The Broadway Hotel

The Broadway Hotel descritpion
Broadway Hotel is in the Cotswold's village of Broadway, overlooking the village green in one of the Cotswold's most picturesque spots.
Broadway is considered by many as the heart of the Cotswolds. It still has a feeling of tranquility enjoyed by today's visitors. The excellent Courtyard Restaurant, complete with ebony minstrels gallery, serves the freshest local produce from the Vale of Evesham. The hotel is ideally located close to Cheltenham and Stratford.
Originally built as a rural retreat for the Abbots of Pershore. Overlooking the village green next to ancient domed yew trees is the half timber, framed and honey stoned Broadway Hotel. The 20 bedrooms have been recently refurbished to combine the country house style with all the modern amenities. This property was built in 1575 renovated in 1998.

Reviews for The Broadway Hotel
Review 1:Nothing
Review 2:The hotel is very nice, food in the brasserie was excellent as was the breakfast. The staff were all lovely. We upgraded to the Abbot's room, which is very comfortable if a tad expensive but worth it.
Review 3:No warning of scaldingly hot water in bedroom basin.Plug in bedroom basin leaked badly. Hand dryer in disabled toilet did not work.
Review 4:The food. Friendly, helpful staff. Open fires in Sitting Room & Bar. .Absence of background music. Breakfast bar.
Review 5:bedrooms very small and basic bathrooms the same and food in restaurant a rip off for the money the chef wants to go back to basics of good honest food not uncooked vegetables
Review 6:comfortable bed
Review 7:Inability to book a table in the bar dining area and having to go to the bar for service of food (i.e. No waiter service). As residents this meant we looked elsewhere to eat. Regarding bar service, it was irritating to have to wait at the bar to order. Admittedly it was between Christmas and New Year and so may have been exceptionally busy.
Review 8:Location, friendly staff, log fires.
Review 9:Breakfast was more of a catering pack than good quality. The black pudding was enormous and a less is more policy would be better. I would suggest sourcing ingredients better.
Review 10:Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 11:Lovely clean room with a comfortable bed and Molton Brown products in bathroom ( my favourite). Efficient friendly service in the restaurant. Great reception staff.
Review 12:Lovely friendly atmosphere. Cosy room which was wellappointed. Fabulous dining room with great menu and food. Well stocked bar and good cocktail selection. We had a lovely weekend.
Review 13:This was a comfortable and cosy hotel that was still stylish. The staff were without exception absolutely superb in both service and friendliness. We can't wait to go back.
Review 14:Beautiful hotel in a stunning village perfect for walking. The food was fantastic and staff so friendly. Our room was very clean and the bed was really comfortable. The hotel has a wonderful atmosphere and charm with log fires.
Review 15:Maintenance of bathroom was relatively poor. Important to have one room with accessibility - shower rather than bath, etc.
Review 16:very nice rooms and bed linen, compliant staff and anxious to please. Very well located and nice atmosphere.
Review 17:Ideal for a short stay, our room was a little too small for the price. Bathroom requires updating which is difficult in this very old building. A very good stay.
Review 18:Located in beautiful Broadway, good selection of food choices in restaurant and bar. Wonderful breakfast. Very friendly staff. Free parking.
Review 19:Lovely place but I didn't like the horse racing theme, some of the art work a bit dark and heavy, perhaps it needs a different theme, something that reflects the beautiful area that it is located
Review 20:Very and helpful staff, beautiful breakfast, great location
Review 21:It's really a rather busy pub with rooms....And if you pay more that £120 for a double B+B, rather poor value...
Review 22:Location and evening meal menu and breakfast
Review 23:The location of the Broadway Hotel was perfect for exploring the surrounding area. Staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Food was excellent.
Review 24:The twin room we were in had very noisy guests above us. We could hear them walking around until 01:30am which kept us awake. The bathroom could do with a refurbishment.
Review 25:Location is excellent, staying again for the Christmas break. Friendly, helpful staff on reception and in the bar.
Review 26:Price of drinks. Brasserie a bit too pretentious.
Review 27:Location and the bedrooms. Staff in the main were very helpful and accommodating. Thoughtfulness of putting our rooms together in one corridor.
Review 28:We weren't impressed with the food in the bar. It was a typical pub meal which wasn't reflected in the price!
Review 29:The location of the hotel is ideal. We also liked the sitting room with the log fire - very cosy.
Review 30:Because of the oldness of the building. You may be annoyed with the sound of footstep on the second floor. The toilet does not flush properly.
Review 31:The staff was very kind and gentle. You can also enjoy the local food and drink. Our rental car had trouble and stopped. One of the young male staff was very kind enough to fix it with checking the manual book. Thank to that we could continued the journey. Thank you very much.
Review 32:WiFi totally unavailable. Manager apologised and said they had serious problems and were going to install a new system.
Review 33:Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.
Review 34:the pub was often a bit overcrowded at supper time, so service was slow and food choices a bit limited.
Review 35:perfect location for our purposes--we don't have a car--- used bicycles, foot- paths and buses. Very helpful and friendly staff.Very good breakfast choices.
Review 36:Just a lovely Cotswold hotel in a central location and at a sensible price. Our room was spacious, clean and quiet. Breakfast was excellent and the staff delightful. We will definitely be booking in for a longer stay in the future.
Review 37:The shower was not very strong . The wifi was ok in downstairs but didn't work in bedroom. Even downstairs had to keep logging on which was a pain
Review 38:Very convenient and food good
Review 39:The Shower was very powerful and moved itself during a shower causing the bathroom to get a little flooded., all the wet items like wet toilet rolls were replaced very quickly and and the room was dried out for us.We only used half power on the shower after that.
Review 40:Poor continental breakfast (no ham or cheese,...) no reservations possible in the bar, noisy bathroom (boiler), bad spare bed for a child
Review 41:Private parking lot, bar atmosphere, staff friendly, lovely terrace, nice English cooked breakfast
Review 42:The WiFi was very poor, and although the staff tried hard to correct the problem, with no success. For business in the USA this was a problem.Parking was limited
Review 43:Hotel , Staff and Food Excellent, Parking limited Wi Fi very poor.
Review 44:We paid for a junior suite which was small and essentially, a double room with a partition wall. It didn't meet the definition of a suite and we felt it was a price lever more than a standard. The shower screen was not fit for purpose and resulted in a bathroom flood everytime we used the shower which wasn't expected from a significant room rate! This particular room suffered from noise pollution relating to an extractor system in the kitchen. It was in operation from 630am until 1130pm both nights. I would avoid a room near the kitchen wherever possible. The hotel offered no discount or alternative. There appeared to be a shortage of ingredients (mainly herbs, spices and berries) for making cocktails. The bar staff did try their best but not something to be expected.
Review 45:Broadway is a beautiful Cotswold village and this hotel has a vibrant bar/ restaurant in a central location. The hotel itself does many things well but, not everything. Appreciate Cotswold accommodation comes at a premium but this hotel did not provide excellent value for money.
Review 46:The welcome to the hotel & being shown to our room , all information talked about , we had booked a table for the evening in the restaurant , where we were well looked after , Alex our waiter was excellent all evening , the food was topclass & wasn't expensive , we had a lovely plate of homemade truffles with happy anniversary written on it thanks to Alex, The next morning a great breakfast selection again Alex was on duty & was again very attentive & made you feel very welcome & comfortable , making our stay very special
Review 47:There was nothing to dislike about this hotel.
Review 48:I liked the friendliness of the staff and the comfort of the hotel. The garden was great to sit in and relax. I would certainly recommend this hotel.
Review 49:There was nothing to not like.
Review 50:Everything was great. Best hotel in 3 months of 3 and 4 star hotels throughout Europe. Best breakfast too and we needed that energy for the shopping! Free easy secure parking out the back. Centre of town in The Jewel of the Cotswolds. Will definitely return and will definitely recommend.
Review 51:Not a bad experience!! Just wish you had a lift!!!
Review 52:The character of the building and it's history were charming. The combination of modern facilities complements rather than spoils the general effect.
Review 53:I booked a junior suit which was very expensive and situated on top of the air con unit for the restaurant. A] very small to be called a suite B] complete rip off for the money
Review 54:public rooms and food were good
Review 55:The bar area is nice but loud and outside visitors take away from the privacy of those guests actually staying in the hotel. We had booked two rooms. Both were ok, but rather small and the one on the lower floor was cold and damp and we could hear all the footsteps and opening/closing of doors, cupboards, etc from the room above. Wifi didn't work in the rooms, only in the common areas.
Review 56:Overall it is a nice hotel and the building has some lovely features. The staff are very friendly and helpful, there is free parking and the breakfast is amazing!
Review 57:Bathroom a let down, for £160 a night for one person, I would expect a spotless bathroom, not slightly dark patches in the tile grout, flaky paint around the window, a blind trim hanging off. Sorry bathroom a real let room down.
Review 58:Food, staff, all good bedroom good.
Review 59:This is the perfect location for a stay in the heart of the Cotswolds. A charming hotel, high standard of decor, helpful and friendly staff and excellent food. A thoroughly enjoyable stay.
Review 60:Ordered a cream tea which took ages. Not informed of the additional charge for my dog until I checked out.
Review 61:Private garden for dog although dog could jump over the wall so had to keep on the lead all the time. Could take dog into breakfast.
Review 62:Staff most helpful and engaging. Room very clean and beds comfy. Fab location. Food in bar excellent. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks to all the staff
Review 63:Waiting 50 minutes for main course at the Brasserie on our first evening. this was after asking what the delay was four times! Standard of superior room & en-suite facilities very poor.
Review 64:Excellent & helpful staff
Review 65:It was not possible to book a table in the bar area only the Tattersall restraunt.
Review 66:The hotel was excellent in all aspects, very clean and the staff were also excellent.
Review 67:Meal service poor. Waiters wandering up and down paying little attention to breakfasters. Waited so long for porridge we thought it had been forgotten Waiter refused to get drinks-you have to go to bar- despite there being only 3 occupied tables and 2 waiting staff. At dinner in Bistro had to wait 1/2 hour for order to be taken - again restaurant not busy, just inattentive staff. Could be a great place with a bit of attention
Review 68:A bit picky but we didn't like the sink being in the room (number 6) instead of the bathroom
Review 69:Love The Broadway Hotel, consistently good, staff excellent and food superb!
Review 70:Only a couple of minor points in room 30 - dripping toilet cistern and the shower could do with an upgrade.
Review 71:The staff were excellent, really friendly and efficient. The food in the brasserie was really fabulous, we had the lamb and pork dishes. We would definitely recommend staying here.
Review 72:The central heating appeared to be centrally controlled and as it was quite chilly in the evenings despite generally sunny weather, it was warmer outside than in.An excellent three star hotel
Review 73:The food, service and dining room.
Review 74:Suggest the request for breakfast in the room can be hung on the doorhandle at night and not have to be taken to reception. Replace the gate leg side table in the room - for safety. We didn't expect that type of 'collapsable' table and it was not sturdy enough for the full breakfast tray. Thankfully no one was scalded.
Review 75:Everything was perfect! Friendly staff, lovely room and excellent food.
Review 76:We were in separate lounge at front and after 11 started to feel unwelcome with lady doing cushions etc and constantly coming in muttering - whether intentional or not the message was 'are you lot still here'? Why not leave that until the morning so residents have somewhere to sit uninterrupted and late if they want to. Breakfast was a bit slow. Nice to have freshly cooked but need to take hot orders more promptly. 2 staff not really enough at peak time.
Review 77:Receptionist going the extra mile and ensuring we got something to eat when we arrived late around 9.30. Food and drink always good.
Review 78:Very poor service in the dining room. Slightly too much attitude and not enough service by the older gentleman. Once dinner was served we didn't see anyone until we requested our bill approx. 45 minutes later. On our second night the bar tender neglected to serve our drinks until I went up a third time and reminded him. This is a very old hotel which is part of it's charm but our room, number 6, requires attention to the bathroom (not clean, enough, tired, new caulking. Every time the room next door #5 uses any plumbing we heard the pipes making a fierce noise. Thankfully they slept until 6am. Further insulation required. Normally I would not bother mentioning minor details but for 140 pounds a night some standards should be maintained. Not worth the price in my opinion even if it's in the Cotswolds.
Review 79:Broadway is an exceptional Cotswold Village and provides an excellent base to tour the area. Very friendly welcome at reception. Free parking at rear of hotel.
Review 80:The room rate was a bit steep to my mind but if that is what people will pay - fair enough.
Review 81:Staff were good and the quality of the food was excellent and good value.
Review 82:Bedroom was tiny with no room to put anything. Small wardrobe had other things in the bottom so couldn't really hang clothes up. Shower was next to useless, and there was a dripping noise but we couldn't see where it was from.
Review 83:The service was fantastic with very good staff in the restaurant, bar and reception. Initially disappointed that the old bar had gone, but new decor very nice and comfortable. Dinner was amazing!
Review 84:Could not connect to the wifi even with staff help.
Review 85:Customer service was excellent. This is very important to us. The room was furnished well and not a bad size. Food was good and drinks in bar were not silly prices as it is open to the public. Although very busy in public areas we were not disturbed. Good sound proofing. Bar closed to general public at eleven.
Review 86:Despite asking several staff for help we could not get WFI which was very disappointing. Evening bar meals very disappointing .Radiator in room had no temperature control , either too hot or had to be turned off.
Review 87:Loved the position of the Hotel in Broadway. Plus the Molton Brown Toiletries and the bottled water in bedroom ( still and sparkling). The choice at breakfast was very good. Staff very friendly.
Review 88:The water pressure in the room was really bad so the shower barely worked at all
Review 89:Lovely location right in the heart of the beautiful Broadway Village Comfortable rooms, decent breakfast, bar and restaurant for dinner was also really nice Molton Brown toiletries in the bathroom
Review 90:The bar was closed before midnight, and the hotel was very warm - although it was an unusually warm day for March.
Review 91:Staff were very friendly, breakfast and dinner were excellent. Perfect location to explore Broadway and the Cotswolds.
Review 92:Limited food choice for vegetarians
Review 93:Food in restaurant was exceptional. All staff were friendly and helpful. My wife was impressed with the bath and shower products.
Review 94:Room a little bit dark but in view of the age of the building, a minor criticism. Food expensive but of good quality. Very popular with nonresidents, hard to find a seat as a resident in the bar on occasion.
Review 95:Staff friendly & courteous without exception. Location convenient. Met likeminded people.
Review 96:More attention in decor required for en-suite (looking tired) & shabby paintwork in corridoors. Very cold whilst eating breakfast.
Review 97:First class food for dinner & breakfast too. Very well presented & tempting treats for breakfast. Small but very comfortable room (3).
Review 98:The staff couldn't be more helpful. The hotel was cosy and very comfortable. The food was delicious and well priced. We would definitely stay again.
Review 99:For us Broadway is a gateway to the Cotswolds which we love; we've been here here many times usually on day trips and have never stayed at this hotel until now; what a pleasant surprise; staff are friendly and helpful, food is very good, great breakfast and very comfortable
Review 100:very warm in the downstairs restaurant and bars, (maybe just me)
Review 101:made to feel very welcome lovely room with a huge comfy bed staff all very friendly wonderful breakfast will definately be back
Review 102:This hotel is modern, with a fantastic bar area. Our room (suite) was beautifully decorated and comfortable. The staff were all friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our stay. Will be booking to come back soon :)
Review 103:the chairs are slightly low in the dining room but that is compensated for by the cushion provided if it is an acceptable way to sit by Lord Sugar it is okay by me
Review 104:From the warmth of the reception staff on arrival to the payment of the final bill the staff were excellent and quality is the only way to describe the environment and the food provided at all times Our third visit and our opinions have not changed
Review 105:Service in the restaurant on Friday night was slow, breakfast on Saturday morning also slow, an apology would have been appropriate even though we appreciate there may be problems in the kitchen an explanation wouldn't have gone amiss. The bill was incorrect because we had been charged for someone else's meals on Saturday night. This had not been sorted out by the time we checked out, that said the lady on reception was most apologetic.
Review 106:Lovely cosy atmosphere and the food was excellent. The reception staff were very helpful.
Review 107:The atmosphere in Broadway made it feel like xmas, due to it being the first late night of shopping with all the stalls, crowds and decorations lining the street plus santa arriving by horse and cart. Wonderfull !!
Review 108:Shower pressure and very bad wifi
Review 109:One of the best towns in the Cotswolds. While the restaurant menu was a bit OTT (dark chocolate and peanut butter with banana ice cream - wowza/sugar high), the food was actually quite good but we didn't go for a dessert in the end haha. Breakfast was fabulous. Really cozy stay and felt like a true English pub but redone to be very polished and luxurious. The shower head was poor with little pressure and the wifi was terrible. But those were the only complaints! Loved staying here apart from that!
Review 110:The fact that we could only stay for two nights. But we shall return early next year.
Review 111:It is a cosy Cotswold ambiance. For a relaxing real break it takes some beating. We enjoyed the log fires and good service. Chill out in warm rooms. Broadway has retained its charm, we last stayed some 25 years ago, for us nostalgia is what it used to be.
Review 112:very welcoming attentive staff. Bedrooms, restaurant and bar all excellant, with roaring log fires to wellcome you after a walk in the lovely Cotswold villages.
Review 113:The food in the bar was not as nice as in the restaurant, would always eat in the restaurant next time.
Review 114:The location was excellent, all staff very friendly and helpfull, room was very clean and had everything you needed.the restaurant was very good both for breakfast and dinner.would recommend this hotel for a cotswold break
Review 115:not much really would have liked a bath robe as it was cold range of flavoured teas was disappointing had a slight wait for bar food could be ordered but under manager/manager "got it sorted" when it arrived it was hot and was "yes" first class we have stayed at the "L----gate" across the road and there is no comparison in staff attitude quality and size of room and the food very poor in quality. we stayed there as it had pool but that was closed whilst services were being maintained
Review 116:room - décor size, facilities, soaps etc. no noise, pleasant outlook position at the end of the high street entices you to walk the whole of the high street food - choice of bar food and quality was very good Fine dining in restaurant is also good. Breakfast was one of the best and pricing was fair considering quality &quantity. I had haddock -no supplement well done environment - the atmosphere in the bar is welcoming with plenty of time to people watch and chat. the outside eating area was very clean well managed and tables spread out. the garden to the rear was expansive and had loungers and looked well maintained. Barrier at car park entrance gave feel of security
Review 117:Although breakfast & bar snacks are amazing, we did find the restaurant in the evening a little disappointing on previous visits & therefore opted to eat out at Prego
Review 118:Absolutely love the Broadway. Excellent atmosphere, friendly staff, great escape. We will be back for sure. Excellent bar menu for food & drinks
Review 119:Nothing.
Review 120:Lovely hotel full of charm and character. We had the Abbott Room. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Broadway is a lovely village and we would definitely stay again.
Review 121:The shower - which really should be converted to a wet room. VERY powerful, which was lovely, but it flooded the floor!
Review 122:Tattersall's Brasserie is a superb and surprising place to eat. Lovely ambience, friendly & helpful staff, and the food is refined and delicious! The food arrives, beautifully presented and totally delicious!! Would highly recommend this lovely brasserie! Breakfasts are also REALLY good with very generous portions, and to die for sausages! Hope you try it, and enjoy it as much as we did!
Review 123:Brasserie expensive was advised to book on line due to being popular, found only 3 tables occupied and better value in bar for food.
Review 124:Staff very friendly and helpful ,breakfast very good
Review 125:With extra beds for the kids the room were very tight but this was a minor thing.
Review 126:The location, how helpful and accommodating the hotel was, the comfort oc the beds.
Review 127:nothing really
Review 128:uneven floors and creaking floorboards also sitting room very cosy for late evening drink or coffee plus hotel on the green with a good outdoor area
Review 129:A few low beams.
Review 130:A beautiful building in a beautiful village. Great attention to detail in everything, very comfortable and well decorated rooms but still maintaining that old world charm. Excellent restaurant and breakfast. Lots of great seating outdoors both front and back as well as some cosy lounge areas. Fantastic value!
Review 131:I can't think of one thing we disliked about the village or the hotel.
Review 132:The village of Broadway is one of the most picturesque we have been to. And the Broadway Hotel was very pleasent and comfortable with excellent staff.
Review 133:Quality of sleep was an issue as there was a security light on a sensor which shone in our room and woke us up every time someone crossed the courtyard. The manager listened to our suggestion to install a blackout blind on the appropriate window.
Review 134:Food was excellent, the best I've had in ages and the staff were very helpful.
The Fine Print
