Reviews for The Union Inn

Review 1:Rooms a bit small but it is a very old inn and the communal areas could do with a freshen up

Review 2:Staff were great they looked after us well and made us feel very welcome. The veg curry was the best I have had and the breakfast was superb

Review 3:Room was a bit noisy - there seemed to be an extractor fan permanently going in the room (kitchen?) directly below. I can't think it really had to be on all night!

Review 4:Location, food & drink, staff, location all excellent. Breakfasts outstanding!

Review 5:A minor gripe but the bathroom door does not close easily and the shelf needs to be properly attached to the wall.

Review 6:Great location close to foot passenger Red Funnel terminal. Breakfast was good and staff helpful and friendly.

Review 7:From ferry terminal to go at this place was a bit annoying ci u have to go all the way around sea to get there. But enjoyed journey.

Review 8:It was nice experience, friendly staff And happy to stay again.

Review 9:Some of the rooms need full blackout blinds rather than curtains to cut out the external lights shining through the windows

Review 10:I had a lovely welcome at the Union Inn. The location is perfect. The rooms are lively and cosy and the breakfast is super

Review 11:Bedroom and bathroom a little on the small side TV not In a very good position and the central heating radiater to close to the bed

Review 12:Clean and tidy friendly staff very nice Sunday lunch

Review 13:Lovely old local pub with friendly staff (and customers!). Clean, modern rooms were recently refurbished and soundproofed so even a room over the bar was very quiet. Very good breakfast cooked to order. Great location.

Review 14:Had to keep asking for things at breakfast like a spoon to stir my coffee, bread, juice ect Nothing got replaced unless you asked. Missed item of my breakfast and me and my boyfriend has a bad stomach straight after.

Review 15:Room was ok for the money, small but everything you needed. A big/tall person would find it hard to shower as very small.

Review 16:If I had to be picky, only the fire alarm going off when we had a shower

Review 17:Amazing hospitality by all staff, especially Simon. The family room was better then we expected, very clean with lovely touches. Good food too!

Review 18:I stayed on a Saturday and was surprised that the pub closed early.

Review 19:Good location in the middle of Cowes. Nice pub downstairs. The room was comfortable and clean.

Review 20:Standard of cooking for breakfast not consistent (i.e. pancakes home cooked one day next day packet ones) wasn't sure if chef was on duty for 3 consecutive days. If 2 or more rooms came down at the same time for breakfast there was a long wait to eat. The bar area needed refurbishing - a clean carpet and new tables required - it looked dirty.

Review 21:It was near the ferry terminal. The Staff were very nice but seemed to be head cook and bottle washers they worked really hard.

Review 22:The only tweak to improve would be the toiletries which were a bit naff. Given the location, the view from the window was of the walls of other buildings.

Review 23:Fantastic location in the heart of Cowes which was surprisingly quiet. Staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was good and papers were a nice touch. We felt very welcome with our two dogs.

Review 24:Unfortunately our room was fit only for a single person, the room and en suite had no room to swing a cat. We were kindly upgraded but both rooms were over priced for what they were! The window in 2nd room was like a guilotine. There was a door stop clamped in keeping it from free falling! Completely Lethal!! We informed the staff who appeared not to know about it! But.....The housekeeper should have known if room was maintained regularly, also drawer handle falling off, no shelves in bathroom for toiletries, the absent owners must be men? All in all this hotel is a tad overpriced with no owners present to take a pride in it! The atmosphere was dull even with the bright lights which bring no warmth, this B n B can only warrent 2 stars. One for the bed and another for Location.

Review 25:The best thing about this hotel was the bed! outstanding mattress quality and the Bathroom was clean and looked recently refurbished, but no shelves made it hard to fit toiletries and such. Water took ages to become even warm!

Review 26:The tap was broken and the bathroom was quite grubby. The room was smaller than expected.

Review 27:Excellent location. Very close to the ferry terminal. Great breakfast.

Review 28:Lovely buzzy pub with great atmosphere and cheerful staff to match. Very comfortable room with everything one could need and lovely pub grub. They also have Woods rum which is a huge bonus but my wife would probably differ!!

Review 29:What is not to like, even the tourists were taking photos of this place.

Review 30:Room was quiet, very pretty and had new bathroom. Location was above the excellent old pub(which we never heard while staying in the room) the staff were friendly and carried local knowledge. The location on the high street and next to Brawns which was a top restuarant if pub food was not your thing. The Union pub do offer the best sunday roast and the morning breakfast included was ample. Great all round!!

Review 31:We loved our stay, although it was just for one night on route to Bestival and we arrived late, they were so accommodating. The breakfast was amazing and the room for four girls was lovely, bathroom great and the beds were so comfy. There was a female staff working that night and in the morning..I don't know her name but she had pink/purple hair? Anyway, she was brilliant and helped us with everything, even parking info for the next morning so we could finish our breakfast and not rush. We would definitely stay again for longer!

Review 32:No outlook from the room. Dirty carpets. Sticky tabletops. Worst Sunday roast I ever had. Inedible meat.

Review 33:The room was good. Tea and biscuits provided. Breakfast was good.

Review 34:Room not great with little storage space. No wardrobe in room 6 so had to leave most of clothes in case. Major confusion regarding car park due to Cowes week. Paid for 3 nights but only let me park for 2 so had to take car 1 mile away to park. All in all probably won't stay in Cowes again but return to West Standen farm near Newport. Pub needs revamp as some aspects very poor. Won't go there again

Review 35:The pub was ok, staff friendly. Bed comfortable. Breakfast ok with good selection.

Review 36:The shower in our room is bit difficult if you're tall (over 6ft). Also we couldn't lock the bathroom when we went out so we didn't want to leave our belongings in there. The small room has it's bathroom opposite the bedroom. When you're in the room, you can lock an additional door so you have privacy to bathroom.

Review 37:Very comfortable bed. Lovely small room. Excellent location. Was quiet even though above the pub. Staff friendly and helpful. Good breakfast.

Review 38:The Room (6) up on the third floor was very cozy, calm and comfortable. Excellent breakfast (we had the eggs Benedict and the full English breakfast). Location just in the center of Cowes.

Review 39:Bedroom very small. Shower only ran dangerously boiling water and knob fell off. They did fix it next day, but not easy to move round the bed. Bathroom door wouldn't close by 6inched, as needed the bottom shaving off. Electric plug from lamp beside bed broken with wires visible, so dared not use it. Bar very scruffy.

Review 40:Location very convenient. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Review 41:The shabby, tiny, low ceilinged room. The tiny bathroom with a damaged shower and toilet under the eaves so I couldn't wee standing up.

Review 42:The location.

Review 43:to much light through the windows at night

Review 44:the old house with great equipped rooms. Every room is different and done with a lot of Phantasie. Very friendly staff

Review 45:I was a bit disappointed I had to wait for breakfast so longer. Lady forgot to bring ketchup as I asked for it.

Review 46:Good location, good facilities, lovely big room and reasonable price.

Review 47:There's no reception as it's in a pub which was strange as you wait in the middle of a small pub with cases but when you get to the room you will be surprised how nice it is and there is everything you need.

Review 48:Friendly staff, lovely food, nice rooms, amazing shower! Good location.

Review 49:Our fault, we were on the second floor and, because of mobility issues, it was a challenge to climb up those two flights of stairs !

Review 50:Staff, breakfast and, on the whole, the facilities

Review 51:The B&B was clean and comfortable. Staff were accommodating and polite. Bed was very comfortable and Bathroom was pleasantly spacious and modern. Would recommend this B&B

Review 52:Great location, very friendly helpful staff, immaculate and comfortable room, good bar food, good breakfast. No onsite parking, car park very close but is chargeable... Would definitely stay again and highly recommend....

Review 53:Wi-fi rather slow and erratic, but only a minor grumble as we were out most of the time.

Review 54:Lovely and cosy, friendly staff, good beer (according to OH) and pet friendly - would definitely return. Enjoyed pub quiz and accoustic music on consecutive nights.

Review 55:The room was well apointed with us being asked prior to our arival how we would like the beds set up as we were in a family room. The staff are excellent the breakfast was spot on and oh that beer. A proper friendly bar. Brilliant, we will return.

Review 56:We found parking easily on the front, less than a minute walk from the Inn, but in height of season it might be a lot trickier.

Review 57:Lovely room and great value night away

Review 58:The fact I had to leave!

Review 59:The food was just divine! The staff were so helpful and always to hand and the bedroom was so gorgeous, really cosy with the most amazing bed I've ever slept in! Also the location is second to none, right in the town of Cowes, walking distance of all the shops etc

Review 60:No lift, third floor and little head room.

Review 61:Couldn't fault the service and staff. Great value for money. We were top floor though without a lift and difficult with young children, buggies and suitcases. But if you're independent and travelling light, this place is highly recommended.

Review 62:Tatty communal areas

Review 63:Fantastic quaint pub with B&B right in the heart of Cowes. Hop off the Hover and you're at the bar for a hot toddy (it was Winter) in less than 5 mins.Bedrooms really lovely and beds very comfy. Staff helpful and cooked brekkie was done to perfection.

Review 64:Warm fire, bedrooms and staff. Locals in pub where very nice too. Bedroom had nice and quirky decor. Heating kept us nice and warm. Nothing worst than cold bedroom! Lovely location. No Parking on site but plenty about 100 yds away. Will go back.

Review 65:There were problems with Wi- Fi in our room (connection kept dropping and the overall speed was very slow (e.g. several minutes to load one page)). Moreover, the mobile network coverage (we use vodafone) in our room was also very weak. So weak that browsing on the mobile data was impossible.

Review 66:The pub is cosy and breakfasts are very, very generous.

Review 67:Nothing, it was as described in info prior to booking

Review 68:Welcome on arrival Good sized room Clear information Quiet considering location Good breakfast

Review 69:Wifi was a little slow but to be honest not a issus as b&b was brilliant.

Review 70:Staff where welcoming and b&b felt homely. Beds where outstandingly comfy like sleeping on air. Rooms where well kept and to a high standard nice a warm and heating on all night.

Review 71:Only comment was that I wasn't told beforehand there was a charge for the dog. Not a problem at all but just would have been good to have known before the bill was handed over at the end.

Review 72:Pretty much everything. Staff were lovely, room was great size, clean, good toiletries, great breakfast, perfect location .....all great!

Review 73:Our room was at the front of the building, directly under the street light left on all night. As there was no blackout lining on the new windows, our room was bathed in light during the night which made sleeping difficult.

Review 74:Very clean, friendly staff, excellent food.

Review 75:The shower was good and hot but the shower head was a bit tricky to contain the water but I got the hang of it on shower 2.

Review 76:Staff were very friendly and the room was recently refurbished. Decent sized mugs for morning tea. Nice white linen and duvets are always a welcome site!

Review 77:In the bathroom of room 1 there needs to be a shelf under the mirror to put your toothbrush etc...Small cherry tomatoes not ideal for breakfast as are likely to burst all over you. Leaky teapots, dog barking at you every time you enter your bedroom not so good If scared of dogs.

Review 78:The bed was really comfy, the location you couldn't ask for better. Bar staff very friendly and could have a late breakfast and car parking great, free until 10 am on the seafront..

Review 79:The bathroom door in room 1 is a struggle to shut and coffee could be better (stronger) in the morning, but these are minor niggles in what was a lovely stay.

Review 80:Comfy bed, quiet room and really nicely decorated. The staff are friendly, and the pub downstairs is lovely.

Review 81:I booked the Union Inn for a weekend away with my partner. On arrival we were greated by the friendly bar staff, who showed us to our room and made us feel welcome. The hotel/pub is perfectly located for Cowes with quick access to the sea front, bars and restaurants. Some reports mention noise from the pub below, but during the weekend we were not disturbed once (we stayed in Room 4) - in fact we slept so well that we missed breakfast both mornings! The rooms were clean and tidy with a boutique feel - absolutely perfect for a weekend stay!

Review 82:Room was quite small. A lot smaller than it looked on the picture! The bed wasn't very comfortable. As the rooms are part of a pub, there was a lot of noise until 1am where people were talking outside and smoking. The later it got the louder the talking got! Went away to try and catch up on sleep and it didn't happen!

Review 83:Location was very good and lots of character to the pub and property.

Review 84:We had a pub sign outside our bedroom window with a light over it. Hence the room was constant daylight at night, the noice was unbearable until around 2.30am then silence.hate to complain as we really enjoyed our stay .

Review 85:We loved our stay in Isle of Wight.. Accommodation was comfortable as far as bed was concerned.. The staff were lovely and the food was amazing...

Review 86:Wobbly bed. Stairs could be a problem for people with wobbly legs.

Review 87:Pretty room with good supply of teas and coffee and toiletries. Very quaint, it suited us as we are homesick ex patriots!

Review 88:The first 2 days of our stay the breakfast was very salty the 3rd day it was very good so maybe a different chef.

Review 89:The location is excellent. Our room was rather small but cosy

Review 90:The shower in the first room wasn't fantastic. The second shower home rev was great. I think people's experience does depend on the rooms they are in. Another com was that we went down for dinner at 8pm on the Sunday to which we were told they only serve till seven. This would have been useful to know at check in.

Review 91:My friends and I booked the last room on the island for the August bank holiday. We didn't pick this place and didn't really have any expectations. We showed up dead on check in time. The staff were very friendly and knew who we were when we arrived. The room took a further half an hour or so to get ready but we were happy to grab a cup of tea in the bar. The room was a good size and the beds were so comfortable. We were on the top floor so the pub noise on the Friday night did not bother us. We checked out on the Saturday am and left our bags with them. We were doing a charity event so did not need the room that night. We did however need to stay on the Sunday too. We phoned early on the Sunday, 8am, and asked if we could check in early and they were so accommodating. The staff said as soon as someone had checked out at 11 they would clean that room and ring us. They did this before 11 and we were in the comfy beds again in no time. I would also like to say in response to other reviews, yes there is some noise from the bar but it is not open all hours. If you like to be asleep very early then maybe ask for a top floor room, otherwise don't elect to stay above a pub on a weekend. If you don't mind going to bed at eleven then enjoy a quaint pub in the heart of town with brilliant staff and great breakfast options.

Review 92:very noisy until 2 30am never known anything so bad avoid room 5 above front door also breakfast tables felt grimy

Review 93:room was fine and young girl in morning v good trying to cope with breakfast and checkouts on her own

Review 94:The rowdiness outside after we went to bed.... Had to shut the windows.

Review 95:Jody was brilliant.. Managed to laugh and joke even though she was always busy. Even at breakfast she was still smiling! would most definitely stay there again.

Review 96:Our evening meal was so bad we couldn't eat it. I would not have served it up at home and it was only a burger. Even the bar staff admitted the chips were dreadful.

Review 97:Friendly staff location was perfect Nice old world pub

Review 98:Liked everything

Review 99:The location was amazing. The rooms cute with all the amenities you need. I love that you could walk into town or to the sea. Breakfast was yummy with many choices.

Review 100:Room set up was rather odd - listed as en-suite, but there was a corridor (which could be locked) between the bedroom and the bathroom, which had a window in it. Not ideal when the bathroom is too small to get changed in. Bathroom a little dirty - mould in the grouting, and shower cubicle tiny. Would not fit a tall adult! Milk for cereal in the morning was off.

Review 101:Evening meal in the pub was tasty.

Review 102:Too expensive for small bedrooms, sticky breakfast table

Review 103:Very nice room but a little too small for the price perfect location, just 1 minute from the see, the rooms were clean, the breakfast table no it was all sticky. Too expensive.

Review 104:Our bedroom window was (5 foot)immediately above the pub entrance which had an extended licence until 2am. Yes, it was noisy and disturbed our sleep. Maybe that room should not be booked on those occasions, or for a very reduced rate from £109 we paid.

Review 105:interesting room decoration

Review 106:Bit noisy if you wanted to go to sleep before 1am 3 sharing a room meant you couldn't actually get to the wardrobe

Review 107:Location Comfy bed Powerful shower Double aspect room Nice runny poached eggs!!

Review 108:What a lovely B&B. The rooms are lush, the beds and pillows divine. Lots of nice touches (won't spoil the surprise if you stay here ;-)). I am definitely coming back ...
