Reviews for Peterstone Court Country House Restaurant & Spa

Review 1:Hotel advertised as hotel with spa; this wasn't the case as the spa was in maintenance, so told not available. After having a shower told it was then partly open, so didn't get a chance to use as we were on the verge of going out. I Spoke with staff and explained we had only booked this particular hotel over others similar due to it having a Spa. They replied "it was free"!!!! They rubbed further salt in the wound and offered £10 off the bill...... Cooked breakfast contained questionable bacon; tasted like it was off and had been under a hot plate for at least a day - dry and hard. Also Eggs were not cooked properly - ie only partially cooked. We told staff but weren't offered a replacement. Come on it's a cooked breakfast how hard is that!!!! On checkout no mention of the issues, and no apology. Never again....

Review 2:We liked the room and view from it and location was good for the national park

Review 3:Breakfast was a disappointment. No fresh bread and the toast arrived burnt. The first pot of coffe was cold. The waitress seemed to be performing a function not providing a service. Breakfast room was cold, as was the first room we were given.

Review 4:The decoration was good. Dinner was good but the restaurant lacked atmosphere.

Review 5:Having to leave and that I wasn't there longer!

Review 6:Extraordinary luxury in a beautiful location. Staff were exceptionally virtuous and helpful. This was not a. Hotel but a beautiful retreat where you can feel special and welcome. Fantastic find!

Review 7:It was a in a beautiful setting and the room was quite 'quirky'. Lovely staff, good food and very relaxed feel to it all. Nothing was too much trouble.100% recommend for a treat. Great place!

Review 8:nothing to dislike

Review 9:Mountain view room was large, very comfortable, even a view from the bath! All staff were very friendly. Lovely terracces outside to relax. Menu at the restaurant very good

Review 10:Noisy during night, a problem with water pipes we we're told; some bed linen soiled though we sorted by removing; good wine list but no dessert wine or port (apparently last drop used in the main meal)- had another glass of Malbec instead!

Review 11:Location beautiful; spa experience excellent; dinner and breakfast good.

Review 12:The setting was stunningly beautiful, the staff genuinely friendly, the food wonderful, and the room elegant and comfortable. It was a perfect break for us, and we can't wait to come back . I can't recommend it highly enough.

Review 13:Breakfast on first two mornings below par. Service and quality not up to AA 5*standard. Long wait on 2nd morning for cooked breakfast to arrive.

Review 14:Very Dog friendly. Beautifully located, near to the Beacons, right above the river. Room in stable block, spacious, comfortable, and ideal for staying with dog.

Review 15:Overall this hotel is in need of a good Spring clean!!

Review 16:Location is great, lovely country side. Staff was very friendly and evening meal at the restaurant very good

Review 17:Freestanding bath was too high for me at 5ft to get into. No curtains so when shower was used water splashed everywhere. No biscuits to go with coffee/tea in room. Mirror too high when using hairdrier. No view from bedroom except kitchen air vents which hummed quietly all the time.

Review 18:Location.Great view from the bathroom but not main room unfortunately.

Review 19:Creaky floors people upstairs woke us early walking back and forwards above us. Bathroom floor a bit dirty behind the door few stains on towels.

Review 20:Excellent soft comfy bed we were upgraded at no extra cost. Lovely breakfast.

Review 21:I would have liked a selection of morning papers with breakfast.

Review 22:The food was excellent and good value for the fantastic standard. The room was lovely and staff went to every effort to make our stay special.

Review 23:Pricey for overall experience (room and dining area need a thorough spring clean). Spa facilities aren't managed centrally, and difficult to get hold of someone. Changing room could be cleaner. Wine list is a bit disappointing - need dessert wines and digestives.

Review 24:Great views of mountains from top floor room. Milk and cookies on arrival. Access to sauna and jacuzzi. Food was generally good.

Review 25:Wi-Fi not set up correctly. Would have been nice to have a couple of real ales on at the bar.

Review 26:Building was 18th century tastefully modernised. Quiet library area. Food and service in restaurant very good.

Review 27:Some of the spa facilities are a bit tired and in need of renovation.

Review 28:The room was excellent, big with a dual aspect view over the river and mountains. The whole hotel was comfortable and relaxed to stay in. The food was excellent, and staff coped with our requests very well despite being under-staffed due to sickness.

Review 29:not a particularly warm welcome from the staff and some mistakes with the service. shower in bathroom was disappointing compared to all the other facilities. Awful piped Xmas music on a loop!

Review 30:Room was fab, lovely decor and well equipped. Food was delicious and good choice of wine. lovely sitting area and spa was a treat. Walks from the house along the river to Brecon. Wonderful views across the Beacons

Review 31:Limited choice on dinner menu and not over impressed with some of the dishes. Very disappointed with the meagre portion of smoked haddock served at breakfast.

Review 32:Stunning location, beautifully decorated room. Very good spa treatments at reasonable prices. Comfortable public areas and lovely terraced grounds leading down to the river.

Review 33:Double bed was actually two singles pushed together, very uncomfortable. Staff were exceptionally unhelpful and didn't tell us where anything was located, like where breakfast was served in the morning and couldn't answer any questions about the local area, like where there are pubs/restaurants. Housekeeping obviously didn't know the room existed, visible clumps of dust, fly graveyard, toilet paper not replenished during stay. Milk and cookies promised on arrival never materialised. When staff were alerted to the presence of hornet in bedroom they said they would do something about it and never did, couldn't sleep first night as the loud buzzing all night made me fear I would be stung. Brown toast arrived out with breakfast when white toast was requested. Food for first breakfast was slightly above average but food for second breakfast was very poor, tasteless, cardboard bacon, "fresh" fruit that looked like it had been there since the day before. Walls were paper thin, was woken in the morning by people in neighbouring room walking around, showering, talking.

Review 34:Set in some beautiful countryside

Review 35:Having to leave..

Review 36:The hotel has everything you could want, location is excellent, staff are friendly and attentive food is out of this world and the views are outstanding. We stayed for a night as a treat and we could not have asked for more - on arrival we were made very welcome with a tour of the hotel and facilities together with a history lesson... The hotel is quirky and homely.. Rooms are large and intersting.. Dinner was exquisite and service was attentive without being hurried. Would recommend trying a spa treatment... Breakfast was again wonderful with every possible diet and appetite catered for.. Thank you ever so much for a wonderful stay and we will be returning again in the future. We both left feeling full recharged..

Review 37:We were allocated a room outside in the stable block which was very spacious but involved a flight of stairs from entrance/bathroom to the mezzanine bedroom and a cold/damp walk to the restaurant; forewarned would have been forearmed! Service at both dinner and breakfast seemed surprisingly slow for no apparent reason.

Review 38:Location overlooking the Usk is beautiful and we would have made more use of the surroundings if we'd had the time. The food was extremely good in terms of both taste and presentation.

Review 39:Despite booking six months early and sending pre-arrival instruction regarding rooms. It was not a good start to discover that booking had not been recorded properly No lift to help old bones

Review 40:Nice friendly staff, Convenient location with great views Good sized rooms A very nice quality breakfast spoilt by the usual problem for my wife as no diabetic (sugar free) jams or marmalade. No sweetners for cereals,no sweetners for tea/coffee

Review 41:could do with a bit more sound insualtion in the walls of the barn rooms.

Review 42:very helpful and welcoming staff. good facilities. dog friendly. great value for money.

Review 43:Staff were unattentive at times, wedding party during our stay made us feel like second class guests, not much room in the spa facilities.

Review 44:The views, comfy room, DVD rental facility

Review 45:When my husband and I arrived, we were met by friendly and helpful staff and was shown around the hotel to get our bearings. We were also advised that our room had been upgraded and it was lovely with all the facilities we needed. We had tea on the terrace and a meal in the evening which was excellent. Would definitely return.

Review 46:We only stayed one night so missed the opportunity to check out the spar and other facilities.

Review 47:Great location with stunning views to the peaks we'd walked during the day. Our room was lovely and the food was great for both evening meal and full (Welsh) breakfast.

Review 48:Meals were very average for the price and the bar and restaurant were understaffed leading to long waits for drinks and meals. Not the experience that we were expecting

Review 49:The rooms and historic building were fantastic

Review 50:Having to leave!

Review 51:Spa, gym and pool. Huge rooms, comfy bed Roll top bath with views of hills Friendly and polite staff Great food and wine choices Terrace and eating outside

Review 78:Room (Talybont) was excellent. Views and access to the Beacons was easy.

Review 79:water was a bit lukewarm in the morning

Review 80:The setting, environment, the character and architecture. Room was very good, cosy and well looked after

Review 81:Not cleaned to a high standard Limited spa facilities

Review 83:Everything about our stray at petercourt was 1'st class excellent certainly would reccommend a perfect stay Paul and Ann .

Review 84:The place is very old but updated .

Review 85:Loved the old building and setting close to the river and farms

Review 86:Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast and Dinner were very good. Hotel and grounds are attractive.

Review 87:Quite noisy in that the floorboards were very creaky. Also mattress was very soft.

Review 88:Price Facilities Style Breakfast

Review 89:Lovely setting, warm welcome, excellent dinner and breakfast

Review 90:no newspapers available , short staffed for the number of guests

Review 91:location , room , facilities , staff , food , wine , general comfort

Review 92:Nothing was too much trouble for anybody, the staff were excellent.

Review 93:Everything.

Review 94:Huge room Great staff Lovely setting Great food

Review 95:Nothing. Other reviews nit pick about squeaky floor boards etc but it's an old fashioned building with high ceilings and it adds to the character :)

Review 96:Views, facilities, staff, rooms all were very good. Breakfast was very good also. The price we paid was half what is usually charged through the hotel directly so we got a great deal. Everything about the stay was perfect, we highly recommend it.

Review 97:The smell of the sauna/chlorine.

Review 98:The location, warmth of reception and level of comfort. The food was delicious. The staff were delightful and keen to help. The atmosphere was wonderfully calm, quiet and un-stressfully peaceful.

Review 99:Asking twice to have some milk put into the room but none did so inspite of the receptionist who showed us into the room saying she wouldarrange to and another member of staff also promising when asked to doso and not delivering

Review 100:Food outstanding and library was lovely

Review 101:Stable block room was a bit claustrophobic as blinds had to be down. As a result airless and confined. What a shame a window was not located on the side of the building to access light, air and a stunning view with privacy. Bathroom felt a little cold and it did not state that it was down stairs which for some more mature clients would be difficult to access especially in the middle of the night. I feel that this information would be helpful on the room description. Breakfast was lacking juice, cereal. We may have missed the items laid out elsewhere but as these options were not offered to us we were unaware. However the haddock was delicious!

Review 102:The reception rooms were impressively welcoming and comfortable. The staff attentive and polite. We booked this at the very last minute (only one room left) and they rang to inform us that there was a social event and that the location of our room may be disturbed by noise. This was not a problem and it was courteous of them to check with us. Food was delicious but please note comment about breakfast. Enjoyed a beautiful walk stunning location. We did not use the leisure facilities offered in the Spa but again they rang to ask if we would like any treatments prior to our visit. We would love to come back but would prefer our room to be in the main house next time.

Review 103:Nothing, loved very second we were there. Shame we didn't get to use the spa facilities!

Review 104:Extremely friendly staff, beautiful location, huge room, excellent breakfast, some lovely walks near by. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff to sort out. I can't speak more highly of the place.

Review 105:Cannot fault anything.

Review 106:The food was stunning. Our bedroom was huge with the most comfiest bed I have slept in! The staff were friendly and polite and nothing was too much trouble. We will certainly be coming back.

Review 107:The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the whole place was so warm, welcoming and comfortable. We'd chosen a bedroom -Cathedral - in the converted stable and it was lovely. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. A memorable stay in an idyllicl location.

Review 108:There were only a few minor things that let this place slip a little. We ate dinner at the restaurant on the second night and had run out of most of the food on the menu so I couldn't eat my first choice on any starter, main or dessert! the other thing was there was a very rude waitress on our second morning, we waited half hour for breakfast when we were the only people there and she seemed like she had many other more important things to be doing than seeing to us, otherwise the other staff were lovely and we really enjoyed our time

Review 109:The hotel was lovely and the staff really helpful. Beautiful location and the warm biscuits in the room everyday were a good touch. overall we really enjoyed our stay

Review 110:Lovely boutique style hotel at a good price. Great spacious rooms very well furnished with plenty of period features. Good food, not quite Michelin star stuff but should satisfy serious foodies. The staff were excellent. The receptionist agreed to look after our baby monitor all night whilst we dined with friends and made sure she came to get us when the baby screamed. A lovely hotel, in a great location in the beautiful Brecon Beacons.

Review 111:Excellent staff. Very welcoming and helpful. Beautiful and convenient location lovely, comfortable, individually styled bedrooms with super views Delicious food

Review 112:Just a bit expensive - I'm not sure it needed to be quite so expensive for what it was. I would have liked more toiletries in the bathroom daily and a fan in the room as it was very hot. The DVD collection was very male orientated!!!

Review 113:Staff were lovely, food was excellent and the hotel was beautifully decorated.

Review 114:Lovely countryside, nice river, gardens obviousy work in progress would like to see them when completed. Lovely food. Lovely room. Friendly staff. Could do with an indoor pool.

Review 115:The decor is in need of attention as it is looking very tired and worn. A face lift required. Our bathroom in the Brecon was in need of maintenance to correct the shower door over the bath. Unfortunately we had people staying next door that stayed up watching TV and talking until gone 4 am. and we could hear them quite clearly thereby giving us very little sleep. Evidently sound proofing is non existent and needs sorting out.

Review 116:The location was excellent with good views of the mountains. The service was very good as was the food and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The spa treatment was also very good.

Review 117:I didn't like the fact that we couldn't stay longer.

Review 118:A friendly and very relaxed atmosphere. Very helpful and friendly staff who gave the impression that nothing was too much trouble.

Review 119:We didn't stay longer :)

Review 120:Everything

Review 121:Noisey floorboards above our bedroom

Review 122:Breakfast

Review 123:Bedroom cold no heating, except bathroom heated towel was on.

Review 124:The staff where exceptional

Review 125:Kettle was a challenge

Review 126:Friendly and welcoming . Wonderful homemade cookies and best chips ever

Review 127:Nothing!

Review 128:The location with a view of the Brecon Beacons. Fresh milk provided in fantastic baderoom, comfy bed and warm room.

Review 129:a bit faded generally and very soft bed. no smoked salmon for breakfast :-(

Review 130:lovely old house, Fabulous staff. excellent food.
