasts just seem to be costly without much selection. There was cereal and fresh orange juice, great coffee and croissants with butter/jam. Would really like to see some protein...a hard boiled egg or some cheese for my baguette!

Review 96:Overall this hotel was great. Literally a block away from the Palace Versailles made it very convenient. I was easy to find with the GPS and the public parking across the sidewalk happened to have an empty space so we were set. We visited in August and apparently it is free during August. The shower was small for a larger adult; we found out that in the renovations years ago, the bathroom was the fireplace! Wow! Big fireplace! Very usable, clean and great shower. The hotel desk person was fabulous and his dinner recommendation also turned out to be fabulous! We will go back so that we can enjoy the Palace at night as our timetable did not allow for this on this trip.

Review 97:Very helpfull by giving additional sheet because of allergie against blanket. And very helpfull in teaching us more French. And very helpfull in trying to understand us in general.

Review 98:We felt the breakfast was mediocre. We did love the fresh orange juice

Review 99:The hotel was a very short distance to the chateau. They graciously let us in our room early so we were able to get a head start for the opening of the chateau.

Review 100:Actually couldn't really fault the hotel but dinner options were very limited with no evening restaurant - only one bistro (admittedly next door and very pleasant) was open for dinner in the near vicinity.

Review 101:We really enjoyed our stay (one night stopover) and would definitely recommend to others. The staff were super helpful and friendly - the hotel oozed character and elegance. Only a 5 minute walk from Versailles Palace. Breakfast was excellent!

Review 102:Tiny bathroom and lift out of order at time of visit.

Review 103:The location was great very close to the palace, staff very helpful and room clean and comfortable. Good breakfast and wifi access.

Review 104:Most comfortable family room we've stayed in. Our children age 10 and 12 had bunk beds so we could still stay in one room. Superb location in Versailles and only 25 minute easy train ride into central Paris. Free parking outside hotel all of August! Staff very helpful

Review 105:No AC, fan mounted on the wall only. Small room, modest accommodations.

Review 106:Staff was so friendly and helpful. Location is excellent, close to train station and the Chauteu. Breakfast was fine. Room was clean.

Review 107:Room decor/furnishings are fairly basic and bathrooms are very small - but to be fair, this is a 2** hotel and all the essentials were present.

Review 108:Friendly, helpful, multilingual staff at reception. Comfy beds, good continental breakfast, fast and reliable WiFi. Location could not be improved - 5-10 mins to both Palace of Versailles and to RER (Rive-Gauche) station to Paris.

Review 109:Small problem with breakfast because the hotel ran out of bread. Apparently other guests took breakfast when they said that they weren't going to the night before. Not a huge issue but was annoying and delayed our departure a bit. Wifi ok in reception but no good in our rooms.

Review 110:Great location with helpful staff. Rooms were small but very clean and showers worked very well.

Review 111:Small bedrooms with old fashioned decor and vinyl floors. No customerservice to speak of Left a day early as it was horrible but couldn'tget our money back, it was worth it though not to have to spend anothernight there! Wifi only really worked in the main reception and I wouldlose it as I walked to my room, and yet it says wifi is availableeverywhere.

Review 112:Within easy reach of Versailles Palace.

Review 113:Large room, very quiet, 24 hour reception, great breakfast including freshly squeezed orange juice. Coffee available all day. Great location for Versailles Palace and railway station. Fan in room and sheet on bed made heat bearable

Review 114:Room was dark and tiny and very very basic. There was a view of a wall out the window. Parking a car anywhere nearby is almost impossible.

Review 115:A short easy walk to Versailles Palace

Review 116:Small rooms and shower. No a/c in warm inside rooms. Not good for summers. Parking is public on street at six euros per weekday

Review 117:Convenient to Versailles and train to Paris. Price is okay for FR

Review 118:Some staining on the carpet near the elevator on 3 floor, looked like sick!! I had to take the dog out for a toilet break very early in the morning around 4am. I had to wake the receptionist to get out and in. I apologized for the inconvenience however he barely recognized my existence and when, upon return I wished him good night, he literally looked the other way and said nothing. No-one likes getting up at 4am but rudeness is unwelcome any time of the day. He his a receptionist, and the clue is in his job title. The next day we were met by the other young man who was very helpful and very cheery, couldn't be more pleasant.

Review 119:Location was excellent and staff generally welcoming (refer to negative). Hotel had a nice style about it. Breakfast was generous ans served by very pleasant ladies.

Review 120:We were forced to move to a new room on the 2nd day as they needed the room for their personal use, after lot of delibration and unpleasant conversation, we were allowed to continue in the same room .

Review 121:breakfastroom is not stylish, but there is a very nice cafe+terrasse around the corner where you can have your coffee+croisant outside in the morning sun

Review 122:very quit room , most friendly and helpful staff and excellent location

Review 123:Perfect 2 star hotel. Staff very helpful, close to both Versailles Palace and the train station.

Review 124:nothing

Review 125:Wonderful stay, lovely hotel

Review 126:The staff where absolutely fantastic!!!!!!! And such a brilliant location

Review 127:Horrible Internet connection and speed. Some staff

Review 128:Location Some staff

Review 129:Staff were friendly, rooms clean and comfortable, excellent breakfast.

Review 130:Room is very small than I expected and there was no electric kettle.

Review 131:Very good location near the chateau de Versailles and

Review 132:We were first offered a room, with un believable smell of cigaretsmoke

Review 133:It was quiet, clean and in the center of Versailles
