Reviews for West Layton Manor
Review 1:Didn't 'dislike' anything. Location a little remote which we knew, may of been as we arrived late on a wet and miserable afternoon but felt a little depressing! Would of preferred a lounge area and maybe being offered afternoon tea on arrival. Nothing within walking distance you def need a car.
Review 2:Beautiful house immaculately kept. Breakfast really good within a gorgeous dining room. Very peaceful location.
Review 3:Warm Welcome, Fine Victorian Period Residence, beautifully furnished in period style but with modern facilities, breakfast cooked to perfection , Secluded yet so close to the wonderful Yorkshire scenery and places of interest, Evening dining just a very short drive or taxi, about 1mile max,Stuart looked after our every need aided by James the Chef in the Kitchen Department, 10 out of 10 all round.
Review 4:Not a thing... let me think... the gravel on the driveway got wedged in my walking boot, see can't think of anything negative :-)
Review 5:James was a brilliant host and extremely helpful. I wanted to move in it was such a lovely house full of charm and a really warm gentle feeling to it. Delightful - book NOW!
Review 6:The four poster bed was lovely but the mattress was like sleeping on a bag of marshmallows. The breakfast hours should be extended past 9:30 on the weekends. It does feel slightly old fashioned considering how young the owners are. Everything is cab drive away if you do not have a car.
Review 7:The detail in the rooms were great. From the small container of milk in the refrigerator to the welcome drink (Sherry) in a crystal decanter. The breakfast was great, freshly made and delivered quickly. The preserves / jams were locally made. It is in walking distance to a pub if you don't have a car (but be warned you will have to walk on the road for 5-10 minutes with cars speeding by) Owners were very friendly and accommodating. The house is full of antiques.
Review 8:Small hotel, quiet location. No children. Great decor, nice mix of antiques. Room clean and freshly decorated. Good breakfast. Credit to James and Stuart
Review 9:Nothing to dislike everything was perfect.
Review 10:Everything was perfect. Really beautiful house excellent hosts couldn't fault it. Will definetly be going back. Loved it .
Review 11:The nearest place to eat was the Fox Hall Inn which was excellent. Only trouble is, due to its and West Layton's location, we were unable to walk to it, due to it being at the side of the A66 and no footpath access to it. Otherwise, everything was lovely.
Review 12:Beautiful, quiet location with no noise from the A66. Lovely house and comfortable rooms. Visited Richmond in the evening which was very pleasant.
Review 13:the room was spotless. The whole room was tastefully and sympathetically decorated to a high spec. The breakfast was lovely and we had such a nice welcome from our hosts.
Review 14:There was a little bit of noise from next door but not after 10.30 p.m. If I was staying for leisure, it would be nice to have evening meal option.
Review 15:The building, rooms and decor - arts and craft influence Loved the sherry in the room! Lovely people who did breakfast a little earlier for me on request Goos stop for on route business

Review 21:Absolutely fantastic place to stay, only one night but a gem of a hotel, like staying in a little Downton Abbey!! The breakfast was the icing on the cake and the bed, with feather and down duvet and pillows, was heavenly!!
Review 22:Excellent service, owners very friendly and welcoming, even offered to do our ironing before we went to a wedding which was extremely kind of them, much appreciated. Breakfast superb, many homemade items, delicious. We would definitely recommend staying here.
Review 23:Lovely place to stay. Extremely friendly and cheerful owner. The room was immaculately clean, newly refurbished, bed was wonderfully comfortable. There was a high level of attention to detail that added to our comfort and happiness, including a decanter with sherry and 2 glasses - we cheerfully polished it off! Our stay was short but absolutely lovely. Very highly recommended.

Review 27:Location. Slightly remote however excellent pub restaurant 0.6 mile from front door.
Review 28:The attitude of the owners was great they made you welcome nothing was a trouble for them.
Review 29:What was not to like? The owners were fantastic - attentive, talkative and knowledgable about the area. Attention to detail. The food was sourced locally - great breakfasts. The room was immaculate. Able to come and go at anytime. Didn't want for anything.
Review 30:things that maybe could be done differently as this is a new business would be to remove the plastic tomato sauce bottles off the well laid out breakfast table, larger bath towels, remove the box that is on the heated blanket as it produces a large lump in the bed where you can feel it, less gold brocade but that is just a personal preference.
Review 31:the place was quiet and a beautiful old building, the young men running the place were welcoming and helpful the breakfast was lovey
Review 32:I loved everything about West Layton Manor including the warm welcome I received, the beautiful building with an interesting history, the comfortable room, the divinely scented Clairins toiletries, and the delicious breakfast. I only wish I could have stayed longer.
Review 33:I booked this place as a last minute get away for a night. So glad I did. You are warmly welcomed at the front door, and a glorious open fire in the reception area. Tea and cake available upon arrival. We were the first to stay in Miss Embleton room. It's gorgeous. Hand carved furniture with beautiful linens and decorations in keeping with the whole house. The bathroom is very modern and has everything you need including Clarins shampoo! Breakfast wad beautiful with local ingredients and homemade jam. I cannot recommend this listing enough!!! We will definitely be back.
