Reviews for Ramside Hall Hotel & Golf Club
Review 1:They had no movies on the tv and the most basic of cable. Couldn't fall asleep because of jet lag and this was a downer.
Review 2:Very comfortable room, nice staff and the spa is incredible.
Review 3:The superior rooms, recently refurbished, are absolutely amazing. One of the best hotel rooms I've ever stayed in. You get complimentary access to the spa.. pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. There is another section you can pay £50 per couple to access, but we didn't bother. The pool is amazing! Room was spotlessly clean. If you want to eat at the Rib Room, book in advance. We ended up eating after 9pm as we hadn't booked!
Review 4:I paid for an up-grade and when I arrived the room was given to another guest and my room was next to reception therefore I had no sleep all night. It was a complete waste of money
Review 5:Rib Room food on the whole was delicious apart from the scallop starter they destroyed it with a covering of what can only be described as powder yuk! The chef needs to change this ASAP! Also this room was cold.
Review 6:Friendly stall, Beautiful room and hotel. Great choice and delicious breakfast,Fusion restaurant food delicious, Rib Room Fillet steak yum.Close to Durham. Peaceful relaxing stay. Thank You
Review 7:There was honestly nothing I didn't like about my stay
Review 8:Loved the spa also being able to have a glass of wine poolside was so relaxing the atmosphere which was created through the lighting made it perfect
Review 9:Service was a little slow. I think all the spa pools should be open to Hotel guests especially at quiet times.
Review 10:Room was amazing. Food was great. Spa had great facilities. Beautiful location plenty to do. Overall a fantastic stay. Would be happy to highly recommend it to anyone.
Review 11:We were not impressed by the carvery restaurant the vegetables were frankly awful' we had coffee and toast for breakfast and when one of our party had one croissant he was charged £9.50 which was shocking.
Review 12:Our room was of a high standard The lounge areas were very comfortable The Spa was first class and all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We loved the Fusion Restaurant equally for Breakfast and dinner.
Review 13:Due to heavy rain the roof was overflowing all night and it was difficult to sleep. We were in the old part of the Hotel and were told by the receptionist that the only access was via the bar / restaurant, a long walk with bags. There was in fact a much nearer exit and entrance.
Review 14:Location, facilities, convenience of carvery meal, polite and helpful staff, good facilities in room.
Review 15:It's a popular venue for functions so if you are likely to be affected by noise, it might be worth checking the room is away from the function room.
Review 16:Comfortable, clean and friendly staff. The heater in the room was not working but the matter was sorted immediately and there was a follow up call to check we were warm enough and everything was okay a little later.
Review 17:The food was fantastic , the staff are very professional and always pleasant and attentive . The staff in the spa area were also very professional and made you feel at ease which only made the use of the facilities even more enjoyable all in all a fantastic place just to chill and relax will be returning very soon and hopefully might even try to get a round or two of golf in !
Review 18:The carvery restaurant is very disappointing in both layout and quality. Having been a regular visiter when I lived in the area 20 years ago I feel there has been little change and what has changed has not been for the better.
Review 19:Room was spacious and very comfortable.
Review 20:Be warned when using the Spa your not allowed to order drinks by the poolside if you havent left your credit card details with reception so dont do what I did pay the bill then pay at the bar its a very poor show when the staff cant be more helpful especially when your sat watching other people enjoy a cool drink.
Review 21:The room.
Review 22:Being a younger couple we didn't get treat as well as others, we weren't told their was a first come first served scenario on late checkout in the morning which others had, we were refused a champagne bucket but when my Mam rung she got one straight away without questions. The fuse in our room had tripped twice during getting ready due to a faulty iron and our shower did not work properly as the dial was stiff and wouldn't turn all the way around so the water was a treacle, not good when getting ready for New Years!
Review 23:The two female staff on reception where brilliant at getting me and my boyfriend a taxi service into Durham centre and back for New Year's Eve night, they were extremely helpful!
Review 24:I was staying here with my mother and son as a little get away for the night. When we went down to the pool area, it was our first time, we didn't know how things worked. We didn't know where to go etc. So we asked the ladies on reception, one woman looked at me as if I was a piece of muck on the floor. I felt like I was on pretty woman, she asked if I was staying I said yes and she wanted proof. There was a few other guests behind me and I felt so little. It knocked me sick.
Review 25:Beautiful hotel with beautiful facilities. I have booked back up to come for my birthday. Never experienced the relaxation like it. Thank you
Review 26:Bed was very uncomfortable, poor lighting in the room, additional costs for spa and only allowed in at certain times, breakfast table was difficult to eat from as was more like a coffee table, key cards on all 7 rooms were faulty and at times people were locked out of there room
Review 27:Staff were very friendly, helpful and polite.
Review 28:The only thing I did not like was when we got in to our bedroom the bed sheet had a black stain on which we thought was mascara. Which was the only thing that put me and my partner of.
Review 29:Had a wonderful night. A last minute stay over. The lady who check me and my partner in was very lovely and helpful.
Review 30:The self service breakfast was poor. We were sat at table and told to help ourselves but were given no guidance of where to find things. No instructions on how to order porridge or vegetarian sausage. Breakfast was cold and of poor quality.
Review 31:The spa facilities were excellent. The pool was huge. Next time we will pay the extra to access the other pools and saunas. Plenty of towels. But a lack of hooks made keeping track of towels and gowns difficult.
Review 32:The staff on reception were very helpful and friendly. The extension (Spa) and extra facilities have improved Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf club considerably. A major plus for this place is the car park. Easy access and no difficulties.
Review 33:The staff and service were brilliant, very helpful, the place was beautiful clean and comfortable, i had no issues would definately recommend and go back
Review 34:Thai Fusion restaurant was only just OK, nothing special. Authentic Thai would have been much better and a much better option. Wish I had booked steak house.
Review 35:Spa passes were well worth the the extra spend. Outside pool was great.
Review 36:There was an empty water bottle down the side of the bed when we arrived to our room & also items missing out of the selection available to be purchased which I had to report so we weren't charged. My partner booked this trip as a surprise for out first year anniversary and the staff were aware of this as a note was made on our booking and it was mentioned, by them, on check in. Upon arrival to the room we requested a bucket of ice as we had taken a bottle of champagne to celebrate and we we're refused. The receptionist said no and that if we wanted ice we had to purchase a bottle of their wine.
Review 37:Large comfortable rooms, friendly welcome...chocolates in our room as an anniversary gift, gorgeous food, great atmosphere. Breakfast brought to our room at the exact time we requested. Will definitely return.
Review 38:self service breakfast arrangements and seating accommodation not in keeping with the rest of the hotel Frozen brownie served up on hot counter and no follow up on complaint
Review 39:Roomy bedrooms, excellent residents lounge with tea/coffee facilities and real fire. Nice ambiance.
Review 40:The food lets the hotel down. Breakfast was not of the same standard and certainly not worth 12.95. over cooked bacon, undercooked potatoes, dry croissant and only coffee and tea served to the table.
Review 41:Rooms beautiful, above average furnishings and toiletries. Excellent full size swimming pool. Lovely range of lounges with complimentary coffee for residents.
Review 42:My room was quite a stretch from the spa and a bit on the small side. OK for one person I guess. Breakfast was OK but disapponted with dinner in the Thai resteraunt. did not think it was value for money
Review 43:Loved the pool but bit disappointed to find that with a black arm band I could not progress through to the warmer section. The temp. of the main pool was ok but you had to keep moving
Review 44:The room was cold on arrival and stayed cold. Only one electric heater, which kept switching itself off, so the room was cold through out our stay. There was no hot water to take a bath or shower. We only learnt when checking out that, we needed to run the tap for 15 min to get hot water?? This is the 4 star hotel, isn't it? What 4 star hotel makes you run the tap for 15 min to get the hot water???
Review 45:the staff was friendly. The bed was comfortable. Plenty of parking spaces.
Review 46:We had a small standard double room and it was small and a little jaded. The bathroom was tiny. Spotlessly clean. However I suppose we could have upgraded.
Review 47:On check in at reception we were met by friendly, helpful staff. Victoria dealt with us.The staff throughout go out of their way to help you. The main Christmas tree is fabulous. The new spa is lovely. We ate in the carvery in Pemberton's lounge and it was very nice. This was our 4th visit and we will definitely be back.
Review 48:staff organisation at breakfast was abysmal. 4 adults seated at 2 seater {max} table; no fruit/cereal dishes; no {clean} hot food plates and hot food mildly warm. needs drastic attention! so sad beautiful hotel.
Review 49:comfort cleanliness reception staff and lounge staff excellent. food and service at booked event also excellent.
Review 50:Staff were very helpfully food was lovely had a carvery and the spa facilillities and out door pool were brilliant and all available to use after 3pm with your stay very clean staff are well presented and smart enjoyed my stay and will be visiting again very soon for my birthday xxx
Review 51:Room too dark and a lot of noise from the corridor. Not a good response from one of the management staff when we complained about the no ice from the function room.
Review 52:Good gym and pool.
Review 53:The staff were not so great..., failure to acknowledge when they were informed that my partner was joining us later after check in, when he arrived he was informed there was no reservation and that was it...,. No offer of attempting to resolve situation by checking the reservations, we had booked a meal for the evening waited 1.5 hrs before being offered bread etc and that only happened after complaining twice !! Breakfast staff were not a bit interested no welcome morning smile, no direction of how breakfast was served, not even taken to a set table basically left to find a free set up table!!
Review 54:The location was fab, great facilities
Review 55:The path at the main entrance was being relaid , it was dark when we arrived and it wasn't clear how to access the hotel .
Review 56:Helpful staff, smooth check in . Lovely room , nice decor and toiletries in bathroom .
Review 57:Spa staff not interested in customer service
Review 58:Excellent hotel and staff. Food very good if pricey. Spa staff not on same level as hotel staff - more training needed.
Review 59:I was so happy with my stay at your hotel until I ordered the surf and turf off your room service menu it cost me 42 pounds and was not to a standard that deserved that price tag what so ever u really need to make sure that your lobster is fresh and cooked correctly and you should offer more value for money as this was not satisfactory and was the only gripe I could find within the hotel other than that thank you as you have a delightful hotel please address this 1 point and I now you will be one of the most successful premises within your sector kind regards Robbie
Review 60:the hotel and spa facilities are perfect and I don't say that to often and staff are very kind and helpful I really do think your hotel is of a high standard and one of the best I have visited within the North East of England
Review 61:Our room was fine, but I would not have liked to stay in the ones in the corridor between reception and the bar. People passing all the time, could be vet noisy at night.
Review 62:Comfortable, homely hotel.
Review 63:The pillows which should have been feather. Lack of soundproofing and sound travelling loudly through bathroom and possibly air conditioning unit. Noisy housekeeping staff in hallway. Poor quality and xxl dressing gown and slippers. Cumbersome mugs. Needed a well lit mirror close up. The unlit road to hotel, very hazardous if walking. Bed quality. Not as good as Premier Inn and joining two single beds is never a good idea when you can feel the ridge down the middle.
Review 64:The bathroom, toiletries, public areas, reception etc, quality of sheets, towels, size of TV, hospitality tray, size of room, the views, room service.
Review 65:The noise from passing guests on the corridor outside our room meant that it was difficult to relax. It also meant two disturbed nights sleep due to the noise from late night revellers. The hotel seriously needs to think about this problem.
Review 66:This is a great hotel in a great location but to have deluxe bedrooms opening onto a main thoroughfare means that one can hear everyone walking past. Compound this with late night revellers and our sleep was very disturbed.
Review 67:that we had to leave :-(
Review 68:The hotel room was beautiful, very clean and well worth the money. Was a little cold on arrival but a quick call to reception and that was sorted We went for a romantic weekend break and romantic it was the hotel lived up to expectations and more. Very Christmassy feeling which was a bonus loved every minute of our stay The rib room food albeit quite expensive was amazing
Review 69:Nothing
Review 70:My partner was in an accident and I tried to move the room booking but it was not possible so we still came to the hotel. The staff were amazing and we were upgraded by the concierge to a larger room with easier access for my partner. Everyone was very helpful and even just walking past the staff the all smiled at you. Brilliant hotel brilliant service and the food in your rib room was amazing
Review 71:The negative experience you have if you are using cash opposed to card made our time very difficult/awkward and needs addressing ASAP when the hotel and facilities were great
Review 72:Spa facilities fantastic wonderful room and meal in the rib room
Review 73:Real fires at this time of year would have been welcome. Four poster bed not as seen in photos on web site, was comfy but decor a little dated.air con rather cold in lounge for time of year.
Review 74:Nothing to dislike
Review 75:Can't fault any thing we stayed in a premier room which wos amazing spotlessly clean beautiful bathroom loved the pool and spa breakfast wos great everything you cud possibly want.loved it so much booked again for december
Review 76:Noisy neighbours in room next door. It seemed as though they I would guess at 6-10 people were involved well into the early hours of the morning. The waste water mechanism from the washbasin was faulty. This problem was to my mind known to the hotel, prior to our stay
Review 77:staff attitude was very good
Review 78:Be aware re the charges and cost of breakfast. If you book direct it's only £9.95 so I booked when I got there and also the following evening I asked if I needed to book breakfast and they said no just turn up but I ended up being charged the full £12.95 and I'm still not sure why even though I queried it with reception. As I was paying for myself and my daughter on both days it meant £12 more. Also we had the carvery and on Sunday evening it was very tired if you know what I mean. I think their busy for it during Sunday lunch but it looked like in the evening it had been sitting around a long time especially the veg (grey peas not a good look really)I had a great urge to suggest they cook less and leave it sitting around less too. Plus I'm very health conscious and although the breakfast was OK the eggs were literally swimming in oil which isn't great. Also be warned the pool although beautiful is cold they said it was meant to be 30C there is no way it was I couldn't really enjoy relaxing in it but having said that the spa itself is lovely and I would have liked to try a treatment if I'd been able to plan ahead more.
Review 79:I had to go up to Durham family emergency for my daughter and my usual hotel was booked so this was the first time here. I liked the location as good for me and staff were friendly. The room was lovely especially for the price.
Review 80:The hotel was fabulous stayed in the new premier room which was lovely and tasteful. The staff were excellent and couldn't do enough to help us. Special thanks to the check in staff and bed manager (beverley) who listened and went out of there way to help me. Many thanks and much appreciated.
Review 81:On the Saturday night there was an event with very loud music which kept me awake as the thudding shook the windows and it was heard over the TV - this went on until midnight although it should have stopped at 11pm and then in the morning the young family in the next door room woke us up before 6am shouting as the walls were very thin ! We also had one dirty used slipper in our pack of 2 pairs ..................
Review 82:Good location and enjoyed using the pool - the staff were very helpful. We ate one night in the hotel and the food was yummy and the hotel guest lounge was lovely to sit in although quite noisy as it is right by reception.
Review 83:A bit noisy when other guests arriving home early hours . Although room was lovely the picture of our chosen De-lux room featured a free standing roll top bath, As it was our 30th wedding anniversary I was looking forward to a glass of champaine and bubble bath Photo of room a bit misleading.
Review 84:breakfast very good. Lovely Rib room restaurant fantastic steak. staff friendly and helpful. room comfortable and clean. Able to leave car and get the local bus into city centre.
Review 85:See above
Review 86:We asked for a late check at 1:00 pm. They knocked on our door twice at 11:00am, and the cleaner basically called us liars outside of our room, to the reception
Review 87:Friendly and warm hotel staff extremely polite and cheerful. Spa and Gym facilities clean and very well presented. Excellent choice of restaurants along with a clean and tidy room with an awesome shower.
Review 88:N/A
Review 89:The hotel layout was lovely and it was very well presented. The bedroom and bathroom were fantastic and very comfortable. The staff were great and helped at every occasion and the facilities were superb.
Review 90:pillows a bit on the hard side, but thats us ,everything was superb ,look forward to are next stay, thanks,Darron&Stephanie,Hebburn
Review 91:the hotel is spot on, evening meal ,help yourself carvery was to die for, very reasonably priced to,cheerful staff, rooms are large and well looked after, facilities are superb, thanks Darron&Stephanie,Hebburn,
Review 92:Came for a relaxing break with fiance. Room was next to generator that made noise from early in the morning until late in the evening & could be heard through double-glazed windows. Asked if it was possible to be moved and told not possible unless willing to upgrade. Went to reception to leave & another room suddenly became available at the end of the corridor. Have experienced this kind of hotel "service" before so took our money and ran!!
Review 93:Room was nicely made up.
Review 94:WIFI not working - hard to connect to 3G to do work. Frustrating but has been ok previously.
Review 95:Gym is one of the best in all hotels I stay in. Food is good. Reception check in - very friendly.
Review 96:Sticky breakfast menu and tables could do with a wipe down! No hooks for towels or robes in the bathroom had to put towel over the shower screen or on the end of the bath. These are minor points still had a great 2 night stay .
Review 97:Facilities very good especially liked the residents sitting area with tea and coffee available, living flame fire and Christmas tree very homely ! I will be staying for a week in Dec on business can't wait looking forward to the breakfasts.
Review 98:Lack of information regarding amenities not clearly to hand in reception or room. No notification that we needed to book the rib room restaurant before arriving for a celebratory meal so we were not able to get a table there ( apparently it is open to non residents )
Review 99:Location and general aspect was good. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 100:Let me make it very clear, there is absolutely nothing to dislike in this hotel !!!!!!!!!!
Review 101:A beautifully kept hotel with truly excellent facilities and extremely helpful and friendly staff.
Review 102:The bathrooms were ok but need consideration. The family room for 4 did not have adequate storage for suitcases etc; felt overcrowded.
Review 103:The staff on reception were exemplary. The night door men were very helpful. The Philipinno waitress at breakfast was delightful and gracious.
Review 104:for the price you pay breakfast should be included, parking facilities need to be better had to walk a distance
Review 105:having a bath,,,not many hotels nowadays offer a bath
Review 106:Found food and drink VERY expensive also there was a lot of us staying and we all payed different amounts for the same room when quering this the reception staff could not give an answer
Review 107:Rooms and hotel was very nice staff was very pleasent
Review 108:massive car park but initially had to park quite a distance from hotel reception due to leisure club, golf club and wedding function although understandable. Could pose a problem for someone with impaired mobility.
Review 109:The whole package was excellent. Staff helpful, room very comfortable and had use of leisure facilities.
Review 110:The carvery was poor, veg horrible, no one to point out where to go, whether to pay before or after etc. It influenced our decision not to eat at the Rib Room the following evening and to go out.
Review 111:The room and spa were great, short walk to the park and ride into Durham. Staff very helpful
Review 112:Nothing.
Review 113:Had a lovely stay here, staff really friendly and helpful at both reception and spa. The food at fusion was delicious. The bed was so comfy didn't want to leave :)
Review 114:We were given the room above the function room, where a wedding was happening. It sounded like we were above the dj box. Extremely noisy. Didn't have choice of getting to sleep before wedding had ended. No option for a room change however we were given a complete refund.
Review 115:Location and choice of restaurants. Beautiful lounge areas
Review 116:We had wanted to all get together over breakfast with the newly weds. Due to the multi room breakfasting layout, many of the group were in another room.
Review 117:Reception staff (Simon), gave great assistance in tracking down a late night taxi when we were stuck in Seaham following our Son's wedding.
Review 118:Everything!! The hotel itself was immaculate and our room was stunning, we especially loved the huge bed. We also bought the spa pass which was excellent value for money and it was absolutely perfect, couldn't have chose a better place to celebrate our first year anniversary so thank you Ramside!!
Review 119:Room wasn't ready until 1.5 hours after official check in time which is disgusting for the price paid. This meant after 4 hours of traveling I then I had to sit in reception for 1.5 hours.
Review 120:Staff friendliness
Review 121:Four Poster room, Well equipped bathroom, comfortable bed. Lovely breakfast with many choices available. Pleasant friendly staff. Would definitely recommend!
Review 122:We had to wait about an hour for our room which had an impact on our plans for the day.
Review 123:The staff were amazing, extremely friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Philippa on reception was particularly helpful with future plans we have at the hotel and she should be commended for her, professionalism, attitude & manner. We ate in the Rib Room and the food and service was excellent. Our room was beautiful, comfortable & the shower was the best We have ever experienced (fabulous water pressure) ?
Review 124:Water pressure in the bathroom not too good! That I did not take my golf clubs. Excellent facilities for golf. Shame about the deluge of rain. Not the hotel's fault.
Review 125:We have been to the Ramside Hall before. Astounded to see the Spa. Both of us had a massage treatment. Brilliant facilities and staff in the Spa and hotel. Food was excellent. Very close to the great city of Durham and the excellent town of Newcastle. Staff were excellent.
Review 126:Room 406 is above the kitchen with a large commercial extraction fan right outside the window very very noisey it was roaring til 10.30 in the evening
Review 127:All day carvery
Review 128:When I booked I was told children were allowed in the pool areas between certain times, which is completely understandable being a spa but when I went in the required times we were only allowed in one of the two pools with our little boy and the pool we were allowed in was cold, an adult would find that cool but I find it unreasonable to expect a 4month old baby to go into that when there was a perfectly warm hydrotheorpy pool next door which we could not use although we were in the family slots allocated as I can't see what harm a baby would cause other guests
Review 129:The rooms were fantastic, a brilliant size and brilliant value for the money. The breakfast was one of the best I have ever had
Review 130:No porter. No birthday wishes for my partner, despite telling them before our arrival. No advance warning that you'd have to pay EXTRA just to use the main swimming pool. Loud kitchen staff at breakfast cackling in the kitchen.
Review 131:Booming music until 00.30 keepING us awake / the double bed was two singles pushed together, with a gap in the middle (not at all romantic) / shower head, kettle and hair dryer broken / attitude of management was that since we only paid £68.00 this was all acceptable, although we did eventually get an apology and small refund for what was a terrible experience.
Review 132:The location and free access to the swimming pools, which we would have used if we could have slept.
Review 133:First night we heard doors opening and Closing. After explanation to manager a very comfortable free upgrade was given. Although a path needs to be made to the bus stop.
Review 134:Staff very friendly and helpful. Complementry fruit and milk, lovely cup of tea. Great view, room very comfortable.
Review 135:On our second evening in the allocated room, 225, we noticed an extremely large area of black mould behind a curtain. We drew this to the attention of the reception staff who could not have been more helpful in immediately relocating us to an identical room elsewhere in the hotel, apologised for our having been put in a room which was clearly one which should not be occupied by anyone. It is, however, very worrying that the management of a four star hotel should be in apparent blissful ignorance of an extensive area of unsightly and potentially health-damaging fungal mould within one of its rooms. It would seem to me either that the management did know but still chose to let the room or that genuine ignorance of the state of the fabric of the interior of the hotel is indicative of a lack of routine day to day - (or even month to month) - checking of rooms' cleanliness.
Review 136:Large room. Not noisy at any time.
Review 137:The cooked breakfast was a buffet service and was cold. I complained and 2 breakfasts were cooked especially for us. Did feel however that a cold breakfast would be the norm with this buffet service.
Review 138:The room was beautiful, large, clean and very comfortable and quiet. The bathroom was fabulous.
