Reviews for Three Horseshoes Inn
Review 1:Nothing bad to say
Review 2:Lovely location, beautiful surroundings, food was fantastic, and the owner was very accommodating. If you like a big hearty breakfast this is the place to set you up for the whole day, would definitely go again.
Review 3:My evening meal was disappointing. Bed very uncomfortable; only one bedside table. Bathroom smelt of smoke.
Review 4:The interior of the pub was welcoming. Staff were exceptionally friendly. Breakfast was superb.
Review 5:The reason the comfort/facilities were marked down was because we were out for the day and got properly drenched through (right through to underwear!). I asked the management three times if we could put our coats etc in a dryer and were ignored. The heating in our room went off shortly after we got back and wasn't on in the morning so we were still left with wet clothes. Thankfully, the house keeping staff were lovely and got them straight in the driers for us.
Review 6:The house keeping staff were excellent and the breakfast was marvellous. Bed was comfy and room was clean and warm.
Review 7:Room was a little bit noisy due to the location being close to a road but only because I am not used to hearing traffic.
Review 8:Excellent location, small but lovely room, had everything we needed. Very friendly helpful staff and we had a lovely evening meal. Would definitely recommend to others.
Review 9:I had requested a quiet room. We were near a fire door which banged shut every time it was used. I used earplugs the first night to mask the music from the bar and noise of the fire door however did not expect to be woken at 3.30 am by friends of the Owner - who seemed to be having their own private drinking party in the bar - causing me to go down in my nightdress at 4.30 am to ask that the music be turned off! We left a day early not wanting to experience yet another sleepless night.
Review 10:The staff were friendly and the food was reasonably priced.
Review 11:Strong cooking smells through the air vent in the bathroom.
Review 12:Very friendly and helpfull staff. An excellent breakfast. Plenty of fresh fruit. Bottled water in the bedroom.
Review 13:The door needs to be slammed to lock. Other than that wonderful experience.
Review 14:Clean rooms, delicious food and wonderful innkeepers. The view from our family room was really peaceful and calm too.
Review 15:Nothing
Review 16:Excellent, quiet location for visiting Durham and surroundings. Good Parking. Welcoming and attentive staff. Full English breakfast set us up for the whole day! Ideal bed and breakfast inn!
Review 17:Fantastic pub, friendly staff, amazing food and drink and the views from the restaurant was superb. We were made very welcome and we will definitely return and stay.
Review 18:Lovely country pub. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food superb, both evening meal and breakfast of very high quality. Room clean and comfortable and best night sleep I have had away for ages. I will definitely be staying here again
Review 19:The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. I made a last minute request for storage of our much cherished bicycles, having just completed the C2C, and found the landlord to be extremely accommodating and helpful. The breakfast would take some beating, I’ve certainly not had better in my many years of travelling!
Review 20:Hole in the bedroom floor the floorboards went in a hole, the mattress was very lumpy we rolled into the middle toilet was very noisy could hear nextdoors as well.
Review 21:Rooms could do with redecoraton in the very near future perhaps with more accessible power points added (& in more convenient locations). Basic DIY things such as door handles could do with reinforcing and door at bottom of stairs either relocated or handle moved to a higher point (very difficult to operate when carrying luggage down)!
Review 22:Staff were very friendly and they eminated a very relaxed atmosphere. Great views from all rooms. Comfortable room and bed and shower was good (though it could benefit from a descale).
Review 23:Corridor and room smelt of cigarette smoke on arrival. Initially wifi did not work.
Review 24:Room was large and comfortable and hospitality tray was re-stocked each day. The breakfast was excellent and all the staff were polite and efficient.
Review 25:Nothing to dislike
Review 26:Staff very friendly and welcoming food great but breakfast absolutely great everything you could ask for in a full English breakfast also everything else was there if you didn't want full English
Review 27:Bed was a little soft and quilt a bit too thick for summer months. There was a problem with WiFi whilst we were there.
Review 28:Great location - handy for visiting surrounding areas. Really friendly hosts/staff and fantastic food!
Review 29:Amazing food (breakfast was huge, delicious, and free!), very kind staff, excellent private rooms, and an adorable country setting. It was our favorite place we stayed over the course of our whole three-week trip through the UK.
Review 30:Front rooms overlook fairly busy road though double glazed and set back from road so tolerable. Smell of stale smoke, a bit shabby and broken toilet seat
Review 31:Friendly staff and excellent pub grub for evening meal.
Review 32:Some might find the bedroom at the front a little noisy as it looks across a main A road to open countryside
Review 33:Good value, generous well cooked breakfast with a choice of 3 delicious fresh fruit salads, friendly, welcoming and efficient service, comfortable bed, spotless bathroom, unlimited and free parking
Review 34:We only stayed a short while as we were attending our son's graduation. We had to leave early but we were offered breakfast before we left. The accommodation was clean and comfortable with everything you would need. The landlord was very friendly and helpful, we would definitely recommend this accommodation.
Review 35:General cleanliness of room and especially bathroom poor. Noise from the road, smell of fried food and general state of the accommodation questionable.
Review 36:Staff were friendly
Review 37:The 3 Horseshoes is a friendly pub and our twin room was clean and nicely decorated. It is close to th A1 and Durham. The beds were comfy and the staff friendly- what more could you want. They went out of their way to find apple juice for my son when I asked for some- could not be more helpful. The location is in beautiful open fields with great views although it is close to the road.
Review 38:Double glazing needs hinges repairing - hence traffic noise all night as if it was in the room. Back room may be better.
Review 39:Very near Durham city - so great for our plans. Breakfast enormous!
Review 40:Treated like kings. 3 friends all in mid twenties. Given excellent room. Easy entrance when arriving back at hotel late. Breakfast outstanding. Made fresh to order with plenty options. Staff were friendly. Payment simple. Top marks.
Review 41:Microwaved pies never work - which unfortunately includes the steak and ale pie served here. The pastry is always soggy! The rest of the food appeared to be excellent!
Review 42:All the staff at this roadside dog-friendly hotel, including the younger members, were exceptionally friendly. Service was carried out with a smile the entire evening in spite of continuous running back and forth from the kitchen to the restaurant.
Review 43:The friendliest staff I have encountered for ages. They were very welcoming and did all they could to make sure you enjoyed your stay. The breakfast was excellent - wide choice and beautifully cooked.
Review 44:Road noise - very busy till late and it starts early! Best to get a room at the back.
Review 45:Real Ale, varied menu, good portions and fantastic bar staff. Wonderful breakfast served with a smile.
Review 46:We stayed for 2 nights to visit Durham and was made very welcome beautiful location the pub is very cosy with a great atmosphere the food is exceptional and lots of choice on menu breakfast was top notch very friendly owners and staff rooms are ample best 2 night's sleep I've had in a long time big thankyou to all highly recommended

Review 51:Firstly the staff are really friendly and ensure all your requirements are met; Lovely location in the countryside; Superb food both quality and choice; Parking right outside; really nice room, comfy, clean and ample size.
Review 52:The wi-fi range didn't extend to our room.
Review 53:This is a cosy and very friendly place to stay and in a good location for access to Durham. The breakfast was fabulous with lots of choice and huge quantities. We had our evening meal in the restaurant, too, and this was also excellent and good value.
Review 54:'Mine Hosts' are the best we have encountered anywhere! Fantastic breakfasts, great beer, extremely friendly people. A great holiday base location, thank you Martin and Sara, and all your staff for making our stay such a pleasure.
Review 55:Staff were all superb. Couldn't do enough for you and nothing was too much trouble. Food at and breakfast was first class and great value for money
Review 56:we did not dislike anything.
Review 57:Very nice place excellent staff very good food very good location we had a great weekend very friendly owners . we would definately stay again.
Review 58:It is clean and comfortable, & I really appreciate having a small flannel as well as two towels to wrap myself in! At breakfast we had a large bowl of raspberries & strawberries to sample, they looked and tasted great, with a good choice of cooked food to follow.
Review 59:Restraunt was a little, cold with no fires lit, but it was very windy outside and I know this can be a problem for real fires,
Review 60:evening meal excellent, stunning breakfast, clean cosy hotel, good location, dog friendly owners, value for money.
Review 61:It is right on a busy road, hence quite noisy. Hard to sleep if your room faces the road. Our room was below standard and the bathroom needs refurbishment
Review 62:The owners and the staff are extremely nice and warm. Food is very good. Fresh ingredients and local products. Warm and cosy environment
Review 63:country pub, staff very friendly, food excellent. Stayed for 2 nights working away and couldn't have picked a better place. Breakfast was more than enough for anyone. Overall a great place to stay at a bargain price.
Review 64:The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. I was up early the next day before breakfast and they made sure I had something to take with me. The cosy room and fire were lovely after a long day. Evening meal was also excellent. Give me this over a Premier Inn any day! I'll be back.
Review 65:The only minor niggle was the bathroom a little tired and ready for an update but fully functioning and plenty of towels which were changed daily.
Review 66:Excellent accommodation the staff and owners were all brilliant nothing too much trouble, room very quiet, ate in the pub both nights food amazing both in quality and quantity, but the best thing was the breakfast everything you can think of and more the cooked breakfast is out of this world and all served on piping hot plates.
Review 67:Road noise was greater than expected but would still come back!
Review 68:Friendly staff, good ales, great food, good location comfortable rooms and good shower. Could not fault the welcome and warmth of all the staff.
Review 69:The fact that we had to leave!!
Review 70:Our arrival was greeted with warm welcomes, smiles and a wonderful log fire burning away!!.Everyone was so helpful and we felt much relaxed after quite a long journey. The building is full of character and has a great mix of traditional and modern. The room was large and bright with a very comfy bed.We slept so well and then had a fabulous breakfast....what a menu!! We stayed for 3 nights and ate in the bar/restaurant on all nights. The food is cooked to a very good standard and each dish was delicious. The chef is a gem!!Reasonably priced food for the variation and quality offered.Great selection of wines/beers etc.We were delighted with our stay and look forward to our next visit. Hope it's not too long. Many thanks to everyone again!!
Review 71:The inn is quite close to a fairly busy road so at times the sound of traffic was a bit intrusive in our bedroom at the front of the building. However, it was not a major issue especially when we closed the double glazed windows.
Review 72:The proprietors were very eager to help and be friendly, and the breakfasts were great. The inn is just a few miles from Durham and is very good value for money compared with hotels in the city.
Review 73:wifi not working but its not a big issue. door needed slamming to close it, which is fine but we didn't like disturbing anyone!
Review 74:hosts , huge menu choice for supper, excellent breakfast, welcome, room, bed, service, free parking, shower v good, location easy to find.
Review 75:Traffic noise from the road late at night and early in the morning which was a shame because both the bed and room were very comfy.
Review 76:Warm welcome, very knowledgeable of area with good tips, very generous portion size for meals especially breakfast which was so filling I didn't need lunch!
Review 77:Easy access to Durham Excellent value Good food - evening meal and full cooked breakfast Friendly welcome Separate front door for access to room (not through pub)
Review 78:NOTHING
Review 79:The genuine welcome we received when we arrived with our 2 King Charles spaniels.Nothing was to much trouble for the delightful landlord and landlady. The staff were also extremely kind and helpful. The Full English Breakfast was the biggest and best we have ever had! A really good selection of wines and beers and many choices on the menu for lunch and dinner.A choice of a really comfortable lounge or bar with log fire and dart board to sit and read in during the daytime or evening.
Review 80:To near the road lots of traffic. I wear earplugs in bed so it didnt affect me.
Review 81:The staff and owners were very friendly and helpful. We had an evening meal which was excellent, and the breakfast was out of this world.Great value for money. When we are up this way again we will stay here again. Thank you for a lovely stay. Bill&Pat Kelly from Bradford.
Review 82:I love this place. We used to stay here a lot when our Daughter was at uni, that was 8 years ago. We decided to to go back and see Durham, which has changed... but luckily this pub hasn't !!! still as friendly, and the good still as good !!! Thank you got making us welcome !!!!
Review 83:Mentioned our bathroom light did not work. Was not fixed but we only stayed one night. Facilities could do with a little updating.
Review 84:Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good.
Review 85:The Three Horseshoes was a real "home from home".The pub is handily located, less than ten minutes drive from Durham with ample free parking and splendid countryside views. Our room was beautifully clean and comfortable with all the facilities you would expect. The hosts were extremely friendly and couldn't do enough for us, whilst the cooked breakfast was absolutely magnificent. If you fancy a pint, you only have to walk downstairs to the spacious pub/restaurant! I would have no problem recommending The Three Horseshoes to any weary traveller.
Review 86:Enjoyed our stay. Ideal location for Durham without being in the city itself. Staff friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast with good choice. Would stay again and recommend to family and friends.
Review 87:The bed - hard and lumpy Bathroom needs modernising
Review 88:Efficient friendly staff Restaurant - good food, large menu Great breakfast Location - excellent for A1 and Durham Plenty of hot water Plenty of parking
Review 89:The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The breakfast was generous and nicely prepared. The location is very convenient for Durham provided you have a car.
Review 90:In out limited experience a lot of accommodation has a dated bathroom suite. Although this is not really a problem, we did find that in our suite we did have to pump the toilet handle to get it to flush.....
Review 91:We were welcomed warmly despite arriving late. The countryside location ensured a noise free nights rest. The decor in the bedroom was lovingly appointed. Breakfast was varied and generous, including black pudding. The fresh fruit was phenomenal, the raspberries were the size of strawberries and very sweet and tasty. We enjoyed the breakfast so much that we went back for Sunday lunch. This was also excellent and was served by the vrey friendly staff.
Review 92:Nothing comes to mind really.
Review 93:The staff and owners were extremely helpful. The rooms and restaurant were very clean and comfortable. Breakfast choices were great. One of the best holidays we had. We'll be back here for sure!
Review 94:Sara & Martin & all the staff were just wonderful nothing was to much trouble. We have never had such a selection of food in all the time we have been gong on holiday. We would recommend anybody to stay there.
Review 95:Food - both evening meal and breakfast were tasty and well presented. Great range of dishes in a pub setting, clearly popular with local diners. Big portions and excellent value for money. Location was convenient for Durham, just off A1M, easy to find. Wonderful views of countryside from bedroom windows and dining areas. Easy and free parking Friendly welcome, great hosts. Will stay again.
Review 96:WiFi connection would not always connect otherwise nothing.
Review 97:Have to say how Friendly the Staff were absolutely great, clean and good food both in quality and choice.
Review 98:Greasy, over cooked full English breakfast - far too much to eat and remain comfortable! Slightly dingy/sticky feel to most surfaces and whole place has a tired look to it. A shame as could be very good.
Review 99:Friendliness and helpfulness of all staff. Rural situation with good views. Selection of croissants, fruit and cereals at breakfast.
Review 100:All the staff were very friendly. The owners made us feel very welcome. The rooms were very nice and modern, clean and warm. The food is highly recommended. I would definitely stay here again and I will tell everyone about this place. Looking forward to the next visit.
Review 101:Mattress very soft. Too much light entering the room at night. Bathroom requires a lot of general maintenance. Wi-Fi did not work in room.
Review 102:Location. Breakfast. Staff friendliness. Chair in room.
Review 103:Bathroom was a bit dated, but not a big issue.
Review 104:Pub/ restaurant on site. Staff was extremely helpful and kind. We got there late due to a GPS error and they welcomed us and feed us! Food was amazing here!
Review 105:The hotel is in a lovely rural setting. The room was very good with all the required facilities including drink making. The food was excellent , you will need to have a hearty appetite if you go for the full English breakfast it was huge
Review 106:We stayed in room 2 which was the only one left. When we arrived we wetetold there was only a bath with a shower attachment had there beenanother room we would have asked to change. Thete was a very unpleasantsmell in the bathroom which we found went away when we ran the bath tapbut got worse when you flushed the loo. The floor in the bathroom was,in my opinion, dangerously uneven. Bascally the bathroom needs upgradingand preferably in a lighter colour and with better illumination. Theroo, was dedinitely no noisy.
Review 107:The room was clean and tidy and dogs were welcome. The breakfast wasenormous tasty if a bit greasy. The young ladies in the diningroom weredelightful and the menu lookd very good
Review 108:We have just returned from a lovely stay at the three horseshoes inn. The owners Sara and Martin were fantastic and so were the bar and waiting staff, Nothing was too much trouble. The place is also extremely dog friendly. A Oldie worldie traditional inn, the bedrooms are a little basic (but comfortable and clean) and they have added a few little special touches. It is approx 10-15 minutes from Durham centre. If we were to return to Durham we would definitely stay here again.
Review 109:Quite a way out of Durham (although in a car only 10 mins it feels isolated). Durham isn't a destination I would recommend visiting. Room was a little tired in places. Bed was very soft, just foam I think, not very comfortable.
Review 110:Room was quite nice. Staff were very friendly.
Review 111:the bathroom toilet did not flush & while we were there it actualy leeked very bad. this caused a nasty smell.the shower also did not work and leeked badly as well.we were led to believe we had a shower but no .it was a very horrid green bath.the bathroom was never cleaned the whole of 5 days spent in it.
Review 112:staff very friendly ,views from inn excellent.
Review 113:The bathroom! It was clean but old and not a very nice aroma coming from the sink
Review 114:Breakfast good, evening meals available very good and nice atmosphere in Pub
Review 115:Couldn't stay longer!!!
Review 116:Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, especially the full English breakfast. Quick service, food piping hot, presentation excellent. En suite room just what we wanted, comfortable, clean, well stocked with amenities. Loved it from start to finish, both the location and everything about it. Well done everybody who made our stay so lovely
Review 117:The residents lounge would be better cordoned off from the corridor running from kitchen to dining area. I was draughty and not very private
Review 118:The food was delicious with a varied menu, very tasty and more than enough to eat it was not over priced either. Staff and proprietors very friendly
Review 119:traffic noise at front of inn could be a problem for light-sleepers.
Review 120:location. value for money breakfast selection, portion size evening meals- fantastic menu, reasonably priced. Excellent staff
Review 121:It was a fantastic place to stay. Staff very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Our children were made to feel very welcome. The breakfast was incredibly good value. A real gem of the North. We will definitely be going back!
Review 122:Road outside was very fast with no pavement,so it was not easy to find a place to walk a large dog. The owner told me I could use the field next door to walk my dog. A sign indicating this is my only issue with this b and b.
Review 123:Staff were very friendly and very obliging.wifi was the best we have ever had in a b and b.it was available everywhere we went.Food-nicest tastiest steak I have ever had and there was a large choice.Dog was made very welcome and there was no charge.
