Reviews for Bridge House Hotel
Review 1:Quiet, comfortable and clean room with nice wooden beams and ensuite bathroom. Dog friendly accommodation which was a bonus for our last minute change of plans!
Review 2:Room furniture a little tired. No lift so good job we didn't have a heavy case or mobility problems
Review 3:Staff were pleasant and helpful Breakfast was excellent
Review 4:An unpleasant smell on entering the hotel...Rubbish shower!
Review 5:Great location with parking! comfortable beds & friendly landlord & lady...Excellent breakfast!
Review 6:The downstairs wine bar was a bit pricey.
Review 7:The owner was very pleasant and carried our luggage both in and out again. We also were given a free upgrade which was very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent.
Review 8:Shower temperature was a little temperamental.
Review 9:A friendly and comfortable hotel in easy reach of restaurants and bars. On site parking and friendly, helpful and proficient staff. Lovely en suite room and great breakfast. Would certainly return.
Review 10:The bed was very comfortable. The room was a good size with two leather arm chairs also very comfy. All the staff were extremely helpful and accommodating which made our trip really enjoyable. Bob´s breakfast was great and set us up for the day. Excellent.
Review 11:No bad experience but the room was rather small for the price. It was a double but........
Review 12:Friendly attractive old house which has turned into an excellent hotel. All staff are very helpful and friendly
Review 13:Nothing not to like, at a push could say some of the communal areas need a little decor upgrade, but all part of character. Very nice place.
Review 14:An exceptionally friendly and helpful welcome (I needed help planning onward journey); very comfy bed and fabulous breakfasts. Not knowing Bridport, I felt I'd struck lucky with my choice of accommodation.
Review 15:Staff were pleasant but it felt to me they weren't enjoying what they did.
Review 16:Breakfast was good and the hotel was clean and tidy. Had no trouble parking in the car park when I arrived.
Review 17:My Aunt and I had a lovely stay. There was a very warm welcome and friendly staff. The lady who cleaned my room found two rings that I had left behind. I received a phone call very shortly after I had left to say that they were safe and I could collect them. I call that excellent service. Thank you.
Review 18:After having a bath my boyfriend said I was bleeding, I panicked then he checked the towel and it wasn't blood it was red pen and even worse had written on it 'dog towel' not very nice. Breakfast was disorganised was felt as if was a burden rather than a guest.
Review 19:Nice room was clean, quiet and had everything we needed. Good location of the town and West bay.
Review 20:The room was clean and comfortable; the bathroom was sufficient and the hotel was fairly close to the beach, around 5-10 minutes drive. It provided you with various services, like wifi, although the internet connection wasn't great. With the room: we had a top floor room, meaning that the ceiling beams were too low, and in getting up in the morning you were prone to knocking your head against the beams. Also, there was noise from traffic outside. When we requested beach towels, one of the staff also kindly offered us a coolbox to carry food and drinks. We took it, but whilst carrying it from the car to the beach the plastic holding the handle to the box snapped and it broke off from its mountings. It was not overfilled just a few sandwiches and a couple of bottles of water, hardly a lead weight or concrete cargo. We were charged for the damage although in our view the box must have been defective prior to our receipt of it; a fact strongly disputed by the hotel owner, so please check the condition carefully if you decide to avail yourself of its successor in the future. Furthermore at breakfast one morning, we asked the waiter if it was possible to have a scrambled egg in addition to the breakfast we were eating as my youngest son had only had some bacon and toast and was still hungry the waiter informed us that it was "too late" to do this my wife then asked if a fried egg would be easier and a quarter of an hour later the owner presented himself from the kitchen and stated that the kitchen was closed. I don't believe it takes that long to cook scrambled eggs unless Bridport scrambles the laws of physics in cooking eggs of any sort .
Review 21:Not a bad experience... but overnight parking is limited.at this hotel
Review 22:It is homely and a little quirky, unlike the bland hotel chains that I usually have to stay in!
Review 23:Shower in our room calls for a visit from the Health and Safety inspectors as it alternates between cold and scalding. Staff most unhelpful to overseas visitors about breakfast orders - brought eggs done the wrong way and when this was pointed out just claimed that the kitchen was now closed.
Review 24:Secluded garden is pleasant to sit out in.
Review 25:Wonderful breakfasts: smoked haddock and kippers from local smokery, perfect poached eggs, coffee that tasted decent. Staff very friendly. Lounge chairs in bedroom to relax in.
Review 26:Room was a little small. Easy to bang your head on beams. A little pricey.
Review 27:Public areas charming. Staff friendly and helpful. Building has great charm. Excellent breakfast with the best black pudding ever!
Review 28:We came away for a relaxing three night break and that's exactly what we had. The hotel is located within easy reach to the town and a pleasant walk to west bay. Sam the wine waiter in the Wine cellar will offer any of the available wines by the glass, which can be enjoyed in the relaxing atmosphere of the wine cellar or in the private garden of the hotel. Breakfast was amazing, using local produce. We will definately come back.
Review 29:Small uncomfortable bed, poor shower, lacklustre service, poor value for money.
Review 30:Really good location and the main house is really attractive from the outside.
Review 31:We have stayed here about 10 times, always disappointed when fully booked. Our first stay was the best, we dined downstairs and had a fresh sea food platter each, it was special, they no longer do those meals and we always wonder why they stopped the restaurant.
Review 32:we always try to book the hotel when visiting Bridport. Has own car park, easy walking to centre, clean, excellent breakfast, suits all our needs.
Review 33:Since it's the only dog friendly hotel in Bridport, it might be booked up next time I want to stay there!
Review 34:Lovely hotel, very welcoming for my dog and staff all helpful pleasant and polite.
Review 35:The room was advertised as a bath & shower, but you couldnt use the shower as there was no curtain or a hoook to hang the shower on.
Review 36:Facilities in the room were very good and the bed was lovely and comfortable
Review 37:Room too cramped, there was only a shower on the bath taps which was dangerous as could not get the temperature right and handle got very hot
Review 38:The location
Review 39:We were in a family room, no shower and the mixer tap does not dispense warm water - it's either too hot or cold. Also didn't like having the hoover stored at the entrance to our room.
Review 40:Breakfast was very good, very clean and comfortable hotel.
Review 41:The staff were all very friendly and considerate. The service was excellent. A quirkily shaped bedroom but it was warm, clean and comfortable and I slept very well. The breakfast was very good and there was a lot of choice.
Review 42:Single Room very small & cramped. Bathroom Door access very tight & Shower access even tighter.
Review 43:Room warm on arrival. Instant Hot Water on tap.
Review 44:There was no dinner available in the evening only sandwiches and snacks, but there is a great restaurant within easy walking distance
Review 45:Location, friendliness of the staff and the breakfast
Review 46:The staff here make you feel very welcome and the breakfast really was superb with Chesil Smokery nearby supplying fresh haddock. The room and ensuite were fine and comfortable, though a little cramped. Overall we were happy with this family owned hotel
Review 47:Bed rather narrow and uncomfortable. The room was overlooking busy high street and very noisy flag next to window flapped noisily all night.
Review 48:Friendly staff - nice breakfast. Good location as right in centre of town and free off-street parking.
Review 49:Room was cramped and not good value for money which was a shame.
Review 50:Very good breakfast, staff friendly, very good location and free car parking. Nice wine bar
Review 51:A very pleasant and relaxed two days. Really comfy room. Hotel bright and clean, with attentive staff. Great breakfasts for all tastes. Cellar wine bar excellent and well stocked with relaxed service. (Sam)Will use again.
Review 52:nothing, it was all delightful and in very convenient location.
Review 53:everything. We have never know such friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble. We particularly liked the wine cellar and the fact that we were not just allowed but encouraged to bring a'take away meal back to eat there.
Review 54:We spent one night stopover here, and will go back for a longer trip. Sam showed us to our room, and served us in their bar, very friendly, we even had a drink with Ex-Mayor and his son. The room was quaint, clean and comfortable bed. Breakfast was wonderful and plentiful. Thank you to Bob (I think the owner)
Review 55:I have arthritis and I arrived at the hotel in some pain. The member of staff on reception was wonderfully kind - got me a cup of tea and waited till I felt better before booking me in. He apologised that only 'bar snacks' were available to eat that night, but I felt so bad that rather than have to go out again, I'd have settled for stale peanuts or crisps for dinner! As it was, he made me a huge bowl of delicious soup with warm crusty bread - perfect!
Review 56:Our twin room was located on the road side of the hotel. It was a warm evening and the room quite stuffy. Window had to be opened: result was a noisy and disturbed night's sleep! Bathroom sink was very small. Looked in on the wine bar but staff were not evident. The evening menu is now very limited. No good for those who have been on the go all day and want a relaxing dinner with good choice. There is no lift, so not for those who have mobility problems. At £130 it was quite pricey for what was on offer.
Review 57:Good reception and friendly staff. Comfortable bed and good breakfast in the morning. Would recommend the Olive Tree Restaurant just 200m from the hotel but book table in advance. It has an excellent choice of Italian wine! There are other likely dinner options on the other side of the traffic lights.
Review 58:Lack of heated towel rail in bathroom and poor extractor fans. Bathroom always damp and towels always cold and damp. But they say because it is a Listed Building improvements can be difficult but I think this should be a priority.
Review 59:Location and breakfasts - very good. On a level with the top seats of the passing double-decker buses ! Amusing, to say the least.
Review 60:We were up in the attic in the family room which was the only room left when we booked. The bathroom was configured wrongly so that you couldn't stand up in the bath making it very difficult to use. The attic had one small window which meant that we roasted all night long in spite of the fan. The breakfast room was cramped and obviously could not fit in all the guests at once so we were made to feel rushed. Additionally there was no yogurt or pastries being offered. The lady in charge was apparently training some poor lad and had a loud officious voice which was very annoying. My poached eggs on toast were overcooked but due to the proximity of other people overhearing I didn't feel I could say anything. The charge of £175.00 was far too much for the room.
Review 61:We liked the bar underneath but for some reason no one seems to go there. they should advertise more as this is a really nice bad
Review 62:A person who we presume we presume was the boss was extremely rude. Although the hotel claims to be dog friendly no provision was made for this re breakfast and so we went into the breakfast room. Half way through our breakfast [nicely cooked] we were told to 'get out' not directly to our face both to the whole restaurant. The hotel is overpriced. Don't go near it unless you are desperate
Review 63:Breakfast was good and the waiter was friendly but all this was over taken by a particularly rude individual
Review 64:Hotel could do with refurbished and modernised. Thought it was a lot of money for the standard.
Review 65:Friendly staff, clean and lovely breakfast. Convenient parking.
Review 66:There was nothing not to like.
Review 67:We were visiting family who live in Bridport and the hotel was excellent. Room was very comfortable and although we were only staying one night, would hope to stay there again.
Review 68:We cannot say anything that we did not like. It was a traditional 2/3 star hotel with all amenities that we expect in a hotel of this class
Review 69:good for town and seaside, parking ok, well appointed hotel, nice garden and a wine and music cellar for the evening
Review 70:I chose the poached egg on toast option for breakfast this could be improved by serving 2 pieces of toast instead of 1 as there was 2 poached eggs served.
Review 71:Comfortable rooms friendly staff cellar bar
Review 72:Our room was at the front, very noisy from the road into the night. Room has tired decor and there were no fans when requested due to hot weather.
Review 73:Friendly and helpful staff, breakfast had good choices.
Review 74:Single room slightly cramped, some traffic noise.
Review 75:Handy location, comfortable bed, breakfast cooked to order, friendly staff went out of their way to be helpful.
Review 76:Difficulty in getting out of deep bath due to the fact that was no grab rail. We have left a comment on their 'please comment sheet' and hope that they correct this oversight
Review 77:Comfortable clean hotel, good value for money, pleasant welcoming staff, nice location, pleasant gardens.
Review 78:The room was a tad cramped and very hot (was on the top floor) although a fan was provided. It was on the pricey side for a 3 star hotel, although not over-the-top.
Review 79:The staff were really friendly and helpful, from check-in, through breakfast and to leaving, they couldn't do enough for us....even providing a pot of tea in the lounge as we waited to head off to the wedding we are attending in the town. Breakfast was excellent with good quality local food, freshly cooked. The room was very clean and contained everything that we could have wanted (except perhaps a full shower).
Review 80:The attic room was a little small, the position of the bath under the eaves meant you couldn't have a shower and the toilet flush didn't operate properly. Because of this I felt the room was over priced.
Review 81:The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great.
Review 82:Downside was that I had to go out for my evening meal, I would have preferred to stay in and enjoyed a meal and drink without the fuss of going out. But on the whole an enjoyable stay.
Review 83:The hotel itself was exactly what it said in the advert, the bed was very comfortable and clean. The breakfast the following morning was very good and the service very good.
Review 84:Friendly staff. Good location.good local produce for breakfast.
Review 85:Blinds in bathroom very dusty
Review 86:Very peaceful
Review 87:The level of helpfulness of the host and staff was excellent. Very welcoming.
Review 88:Bed too soft for us and road noise but just personal opinion and would book here again

Review 103:Road noise in bedroom spoilt it for us- other rooms may well be better but ours was on the main road
Review 104:Friendly and comfortable
Review 105:The cosy fire in the lounge on arrival, the helpful staff on Reception, and available parking. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 106:Small room....very outdated furniture...uncomfortable bed....mould in bathroom.
